[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Offensive answer detected: Why do anime girls have huge chests? by poophead64 on anime.SE

12:29 AM
Morning all

12:52 AM
I just dropped my laptop 8 feet off a ladder. It hit the ladder then landed on the hardwood floor splayed open keys and monitor down. And not a scratch on it. Proving once again that thinkpads are the shit.
I have no idea how it's not completely trashed.
It did reboot though, lol.
The DVD drive still works. Fascinating.

user202362
every of my phones gets dropped from chest high at least 3 times in their life time

user202362
and not intentionally

Oh yeah me too. I only buy ruggedized phones. I beat the crap out of them.
The Kyocera phones have the sapphire glass, it's pretty gnarly stuff. Like you can rub it around in gravel and it won't leave a mark.

user202362
I get plenty of protection for my phone, so they can land comfortably from any angle

well, let's see... 4 out of the last 6 flags here were on your posts. One of the two remaining was on SmokeDetector replying to your posts. That's already as many flags as were raised here in the past two months combined.
So... That's either really talented, or really careless.

@Shog9 I went semi lazy. Fried in olive oil w/ lemon zest, chopped garlic, salt and pepper.
Came out not bad.
Should've batter fried it lol.
On the bright side I totally know how to clean my cheese grater now.

@JasonC that sounds... Almost as good as butter.

Yeah it wasn't even worth the 5 seconds of chopping garlic.
Not entirely sure why I bought these.

fresh or frozen?

Fresh

probably looked good in the case then

They were well-presented.
I fried up some spinach in salt and butter too, though, which magically makes everything you serve it with 10x better.

Yeah I was just thinking that
Bacon crumbles + spinach + maple + black pepper = baller, btw
Also works with brussel sprouts

I just ate some microwaveable Indian chicken stuff wrapped in a tortilla with that cold fish stuff that you put on bagels inside too.

Lox is a fillet of brined salmon. Traditionally, lox is served on a bagel with cream cheese, and is usually garnished with tomato, sliced red onion, and sometimes capers. == Etymology == The American English word lox is derived from the Yiddish word for salmon, לאַקס laks (cf. German Lachs), which ultimately derives from the Indo-European word for salmon, *laks-. The word lox has cognates in numerous Indo-European languages. For example, cured salmon in Scotland and Scandinavian countries is known by different versions of the name Gravlax or gravad laks. (Lax or Laks means salmon in the S...

I wouldn't mind a bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese... but there are no bagel shops within walking distance left...

@JeremyBanks Yes the meal I just cooked was strategically planned to make sure I didn't have to wash any of the pile of dirty dishes in my sink.
My dirty dish pile does not support subtraction.
I think it's a firmware bug.
/me overwrites entire en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lox article with "That cold fish stuff that you put on a bagel."
I really want to write a botnet that every once in a while randomly offsets a date in a wikipedia article by one day.

@JasonC I was going to lecture you about vandalism but then remembered... are you a significant Wikipedia contributor, or am I mixing you up with someone else?

Are those my only two options?

Anonymous
Yes. If neither are applicable, you'll have a two-week grace period to fix that.

Heh
I'm not a regularly significant wikipedia contributor but I do have my moments, good and evil.

Anonymous
I expect that would trigger a bot to automatically revert it...

The trick is slow, and distributed.
For the dates, that is.
Yes overwriting a full article should trigger a quick revert.

My proudest evil moment was making up toys in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickelodeon_Toys, and then they survived in the article for the better part of a year.

The one benefit of the taking a stand post: now "taking a stand" is a meta meme.

@bjb568 whhhyyyyyyy.

user315433
Another benefit is: remembering it avoids getting sucked into a time-draining activity like this one.

3:37 AM
@Shog9 I can't make any sense at all of that site.
All I see is a bunch of weird portmanteaus, and somebody vomited <a>'s all over the page that I think I'm supposed to click or something.
Hey there's results, I like results.
Aw, "no results".
Oooo I can discover things.
I can't decide if I want to discover things, contribute, contribute some more, get results, do tasks, sign in, download JSON, or browse statuses, but it doesn't matter because the page has not one, but two footers, almost as large as the page itself. This is the most visually confusing web site I have ever laid eyes on.
More like crowdcrafting SUCKfabric.
Give me the answers for the tasks. I demand answers.

i herd u leik footah
heah iz footah un uh footah

@bjb568 THESE ARE THE TASKS OF THE PROJECTS. THESE ARE THE ANSWERS FOR THE TASKS. THESE ARE THE STATUSES. I AM AN ENT.

4:01 AM
@JasonC So, this was apparently built for doing... Data analysis or some such; training classifiers and stuff. The idea being, you get a TON of people completing every "task", where that's like "is there a cat in this picture" or something.
Most of that isn't needed here

Oh wait a minute... this seems familiar. I feel like I read an article recently about this or something like it, but I can't remember the context. Is this that thing where you get paid to do small analysis tasks, and companies can pay to put their thing on there?

@JasonC no, that sounds more like Mechanical Turk

Oh that's totally what I was thinking of.

which is pretty useful, if you just need a hundred people looking at something

So it looks like we're failing to bind to the deletion websocket for some reason - probably a change on SE's side, or something just being broken. Pretty sure it isn't our fault, there haven't been any touches to that code in a long time. Need to dig in to it, but it's late here and I'm tired. Y'all might seem more spam than usual tonight, but it should be fixed tomorrow in some capacity.

@ShadowWizard normally we continue watching each post until it gets deleted, and we post a report here in the Tavern if it hasn't been deleted in <5 mins. However, something seems to have stuffed up with deletionwatcher, meaning that all reports are being posted in here immediately. We don't have much of an idea what's happening since the appropriate code hasn't been touched in a couple of years, but we're looking at it

@angussidney maybe something changed on SE side? How exactly you watch for deletion?
(i.e. is this via API?)

@ShadowWizard I have a slight hunch that something happened as a side effect of some of this HTTPS stuff that they're announcing
@ShadowWizard I can't remember whether we use the API or whether we open a websocket directly to the question (is that even possible?)

@angussidney oh... might be. so maybe worth asking a dev here?
@angussidney there is the "live refresh" thing for posts which detects real time the deletion, but not sure we can tap into it.

9:23 AM
@ShadowWizard maybe we could do that, but for the moment I'm going to leave it untill @Undo wakes up again, we might try to fix it ourselves before we go annoy an employee :P

@AndrewT. It's a Google Apps Script serving RSS to chat. The script includes 2-minute caching to avoid getting throttled by Twitter. On top of that, chat polls RSS feeds at some interval. No pushing anywhere.

2:45 PM
@NormalHuman there's Twitter's Streaming API, if someone can get it to work...

user315433
I think the chat polling is the main limiting factor here, more than caching on the script's side. In any case, I've been successfully avoiding Twitter API for a few years, and am inclined to continue doing that...

Thanks for the reply. I have just tried, it did not work. And the feature request I linked above is not marked status-completed.

user315433
Okay, so the user is wrong.

user315433
And I don't think that SE will ever complete that feature request. Having a page element disappear from the page with no explanation is more problematic that a link that doesn't edit.

user315433
The "edit" link still serves a purpose: it tells us that the edit window was 5 minutes, and it passed. If it simply disappeared, users would not know how long the interval is, or why the link disappeared at all. We'd get more meta questions about it.
