A discussion about what's permitted as a user's avatar is legitimated ...

... can't seem to find the post

user202362

Or gone with the user?

user202362
Gone with the user?

user202362
1:03 PM
How?

Ah yep, Community deleted and the OP is gone. So the result of account deletion it seems

user202362
account not been replaced by userxxxx instead?

Yes, it has been
Hmm, not sure if it's a full account deletion or a disassociation
In any case, perhaps a mod knows. This is the link: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/221479/…

I hereby propose that we all switch our avatars to a MLP based icon to avoid further discussion.
rep < 1k --> filly icon
1k<= rep < 5k --> pony icon
5k<= rep < 20k --> unicorn icon
20k<= rep < --> winged unicorn icon

I was actually quite surprised by the response the OP got on that question

hi

hi Ammy (yep, it is an Okami reference)

@Flyk The invasion has begun

youtube.com/watch?v=anwy2MPT5RE <--- replace with Tim
"No, Josh is not here. Nor is Josh or Joshua. There is Tim though. Tim has left. And Tim could be here any moment"

Anything I can do about an old answer (that's still high profile) with a downright incorrect accepted answer by a person who has left the site already?

@Benjamin downvote and comment, that's all you can do.
Unfortunately.

It's high profile, and it's educating many people poorly :(
Maybe I should ask it again, answer it properly, and close the old one as a duplicate of this one

It sure sucks yeah, I asked the same a little while ago for this question but policy is they don't want to remove incorrect answers. Except in extreme circumstances, but I don't know what the definition of that is.

@Undo I fixed the CV script :D

my brain hurts
somebody decided to start the "Stack Exchange sucks because it's not a forum" argument in one of the chat rooms I'm in
he's stuck in an infinite loop and just doesn't get it

@Flyk link?

Also the puke that shot me down, "has an app" , but on my pre 4.2 device that function (which i was going to cover tomorrw with screenshots) already has that function. Q: Shortest BF program to output uppercase 'A'

sfeuzEsteemed Members of StackOverflow, the following brainfuck program outputs the letter 'A' and it is the shortest such program known to me. That is why I am asking the BF SOers here: Do you think there is a shortest one? ++++++++[>++++++++<-]>+. Little known fun-fact: there is a free BF-interp...

^ ???

lol

2:11 PM
so yeah, @Doorknob, that guy is a bit... special

lol

@Doorknob :)

I did :P
okay, I have to leave now

Bugs that happen sometimes. The best kind.

@Doorknob yay! I. Must. Test. Now.

2:34 PM
is there a CM floating around?

counts there are four in here.

who?

Tim, Anna, Shog, and Pops

which Tim?

Tim Post, lord of the swag.

2:37 PM
lol
they look to be sleeping

Tim Post isn't
He talked four seconds ago in an employee room.
Or maybe he is and he is spouting utter nonsense.

do i dare summon the swag-lord to help a mere low-rep pleb request?

Worse case he destroys your account.
Best case he's really helpful
;)
So yes, do.

that's... um... reassuring....

Hehe
@TimPost a lowly plebe wants your assistance.
(you see, that's how you approach CMs)

2:43 PM
@Undo, I am a truly a low plebe - a mere school teacher
and weekend academic

Oooh, school teacher! bows low
I am a mere student

school teachers are often derided...
weekend academics more so

not by me, they aren't

and worse still, I am a ...gasp... physics teacher

I like physics teachers.
My favorite teacher was a physics teacher

2:46 PM
i am one of the crazy type

yay!

got a PhD in Physics (the thesis makes a fine doorstop for all the good it has done)

Can I undo a reject vote on a suggested edit?
I stared for two minutes to find the typo it fixed, didn't see any (other than whitespace). But now I suddenly see it.

but anyways, enough about my irrelevancies, I think @TimPost is busy
@Shog9, are you there?
@Undo, i think i will have to pursue my request the old fashioned way

@Amaterasu WHO HATH SUMMONED aww just kidding, what's up?

2:54 PM
@TimPost it was I, my liege
I need thouest assistance in nuking an account that makes this lowly plebe unhappy in several ways

I just happen to be juggling photon torpedos, what account?
If it's your own, you gotta go through the looking glass (the /contact page is on every site)
But we routinely roast spammers that folks discover here

ahh it is one of my own.... a site that my frequented tags are on topic, but frustratingly of no interest (and not worthy of research)
I figured that rather waste their (an my) time with unpopular questions (=unanswered), I would just nuke it and wait for a very topical site on A51 to come out of incubation
@TimPost so I should looking glass it eh?
now i scared him off again?
okay, sorry to have bothered folks

3:14 PM
@Amaterasu Just use the contact page, I'm sure they won't mind :)

no worries, done... once again, sorry to be a bother - I am sure that you guys have more important things to discuss

@Amaterasu Not really :p

We're a tavern - nothing we regulars discuss is important.

I am sure that you guys have more important things to discuss <--- ha ... hahaha ... HAHAHA ... WAHAHAHAHA

@Amaterasu Yeah, just contact us, doesn't take long to get done. Also, I hop between about 100 different things, if an employee lags in replying to you it's just because they're working their way back to whatever room they were in after doing something else.

3:24 PM
@Bart they have. They are currently discussing the next swag giveaway. Right? Right??? RIGHT??

well, i should qualify that statement - more important than a visiting plebe

@Amaterasu erm
nothing important ever happens in chat
NOTHING
no matter what anybody tells you

am not a regular, but a very low ranking member

winces
SR just got a migration from a graduated site ;(
This is a peek at things to come

SR?

3:38 PM

@Amaterasu If they let me, a sharepoint dev, stay here despite the smell of sulphur and ashes I believe no one will have nothing to say against the sun goddess. Just please, leave the solar disk outside, chat room isn't fire proof.

aaah but I am but a mere teacher and worse, a 'weekend academic'

I don't always ask for or give software recommendations, but when I do, I do it on Software Recommendations Stack Exchange.
4

software recommendations....hmmm

@TimPost I'm Commander Shepard and Software Recommendations is my favourite site on the Stack Exchange.

3:43 PM
hmmm i may have a question for that site

@Amaterasu Make sure it's very specific.

14
Q: What is required for a question to contain "enough information"?

FlykThis is the question edition of What is required for an answer to be high quality? One of the key problems that I see Software Recommendations having, is people asking extremely vague and simple questions that ultimately boil down to one of the two close reasons we see on the rest of the network...

it is very specific.. possibly too specific

@Flyk , maybe, but the Dovahkiin still prefers Arqade

There...
Brain...
Wall...
Splat...
@SPArchaeologist THERE IS NO U IN ARQADE
Sorry, I just went through a mental breakdown
I survived though

3:45 PM
i don't know how to word the question though

I have no idea whether I am right in the chat, but can we get this done: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/119844/… (Synonymize repositories to repository)?

@Flyk At least it was brief.

@Flyk U? which U? did anyone see an U anywhere?

@TimPost true
@SPArchaeologist edit history
This morning I woke up, completely tired and unable to function

@TimWolla On it

3:46 PM
@TimPost Thanks.

I went into my sock drawer and spent 10 minutes choosing a pair of socks
I am going to create a label for my sock draw which says "Sock Overflow"

in Soviet Korea, socks pick you

@Flyk don't worry, I will send you an Arquade sticker for your laptop if you insist :P

I don't want an Arqade sticker
I want a gaming.stackexchange.com sticker
Arqade is such a stupid name
and the logo has nothing on the pixel heart
pixel heart 4 lyfe

@Flyk not Arqade, Arquade

3:48 PM
@SPArchaeologist I haven't set fire to anybody for over a month, the next time I set fire to somebody it will burn like thermite
just sayin'

is invisible??

@Flyk after that fight against the phoenix on Ultima Online that lasted 7 hours I have started to develop a natural fire resistance. That, and Fire Leo from VJ....

@TimWolla So uh, it just blew up when I tried it, might take a hot second :)

@SPArchaeologist nothing is immune to my fire

in Webmasters on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 2 days ago, by John Conde
The Software Recommendation site is now in public beta. All software recommendation questions will now be migrated there. If you see a new software recommendation question please flag it for migration. Please do not flag old questions as they are not allowed to be migrated.
^ Halp webmasters is trying to send all their trash to us!

3:54 PM
IIRC, if a migrated question is closed on the destination site, isn't it automagically sent back?
Also, don't our mods (yes I know we have none) get to reject?

I don't think so.

Seems like I'll have to checkout SR in the next days as well – with a good question (hopefully)

also I'm chatting in the wrong room
O_O

@Flyk "said the Human Torch, just before he get trapped by a fire extinguish trap. For the thousandth time"

@Flyk It did automagically move the question back! webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/58559/…
It unlocked it on their end and locked it on our end.

3:59 PM
Yay Ping Ping :-)
Ping Pong i mean

@Undo Excuse me, wasn't that the precise purpose of that collection site :P?

@SPArchaeologist ಠ_ಠ

@Undo I thought it did

@Undo Does the script work? :-D

@Doorknob Yup, did all my reviews in like 10 minutes :D

4:02 PM
(I'm currently in the orchestra room; we got dismissed early :-P)

@Undo No? I must have misunderstood then... now, I must get going (quickly runs to SharePoint to stop the garbage cargo that was about to depart)

@Undo Yay!
Oh wow, happy SO birthday, me! :-P I just earned a Yearling
I wonder when my meta birthday is :-P

I don't have a single yearling badge
cry

March 2nd @Doorknob
Gah, the PDF Javascript API is hell ... or rather the documentation ... or lack thereof

When I run that script, is it supposed to print "when called" and "oops" to the console?

4:12 PM
@Stijn Ermmm... ahem you saw nothing
I'll fix it when I get home

@Doorknow OK :) I've never used it, I'll give it a go at home then

4:27 PM
"this part of the site is running really slow", says a customer
looks at database
table with 200k records in it is getting tablescanned 18 times during one stored procedure
table has no index on it
facedesk

4:44 PM
were these approves bad, or punishably bad?

bad
facepalm bad, but that's about it

am I right the edit made the post worse?
for OCDs

Wait a sec ... that same user made 3 accepted suggested edits
And does that quite often stackoverflow.com/users/1977104/…

sigh stackoverflow.com/users/1019630/… is still successfully suggesting bogus inline code edits ;(

@ShadowWizard Or I just left my computer on while I went on vacation and then took sick leave because of what happened on vacation.

4:47 PM
He's milking the same post for suggested edits...
Fixing the issues one edit at a time

Say @Pops, is editing behaviour like this grounds for a time-out/warning? stackoverflow.com/users/1977104/…

has "at most one rep bonus per post" been suggested?

Multiple edits on the same question, time and time again, often very minor or non-sensical.

Wow. This piece of nonsense took exceptionally long to generate.

@Bart Yeesh. Never seen that before. Looks like a problem to me, although I don't want to rush to say it's abuse, it could just be ignorance or confusion about how editing works here.

4:54 PM
@Pops in which case our robots are excaberating that misunderstanding

He's done it quite a few times in the past.

Yeah @Pops, I don't see any pattern of the same approvers. And I guess he only does it because it works. Proper reviews should have stopped that a long time ago.

inb4 this gets milked as well

Like this: stackoverflow.com/posts/21854057/revisions Adding one tag at a time.

4:55 PM
The third one he tried to submit got rejected.

Can we have too minor review audits, please?

@JanDvorak Yes, please
And in general not that Markov-Chain-audit

why do I even try?

I skipped that one

@TimWolla despite it codifying above error?

4:59 PM
Maybe we, as moderators, need to take a more aggressive approach with the review banning here.

Please do

@JanDvorak Overlooked that one, hard to see in the big green because of the moving

@TimWolla easier to see in the markdown view

That one's hard to tell without looking more closely. The green really takes your eyes away from the changed formatting.

Yeah, I do switch between those, but still it is a large green blob

5:01 PM
I'd wager that 90% of people reviewing don't know about the markdown view.

@animuson can we make it the default?

I'd rather say that 90% don't know about the reject button :P

@JanDvorak It really should be. There can be a lot of things in the Markdown view that just plain aren't visible in the rendered view.

I can understand "too radical", but I don't get "too minor" here

@JanDvorak Maybe a misclick?

5:07 PM
should this have been approved?
@TimWolla I'll believe that

@JanDvorak I don't think so

I never unchecked the 'edit was helpful' checkbox
yet the edit got rejected status
how is that possible?

@JeroenVannevel you should have

We've noticed that you've been making series of very minor suggested edits to the same post within short amounts of time. This behavior is troubling for several reasons:

- Each edit you make uses up the time of our reviewers whom could be focusing on more substantial issues with our site, rather than reviewing a single tag edition or a slight indentation fix.

- Continued minor edits fill up the revision history for the post, making it harder to see how the post has changed over time and pushing it closer to an automatic community wiki state.

5:09 PM
Nice

@animuson looks great
except the "you may not be" part seems a little naive :-)

https://stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4126042
What about this one? The editor changed the `reg` to `regress`, is that valid?

@JanDvorak actually I shouldn't. There is not even a notion of any picture in the original post, this guy just edited it to add the picture
I'm not even sure if I should've added it myself, I can't find a source where the OP might've referenced it

@JeroenVannevel huh...

I don't want to get into a "you're accusing me of things" rant in a mod message

5:11 PM
thus my emoticon ;-)

Why is the word "moderator" not capitalized in my signature?
Ughhh how many messages have I sent with improper grammar? freaks out

technically it shouldn't be.

It's a title of a position, though.
Awww it rounds up. :(
Lame.

5:15 PM
@animuson whom have you just downvoted? :-)

I swear, it landed on that number!

http://chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/1845519#1845519
Seems it went unnoticed, what's your opinion?

@TimWolla Improve it by changing it back to reg and leave a comment asking if it should be regress
the edit is good otherwise

Ummm I don't know much about stats so I couldn't say.

Oh, the thanks is still in there
Throw that away as well
I don't like rejecting edits if it's a matter of being incomplete
if they're plain wrong: reject. If they're incomplete: improve

5:19 PM
@JeroenVannevel Sure, I forgot about the Edit option. Done.
But did not remove the Thanks, crap.

@JeroenVannevel but then you get overrun by robots

@JanDvorak It's why I stopped doing the suggested edit queue regularly. To keep my sanity

@JeroenVannevel I use the flags foor that purpose

@JanDvorak When I saw the title I was hoping for something very different.
But still +1

@JanDvorak +1

A: Suggested edits that change links should jump out and punch reviewers in the face

Jan DvorakI believe this punches the reviewers hard enough: I have implemented a userstyle that highlights any edited link, whether it is a link or just the description: http://userstyles.org/styles/98439/suggested-edit-face-punch Of course, this doesn't fix the problem for reviewers that just don't ...

Wooo I have 2,222 reputation on The Workplace. ^_^

@Pops sorry to hear that! What happened in the vacation, if I might ask? Are you well now?

Ate some bad fish (at least, the fish is my top suspect). Yes, all is now well. Thanks for asking.
But the lesson is to not trust the super-faded-out tail of the "people in the chatroom" list.

@Flyk Stop cross posting :P
busy day in here today.
@Flyk the only way to reject is to close it once it comes in.
and no, they don't get sent back AFAIK.

I'd say so
Far too extreme

This is so gonna come back to bite me in the ass. :P

it looks ugly :P

7:29 PM
OOP made me do it.

I want SE to send out an email to all the mods on tech sites that says this: "Message from important people: '>:(' - The SR folks regarding your recent migrations."

None of them came form us. :x

no, but they might eventually.

@Undo I will tell you that this issue was just brought up in the TL.

I know

7:42 PM
@Undo What?

People are already starting to migrate to SR
:P

15 minutes
Dang it that's during my L.A. class :-P
My prediction (finishing in tenth) came true! :-P
Anyway, gtg to L.A. now

8:03 PM
hello, any moderators here?

Depends on whether or not @Undo will be elected. :D

@Bart Oh, I got a diamond :D

Ooh SR
Congrats
We couldn't possibly help you @VBAProgrammer?

why not?

That was a question, not a statement

8:05 PM
^ Bart :)

aah ok:), well i need to update some of my older posts
i've already updated 5, its says I can't do any more updating toady
today

Ah true
To prevent you from possibly damaging heaps of your own content. Ragequits and such.

I'm not damaging
the links i've posted in some of my posts are broken now, so i'm trying to fix them

nobody can lift the per-day edit restriction. you're gonna have to make your edits over a few days.

oh I see,
well thanks anyways :)

8:09 PM
Well, technically you could now @AnnaLear, being a dev and all. ;)

@Bart Heh. Removing it from the system entirely isn't quite the same... ;)

@GnomeSlice I'll check it out; thanks :)

There, did my election duty. Though there are a couple of users I really wouldn't want to see elected this time around. Don't think I had that the last couple of times.

8:16 PM
someone flagged a bunch of comments on SR >.<

@Bart I only have my first choice worked out. Gonna have to think hard about second and third.

Same here. First was a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.
Hey, you wanted to be a mod @Undo. Deal with it. :p

8:38 PM
Is your 3 votes locked in ? or can you change your mind ?

@LowerClassOverflowian you can change your mind

who did you all vote for?

I'm not revealing my votes :)
especially not while the election is active

I voted for people.

I didn't @3ventic

8:45 PM
Ok, I voted. I hope I don't regret it!

8:58 PM
@Undo Do you have your acceptance speech written yet?
@Bart Did you vote for a wombat, dog, and/or peacock by chance

@LowerClassOverflowian Acceptance speech? For what?

@LowerClassOverflowian Nope, nope and nope

To thank all the people that voted for you, supported you, and confirming to everyone that you'll do your best and promise to not use your new position for evil.

@Undo You're the only possible moderator candidate that would make me not the lowest-rep moderator anymore.

A: Why aren't we in public beta yet?

Tim PostSorry about that, folks! We normally do write a post when a private beta is being extended. Arduino just needs some more time to come up with some additional questions, just to make certain there's plenty of interesting things for folks to do once the doors open. Nothing to be alarmed at, you're...

@Pops I blame you. :P

@Bart An inanimate object? ;)

@Bart same here :/

Wouldn't you like to know @Doorknob .... :)
Yeah @Manishearth. Last election I could easily have voted for more than 3 candidates.

@Bart yep

Well there goes my votes. :P
