@PopularDemand Wouldn't have been constructive without my help (okay, technically The Establishment / Cody Gray beat me to the punch, but still).
Also, glad to see you made it back to chat. I don't know how you survived!
@DanielFischer Painfully off-topic.

Technically a dupe -- and I have voted to close as such -- but might be worth a mod's attention if the guy has improved as much as he says he has:

Q: Is there an option to delete my account?

user185615When I first signed-up to this site, I've didnt asked questions well, they werent understandable and such... So I've created a new account, reached 50 rep, and suddenly, the rep switched betwen both accounts, and now in the account I cant ask qustions, I got my 50 rep... Can you delete both of my...

@TimSiteisaForum What the f***, what the f****** f***?

@TimSiteisaForum Ah, you use that jsfiddle scraper thingamajig, right?

On the topic of chat not working... does anyone else get "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?" every hour or so while The Tavern (or any other room) is open?

@TimPost The top thing here. (Note that this post isn't quite up-to-date.)

@PopularDemand "Not I", said the Josh.
Or Tim, or whatever.

@TimSiteisaForum I was actually looking at the 'magically make all code posted on SO safe' thing

Anonymous
@TimPost Oh. Oh, okay. The cursing made me feel I needed to rush to explain.

Downvoters, why do you hate secure code?! — Bill the Lizard 4 mins ago
He forgot the '@' symbol. Shouldn't he know that's how you alert all the downvoters?
Haha, dude has asked the question again. I believe he's confused now =/

> PS: This is not a bot. I was told by the Stack Exchange Team to pose this question here.

7:23 PM
ha - didn't even manage to squeeze in my CV :P

Sigh. I really wanted to help that guy out, but he is not helping himself.

I wish people realized the benefits of watching a community for a little while before just posting something.

I remain surprised at how violently that proposal was hated. I wonder if the OP already e-mailed team@, since his second post said they were the ones who told him to ask on Meta.

Gone

@Timjadarnel27 you're being constructive again. That must stop.

7:26 PM
@PopularDemand I nudged him in that direction prior to deleting his posts

Did anyone actually click through to that person's website?

@TimPost I noticed that.

Lix
So he did ask it - twice and both times it was received badly... happens all the time...

FYI: he emailed team@ first - I told him if he was serious to take it to Meta and look for community support.

Anonymous
@Timjadarnel27 I registered and poked around because I thought it would be funny if I could find a security flaw in it. :V

7:26 PM
@DanielFischer Ack, sorry. I'll try and tone it down.

I'm gonna take this response as... a lack of community support.

Lix
@timsi - hehehe

@Shog9 One might draw that conclusion.

Lix
wrong to delete both of them IMO...
a sea of down votes is better than a quick close to convey a lack of support...

@PopularDemand It definitely got off to a bad start (what with being closed and all).

7:28 PM
@Lix It's SPAM. When you boil it down, it comes to 'pay us for this and we'll do this', I don't see any reason to extend that user the convenience of leaving it around.

Lix
I didn't really get to analyze it closely, but it was obvious that it was his* software he was trying to plug - was there a disclosure to that matter?

@Lix Additionally, it's hyperbole .. Stack Overflow has a lot of tags.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a pay service. I thought he was trying to start a community initiative of some kind and hadn't asked clearly.

Lix
I think he was just suggesting a new feature... users wouldn't pay... would be SE i'd assume

Now I understand the violent hatred.

Anonymous
7:31 PM
I'm not sure it was a pay service. He already had one security flaw from a Stack Overflow post in his index.

This whole 'Stack overflow is full of insecure code that people might run, let us check it for you' crap just did not set well with me. With (how many questions do we have) how could it not be?

He presented it extremely poorly. I think he was offering this to SO for free as a way to drum up publicity for his company, but you could be forgiven for reading MSO and not knowing that.

Lix
can I get a sneaky sneaky 10K/♦ screen shot to read it again possibly? please? O:-)

It's in the transcript @Lix =)
Right here.

Lix
Ohh... riiight... cool... :P I knew that scroll wheel would come in handy one day :)

7:33 PM

And his company wants to add a 'note' to every post that they don't like, in an authoritative way.
If they really wanted to help, they would ask how we'd like the results in order to review them.

Lix
Well... sorry folks... it is a terrible idea.. but lets be honest... we've seen worse here... Still don't think it should have been deleted so fast...

@Lix What good could come from more people telling them it's a horrible idea? I think they got the point.

Argh. Shouldn't be so hard to figure out whether I was A) nobly defending a poor new user who was being unfairly maligned, or B) a pitiable victim who had the wool pulled over his eyes by a slimy spammer.

@PopularDemand But it's not about you :) They can try again.

Lix
7:37 PM
@timP - I just think meta is a scary place if you are new... For a first experience (lets assume it is) that's quite a jolt...
Leave it closed even... but not wiped under the 10K+ radar :P

@Lix to be clear this was not a user. And they spammed the site twice.

Lix
True hey - I did notice that they only had a fresh meta account...

If you guys really think those questions should exist, I'll undelete them.. but really, should they?

Lix
well not both of them :P

What possible constructive purpose would they serve, and why should they attract more attention?

7:40 PM
I guess I just don't like deletion on Meta much. It's possible for a truly stupid or impractical suggestion to be on-topic and valid.

Anonymous
Well, there have been discussions before about the correct way to handle posts that are vulnerable to SQL injections and stuff. Here we get to see how people feel about one possible approach. =P

It can also be helpful as a "look, we already had this discussion" in the rare case where someone comes along later with a similar off-the-wall proposal.

Lix
@timp - possibly none - but other feature requests wouldn't be obliterated like that... Regarding the double post - why can't it be assumed as simply a misunderstanding of the system?

The double post was probably because Shog explicitly told him to post to Meta.

Lix
Well yes.. that could have been part of it...

7:42 PM
I'll undelete the last incarnation.

Lix
I'm fighting for this guy and I feel the need to disclose that its NOT me okaaay?????
you do not want to put me in charge of any security.... no thanks... :P

Hey, Judaism SE graduated!

Anonymous
@PopularDemand and they got a real name!

And my comment about e-mailing the team, since he .. well .. did that

Lix
Can I post a Mazal Tov post? ;)

7:45 PM
@Lix You sound like this guy =) I told him his code had a SQL injection hole and he basically said "someone else fixes all my security flaws"

Lix
@timj - Ha! That sound like it could get...messy...

@Timjadarnel27 Wait, what? Where can I sign up for a job where I can give 50% and have someone else fix my bugs for me?

Lix
@pop (ahhh... finaly a normal user name to ping ;)... I've heard digitsec does something similar...

@PopularDemand I guess you could ask the guy where he works =)

I was considering changing to "Anna Popular Demand" today. Or going retro with "Michael Popular Demand."

7:50 PM
Alright, well, it will get down voted to hell some more and deleted in a few days.

@Lix Yeah, it seems weird to have someone writing code, and then someone else looking for security vulnerabilities in the same code and fixing them.

Lix
@timp - I had no doubt... but a fair chance is a fair chance no?

@Lix it was beyond a fair chance at the time I deleted it.
But, well, everyone loves a train wreck :)

I saw saw this comment and didn't notice the date for a few seconds. It fits the present so well...

I'm also thinking of just changing my name to "Tim's Post" for general hilarity. — Tim Post Jul 21 '10 at 13:14

7:53 PM
Hahahaha
@Lix Are you going to vote to reopen it?

Lix
@jad - Hellz no - I don't want anyone poking around my code for security holes... :P

If some company could magically poke around all code posted on SO and send us improvements to apply .. well .. you know, they could also just suggest edits.
Or, you know, earn enough rep to edit?

Lix
should have added status by design - users point out security vulnerabilities all the time...

Stack Overflow is responsiblez for muh malwarez!!! lol

Lix
/racks brain... how do you do that status thingy? I knew how once a upon a time... :/

8:00 PM
laughs.

status-pro

Lix
@sto, show-off :P

(removed)

Yeah, I mean 1 - It's FUD. 2 - It's smoke an mirrors and 3 - There's no concrete implementation to test. Right now, it's just SPAM, and every second it exists they get more traffic.

8:00 PM
And @Shog9 Told them to do it. Oh my head, my aching head.
By deleting, I cancelled the consultation prize.

@TimPost I didn't click the link, personally. :P

But, well, if you guys want to keep a dead horse around for a few more days to kick .. far be it from me to stop you :)
Now if they want to try again .. whoops, there's a duplicate.

Lix
another post would constitute a full on spam attack... :P

status-this-used-to-work-for-me-but-now-it-does-not
Oh. Or it does.

The idea seriously was partially birthed. I'll delete it in a few days, all concerned would be a bit better off once I do :)

8:05 PM
Oh, I'm an idiot. That was the problem all along.

Anyone care to revert this edit of an article on a player I'd never heard of today and who has no claim to fame? My shared IP is blocked from editing.
status-I-think-I-have-a-problem

@mmyers LOL. What a strange edit.

Check out his other edits. All highly entertaining.

8:21 PM
Did I do that correctly? I tried to rollback the edit.

Looks right, thanks
I don't know why I even care

@mmyers Can a mod migrate this to chat.meta.wikipedia.org?

Haha, no problem.
@mmyers That stuff is amazing.
> It was later discovered that Sammy Sosa had locked the real Mark Prior in the managers office while Matt Clement wore a mask of Prior, designed by teammate Kenny Lofton, and pitched for him on that day. Cub Manager, Dusty Baker, praised Sosa for such his veteran leadership and coming up with such a great plan.

I didn't even know Major League Baseball had a draft system.

It has like 800 rounds. I'm pretty sure my dog was drafted last year
as a pinch-runner, obviously

8:28 PM
I assumed ball boy. My mistake.

8:38 PM
@PopularDemand Is that the person that sets the tee back up after I knock it over repeatedly with the bat because of my lack of coordination and depth perception?

... yeah, sure, let's go with that.

Little known fact: I am pretty much a baseball expert.

> [Alex Cora] would hand out free Honey Baked Hams to people before games on the 4th of July and had even been known to give out bottles of Crown Royal to bums in his community.
lmao

Hahahaha
Dear Android spelling correction thingamajig,
I never, ever want to type "thay". I'm always shooting for "that".
Love,
Josh

Off-topic; belongs on McSweeney's.

8:48 PM
I don't get the reference (although I did just look up that website). Thus, I will be offended by default.
Because apparently that's what I'm doing today.
In related news: Your mom belongs on McSweeney's yessssss

The fact that you're offended offends me. It's actually rather difficult to get published on McSweeney's; I've known more than one good author whose submissions were rejected.
scripted responses [009 waste]: better to just skip the question if you aren't experienced or knowledgeable with the topic -- i don't support chatter (which is also against stackex policy) cluttering up questions across stackex sites, and being pretty much all waste -- thanks! — designparadise 7 mins ago

@PopularDemand I don't understand that comment at all

Some of us posted joke comments under a not-very-good post, and the author got offended that we were using the comment space for non-constructive content.

9:06 PM
@PopularDemand The OP should be happy they weren't terribly punny joke comments, like this one:
var'y good question! — Richard 11 hours ago

I have got to find a better "dynamic thing to keep in the background at work" than The Tavern, and get away from SE madness. Maybe an aquarium simulator.

You could have a genocide simulator in the background and it would be less mad.

Also less SFW. 99% of the time.

I'm having a hipster latte. It tastes a lot like a non-hipster latte. Just sayin'.

9:22 PM
Woohoo!

Well, that's it @Moshe is officially nerd-cooler than me. I may as well pick a new career.
I mean, congrats!

Haha
Thanks!

@Timootinator Urban Dictionary has failed me. At the risk of having to redo my recent SFW/NSFW calculation, what's a hipster latte?

Goes into the subway, where no cell phone service has ever gone before.
2

@PopularDemand A latte made by someone who looks like this as opposed to this

9:40 PM
@Timootinator On second thought, even this suggestion could work, if it were a text-only app of some kind.

@PopularDemand A text adventure!

Timootinator is disturbingly close to Terminator at first glance.

> Emperor-bot is ANGRY. Emperor-bot has decided to take out his ANGER on ${ethnicGroup}.

Actually, based on my pet ownership history, I think we may be talking about the same program.

A wild JEW appears?
^H^H^H^H
Darnit.
Am I even thinking of Pokemon with the random capitalized words?
Humans. Gotta catch em all.

9:47 PM
I never played Pokemon. Also, I hereby distance myself as far as legally possible from this conversation.
5

Wild Jew?

Is that a bit of a paradox?

I'm a little confused by that remark @moot.
I dunno. Do you know any Jewish people irl?

I'm making light of genocide here, I don't think there's anything about that which isn't confusing. I do know a couple, yes.

I'd prefer that you didn't make light of genocide please.

9:49 PM
I understand.

Mkay? Thanks.
Ok cool.

Anonymous
The Pokémon metaphor doesn't fit very well, anyway.

:-)

@TimSiteisaForum 'Well, no not really.

I grew up on that game.
An I'm Jewish.
Coincidence? I think not.
:-D

9:51 PM
@Moshe I don't know whether to laugh at that or distance myself from this and all previous comments as much as possible, taking @Pop's lead of course.

Eh ok. Tbh, seeing wild Jew on the Internet is a bit offensive, but I get the impression it wasn't malicious, as long as that's the case, it's all good.
No worries.
Ok, Shabbat shalom folks.
Have a good one @moot.
@timoot, whoops.
:-)
Tims...

Later.

theman's various accounts were always a source of amusement and flags. I think that was his third.

I didn't realize he was famous.
