@Dude, re your bounty, the process for feedback involves interviewing a handful of people; if that's what you were wondering. Also see Donna's past few posts on MSO.

@VLAZ It messed me up bad. It makes me kinda mad when I hear of it

7:26 AM
@JourneymanGeek :( I am not left-handed myself but I really do not like left-handed people being mistreated. Well, all people but the left-handed mistreatement also.

@JourneymanGeek yeah forcing people to change the way they are to fit into some narrow mindset is always bad. Sadly it's really hard to fight thousands years old traditions, often backed up with religion. :(
@M.A.R. 🚽_🚽

I don't even understand it, to be honest. I sort of get the religion angle. It's not great but I get it. But there was also very similar thing during the communist era around here - my grandmother was beaten over the hands with a ruler when she tried to use her left hand. It was a communist regime thing. And the communist regime was quite anti-religious.

@VLAZ Well its the general "you do what you're told, or else"

Yeah left handed isn't related to religion, but enough other things are, like trying to "cure" gay people.

In my culture, you always eat right handed, and wash your self after... uh... yeah... left handed...
But funny thing is being made to switch was mostly in school ._.

7:31 AM
@JourneymanGeek Heard that is the case for many cultures. I think the Japanese are also the same. Offering to shake with a left hand is seen as a grave insult.

@JourneymanGeek hehe well that can indeed be a problem and for that specific usage I do agree even left handed people should use the "correct" hand. But in writing, can't see logical reason to force them to use the right hand.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 There is an objective problem when writing left handed that you can smudge what you wrote. Since your hand passes over what you just put down on the paper. It's not an issue with any and all writing implements but might be for some pens and pencils.
With that said, I'm not sure it's a good enough reason to force people to write right-handed instead of just buying slightly better pens.
I think I said it before but still - I find the way left-handed people write fascinating to watch. It just seems to flow so differently.

@VLAZ interesting, never had such problem, and never heard of it.
(I'm left handed, and so are several of my family/friends)
@VLAZ better pens and better teaching, yeah.

Actually probably more of a problem with fountain pens I suspect

@VLAZ never compared my writing to others, lol. ;)

7:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yes. Also some pens that just leave too much ink on the page.

@JourneymanGeek huh, know what you mean, rarely used those. But doubt anyone will use them for day-to-day things? Remember they cost a lot.
@Luuklag ^

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 My father used to have several. He thought they were very elegant and for a while carried one with himself for when he was asked to sign anything. I can't remember exactly why he stopped (was young at the time) but I suspect it just wasn't practical enough. Also there might have been an ink accident or two but I can't remember. Just seems like a thing that is likely.

7:55 AM
@JourneymanGeek For which you can buy left handed nibs to solve that very issue. The tips are ground differently.
nibs.com/content/left-handed-writers has some (amusing to me) of the bizarre ways some lefties write.
I write in a normal way and even with a normal fountain pen and nib never smudged the ink.
@JourneymanGeek I don't use fountain pens any more though, unlike someone we both know ...

@DavidPostill uh funny that
he mainly started mentioning it after bob and I started talking about cheapie fountain pens

8:12 AM
@DavidPostill I love nice fountain pens :D
I learned to write with a nib like nr. 4 in your picture, our whole class had those. After that, I kept finding reasons to keep using a fountain pen, even after we were allowed to use ballpoints.

8:40 AM
Do we get reputation for posts getting deleted?
one of my unanswered questions got deleted by community and I got 42 rep for it lol
no, it wasnt downvoted 21 times

@Rob I'm roughly aware of how feedback is said to be gathered, and I don't think that's good enough. You could potentially consider the bounty to be "throwing away" rep, because what I really want is for the question to be reconsidered by SE. I don't intend to award it to any answer aside from a golden goose from SE detailing the adoption of a better feedback system
Raising a bounty on it is the only way I can think of drawing more attention to it, and I figured that more rep = more attention

@FourierPikachu you have a link to what was deleted?

8:57 AM
might even see the reputation tab

@FourierPikachu I guess you put a 50-rep bounty on that question

it shows a dRep of +40
ohhh
refund
but i thought bounty was not refundable under in circumstances oops
also, why 42....why not 50

-50 (bounty) +8 (1 upvote + 1 downvote)

ohh right right

Rob
@Dudecoinheringaahing Thanks for explaining the awarding criteria. Just figured people probably didn't know that with 12M users they don't even survey 12 people.

Rob
9:21 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 You write RTL so left handedness prevents smudging the ink.
Could be worse, you could have had to learn to write Boustrophedon.

@Tinkeringbell Hehe - it wasn't you I was thinking of, but someone who said "my everyday pen is a $ (almost 4 digits) fountain pen". he also has at least 3 other expensive fountain pens.

Waaah? I thought paying ~50 euro's for mine was expensive XD

Rob
10:54 AM
Kevin knows.

@DavidPostill I think my 'fancy' pen is in the sub 200 dollar range, and the pen I use most is under 50 :D

11:52 AM
My everyday pen is £1.15. I don't bother with a "special" pen. Having said that I rarely write on paper any more. We are not allowed to have paper at work for security reasons. If I'm working remotely (which I have been for 15 months now) I follow the same rules. If I'm out I'll write a quick note on my mobile. If I'm at home not working I'll write anything on my PC.
Anything else would be a waste of my hard earned money.

Oh, I got most of my FP stuff when I was last in school :D
But I don't see the need for a super fancy pen either
Though I have once gone "OOH" then "IT COSTS WHAT?"

I probably last used a FP 50 years ago ...

I don't think you're that old.... high school?

The BIC Cristal (stylised as BiC Cristal and also known as the Bic pen) is an inexpensive, disposable ballpoint pen mass-produced and sold by Société Bic of Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine, France. It was introduced in December 1950 and is the best-selling pen in the world, with the 100 billionth sold in September 2006. It has become the archetypal ballpoint pen and is considered ubiquitous, to the extent that the Museum of Modern Art has made it a permanent part of its collection. Its hexagonal form and design mimics a standard pencil and it is sold in six types of point and 18 colours around the world...
I do own a Space Pen.

SwiftUI is Apple’s newest framework for building iOS applications.  It uses the best features of the Swift language to enable writing performative, declarative code.  If you’ve ever wanted to build your own iOS applications, now is an excellent time to get started. The Codecademy Live: Build a Quiz App with SwiftUI series will be hosted…

@Rob Cool! Do you ever use it, or just own it? :D

arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/… this is waaaay too much internet drama to unpack but... that seems to be a unhealthy community :(

Rob
2:14 PM
@Tinkeringbell I used to use it a fair bit when I first got it, then we moved and it got lost for a while; by then the novelty had worn off. It does work upside down and underwater, I've not tested it in zero gravity yet. :)

@JourneymanGeek 62
so first couple of years of senior school

good enough guess... within 4 years? :D (I was thinking secondary school but people call that different things)

yeah secondary school

2:38 PM
@Rob Well, with the recent developments in commercial zero-gravity flights, maybe you still can, one day ;)

What happens if two chat accounts are linked to one parent user?

4:47 PM
@Wolgwang Usually nothing.

@Tinkeringbell How can it be fixed?

Rob
@Tinkeringbell Could always build a rocket and robotic arm, send the pen up with a sheet of paper.

5:19 PM
@Wolgwang Usually, not

@Tinkeringbell This and this
Are these accounts the same?

Q: Make account merges propagate to chat

ManishearthWhen two accounts are merged, all the posts/votes are moved over to the "master" account, and the other account ("slave"?) is deleted. The merge is propagated network-wide, so a similar thing happens on each site. But, this does not happen to the chat user. The "slave" chat user is kept, with a ...

Merged accounts do that. There's no harm, one just no longer will be in use

@Tinkeringbell Why were the RO rights not transferred?

5:53 PM
@Wolgwang I don't know.
Probably because the chat accounts weren't merged so there's nothing to transfer from sock to master

@Tinkeringbell Can the rights be transferred now?

Rob
Try the Contact link:
No wonder I received that message. Appears that they flush messages received via "contact us" to /dev/null. — devnull Jul 29 '14 at 18:25
If you search there's a few posts, that say that the merge and all its features don't propagate to chat.

6:15 PM
@VLAZ yeah, "ink accidents" are likely the cause. :)
@Rob but I also wrote lots of LTR during English classes or univercity.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 I know my father well enough to know it's possible. He once walked through a glass door which was closed. At least before my father failed to see it was closed. He...doesn't always pay the greatest attention or care.

@VLAZ lol I... know.. such people... cough

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Great that they taught you LTR.
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Too bad they didn't teach you to spell University while at univercity - is that like Universal City?
