5:00 PM
I put it on the OTHER table ... ffs

Whoops :P

@Josh o:

but it still should've selected on a $('#emailTable') and instead I got a null back
that's what's confusing me

@RebeccaChernoff Confirm you have analytics access

@YiJiang has entered command mode.

5:01 PM
@TimStone Hahaha

hrmph.
confirms

@RebeccaChernoff Give me mod access. Kill Jeff Atwood. (Hmm... what else?)

@YiJiang /assign ???

My packet loss is slightly higher today. UNACCEPTABLE!

5:02 PM
@YiJiang Are you looking for a ban?
@TimStone get out those chopsticks

Say, why are 10k tools called 'moderator' tools?

@YiJiang I'd like to keep my job, kthx.

To make you feel speshul.
@Josh Hahah :P

There seems to be some confusion among new users about the difference between the two

because 10k users can moderate, to some extent, no?

5:05 PM
@drachenstern But usually when we say stuff like 'call a mod' or 'she's a mod for Webapps' we don't mean 10k users

true

Those 'mod tools' aren't really giving us anything near mod powers
Just... a bunch of stats.

close and the like no?

@Sathya is here!!!!!!!!
How goes?

Hello @Sathya ... what do you think we can do to spur more participation in dba.SE?

5:11 PM
hey @Josh, you new gravatar confused me :)
@Josh I'm good :)
@drachenstern hi! Think we need to publicize it more.

It's a flagged & starred post

@Sathya I agree there but where :\

@Josh Say, where is that famous post now?

@drachenstern I'll be starting on my twitter stream soon, got a decent Oracle following

@drachenstern I just joined, that should help =D

5:12 PM
@Josh o_0 what was that for

XD

seems like I missed a lot, @Josh

I IS A MASCOTT
@Sathya Just more of the usual insanity ;-)

@Sathya ORA would be very nice
@CodingGorilla good, post like 17 new questions ;)
hey Josh I resolved that altho

@drachenstern But I already know everything, I have nothing to ask :(

5:14 PM
@drachenstern I still firmly believe that the name scares away folks. I brought it up first on meta ( got downvoted). Some other person brought it up on Meta.DBA and got upvoted like lots :P

Is this the right format for referring? http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/9293/2161 ?

> The usage to associate tits with boobs tho
@drachenstern
I can't in good conscious upvote a post on English.SE that says "tho"

@drachenstern yes, that'll get you couple of badges, too

@Sathya I do too, that's why I am trying to suggest new names on meta.dba
@Josh oh, I missed those
also, it's how all the cool kids talk ;)
@Sathya that's what I'm aiming for ;)

btw @Josh in case it wasn't obvious, I've put in my nomination as a Diamond for SU superuser.com/election /shameless selfpromo

5:16 PM
I'm curious, what happens if that English question gains enough hotness to appear as a ad on SO?

thanks @Josh

@drachenstern I haven't visited dba today, but got a great answer yesterday

@Sathya congrats then :D
I try and check in daily, doesn't always happen

Q: Calculating percentage of a row over total sum

SathyaApologies for the bad title, I wasn't sure what would be a good title for this. This is currently (simplified view of the) data I'm working with Agent | Commission ---------|------------ Smith | 100 Neo | 200 Morpheus | 300 I need to calculate the percentage of the t...

@Sathya you get my vote!

5:17 PM
@drachenstern yeah, I spend waay too much time in SU.. though I do have the beta badge for dba :D
@Josh :D

@drachenstern Oh, I got a great question to ask!

@CodingGorilla come on with it then ;)
@Sathya same here :D

I think this will be my first question ever, on any SE site

I got a 'nice question' already on programmers, hehe.

OK lunchtime for me. Catch you boobs later. Er, um, I mean titmouses. Or would it be titmice?

5:18 PM
Hooray for subjectivity.

laters @Josh just thought I'll peek in before I go off to sleep

@Sathya glad you did. sleep well!

@Sathya night!

Okay, I seriously need sleep. Just spelt identicon as favicon ><

5:20 PM
Whoops, get to bed!

thanks, 'night @drachenstern & @Josh

I'm seriously contemplating sharing that English question on Facebook :P

@YiJiang I just did ;)

@YiJiang This must be the work of a decepticon!

5:22 PM
@drachenstern Yes

"What is the difference between 'tits' and 'boobs'?" http://english.stackexchange.com/questions/9293/2161 (cc @codinghorror)
I also tweeted it ;)
@averyj yeah blog about that, I am curious about the state of mono for big asp.net apps.. guess why? :)

btw, @drachenstern is similar to Eliza Dushku :P ( well, so says twitter anyway :P )
cheers!

lol, I wouldn't doubt it ;)
You should follow all four of those people @Sathya ;)

I think I'll stick to just 2 of them :P

5:32 PM
@CodingGorilla it really is about the indexes. Can you post any more information on the DDL or the indexes involved?
I really know more about SQLServer than I do about ORA, but in this case, it also depends on the type of table (in a SQLServer context) heap versus clustered

There are 34 indexes on the one table, the index data is actually larger than the data itself (I didnt build this bahemoth)

zomg
does Oracle have a heap versus clustered indexing strategy?
yeah, you're killing yourself on the indexes, add that to the question, it's important

Q: IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!! (elections available only to high rep users)

PollyannaI am worried that the moderators can now only be selected from those with 10.3k reputation. I understand that we must limit our options using some method, as too many choices would make this process more difficult. However: - Very high rep users are not any more likely to moderate than those i...

Brilliant title!

@drachenstern Oracle doesn't support clustered indexes I dont believe, but they do have a couple of different indexing methods
the research I've done indicates that we're using the appropriate method though
@drachenstern updated the question btw

K /me /afk atm

I need a better way to keep up with the 15 SE sites that I want to participate on... it's really hard switching back and forth between all sites
how do you guys do such?

I just opted to not follow many sites at the moment, heh.
I've actually been fairly inactive except on Meta, though I do visit the rest daily.

The supermulticollider and this room

@drachenstern what's that

The supermulticollider is that thing on the top left

ok, got distracted by Pollyanna

A: IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!! (elections available only to high rep users)

JoshThere have been a number of similar arguments on the ServerFault election page as well, notably: I think a balance of 10k and non-10k users is important in moderator circles, as it prevents grandfathering (i.e. "That's just the way it's always been done") and provides new insight. – Mark...

Poll: Who here thinks that interesting tags are yellow, who thinks they're pink?

Pink? O_o

now I'm headed to lunch

Brown?

0
Q: Why do some questions in SO now have a pink background?

ThomasMcLeodTitle say it all. This seemed to happen in the past 24 hours.

>_>

5:48 PM
@balpha Teh pinkz! Itz teh unicorns! They've come, deliverance is here!

#FFEFC6
clearly a yellow

Oh, you know what?
It actually does look pink on my laptop, WTF.
Clearly my colour profile is wonky

I don't know, color blind?

laptops tend to be set to a very cold color temperature
which makes bright colors more blue

Certainly not pink pink, but I guess I can see how you'd mistake it.

5:56 PM
I say goldish

Orange - yellow
@TimStone Grapefruit color :P

Heheh :P

coral

I've never noticed that pinkish on my laptop, and I use it regularly
I guess I know how to configure my machine for color levels amongst other preferences :\

6:00 PM
I never really noticed it before, it seems most other colours appear the same on both.

@TimStone looking at your screenshots the colors are cooler, the greens and reds are darker

Disadvantage to telecommuting #37. Crying babies are loud.

Yeah, the photo is slightly misleading too, there's a bigger difference there than in actuality.

evening

Nooning
oh crap, it just ticked over to noon

6:07 PM
lol

It's 1pm :P

My stomach demands lunch, but my work schedule demands I be done by now..
@CodingGorilla Exactly ;)

lunch is a fantastic idea actually

that's ok, I've got an array out of bounds on something that shouldn't be out of bounds :\

I just finished lunch, but I'm still hungry :(

6:09 PM
oh /facepalm ... new list new name ... the old one would be empty of course

well actually not lunch but dinner already

heh

Oy this page is getting too UI heavy :(

6:20 PM
@mootinator Sorry for being a newbie, how do you do that? :(

@CodingGorilla What @drachenstern did, only...different...somehow

hey mine didn't statusify :(
I thought it would at some point ... probably too long
status-should-go-home-and-walk-the-dogs
status-should-go-home-and-eat-a-sandwhich
status-should-stop-abusing-status

@CodingGorilla go ahead and give it a miss

Ah yes. multiple tags.

if just does not like dogs and sandwhich in the same sentence

the ole college try, as it were

6:22 PM
You just put status- in front of it?

And [] around it.

and in brackets, yes
also, hyphenated not spaced

And it has to be the only thing on the line or something.

status-needs-to-learn

going to the sandbox ...

6:24 PM
status-needs-a-vacation

apparently 50 chars after the status-
Yeah I'm gonna pass @YiJiang before he gets back on ... wonder what that says about me :\

@drachenstern We should vote for you for community moderator so you have less time to chat?

@mootinator nah, the only thing that would encourage is me losing my job :p ;) ~ Maybe not even then, I could learn to be like @TimStone and barely sleep?

Can you vote yet? I think you can only nominate?

6:34 PM
status-should-be-wallpapering

only nominations at this time

@drachenstern That's not a skill you want to have.

status-should-be-working-but-waiting-on-idiot-contractor

Additionally, I thought it was alright to walk outside without shoes on...and I was right, until I accidentally stepped in water.

6:36 PM
@TimStone true, but I could find a way to swing it to my advantage I'm sure ... somewhere

Heh :P

look at the inner ring of the CD

what about it?

the fact that the icon for iTunes that most of us see only at 32x32 or 64x64 has detail fine enough to include the inner edge stamp of a typical CD (albeit Apple and iTunes)
you gotta expand the image naturally ...

6:55 PM
status-deprecated

What is?
Oh, that's the old one isn't it? yeah, but still
that's a lot of dedication

True.
Makes the new one seem even less cool.
I think they should have incorporated an 8-track tape somehow.

@drachenstern - I might have to take back what I said about my ISP yesterday. No news at all on the problem

The new one is probably more appropriate if you consider they want to sell you iTunes, not CD's
and seriously, who uses CD's anymore? :P

I prefer the archivability of CDs but not the cost associated with transcoding them to digital files

6:59 PM
;)

Also the higher bitrates

Speaking of things nobody uses.

@ChrisF You'll have to do like everyone else and run a fiber optic cable from my house. ;)

jQuery to the rescue!

\o/

Brilliant
