@Bruce, I think there was a UX room at one point, but I can't find it now; the rooms do get auto-frozen after a certain period of inactivity.
No guarantees that we're all experts, but you're welcome to ask... and @balpha there was in charge of implementing this chat, so he obviously knows a thing or two.
@PopularDemand right, I could always ask a question on ui.stackexchange about where people go to discuss things (I guess a lot of people are on very specific mailing lists)

It's just that formulating a specific question can take quite a lot of effort by itself
Instead of just a general "Hey, does anybody know any patterns with regards to being able to integrate 'giving weight' to things in a user interface for organizing video content?"
@BrucevanderKooij Your technical language has lost me, but SE is really big on objective questions with demonstrably correct answers. YMMV on UI. The only site I know of where this pattern isn't followed is -- tragically -- cooking. And Programmers, but that's a special case, blah, blah, blah.
I admit that volume will help you even if your questions are atrocious, but at least Jeff is trying to fix that. I have a list of a dozen users in my head who should be banned but haven't been yet.
Okay, now that I've had a second to think, it may not actually be a dozen, but there are at least six for sure.

But, assuming you're not scandalous, you don't have to be ultra-smart: there are questions that don't get answered but aren't terribly hard - they just need someone to take the time and understand them
the damn thing cut power to all devices last night but we had no power failure... the system on it would have been better off directly connected to the wall!
An unfortunate trend I've noticed recently is a tendency for users to post answers stating that they couldn't reproduce the problem in the question (while others post the code with random changes that either accomplish nothing, or break something that used to work)
you should at least try to verify the problem before attempting to fix it (assuming you haven't previously encountered it yourself)
Stack Overflow has been wildly successful. And maybe in some ways too successful.

@PopularDemand A month or two after I was first hired here, I spent a week or so reading Joel on Software from start to finish. That's how I learned about Stack Overflow, which was in private beta at the time.
I've been considering a MSO post about the difference between Fog Creek and SO Internet Services, Inc. and Joel Spolsky/Jeff Atwood, private human beings. Some people don't seem to get that they're not the same. Though it's been better of late, which is why I haven't actually written that post.

What was the rational behind this change? Personally, I find hyphens more logical
