Again, this is what I get for trying to debug and chat simultaneously. Why isn't the system reding my fonts? What kind of readhead joke can I make here in chat?
@RebeccaChernoff Hard to tell, your Gravatar has a slight reddish tint. But that could be @YiJiang 's Christmas script playing tricks on my eyes ;-)
@Zypher just a heads up if you WERE to come across any then ;) LSPCI would show the devices, but some apps (X used to be this way) won't be able to talk to them. Windows needs a hotfix/patch
I am using the Motion package for linux to act as a security system with two Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 webcams. In general it's working very well but I'm experiencing a weird issue. Every now and then the feed from one cam will exhibit "crosstalk" or "crossover" from the other cam, in sweeping ba...
And if you REALLY want to learn hardware, I can suggest no better starting place than arstechnica and Jon Stokes articles from when he was doing the CPU articles (mostly only findable via google, not via arspaedia)
@TheUnhandledException but when you goto read them, try and dig up articles from as far back as you can for him and read forward. He does a really good breakdown and from my EE and CS formal education I'ld say he's pretty spot on but he explains it well. It'll carry you through Celeron's into Core series and cover a bit of the entire architecture along the way.
I've also learned northbridge/southbridge stuff from poring over Intel documentation amongst other sources, which is always fun, when you have NO clue what you're looking for ;) ... I do know that they have some complex silicon on those boards tho.
@Zypher I know right? However, I still had to support 486's at my last job (industrial stuff that hasn't changed since that day) and plenty of ISA boards.
@TheUnhandledException Updated. Although, seriously speaking, the color scheme is extremely gaudy, I assure you it is completely usable - I've checked that all of the colors don't clash - I used it for about two hours now... and I want to dig my eyes out
btw pet peve hardware vendors make you boot to DOS to flash your firmware but give you no way to boot to DOS so you have to go searching all over the intertubes for a boot image that doesn't require a floppy
You ever play with any distributed computing there @Zypher? I know some guys into big supercomputing, like condor or I know some guys doing crunching on the LHC data ~ I got to attend ISSGC'09 and talk with these guys and gals
I just asked if I could swap my cable box for one that has an HDMI port. She says yes, sure, just go to your local cable office and they'll do it on the spot. Hope I solved your problem today!
I add... "Just to be sure, this doesn't cost extra?"
I have a flash application which loads external .swf files containing embedded fonts, so that these fonts can be used within the main application. However, sometimes the requested font is not available in the external .swf file which is loaded -- this often happens when someone makes changes to t...
@TimStone Nope. If I set the text to a font that's not available, it just disappears
@Tim as you know of my product, this is for our card customizer, and the issue is, version 2.1 which I we're working on will allow website owners to change fonts available at will
but the issue is, if they remove fonts that customers are/have been using, then the customers' text will just disappear! And then I get called :-)
Ah, yeah that would make sense in this situation, since you're feeding in an HTML string. I have an idea, but I've got to run out to meet someone for lunch now, so I'll test it when I get back and let you know if it works.
@Zypher Ugh yeah, and trying to shove one of those ridiculous cables they use behind the box was...problematic. Like some massive ribbon or something. Bastards :P
@TheUnhandledException can I suggest w3schools.com/tags/att_font_face.asp just putting a DEFAULT font as a fallback when you generate the tag? That would alleviate part of the concern. Then make it a training issue when your text shows up in Comic Sans you didn't follow the directions
@TheUnhandledException what? You can't override the OnRender of the tagwriting? That's bogus! New idea, use more jQuery! ;) ... no but seriously, you can't either override it on generate or just before displaying and add that on the XML nodes? It is like XHTML yes?
@mootinator nah, it's for whining about yourself. Ya want starring, ya goto chat.SO/javascript. Ya want unicorns you goto MSO. Ya want Oys ...well you're in the right place for Oys
@TheUnhandledException tis a tavern after all ;)
@TheUnhandledException I'm sure you've seen this, but just in case not, here 'tis: actionscript.org/forums/…
@TimStone @RebeccaChernoff @YiJiang @mods WHY OH WHY OH WHY does the damned chat window blow away my text if I paste something (nominally a URL) in? I like to type logically, pasting when needed, rather than pasting, then typing. Heaven forbid if I want to use two pastes ... (notepad comes in handy). Is this a chrome issue?
