I was going to say "Top tag" should be "Top non-required tag" since it's unlikely on meta to have a non-required tag as your top tag. — Mooseman 5 secs ago

I seem to recall there being a meta-question somewhere on the usefulness of "my regex no worky plz fix" kind of questions. Does anyone remember it? My google-fu is lacking.

@J.Steen you need to train more your google-fu

@Braiam Obviously. In the meantime...

@gunr2171 eh, you put the time in to research it, and cited docs... seemed useful to me :)

True, thanks.

So I want to duplicate some content in meta and figured I would come in here first.

@TravisJ you can... just remember to change all $sitename and $siteurl

The SO meta (mSO) is still terribly lacking in high quality questions. If you sort by votes it is pretty obvious. All of the long running community posts from mSO came to MSE, and some of them had a wealth of knowledge.
I am thinking of reproducing with citation some of the meta posts as wiki on mSO from MSE.
Does this seem like I should raise it as a question at mSO or MSE first?
I couldn't find a flag for "please duplicate this question" :)

Then why post it?

I post a lot of stuff.

I raised this issue on mSO.

Q: meta Stack Overflow was robbed

Travis Jtldr; Can we duplicate content verbatim with citation from Meta Stack Exchange that originated at meta Stack Overflow? Or is there another process to facilitate this? It is no secret that meta Stack Overflow (mSO) was "robbed" (migrated) of all of its questions - 60,000 of them. Over the course...

5:41 PM
@rene No, it was kinda funny...

^ ot-rec
Yes, it's self-answered... but it's a link.

That is very odd.
Funny how you can accumulate a lot of reputation but still not understand the basics of question asking (that is only their 35th question).

lol

btw, I deleted that question I asked as it seems people are really stoked to spend the next 5 years on mSO reliving the same discussions as the past 5 years.

user259867
@nicael "But questions with accepted answers with score of 0 are included in this tab" evaluates to false

@LynnCrumbling because they can

@TravisJ I have an answer but it would have cribbed heavily from Respect the community – your own, and others’. If you want to ask again, it might help to not load the question with the word "robbed". ;-)

@JonEricson - Yes, the word robbed was a bad choice :( I agree.

5:51 PM
lol

@TravisJ I totally understand that he found a fairly canonical list and wants to tell the world about it.

@JonEricson - So my issue raised would fall under "Cross posting: technically multi-posting, asking the same question verbatim on different sites without tailoring it to that site’s audience."? While I understand that the blog post is aimed at content in general, isn't this more of an edge case? For example, the XY problem post here on MSE.

@Frank Looks like they are going to take a low pass at some crap

@LynnCrumbling - Yeah, I get that aspect :) But that seems like it is more fitting for a blog than a self answer.

5:52 PM
@gunr2171 yeah, lol

@Frank THAT PICTURE WAS DOCTORED. That was originally a Plymouth Horizon behind the flatbed.. not a Porsche.

@TravisJ One of the reasons we gave SO its own meta was to increase the sense of community. While I think some of the conversations on meta would have been cut off as duplicates, most of them probably wouldn't. We see the same tired feature requests and support issues over and over again even on MSE.

@TravisJ Yep.. exactly.

@LynnCrumbling but it's more funny this way
how bout this

@Frank "or yard work" - grin

5:54 PM
:P

@Frank Ever look at any of the demotivational posters?

@TravisJ One of the costs of per-site metas is that every single one needs a copy of the "Why aren't downvoters required to comment?" and "How do I PM someone?" questions. As more sites grow, we are seeing more "Why are people so mean?" questions too.

@JonEricson - And I definitely think the new direction works for new content, especially at MSE and for the network as a whole. But I feel like it was slightly at the cost of meta Stack Overflow. I think that some of the conversations can be created, or even discussed at length, but it is hard to compete with a discussion that has lasted for 6 years - especially considering the model of good content reaching the top over time.
@JonEricson - Hm, so this also pertains to other metas in some ways as well? As far as content at MSE not being as readily available at other site specific metas.

@LynnCrumbling where?

despair.com
check out their 2015 calendar...

5:59 PM
@JonEricson - This reminds me of a request to include MSE posts in per site meta searches and question lists.

@TravisJ Absolutely. Winter Bash was frustrating because lots of sites asked more or less the same questions. I rigged up a winterbash-2014 filter to keep track.

user259867
@TravisJ I think it's easy to complete with a discussion that lasted for 6 years... an old thread with many old answers is not an attractive thing to post new answers to. I do wish that per-site metas had a tab showing MSE posts, but this is probably difficult to implement (different databases).

@TravisJ I like that idea quite a bit. If you were to post it on MSE, I'd upvote.
Maybe limited to non?

@JonEricson - Okay, I will write up something with no bias ;)
@JonEricson - Actually, I think this question was what I was thinking of meta.stackexchange.com/q/171655/178816

"What I would propose is to make faq-questions on Meta.SO available on all per-site metas in some form. They should appear in search results on that per-site meta, but maybe not directly in the regular questions list but in some separate tab." from that linked post
While it uses meta.SO, it was pre split and in many ways applies still right? I just don't want to post a duplicate :P

@TravisJ Hmmm... I'll have to check with our developers to see how doable that is. I suspect the search results would be simple and a new tab would be tricky.

Just use jQuery, that solves everything!

@JonEricson - I can see how the new tab would be undesirable, but perhaps just include the search results from MSE in only the "frequent" and "votes" sort tabs from per site metas?
(In addition to including them in search results in general)

@gunr2171 where are the stackexchange sites and what is the roadmap to have compatibility with https-everywhere. The last answer seems to be about a year ago, see meta.stackexchange.com/questions/223520/… but there hasn't been any recent updates. If there are any alpha pages or sites where the stack people want regular folks to test, can be counted.
but there doesn't seem to be a way around, is there ?

you're right, https is not supported and the devs have been very sparse about keeping us updated with the status

it seems this blog post shares quite a bit of what is/was supposed to happen, nickcraver.com/blog/2013/04/23/… . I am going to try to see if I get something useful in the comments, once I have finished reading about what they want/ed to do.
