@AdamLear I think it may be due to remaining of email verification. I pointed out that user about verifying email from profile and now his fellowship is being considered :)
So, one can follow and ask example question without verifying mail but his membership will not be considered without verification, right?

alas. I have only one closevote to give.

@Mgetz I seem to remember that for a short period the alternate "firepony" icon was actually built in in the official Firefox download package.

@Derpy this one?

don't really remind which one was supposed to be the "official" one, but I do remember some discussion on the Mozilla forums about choosing an official one.
could also be that I am miss-remembering some details.

How to pick a different identicon? Generate it using any generator, then upload the generated identicon as profile picture. As easy as eating pie!

Yup. But they won't do it.

apparently it's very easy to find the generator... e.g. jdenticon.com

I found one online and uploaded it for a brief period.

oh never mind, just read OP's comment... okay, nothing can help except a downvote...

@Catija fun fact, they aren't using a font. If they were that would be an XSS exploit andy would have to fix

Adam has cats.

I have multiple SE rejection emails. They've gotten more template-y in the last couple years though.

:(

I've honestly never applied to SE, I assumed they had a high enough applicant volume that I'd immediately get filtered out

I've only tried once.

@Andy we have actual HR staff now

5:20 PM
@Shog9 You guys are growing so fast. sniff

Sexual harassment panda?

that was... the old "HR" staff

Is recruitment the same as HR?

I donno. Probably not.
we don't actually call HR HR either

The "people team"?

Yep. "People Operations"
I'm not 100% on how that breaks down into, like, internal support vs. external

People Operations sounds like they run the sock-puppets ...

Well, spying a bit, probably helps them a bit. Sounds legit and reasonable, no?

I'm pretty sure the Joe Friend isn't a real person.
It's a community-pandering propaganda bot.
:P

7:32 PM
@canon What makes you think that of @JoeFriend?

@canon I'm offended. I'm very real.

it would make a lot of sense to create a communal sock puppet for SE

"Joe Friend" does sort of sound like "your friend" depending on how you say it... so...

to serve as a community meat shield for the company
which could be replaced as necessary

@Catija Your Friend, Joe, is here

Ha, I just finished an presentation telling all the product managers that they and their product teams need to engage with the community just like TeamDAG is.

I gotta say... has anyone ever seen Community and Joe in the same room together? :thinking_emoji:

So, more bots coming, I guess.

:not_sure_if_joking_meme_emoji:

@Community will be here soon, and it will be the case

@canon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think that'd be really great if they could make the time. I think one of the complaints I've heard the most is that we keep asking for things (Feature requests) and they go "ignored" for years... which doesn't mean that y'all aren't actually seeing them... just that there's not time to implement them.

@Catija That's kind of why the team should be making greater use of

And I know responding to them, even, takes a lot of effort, too... so I do really understand that end of things. :)

7:36 PM
@JoeFriend lol

What do I need to offer as proof of my existence?

Have you ever been on Doc Maynard's underground tour in Oldtown, @JoeFriend ?

Can't wait to meet Jane Comfort from team UIUX

@Catija Yep. Twice I think. It's been a long time.

Proof enough for me. :P

7:37 PM
My first job in tech was in Pioneer Square.

You've been in Seattle for a while, then?

Aldus Corp. Makers of PageMaker (I'm dating myself). Acquired by Adobe the day I left the company. #coincidence

@JoeFriend Ever skied at Whistler?

@Catija Since I was five.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Nope, but I've been there during the summer. Beautiful. I stopped skiing in college and always was a local Seattle skier.

Oh, practically a native, then! That's more than I can claim. Great city, though... I can imagine why you'd stick around.

7:39 PM
"Memories... you gave them human memories."

@canon You're impossible to please. ;)

Maybe the next member of team DAG to pilot your account will do better! :P
I kid, I kid. :P

@JoeFriend Yeah, I visited Vancouver and Whistler during the summer once.
@Catija Ever made a trip to SoCal?

Is that proof?

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I lived in LA for about six months when I was 7, I think... and my grandfather used to live there... And I was there for a weekend a year ago. But that's it.
We took the train from San Jose to LA. That was fun.

7:43 PM
@JoeFriend Dunno. I've heard AI can create pictures now...

@Andy Damn. I'm screwed.

@Catija Could have gone down a little further to San Diego

@JoeFriend let me see if there's location data embedded in that... then I'll requisition a drone flyover.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog We took a day trip to the zoo when I was a kid.

@Catija Wait a second, I remember you telling me

7:45 PM
@canon There is most def location data there and it will lead you directly to my home so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

San Diego Zoo is the place where you find peacocks roaming around

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I don't have to go to San Diego for that... there's a park here in Austin that has them.

@JoeFriend don't mind the quad copter... or the flashes.

Near Mount Bonnell.

7:47 PM
@canon Roger that.

Gotta go folks. Thanks for pulling me into chat to debate my existence as a human being. Have a great weekend.

Is this generic enough voting stuff that you could answer such a question, @Shog9
Sometimes it might be worth starting with a question to find out if it is a problem... something like "How often does someone who answers a question downvote the other answers to that question?" By comparing whether those competing answerer's downvotes are the only downvote the answer receives, you might be able to guess at whether it was a valid or invalid vote... for example, if someone downvotes an answer that gets five upvotes and no other downvotes, I'd wonder... but if an answer gets five downvotes and no upvotes, that's pretty clearly not tactical. — Catija 1 min ago

...what's the question?

> How often does someone who answers a question downvote the other answers to that question?

oh
well... Yes, that's answerable, but I'm not sure what questions the answer to that question answers
this has been discussed a LOT, btw

Q: The answer to tactical downvoting problem?

Moayad MardiniAs we know, the tactical downvoting (I'm talking especially about SO, as I don't know about other sites) is more and more becoming a serious problem, as I see, the community can't stop this behavior without some sacrificing. As a suggestion, I think it makes sense to prevent an answerer from dow...

9:58 PM
Someone on MSO trying to solve tactical downvoting by requiring comments. But if the occurrence of tactical downvoting is very low, then solving it seems unnecessary.

@Catija it's more complicated than that

It usually is.
Hence, the suggestion to request data or ask for solutions rather than proposing one.

I mean specifically that it's more complicated because sometimes deleting all of the competing answers is exactly the right thing to do
Like... It's not tactical if they're actually wrong.

You're missing the question. If someone has answered the question and knows the other answers are wrong... that's not tactical downvoting... but the system would have no way of knowing that. The system doesn't know whether an answer is correct or not. Forcing people to explain their downvotes in any situation is not really something we want to do. — Catija 37 mins ago

so it's not just enough to say "this is tactical because it's the only downvote"; you'd have to look for answers that were consistently getting upvotes, before and after the downvote.
Which... Is also going to eliminate a lot of cases that probably were tactical
Arguably if the system has enough signal to identify tactical voting, it's also a scenario in which the tactical voting doesn't matter

10:11 PM
Eliminating some of the false positives (one downvote among several) would still probably be better than looking at data that doesn't exclude it... the more limiters you put on it the better the data gets... since we have no way of actually seeing the intent, you can still try to get something resembling good data?
But I see what you're saying... 5 up and 1 down is not super likely on a site like SO where so many posts get so few votes at all... you're more likely to see one or two than five.

10:25 PM
paired with the OPs and/or answers that just upvote everything

10:45 PM
@Catija actually what I'm saying is "I'm lazy and already knee-deep in analyzing something with dubious chances of obtaining accurate results, so don't feel motivated to take on an even more dubious request"... But I like your interpretation too.

Well, since there is no question to answer, that's sort of irrelevant?

WOOO! 14 minutes to happy hour!

This is going to dissapoint, but technically Community is just a constant of -1 in a file somewhere... — Nick Craver ♦ Apr 8 '12 at 10:48

user392480
How about a user who looks similar to the Community user like me?

11:49 PM
That user's ID and the fact that it's blue prove that it's actually Community, though... so I figure one of the devs was having a bit of Friday fun.

user392480
hahahaha. Is it okay if I can "impersonate" the community user by having its logo. The only thing is that it has no diamond
