I got accepted answer O_O

After leaving SE, Laura has more time for blogging.... Spinach & Quinoa Salad with Chickpeas, Sundried Tomatoes, and Herbs

user315433

am I correct in saying that SE uses Highcharts for the reputation history chart? the Highcharts markup and the reputation graph markup are remarkably similar...

Some sanity restored: it seems that Comodo is now dropping their trademark application for "Let's Encrypt". https://forums.comodo.com/general-discussion-off-topic-anything-and-everything/trademark-registration-t115968.0.html;msg837505#msg837505
@cybermonkey there should be a post about that somewhere

3:14 PM
@Quill if not, asking on Meta about it should be OK, right?

yeah

@rene :) Thanks.

yeah, definitely looks like a customized version of Highcharts

@hichris123 ta :). thought I recognised the markup since it looked similar the graph markup on a site that I'm currently developing.

3:36 PM
@balpha I salute you!

You see the other @balpha when you try doing stuff like that.

How to kick myself?

@meatball You can't.

We can fix that though...

RUN RO ALERT

3:41 PM
var myself = $("#active-user").attr("class").split("-").splice(-1);
var room = $("input[name='room']").val();
var url = "/rooms/kickmute/" + room;
var fkey = $("#fkey").val();
$.post(url, {"userId": myself, "fkey": fkey});
@meatball ^
Should work in any room

Are ROs suspendable from chat flag?

Should be RO of course otherwise it's a lame 404 :/
@meatball of course
And RO can kick other RO
I just did in Den.... :D

Ooo...

@TIPS yup... if he really leaves SE or chat development is would be great loss... :/

user315433
> You get 10 comment flag votes per day, more at high reputation or if you have a history of helpful comment flags. -- meta.stackexchange.com/a/17365

user315433
3:49 PM
I think the type of flags doesn't matter; there's one helpful flags counter.

I put a bounty on 'What software is used to generate the reputation graphs on Stack Exchange?' since there seems to be a different question/answer for every year, and there's no source for the provided answer.

user315433
The number of flags per day appears to be the same for post flags as for comment flags (checked on two sites)

@cybermonkey there are at least three kinds of reputation graphs.
In the stackexchange.com network profile it's Highcharts, didn't check the others, might be custom made.

@ShadowWizard it doesn't make sense to use different libraries for every one of those

@cybermonkey Highcharts is overkill for the simple graph showing in summary
Plus, each graph was developed in a different time, possibly by a different developer.

3:53 PM
@Bookend Yeah, that's correct.

Hey @Jon and Shabbat Shalom! ;)

@Bookend I happen to notice you did not update the image source on your profile.

user315433
Thanks, done. The current one happens to be in public domain.

yesterday, by bjb568 is not a pebble
@bookend In your bio, profile pic source links to wrong thing.
Sad cat :(

user315433
4:09 PM
Now bjb will know that I had him on ignore all this time...

You... ignored... bjb? :O
I think I'll unpin the town hall transcripts. Not many people have wandered in here for it recently.

user248725
4:23 PM
I can't remember, is this room a ~serious room~ full of ~serious~ discussion about ~serious~ things?

@ShadowWizard I use Highcharts for the same sort of thing... it's certainly not overkill.
I do this kind of thing with it:
same sort of thing, different context, and I don't find it overkill.
@ShadowWizard Also, it can't easily be seen in the source code that it is Highcharts. The code is similar but it's nowhere near the same; it's obviously a very heavily modified version of Highcharts.
aka, your edit is incorrect to assume that
and as I said, there seem to be the same question with different answers for almost every year, which is what my bounty is trying to resolve.

@cybermonkey Shadow's talking about the rep graph here: meta.stackexchange.com/users/152859/…. Using Highcharts for that would be overkill.

@hichris123 I know.. in my opinion it's not overkill. Even if it is, doesn't that prove Shadow Wizard's edit invalid?

How so?

(that's the reputation graph I'm talking about by the way)
@hichris123 it's not obvious from the source that it's Highcharts, as I will demonstrate

4:30 PM
@hichris123 you talking about the small rep graph, or the one in the reputation tab?

@Oded The small rep graph.

It uses d3.js, not Highcharts.

@hichris123 so yeah, as I was saying, edit invalid...

No, that edit isn't invalid? The network rep chart does use highcharsts. And it is v2.2.0, all that is changed is whitespace.

@hichris123 you did see what Oded wrote, right?

user248725
4:33 PM
@Oded Well that's an official answer

@cybermonkey I said, the small rep graph. That is not the network rep graph.

@hichris123 I was referring to the total rep graph...
that's the one I've always been referring to..

Other graphs use Highcharts, including the one ShadowWizard mentioned there.

4:44 PM
@Oded d3? I saw it's SVG, built in SE internal code

Yeah - d3 outputs the SVG for the graph :)
You will see the library is referenced on the page.

user248725
You should post that as an answer to the question

Thing is... not clear which reputation graph is the one being asked about. There are at least 4 different ones that I can think exist, off the top of my head (mini graph in the profile activity page - the one in the "reputation" section next to the reputation value, another one in the reputation panel on the same page (both of these on the summary sub-tab), a third on the reputation sub-tab when viewed as graph and the last is on se.com - network profile the reputation tab.

user248725
Oh, true

user248725
Still, it's only four graphs, and you said that d3 is used for one and Highcharts for the rest

4:51 PM
In fact - the question seems to be about the one in the reputation sub-tab. For that - the current answer is completely correct.

user248725
You could comment on it to provide an official source that it uses Highcharts

> as can be seen in the page source code
Seems like something someone can check for themselves like this is enough - no need for an "official source" here :)

user248725
Is there a comment or require or <script src="..."> or something which makes explicit that it uses Highcharts?

user248725
I ask because I can't see one, but I'm also blind

Yeah, there is a "script" element.
I don't know if browser developer tools are accessible - but the "sources" tab of the Chrome browser has a tree control that lists all the sources for a page, including the scripts.

5:07 PM
@Oded OP mentions zoom, think only the network profile graph and big graph in reputation tab got it.

16 mins ago, by Oded
In fact - the question seems to be about the one in the reputation sub-tab. For that - the current answer is completely correct.

I never knew the network profile rep graph was zoomable.
Not good affordance on it.

Well, it might help if you updated Highcharts past v2.2 from 2012... :P
Although I don't think the zooming has changed much.

5:23 PM
Ha. We know... though - given it is working, not a high priority (but some of the APIs changed, IIRC, so makes it complicated to update)

Looks like the reputation graph tab uses v2.1.9 from 2011. You should standardize on one really old version. ;P

Woof. The petition to the UK parliament for triggering a second referendum has over 2 million signatures. And rising.
@hichris123 we should. They were completely separate repositories, so we have a bunch of things to consolidate.

Ah, makes sense.

Yeah - se.com has very little in common with the Q&A sites.

@Oded well, one never stop learning... ;)

5:32 PM
True dat

@Oded yeah, they crashed the server with the flood of requests...
You can vote, @Oded?
@Oded top is the same. ;)

@ShadowWizard Not in the referendum. Local elections only. And sign petitions ;)

lol, blonde moment, thought se.com got the footer of other sites

@ShadowWizard kinda. Similar, yes. As is the Area51 topbar and some other of our properties.
@ShadowWizard won't hold it against you ;)

@Oded weird. So you're... half a citizen? Don't think such thing exists in Israel. Either you can vote, or you can't.
@Oded so it's just a shallow clone, i.e. if it changes on Q&A sites you need to manually change it in se.com?

5:35 PM
@ShadowWizard I am a resident. And it exists in Israel - look for "תושב קבע"

@Oded huh, now we're even. Learned something new too. :D

@ShadowWizard as it stands right now, yeah.

@Oded Evil resident, or legit resident?

lol @מר sharp as ever! :P

How can you be a citizen but not be a citizen? I mean, you can vote but you can't vote.
You're Schrodinger's resident.

5:37 PM
@TIPS dunno, still have to look into it

@ShadowWizard I only know 'cause my mother is one. Couldn't get an Israeli citizenship without renouncing her Dutch one.
@TIPS resident != citizen.

Resizen
Citident

Residing in a country means you live there, pay taxes, in some places can vote for local election (council, mayor and such), but that isn't the same as a citizen, where you can also vote for state and legislature.

I know
I'm just messing around :)

Right now, living in the UK, that distinction bites.

5:40 PM
Right now, many things might bite in the UK I guess.

Aye

user248725
@ShadowWizard Oh yep that would do it. Thanks!

6:15 PM
Do people really think adding a capital letter fixes anything? stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/12810684

@Oded wow, that sucks... well, at least she finally got it...
yay! 8 seconds faster than @rene! :D

you win!

@hichris123 well, title should begin with capital letter, but yeah.... way too minor
@rene what's my prize?

Some of those edits also were just on questions that should be closed... stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/12810676

@TIPS dogs?

6:18 PM
@ShadowWizard Today you get serial down voted, for free, by everyone in the Tavern!

@QPaysTaxes my pleasure! :)
@rene yay! But you'll never pass @nicael - 30k in less than second.... :-D

The good old days ...

@ShadowWizard mites and ants

Ha somehow I completely messed up a title edit: meta.stackoverflow.com/posts/326806/revisions

@rene Really? Can we?

@hichris123 expontent? LOL.... :P

@ShadowWizard Apparently my fingers didn't follow my brain's lead. :P

@hichris123 I love how you leave the last bracket open in the end.

6:21 PM
@hichris123 no, I think they followed it just fine.... but your brain was busy elsewhere... ;)

@hichris123 We've all gone there

So many pings...

@ShadowWizard If you were me, what would you have taken this to mean? "elsewhere... ;)"
@hichris123 You certainly should never go to Den.

@hichris123 meager three is many? lol, you never been in the Den..... 100 is normal in there. :P

Yeah, I enjoy my sanity, no thanks.

6:24 PM
@hichris123 well, Enjoy the Silence! ;)

If you like pings you might want to try this on a busy tag ...

@TIPS you mean if I was @ber.... and recently I start suspecting you're becoming more and more like him.... :-D

@ShadowWizard Says who? I'm certainly less dirty than, say, 3.6 years ago.
@hichris123 How else would we have fed Tavern with so many timeless chatterers?

@TIPS really? Based on the pics you post and questions you ask.... that's not the case! :P
@Boo how did you overcome the 30 days rate limit on name change?
Did you hack SE?
On June 9 you were still just a @sandwich

@hichris123 nope. Tried it at some point, didn't work.
Besides, we can't manually associate accounts... at least not in a way I'm aware of

I can search for my own deleted posts with eg. scifi.stackexchange.com/search?q=+deleted%3A1 , but is there a way to restrict that to search only for posts that are deleted but not by myself?
That is, deleted automatically or by a vote or a moderator.

Not via search. You'd have to develop a script to look through and find which were deleted by you.

Thanks.

6:47 PM
Oh, something I meant to mention to you @rene: do you really think it's wise to encourage people to look through old [cv-pls]s? If they haven't acquired five votes in say a week, it's probably a borderline case -- that pretty much encourages closing every single requested question.

@ShadowWizard You're surely exaggerating :D

7:17 PM
I guess the downvotes may be because no one else reads that as "navigation dismiss". — TIPS 9 secs ago
No comments on three downvotes. I felt ashamed and I commented.

he reduced @Inf's to 1 and deducted ~20k from me
only 20k :D

@TIPS That line also would look really out of place...

10k downvotes

@ShadowWizard Who?

@TIPS who what?
oh. isn't it obvious?? lol

7:18 PM
@ShadowWizard Who deducted 20k from you? I wanna learn some tricks.
@hichris123 Yeah well, it's a pick-a-reason situation.

@TIPS so ask Nick Craver to undo the fix he put in place.. ;)

@ShadowWizard Obvious LOL? I've never met this Obvious LOL dude.

@TIPS oh, he's a funny guy

Kick Nraver!
What did he fix, or break?
I remember his [status-declined] bat.

@TIPS bat? Bart?

7:21 PM
No, bat.
Bart was Shog's toy.
Hides

Was? :(

That was backshifting.

He was the most sweetly vulgar person I've known.

7:24 PM
@ShadowWizard Waiwait. We need to settle something. HOW IN THE WORLD do you win a WAG?

@TIPS he did.

@TIPS Jason must be busy, he didn't come in here after my comment.

@hichris123 I do hope he's busy in a good way, i.e. didn't become homeless in some wet corner... :/

@hichris123 I wanna see him go write some hot post on meta.

@ShadowWizard Considering he was last seen on Meta 10 minutes ago...

Q: Details of limitation on usage of Stack Exchange brandings

Amy McBrideI'm currently involved in the creation of a cross-platform media experiment with three or four other people, which will involve a section that's a good natured (I hope!) parody of the Stack Exchange network. For part of this I hope to use the Stack Exchange API (I'll ask a separate question abou...

Is no one gonna answer this?
@ShadowWizard You've been losing your touch.

7:28 PM
@TIPS :(

First, not remembering Kick's bat, and now not going to Jason's profile in a split second
Hint: GIF

Why does Jason visit Meta so often though and not come in here?

I can't remember any shaves.
Although mayhaps all the argument over Smokey and his GIF's could've worn him down.

@TIPS will try!

@ShadowWizard Try what?

7:39 PM
@TIPS GIF

No, I meant that Kick's bat was in a GIF.

@TIPS oh, not Shog's gif?

No

@hichris123 maybe he got too addicted, and now in rehab.

Another hint: The GIF is deprecated, in a way.

7:43 PM
@TIPS I need a hint for what the hint is about.

Come on @Sha! The answer is right there.

(aka what is the riddle?)

Think. Where could a random person have seen a GIF of devs before?

now you sound like @Derpy :D

@ShadowWizard Trying to make you remember Kick's bat.

7:44 PM
(just without the ponies ;))

@ShadowWizard I won't forgive you for this.

lolz
@TIPS well, switching the "a" to "u" and doubling the "t" would make sense.

Now you're riddly too.
tattu?
tuat?

@TIPS So... are we even? ;)

Oh. What the hell @Sha.

7:46 PM
So we're odd. :(

I meant Nick. Nick Craver's bat.

@TIPS baseball bat? I'm not sure Nick play baseball.

Now obviously you're trolling me.
LOOK.
NICK HAD A GIF IN THE DEVS' ABOUT PAGE WHERE HE HIT US WITH A [status-declined] WRITTEN ON A BASEBALL HAT.

but it's so fun trolling you! :D

Eh, I flagged it. We'll see what happens.

@hichris123 I deleted it. It's super irritating when people post comments like this because: 1) they serve no real purpose and b) they misunderstand the function of reputation.

It is kinda surprising as the user has been on the site for 6 years. But yeah, just because someone answers/asks questions doesn't mean that they want to deal with moderation.
