6:23 PM
I just got a score of 12,384 in that stupid 2048 game. My first time getting to 1024 \o/

@jadarnel27 I just beat it
Finally!

Hiya guys. Looking forward to happy hour? I love that event.

Someone needs to block gabrielecirulli.github.io on my network :P
oooh ooh I know what to do

@Undo To bad it is already loaded into your cache ;)

aaack!

6:27 PM
@TimWolla I hope to reach that venerable place soon (winning that game, not being in @Undo's cache, to be clear).

Oh come on @jadarnel27, admit it. You'd love to be in @Undo's cache

Well...yeah. Okay, that too.

Okay, peeps, here's how you free yourself from 2048's grasp: edit your /etc/hosts file (if on OS X / Linux) and add this line:
54.235.78.211   gabrielecirulli.github.io

hahaha

@BenCollins You got in between my messages :(

6:32 PM
What do you think about the formatting of this answer? Is there a backtick / h1 abuse going on?

@Amal I think it looks fine, besides the super bold text at the beginning

"object instances of ..." - What about this sentence, @Blue? I don't think it needs backticks.

@AmalMurali lots of code is also bold. Whether that's something that really needs to be removed I'm not sure, but aside from that there are only a few backtick problems
H1 abuse is nonsense though, let someone structure his post the way he wants as long as it's readable

sets out to write entire post in h1

takes out smiting stick ...

mo.
6:36 PM
"Example" isn't code, and shouldn't be backticked.

@JeroenVannevel: <h1>Okay, then</h1>

hehe
<h1> no worky in chat.

@mo. A lots of things in that answer isn't code yet backtick formatted.

@Amalmurali ehhhh whatever

@Undo: I know ;)

mo.
6:37 PM
Right. I was just example as ... an example :)

It makes no sense to allow <hX> tags in chat. :D

mo.
Backticks should be reserved for code, commands, keywords..

@amal Referring to your issue with the object instances sentence

@BlueIce What about it?

@amal It just Personally, I think that there are bigger fish to fry then h1 issues. I
@amal jeez I hate mobile.
It just do
Darn it

mo.
6:40 PM
Wow ^ :)

It just didn't seem like a huge issue to me
There. Finally. :)

mo.
\o/

Hmm, somehow, I don't like the new SE Android app. I'm now using Chrome instead. Anyone else like me? :)

Yup.
Keep on pressing enter before I mean to, though.

Yup.
I only use the app for sound & push notifications

6:43 PM
^ Same.

@AnnaLear You... you.... breaks down in tears

@Undo gives hug

:(

Happy Hour is a state of mind. ;)

Happy Hour was... like...
If you were going to kill a chat event, why couldn't you have killed that stupid thing Writers.SE has every week that I somehow get notified for all the time?

6:47 PM
@Undo That one doesn't bother me. ;)

76
Q: Let users opt out of scheduled event notifications

Michael MrozekChat pops up a notification anytime a scheduled event in a room you're interested in is about to start. Unfortunately, it defines "room you're interested in" as "room you've been in, ever", and there appears to be no way to tell it otherwise. I've been in quite a few chat.SE rooms for sites I'm...

One does not merely opt out of happy hour

Can we, like, pass around a petition or something?
:P

See it like this @Undo, we get another hour to be sour miserable bastards.

6:50 PM
I mean, I would save up my happiness all week for that event. And now it'll just go to /dev/null until the cache refreshes for where to store happiness.

Pretty much nobody who "registered" for the event was even around in this room. Meh, I say. MEH.

wishes he had registered for happy hour
Oooh someone answered something on SR!
goes to inspect

This has been "Snap Decisions by Anna 'Grumpy Cat' Lear". We now return you to your regularly unscheduled programming.

Hah

@Amal Why don't you like the Android app? I hardly use it because it crashes all the time. But I figured that was just because my phone needs to be wiped soon (a lot of apps behave that way for me).

6:53 PM
I like having the question and answer on the same page. Plus, I don't like the profile UI very much. But as 3ventic said above, I'm using it -- only for notifications and stuff

I want to make a question on meta, "Reverse the snap decision made by Grumpy Cat!"

status-no

7:30 PM
hi

hiya

i am just wondering if a commitment-turned-private-beta can be removed from my A51 profile

You want your account deleted?

@Anna It can't be regular if it's unscheduled
:p

#thatsthejoke
@Helios Not until it's fulfilled or the site graduates.

7:39 PM
@Bart Done! Wait, what? You don't want it deleted?

@AnnaLear oh....
oh well, plan B

Don't worry @BlueIce. I'll just use one of my sockpuppets

@AnnaLear okay, no worries, i'll get my A51 account nuked

sure

okay, request submitted...done and done
now, to find a good profile picture

7:48 PM
@annalear There's a good reason they call you 'Grumpy Cat'. ^._.^

"They"? It's usually just me. ;)

did i annoy you, @AnnaLear? not my intention if I did - apologies

@Helios not at all

can 10kers vote to delete whatever they consider junk, right?

@AmalMurali mmm...

I want Happy Hour back! Plz?

@AmalMurali He flirts with the border between direct and rude but usually he's within the "safe" zone

7:54 PM
@annalear Do your cats call you Grumpy Cat?

@BlueIce I just have one, but probably. :)

@JeroenVannevel: So much negativity. I could fill this room with really rude comments from YCS.

Yeah @JeroenVannevel, he's great at balancing on the "You're an ass, but you're correct" line.

@Amal After reading his profile, I don't really know why he spends time on SO if he hates the site and the people on it so much. :/

@AnnaLear could my account here area51.stackexchange.com/users/99773/helios be nuked (or put on the nuking countdown)

7:58 PM
@Helios you already submitted a request, right? what's the rush? :)

just like it to be gone as soon as possible

@BlueIce: Exactly. See this:

@Helios done

8:00 PM
There is a difference between genuinely hating a site, and loving to complain about it.

I think I'll run out of flags if I started flagging his "non-constructive" comments. ;)

@AnnaLear thank you muchly, i owe you a beverage of choice (or another cat)

hahah I'll take a beer, thanks.

@Anna: Can I have the cat then? Pleaaase?

@Amal eechhh makes me feel bad for the answerer

8:01 PM
@AnnaLear i'll send it from Australia

@AmalMurali sure, all yours

Yay! \o/

heh
I just flagged 3 of YCM's comments on that last post linked
all 3 immediately dissapeared and marked helpful

@AnnaLear so, send the cat to @AmalMurali and a Darwin stubby to @AnnaLear :)

do I have mod capabilities or was I the exact last person needed to flag them for auto removal?

8:02 PM
@helios Give the cat a computer and see if it makes an SO account. If so, mail it to me plz

Super powers @JeroenVannevel. Use them wisely

only 13 hours until 2 other sites of mine are nuked
@BlueIce now that would be funny

@Bart Yes, sensei-Bart.

wait a sec, jon skeet is not a cat???
3

@JeroenVannevel did you flag the ones with the word "accepted" in them? those are insta-removed with one flag on the assumption that they're about accept rate

8:05 PM
@AnnaLear To be honest I don't know anymore. I think some had 'accept' in it, but I'm not sure if all of them did. stackoverflow.com/a/22401389/1864167

Why is that filter still in place @AnnaLear? Accept rate has long gone (And I nuked most of the remaining comments)

Never heard of that feature before

@Bart equal parts "nobody thought of it" and "people still nag others to accept their answers"

Aha. /me goes to dig up old comments about accept rate

Good luck @AmalMurali. You won't find all that many on the main site any more.

8:07 PM
@Bart: hmm. Should I flag them as Not Constructive?

That will nuke them, sure
Do make sure they are actually not constructive though

@Bart There's still tons.
Or flag them as too chatty.

i am not a member of SO

I would focus on more useful things though @AmalMurali.

8:09 PM
I'm just bored. I have nothing better to do, @Bart :D

@BlueIce aaah it all makes sense now!
c'mon 13 hours.....

@Helios Why? are you out of votes? Close votes?

@BlueIce nah my membership on 2 sites (inc. 1 in private beta) are in the deletion countdown...

in Charcoal HQ on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 52 secs ago, by Undo
I expect to see a 5% rise in number of flags declined because people will cease being happy.

i wonder if i send 2 more Darwin stubbies to @AnnaLear if she would nuke my membership where the deletion countdown is happening....

8:19 PM
sorry, can't actually do that

dang..lol, no matter - i still owe you a Darwin stubby

It's an attitude indicator! — user3203690 26 secs ago
Tell me I'm not crazy. It's an altitude indicator, right?

rofl
Attitude control is the exercise of control over the orientation of an object with respect to an inertial frame of reference or another entity (the celestial sphere, certain fields, nearby objects, etc.). Controlling vehicle attitude requires sensors to measure vehicle orientation, actuators to apply the torques needed to re-orient the vehicle to a desired attitude, and algorithms to command the actuators based on (1) sensor measurements of the current attitude and (2) specification of a desired attitude. The integrated field that studies the combination of sensors, actuators and algor...

@Helios!

correct!
(by the way, @Manishearth, this is Amaterasu)

I know :P

That was... oddly endearing.

Q: "UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path"

user2557124I have already tried the VM args and I have added the natives, so I can't think of any other possible solution. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Unknown ...

Shouldn't the 'content dispute' message point to the actual meta post that is about that dispute?

there isn't necessarily/usually one

8:33 PM
The same thing on Cthuhlu answer.

In a typical scenario, what would someone visit meta for then?

To open a discussion.

"For more info visit meta." - Visit what exactly? A new user who reaches meta from such notices wouldn't probably know where (and if) a discussion is going on.

Which, admittedly, works better on smaller sites than SO (at least until the MSO/MSE split. Probably.)

1 hour later…
10:04 PM
i bet this has already been answered, but if they are going to start metaSO off with like 0 questions, or are they going to transfer questions to there that are only about SO. Seems like a lot of questions would need to be transferred, and wouldn't the mods need help with that?
and would the reputation be xferred between the sites to per the relevant question/answer/suggested edits/etc? Seems like a really big mess
FYI : whenever I ask questions in chat, I do NOT expect or want a MOD to waste their time answering my question. So please don't! If I want to ask a question to a MOD I will specifically state so before the question.

@LowerClassOverflowian All your current mSO rep will go to mSE. Your new mSO rep will be your current rep on SO.

@LowerClassOverflowian too bad. gonna answer it anyway :P
@LowerClassOverflowian the plan is to start with 0 questions and carefully (sort of) select which ones should be migrated. there's a lot of cruft on MSO right now that isn't really worth preserving or worrying about.
the reputation will behave like Undo said.

@Undo Wow, so Jon Skeet will start with 600K rep. Wowsers, lol

It doesn't really matter. Reputation on child metas always reflects the main site.

But mSO will become a true per-site meta, so Jon won't be able to gain any rep on the new mSO except by gaining it on SO.
yeah

10:12 PM
@AnnaLear What's the URL for the dev tier mSE? :P

@hichris123 that's not a thing yet
also, nice try ;)

@AnnaLear Well, apparently I took Tim's words too literally. :P a test is being brought up on our dev tier for us to poke and prod.

Hmm. That might be true... I'm not sure if that already happened. Oded's working on that, and he's usually signing off right around the time when I get to the office :)

looks for link to dev.mse

@Anna Or possibly he meant being brought up in six to eight weeks. ;)

10:17 PM
That could also be true.

10:35 PM
@Undo will upvotes only indicate agreement on the meta without rep gain, then?

yeah

neat

Just like on meta.SU or any other per-site meta.

I think that's for MSO, not MSE
because MSE can't inherit rep from anywhere

No more bounties!
That's okay. They really aren't crucial to MSO anyway

10:55 PM
at the risk of sounding like an idiot and getting slammed, as I am not a member of SO, what happens to my meagre rep?

@Helios You keep it. That stays a part of metaStackExchange
Nothing to worry about for you.

what if any of the questions I answered get moved over?

I don't think they have that all figured out yet. But yea, it could be a possibility if you answered on a SO specific question.

hmmm.....
oh crap, i think all of my answers are to SO specific/based questions

I wouldn't worry about it now, since there is a good possibility that they will choose to NOT move a lot of questions over anyways. They will likely just move the better questions over.

11:05 PM
dang it

I wonder if they have any plans to make the META.SE reputation, the equivalent of the total of your rep from all sites..
At least as of now it won't be like that

@LowerClassOverflowian Doubtful. That sounds like you could take advantage of the 100 point signup bounty to gain free rep there.

yeah, combined site rep doesn't really make much sense

probably should delete that account too..

There are some issues with MSE rep, but overall it does kind of work out to a rough measure of how knowledgeable you're about the meta aspects of the network. it's effectively your "stack exchange support rep"

11:10 PM
yup, my answers are to SO based questions
so I'll most likely lose them (and the associated rep) in the split

You only have 1 answer of your 4 that is SO specific : )

it is based on SO though - based on the examples and what is referred to in those questions

Yea, but they aren't SO only. The questions and answers could apply to any site.

it'd be logical to move them as they are based on SO though that's what I reckon will happen

I expect that we're going to be very conservative about migrating things over to the new MSO.

11:17 PM
not sure what that means

It's true, a lot of things on the current MSO are born out of SO, but they are generally applicable and taking them away from the-future MSE seems like a disservice.

@AnnaLear but it is not certain

I wouldn't overthink this. Treat the new MSO as an effectively new site. Let people ask questions there and if they were already covered the current MSO, we can either migrate them over or just answer the new MSO question with a link to the network-wide meta.

@TimWolla LOL. I do get a kick out of some of the suggested edits.

11:19 PM
It's not really a big deal.

ok, sorry

There is no migration policy that will work in 100% of the cases. Conveniently, we have humans who can oversee this and make decision on a case-by-case basis. :) It's going to be a fair amount of work, for sure, but I think we'll come out alright in the end.
@Helios No need to apologize. I'm here to provide perspective. I've been a fairly strong proponent of the split internally, so I spent a bunch of time thinking about the implications and how it would possibly work in practice.

@AnnaLear But these humans unfortunately happen to be moderators : (

@LowerClassOverflowian I am glad that I could untick “this was helpful” on some Too Minor ones before
Wow, the suggested edit changed AFTER I reviewed it.

@LowerClassOverflowian I'm not sure what you mean by "unfortunately" there, but the initial set of moderators on MSE will be the community team @ SE.

11:21 PM
Should this be the case?

@Helios I would like to commend you for your questions. You are one of the most polite people who come into chat, and you are never judgmental or aggressive. So no need to apologize- I think you are doing just fine. :)

@TimWolla In principle, sure. It takes more than one person to review an edit.

@AnnaLear Now I look like a retard for my reject reason :(
I would have rejected it anyway, but with another reason.

@TimWolla Yeah, your reason choice is a bit odd. i wouldn't worry about it, though.
There are far worse transgressions in suggested edits :)

:)

11:26 PM
@AnnaLear No. Originally that suggested edit said something like "GO**** THIS MINOR EDIT HAD TO ADD CHARACTERS" in the post! But then on refresh, it didn't show that anymore
So I guess, the suggested editor, must of done another edit on the same post right after his first or something
@TimWolla Had the correct reason, how it originally was.

Yes
4
Q: Why can a suggested edit change while in review?

stemaI reviewed an edit and rejected it, because it was wrong. I wanted to know what happened to this edit and checked the link in my activity - reviews. I was quite surprised, the edited question I saw there was not the one I rejected! When I rejected it the code looked like: String str1 = "My ho...

oh, that. hrm. it looks like one of the approvers picked the "improve" option
and still let the original edit stand as "helpful"

@AnnaLear Shouldn't Community approve it then?

@TimWolla no, I don't think so
to be fair, there are so many edge cases with these now that I'm a little hazy on what's what, but I'm pretty sure this is legit.
unfortunate in this specific case, but legit.

@AnnaLear Well, it always did, when I improved. It accepted / rejected depending on my checkbox.
Also: The Edit reason changed afterwards. See the Question I linked above.

11:30 PM
yeah, that'd do it

11:48 PM
@TimWolla not sure about that closure

The queue will handle it then, some time in the future.
But the “Best” in my opinion clearly is Primarily Opinion Based

how much time does the CM team take to weight in a feature-request?

@Braiam Six to eight weeks.

@Braiam We don't respond to every request.
Which one are you looking at?

@AnnaLear Admittedly, a little insight into what you are thinking about might be a bit better than letting a feature-request question languish. Even some sort of small comment could be nice.

11:55 PM
@BlueIce I appreciate that, but in many cases those requests aren't/can't be considered in full. We tend to wait and see where the community goes first. If an employee weighs in too early, it can really kill the discussion.
Then again, sometimes we just overlook something.
Or other priorities take precedence.
I'd say that if something isn't explicitly declined, it's possibly going to get implemented. Some time. :)
