I am lenient, if a user spend 10 minutes in an quality answer with minor spam that only 20 people read and the user doesn't reuse the content anywhere else, I will just leave the answer be. If you like, just edit out the spam part or downvote it and watch out whether there is any re-use of any similar content.
First link is spam (blog post promotes uninstaller utilities) in a highly concerted effort to deceive reviewers. See also superuser.com/questions/1070617/adware-plague-in-the-apartment/…bwDraco 48 secs ago

When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

if (1+1 == 2)

// some code
}
notice the condition: it is the real one I am using, just to understand if I have found a bug in VS.
Execute the code. It works.
Put a break point on the IF, then drag the execution point on the first line of the inner code.
it breaks with a null reference exception and a STRING.EMPTY stacktrace.
Yep. You read it right... Empty Stacktrace.

@Derpy this is c#, right? Because in JavaScript that is never true ...
@rene I am trying to find out a pattern. It is specific to the inner code the method is using, but nothing in that code should be ever able to raise a Null Ref. Exception
I can't repro ...
In VS2013
@rene Yes, C#. I should add that the code IS using some lambda query, so I though of some closure related problem, but I don't see any... so for now I am blamming VS
and since this solution (same one from yesterday @DroidDev) is using VS 2008...
this seems very probable.
10:24
Why on earth are you using VS2008?
@rene because this solution is hell on earth.
No fancy ReSharper stuff running?
@rene the solution is using third party libraries that where never updated (because the client never renewed their licensing) since about.... 2006?
and they don't integrate on newer VS versions.

@Telkitty careful with the wording there. It is not MY code. It is the code I have to live with, but far away from begin mine -_-
Once you touched it, it is your code....
@rene And that's is why I am wearing gloves.
And this is not a joke either.
:p
10:40
@Derpy now you have reminded me of a junior of mine
@DroidDev actually, the whole idea in the (1+1 == 2) was to still have a condition but exclude any possibility that evaluating it should have side effect on the code inside the if.
That's because in the past I found an == operator overload that also had side effects one the compared members. Same solution.
but why would you need a condition at all?
@DroidDev because the whole point was to understand why putting the breakpoint on the if and then dragging the execution line on the first line of the if inner code caused an exception in that code.
Basically - skipping the execution of an always true if in debug mode changed the behavior of the code inside the if
That is why now I am just leaving it as is for the time begin.
I think it is some VS 2008 bug
I will try to replicate the code on a separate class inside a vs2013 solution and see if it is the same
The fact that the solution still uses framework 3.5 may be part of the problem too.
10:53
so, you ported half to new things (VS 2013) and are yet to decide about other half (framework)
did client agree on that?
@DroidDev nonono. All of the solution is still on VS 2008, nothing changed. I meant that I will probably try to see if I manage to replicate the same behavior by coping part of the code to a separate vs2013 poc project.
oh,ok, anyway, all the best!

@PhMgBr Well, there's audits, but the Suggested Edit audits are far too easy.
...even so, some reviewers manage to trip even those.... I really wonder how such people got 2K in the first place!
@S.L.Barth Audits are for the minimum paying attention.
There should be something for the nicer guy who pays extra attention.
Like how there's a badge for answering and editing.
Any ideas how that would work? Reviewing by it's nature is a rather binary thing - approve or reject.
Given the disastrous results that incentivizing review had, I'm very, very wary of adding more badges!
Review queues: too much carrot, not enough stick.
@S.L.Barth Fun fact: just showing a number that increases is incentive enough to encourage people to do things we wish they didn't.
19:44
@S.L.Barth No, no more badges.
Already too much badges.
@JonEricson I've noticed... on a daily basis....
Says a guy who used to think we don't have enough badges.
I think we need an extra penalty for reviewers who get suspended manually multiple times.
Not for automated suspension, only for cases where misbehavior is confirmed manually.
...and where the reviewer didn't learn.
And in case anyone's wondering - yes, I'm seriously thinking about a rep penalty for these people.
20:02
Ok, here's a topic we could discuss on the Town Hall: how to get the Help & Improvement queue working properly.
@S.L.Barth that only exist on SO ....
I'm not saying it is not a good topic ...
I could propose it for an SO specific Town Hall.
user315433
What about the external two things: opportunities and threats? What's the biggest threat for Stack Exchange?
user315433
Quora becoming a household verb? (Just quora it?)
@Meta Ironically, the biggest threat to SE is it's own success. Our quality control doesn't scale, at least on SO.
And what happens now on SO, will eventually happen to other sites as they grow.
user315433
20:07
I don't expect any SE site to ever become as large as SO is now.
I certainly believe it is possible, but the problems will manifest themselves long before that happens.
user315433
Math is by far the largest among the rest (measuring the Q/A volume), and it hit a wall already.
user315433
user315433
Two years of Q (blue) and A (green) counts. Answering is on decline.
user315433
And that's just in terms of quantity, in terms of quality the drop would be bigger if it could be quantified.
20:12
...and that brings me to my topic suggestion: how can we maintain quality as we grow increasingly popular?
user315433
We can't. Decay and death are natural and inevitable processes.
2
@S.L.Barth I don't think there's a need to maintain things.
Decay means increasing entropy, and more entropy means more information :-)
I think as much quality as is needed to make the sites feel visibly different from competing forums, so that an expert feels better here, is enough.
It's not only about keeping the smart people around. It's even more about Getting The Right Answer.
20:16
