@pppery Just FYI, general site etiquette is not to go around and specifically look for site-specific or no-longer-reproducible questions and vote or flag to close them. Generally, we only vote or flag to close if we happen to come across one; we don't go about and hunt for them.
9
A: What should be done here on Meta in case the close vote queue gets filled with questions?

Nathan TuggyThe problem arises from users who go on systematic hunts for questions that technically fit criteria to be closed, but aren't actually getting in anyone's way. For clarity, this means questions that haven't been recently bumped by organic activity don't have a tag that needs final burnination r...

@Tinkeringbell busy :/
I just spent 2 and a half hours creating helpdesk cases
I believe that comes close to my personal idea of hell

7:36 AM
@JourneymanGeek Mine also involves humid tropical climates.
With annoying demanding clients

My personal idea of hell is a crowded party in humid and hot weather
so basically the town fair last week

And you've just woken up from a slumber because it's too hot to do anything else.
Your hair is messy

10 minutes in I get a splitting headache and then can't leave. If you ever want to torture me, thats how

@Magisch I live in the tropics
and my clients are demanding
annnnd helpdesk

@JourneymanGeek I was talking to rene about leaving a few ;) Being busy is a good excuse, don't worry ;)

7:44 AM
@Aibobot I do not, I'm not client facing, but I have a bit of helpdesk going on
which is fine cause my coworkers are OK people

@Magisch we're basically everything lol
I don't mind helpdesk on its own sake but we're kinda overloaded

@Aibobot Run helpdesks for helpdesks

actually....
in a sense....

@M.A.R. so a level 2 support helpdesk then

@Magisch helpdesks all the way down?

@Tinkeringbell If the spam is deleted on 2' 1" I'm perfectly OK with deleting it
Not just Chimneying it

@M.A.R. Chimneying works better though: Leaves only 1 message. Deleting would still leave a lot of [removed] :P
I don't really feel like checking every post I move to see whether it's deleted though ;)

Hmm, yeah, maybe it's safer to keep the newest messages around in case one spam post isn't deleted
Self-jinx

@M.A.R. Meh, you either clean up or not :P

9:52 AM
@Tinkeringbell I think a while ago I saw a mod doing some trick that left just one "removed"
Can you remove the removed?
More work, but

@M.A.R. Move them to a room, then remove the 'moved' message?

If I were a mod I'd definitely do it that way. Feels very satisfying
@Tinkeringbell No, they were like, 5 mod-removed messages, and they did something so they ended up as just one "removed"

Just tried... there isn't much satisfaction ;)
@M.A.R. Ah.
Can do... lot of work.

@MetaAndrewT. I posted the question about the community bulletin after seeing this feature request on MathOverflow Meta: Can we get rid of the “featured on meta” main meta links?
If you think that it might be a good idea, maybe you might post your suggest about changing the order of items in the community bulletin in that thread...?
Personally I do not have anything about network-wide items in the Community Bulletin - although probably some people do. (So far that feature request got only a few upvotes. I do not know whether there were some discussion on other per-site-metas related to appearance of posts from Meta Stack Exchange in the community bulletin.)

11:27 AM
@Tinkeringbell: I can also bug you here about it, more likely someone else might join on it, too ^^ So now seeing that meta post about the change just having been edited like one year after it changes were supposed to be in effect... How it came that it never was in effect? I mean there was an official statement saying it is in effect from march on. Or is it simply cause ToS haven't been changed and the ToS still outweight the meta announcement?

@Zaibis Pffft... hard question! The edit was made to emphasize this, so probably somewhere there's an answer or comment stating that this never went live to begin with ;)

this never went live to begin with. Period.
Wait, what are we talking about?
@Martin I think a similar discussion has been on meta.SO around the time they removed hot meta posts there.

@Tinkeringbell Eh, isn't the first statement in bold statement enough?
THIS HAS BEEN DELAYED INDEFINITELY
I read that in Darth Vader's voice.

@M.A.R. I think Zaibis is just trying to understand history, and why it was never implemented March 1st, '16 ;)

11:32 AM
@Tinkeringbell yeah, I would assume the same. But as long I can't find it, I can't proof it to my coworker wanting me to assume code on SO being MIT

@Zaibis Tell him I said code on SO isn't MIT :P

@Tinkeringbell No actually since I am working for compliance, its an official work assignment I am following right now '^.^

@M.A.R. Pray it does not get delayed further...

Hanging out in this chat as part of my work... any of you could imagine that? :P

@Zaibis I think if you link to that post, you'd be safe :) Or is he making trouble about that?

11:34 AM
@Tinkeringbell understand . . . history? That's kinda the wrong way to do it.

@Zaibis Actually @Catija does that ;p

@Tinkeringbell He sent me that link to begin with '^.^ I now need to find any evidence that showed it NOT being MIT in the timeframe between March '16 and the edit on january 8. xD
@Aibobot fair enough :D

@Zaibis That is horrible. My condolences.

@Zaibis uhm

and never actually implimented...

I sometimes go back and read that post

@Aibobot Depends on their intends :) I mean in my office (compliance) we are more concerned about understanding the rules the intended way than in our favored way. But yeah, now you said it, I see that it never was the official statement as which I took it at first, and hence it doesn't really matter.

11:38 AM
@Zaibis Also: meta.stackexchange.com/revisions/272956/13, at the bottom. At that time, they already decided to delay the change past March 1, 2016.

@Tinkeringbell uff, why it just got removed again. What a confusing time that mus have been at that point

@Zaibis It wasn't really removed, this revision puts it in it's current position (at the top, instead of bottom of the post). The edit from '18 put it in a blockquote ;)

The edit from '19 added ribbons

Also in the revision review... its so confusing to see somethign being replaced with the same words crossed out, is confusing as the removed parts are vissibly crossed out anyways, made it appear to me like there was nothing changed at all xD

Yeah, sometimes revisions can be a bit messy.

11:42 AM
I find it annoying that a /revisions link doesn't highlight anything about what's changed
You always have to go back to the edit timeline to make sense of anything

I am leaving now, thanks for your help on that matter, it brought me forward. :) by the way, does the chat have Attribution required, too? Or can I claim I figured all this my self? :P

All my jokes are copyrighted. That's why they suck.

@M.A.R. I did not read all details, but it seems to me from those discussions that CB on SO is created entirely differently than on the other sites: [We’re removing “Hot Meta Posts” from Stack Overflow's sidebar for now; moderators now fully control [featured]](meta.stackoverflow.com/q/387546) and Creating a system for featuring posts. Tell the mods what you want.

I'm gonna buy that because it's French.

@Zaibis You can say whatever you want ;) Just remember that if they find out you didn't figure it out yourself, you might get in trouble! :P Good luck!

11:45 AM
Or Spanish. Same diff.

@Martin Basically, their CB no longer shows 'hot on meta' posts. So they have to use 'featured' on their meta to show posts. It still shows networkwide featured stuff too

@Martin Well only recently. And there was another discussion that said "now that we don't have enough space for stuff in the sidebar, meta.SE announcement are cluttering things"
That was what I was hinting at

Aye, it's that one. Probably highlights the post's fate on meta.MO as well

You mean the fate of getting almost no attention?

11:54 AM
. . . something like that. If you want it done, you gotta do it yourself and that sorta thing
So I guess someone should write a code for replacing that entire section with meta.MO posts

But it works ;)

@Tinkeringbell in a fashion

12:15 PM
At least your code works ;)
Mine is being stubborn.

I have a horrible daisy chain of validations going on, going so far as having a function that validates a generated dataset by calling no less then 19 different sub validation functions
so every created electronic delivery note does a hundred or so database queries, give or take

Could be worse ;)
(Gotta run, I have a coffee date ;) )

@Tinkeringbell Well its not like I had any intends to missinform my employer if they at all would ask. Its just that I was making a pun reffering to the attribuiton required ^^

Was there a change to mod red-flags? In other words, if a mod red-flags a post, does it show they deleted it instead of Community?

@Machavity I don't think so?

Not as far as I know either

I've just seen some odd deletions of late. Wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a Meta somewhere

1:33 PM
@Machavity Do you have a link here or screenshot if it's elsewhere? :)

@Tinkeringbell 10k SO link. Couldn't tell if the mod sustained the spam flag there or was the sole spam flag. Maybe the mods just started deleting rather than red-flagging themselves

@Machavity Don't have the rep to see that one... but we can indeed delete, which marks the red flag helpful and spam masks the post, yet shows our own name on the 'deleted by'. I do believe it might carry some consequences if we delete instead of flag, with regards to rep penalties and IP blocks (but I don't know for sure).

That would make more sense. Might be a convenience thing for mods. Delete and red flags are marked helpful.
20k deletes do roughly the same thing (although I don't know if it applies the 100 penalty)

2:05 PM
@Tinkeringbell Maybe this "we" is rather an "I"? '^.^ As I am usually the source of these misunderstandings in regards of humor ^^ Anyways I am calling it a day, have a nice one y'all

@Zaibis You have a nice day too, and don't worry too much about the humour ;)

Foremost let's spell it as humor ....

I spell it whatever way I feel like spelling it! :P

That is going to cause havoc among the English language purists among us ...

@rene Today I have a British accent.

2:11 PM
@Tinkeringbell mod delete does not carry the -100 and spam ip block iirc
while mod spam flag does carry it
might be wrong though

hey @Zaibis this one might help! :)

So.. funny work thing...
Our hardware/system vendor sent out a powerpoint slide

Just one? Or a whole presentation?

basically went "This is a BSOD on windows 7 and 10. These are Blue screens of Non Death. This is a windows loading screen This is a windows update screen. For a BSOD, try rebooting. If its the other sort of blue screen, please don't contact helpdesk"
Well 7 slides
sadly no one was cheeky and called them blue screens of undeath, only non death

Ah well.. the fact that such slides need distributing says enough ;)

Well, the hardware vendor "borrowed" me cause there was an issue with our app...
I turned up, worked perfectly...
next shift guy went "Oh, he has the aura... stuff just works sometimes"
._.

@JourneymanGeek Ah, I know that aura! Mom has it too.

2:40 PM
@Tinkeringbell I figure its just working with computers a while and knowing the tricks

@JourneymanGeek Nah, my mom doesn't work with computers or does anything technical... but sometimes just saying 'mom the laundry machine is acting... oh nevermind!' :P

@Feeds They didn't teach them to cherry-pick and blame? What an oversight.

@Tinkeringbell or any specific machine ;p

@404 blame? Software developing is about finding causes, not blame ;)

404
Sure. And the root cause must be identified by name in the outage report.

2:46 PM
@404 Switch jobs. That's mean.
Or you could just go root cause = Unhandled Exception :P

That wasn't my job description, I remembered a ProgSE classic.

Q: My boss decided to add a "person to blame" field to every bug report. How can I convince him that it's a bad idea?

MK_DevIn one of the latest "WTF" moves, my boss decided that adding a "Person To Blame" field to our bug tracking template will increase accountability (although we already have a way of tying bugs to features/stories). My arguments that this will decrease morale, increase finger-pointing and would not...

@404 Oh wow... I didn't even know how to print hello world when that was written!

dosen't git have a blame function?

@JourneymanGeek yes... and it has been helpful for me in the past (when that bad coworker blamed me for stuff I hadn't even touched)... but it's still kinda mean if you're on a team to 'blame'. Sure, use it to find out the cause of a breakage and who's the best fit to fix it... but not to point fingers!

I was going to propose that the feed of dev.to/stackoverflow should be added to this room, considering it's becoming a sort of an official blog of SO. (A second one, without all the marketing stuff that SO.blog carries).

pls no

404
But... is there any RSS feed at all? Apparently not.

6:25 PM
@James: Not at all. Meta is for discussion of site policies revolving around a question, not the question's subject matter (i.e. discussing if the question is on-topic, not discussing the question's programming language or the problem being solved). Chat doesn't always have a specific question as a topic. This is one more place, if you will, to have offbeat freeform discussion that may or may not concern specific Q&As. — BoltClock ♦ 2 days ago

I was talking about the official SO account on dev.to, which publishes blog-like posts by employees, not offbeat discussions.
But speaking of those, is there a way to find shared SO posts on dev? There is a hashtag #stackoverflow but it's not obvious if the share button is adding it to shared items.

I failed a review audit and I don't understand why. How should I seek clarification?

a link to it here would allow those here to critique it, or you can bring it to an appropriate meta crowd

The message said the answer was of "very poor quality"; is it? The answer was simply pointing at a project that might help the OP, and explaining its limitations.
It's also clearly not spam.

the answer... wouldn't in any way be useful without the link

9:40 PM
That's true, but if the question is "how do I do X", isn't a legitimate answer "use system Y", with a link to Y?

The author also failed to note that he was the author of the project

Right, I noticed that later, and should have noticed it during review.

eh, not if system y is a 3rd party project that isn't widely used
this specific case is a bad example of that though, due to it clearly just being an attempt to drive traffic to his project

Hmm. So what should Kevin have done then? He built something that might be useful to this OP. I any form of self-promotion simply disallowed?
*Is

"You could take a look at my project"
would be a step in the right direction
Explaining how his project accomplished it would have helped too, as people could then use those steps separately from the project

9:47 PM
I certainly agree those things would improve the answer. So what I should have done is write a comment saying those things?

I think it's a strange audit
i would have skipped that review entirely
Thing is, all it would have taken for you to realize this was an audit was to click the link to get more information
then you would have known it was an audit and what the "expected" outcome of the audit would be

I already skipped several. I don't really want to be doing this at all! SO just suddenly told me to review stuff so I'm trying to.
You mean the link to the answer? I did that.
I didn't know audits were a thing.

ah
well, if it's in review, it's not deleted
unless it's an audit

I figured something was up when the answer wasn't visible in the main question, but the system was saying it thought the answer was spam. So, since IMO it wasn't spam, I thought I had to accept it to make it visible.

oh, right, you can't see deleted posts

9:54 PM
Anyway, if I don't want to just skip, would commenting be a course of action that would lead to passing the audit?

yeah, i dunno what to suggest really. The audit is there to stop people from "robo reviewing", submitting reviews without paying attention. Everyone that does reviews gets caught off guard occationally
or eventually
In this case the only thing that would have passed the audit is deletion

I don't see that option. Is that what flagging would do?

I think so, i don't see the same interface as you
whatever would cause "recommend deletion"

My options are upvote, downvote, share, edit, flag, or comment.
I've never flagged anything so I don't know if I have options after that.

if you click it, it should give you a list of options
it's likely in there

9:57 PM
Ok. I'm afraid to click it now!

you're talking abotu the buttons across the top, right?
that include skip and looks ok

No I forgot about those. Top right I have "No Action Needed", "I'm done" (which is grayed out), and "Skip".
And there is "link" below some statistics like "viewed".

weird.. yeah i dunno which option would be correct in your case then
I get a delete button

To be clear, if I had only commented, you think I would also have failed the audit?

I want to say yes, but i'm not confident in that answer.
You should have a "More" button on the top left
with an explanation of what each button should be used for

10:02 PM
Because at this point I don't really feel confident enough in my assessments to do anything besides comment. And if that alone will fail audits, then I'm inclined to just not even try.
Yes, I do have the "more" link, and I've re-read that material several times. I wish there was a link to something more detailed.

Here's the key i think:
> You can also leave a comment on the answer, but you will still need to choose one of the above actions to clear the post from the review queue.

What's that a quote from? I don't see that text.

When i click on "More" it's below the 4 button descriptions
look at a fresh review rather than the failed audit

I have, "Be sure to leave a comment if you can help the user out, upvote the question if you can't find any problems with it, or click Skip if you are not sure and want to go to the next item."
I'm looking at a fresh review.
Maybe the system distrusts me and nothing I alone do can clear the queue?

weird. I don't get that anywhere on the page, and that's.. kinda contradictory to what would happen in an audit situation
You're looking at the low quality posts queue right?

10:07 PM
I don't know! I click the review button and have several choices, the one I've been using is "First Posts" since it's the first option.

Ok that makes more sense
I see what you see
