@hichris123 Our backlog was til tuesday yesterday or is that already old in your definition?
@Quill in the top level object you get form the api, there is optionally a backoff parameter returned (I hope you didn't exclude that with a filter). That backoff is in seconds and a backoff of 10 seconds is not uncommon. Your 3 seconds between calls violates that. See also: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/243773/…

Q: Should we get a blog?

wizzwizz4Blogs are very interesting things. They let us share content that doesn't fit with the question / answer format, and collect information that would otherwise be scattered around the internet. If we get a blog, we need people to put stuff in it. So, if you want the blog and want to put content on...

It seems Retrocomputing are asking that question

@rene Oh, I didn't realize that... still, by asking people to look through [cv-pls]s and moving all completed ones, any question that is requested to be closed will eventually be closed.

@hichris123 true, but if one is challenged we move them out of the way but I admit that doesn't happen often
We either are good at detecting stuff that needs closing or we are a mob after all. You pick one

I think the mob is more accurate. :/ I've seen a few questions closed recently from there that shouldn't have been.
Like stackoverflow.com/questions/29260833/… - apparently no one read the "programmatically" line up top.

I think I've got a serial downvoter who manages to fly under the radar. What would be a wise way of reporting it?

@S.L.Barth targeted at you?

@rene Yes.

Flag one of your own posts, provide evidence of the suspect voting pattern

4:27 PM
Of course, we can't see who downvotes us, for good reason. But it makes it harder to prove that someone is targeting you.

The mods can see if there is indeed a pattern and then hand-off to SE Devs
If there is no pattern they will decline your flag. Then your answers are just low quality ;)

It's questions. They always go for questions first. Downvoting answers costs them.
I guess there are two strategies in this.
The one is not to have any questions at all. The other is to have a lot of questions, so the pattern will emerge more readily.

@S.L.Barth yeah, I had only once revenge votes on answers, all the others were targetted at questions.

@rene Guess you should take it as a compliment. Someone was angry enough to actually pay points to get at you.
It probably means you're reviewing toroughly. Or outdid someone else's answer so well they decided to attack you. Something like that.

Yeah, I'm proud of that. Finally recognition

4:38 PM
It does mean you made a difference.
Sadly, the serial downvoting makes me think twice about commenting, especially when I downvote.

@ShadowWizard close tab != clicking leave room. The former just drops the web socket connection, which could be due to bad connectivity (i.e. - no way to tell). The latter - actually leaves. With the former, after a few hours of inactivity, they will be logged out of the room automatically.

@S.L.Barth In low rep users I'm more willing to comment, when they have been around for awhile I assume they know what a downvote means.

@bluefeet Apparently you're 2 minutes faster than Shog. :)

@rene Custom mod flag is "too long by 546 characters"... guess I'll have to use the "Contact us" form instead.

@S.L.Barth if you have that much evidence, yes, take that route ...

4:56 PM
@rene Report sent. To be fair, I've also once been serially UPvoted... had to report that as well.

@S.L.Barth yeah, sorry about that. I should have known better.

@rene LOL!

5:09 PM
I have a kind of strange discussion here. I assumed it wasn't that big of a deal if a question remained on the site but somehow all answers, including mine take downvotes. I thought the overall sentiment was don't delete stuff when it has value. Is that changed and did I miss the memo?

You obviously missed the memo

Do you have it in your recycle bin and do you mind fetching it for me?

You expect me to get off Chrome? What do you have in mind?

Hm... not sure what to make of it. I get the feeling there is an objective question underneath.

Jokes aside, 1) your post's score is 4, not -1. And 2) some part of the SO community is anti-moderation.

5:16 PM
@TIPS yeah, it is not only about my post, but all answers that in one way or the other defend against deletion have down votes, and the question has 4 up votes

How many?

@TIPS all about 3 down votes

All answers there have both upvotes and downvotes.

It is honestly not something I had expected

Current breakdown, @TIPS: +7/-3 for Rene, +5/-3 for Makoto, +2/-2 for Braiam .

5:18 PM
and the Question at +4 / -23

@rene OK, if you think something fishy's going on, a flag would do, but after taking part in ELL, I stopped trying to read into votes.
They maybe upvoted because he's >4k rep. Maybe because they're deletionists. Maybe because they dislike meta people.

Hmm, OK. .... I assume magic then

And the reasons that could follow.
There's always the Hanlon's razor about votes.

I'm not convinced there's anything fishy going on here. The issue is apparently controversial.

Maybe they have a cold an can't smell me (but that would be a plus for me)
@S.L.Barth that is I think true

5:20 PM
@rene Or they have hay-fever, and they're trying to vote your pollen out of the way. :-D

^

seems reasonable

Also people who haven't ventured outside SO and its meta sometimes have very strong misconceptions about how stuff works in general.
Very fundamental, very serious misconceptions

Well, I can understand the "don't delete it if it has value". And if the question is closed, that should still signal that the question is not actually a good one for the site.

Q: Why is the trade name of a drug always written in all caps even though only the first letter is capitalized in the wordmark?

bwDracoOne thing I've consistently noticed in TV commercials and other marketing materials for drugs is that the trade name for a drug (especially a prescription drug) is almost always written in all caps within text (e.g. NEXIUM) even though the wordmark and logo write the name with only the first name...

5:25 PM
In a bureaucratic world, anything that doesn't fit the site scope should be removed, at any time, at any place. But the disadvantages of "vandalizing" SO history outweigh the benefits.
@bwDraco They're shouting.

> Side effects with NEXIUM include [...]

On a serious note, I've grown up in a pharmacy and this seems not to be the case about all drugs, as far as memory aids.
@bwDraco That's because the all-caps trademark is all-caps.
If you want to mention the trademark, you shouldn't touch the capitalization.

is it possible to show the result of a Code Snippet while hiding the code behind the Show code snippet`?

5:41 PM
@Oded but it used to be few minutes, up to 10, not few hours. Was there any recent change?
I was always sure there's some kind of "heartbeat" code pinging the server (and updating the chat "last seen" timestamp) that when not sent for X minutes, triggers auto leave.

@hichris123 But really man. I miss meta.SE programming posts.
You do realize how much fun and laughs we miss because of this requirement, right?

@S.L.Barth what? wag?

@ShadowWizard Yes, although I now see that Wikipedia pluralizes the term. Somewhere else I found it without an "s" added, I think at Urban Dictionary.
WAGs (or Wags) is an acronym used to refer to wives and girlfriends of high-profile professional athletes. The term may also be used in the singular form, "WAG", to refer to a specific female partner / life partner. The term was first used by the British tabloid press to refer to the wives and girlfriends of high-profile footballers, originally the England national football team. It came into common use during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, although the term had been used occasionally before that. The acronym has since been used by the media in other countries to describe the female partners of s...

We couldn't know people like which FR first.
Actually, very few people starred FR suggestions.

Jun 22 at 17:37, by TIPS
There is no punishment for flagging, so I can go and flag everything I want in a random room and get people suspended over something picked out of the context. That's not good.

Except mods can see who flagged stuff

The fact that there's no punishment for lotsa bad flags makes some people very cheeky.
There's lotsa drama that could be avoided.

You flag a lot of stuff -> Mods see -> You get suspended
Pretty easy flowchart

Like serial voting, there is a case of smart flagger and stupid serial flagger.
The former goes unnoticed, I've seen
My problem is with someone who flags something in a room no one has/had a problem with.
