@Ferrybig Thanks, I partially considered that. Due to my schedule I know I will basically always be online during the critical waves on AU (usually from 5 AM UTC+1 onwards), so I know that won't be a problem. Though I don't know how this scales for U&L and Meta. I guess I could remove the notifications for U&L / Meta in case they become a problem.

@404 what was the story on Mathoverflow.net?
I do recall it is an SE1.0 site but why was that?
Are they separate from the company?

I thought it was upgraded to SE 2.0 a while ago?

Not if I look at their site layout
somewhere I recall there is a story why this site is/looks different
@MikeEdenfield you might be right, they kept the retro look ;)

user315433
See the answers by Mad and myself. The design is old. At the time of migration, it seemed important to reproduce the familiar design as closely as possible. I don't think they like it very much now, but SE probably not going to make a new one soon.

MO is the one that was an SE-hosted site but wasn't owned/operated by SO it just had a special arrangement with SO to keep their autonomy but be part of the network or something?

@rene I was going to ask you if the CVR wanted it. I'll do it later; adding another chat room involves figuring out how to say "report x in the Tavern is the same as report y in the SOCVR". But that's kinda important...
I think that also applies to the AU room

Q: Smoke the SmokeDetector

QuillSmokeTheSmokeDetector Over in Tavern on the Meta, our spam detector, SmokeDetector has been the topic of an ongoing argument between those who believe SmokeDetector fills the chatroom, and those who believe his service is payment enough. While you can ignore users, you can't exactly ignore spec...

Has anything changed since I left?

Nope

hi there. i like your keyboard.

Shog9 did manage to score a negatively rated meta answer in the meantime, though
Again, Smokey? :-)

hichris123 is teaching the bot to delete its messages when the offending post is deleted.

So far it seems to be doing the converse :-D

@JanDvorak I assume that is his first negative rated answer then?

9:29 PM
Perhaps.

yay.
That deletion was non-manual.
@JanDvorak I'm currently deleting & undeleting that post to test.

You know there will be a moment that we ask the Duck to kick you @hichris123?

Someday, someone's going to take a look at the revision history and have serious questions about my sanity...

Oh, we are a testing ground once more

@rene Yeah, probably. But I hope not. :P

@hichris123 guess what! That day has come! What can we say about @hichris123's sanity? Back after the break ...

Shog has quite a few negatively scored answers.

@rene :P

@JanDvorak ah the chmod 777 case. Was discussed here a bit as well between Shog9 and the OP.

Any consensus?

9:37 PM
yes. chmod 777 is a bad idea.
spamming 100s of identical comments in a short time is also a bad idea.
in short: the internet is a bad idea

@JanDvorak I didn't follow the thread, didn't care to read exactly what happened but Shog9 wasn't thrilled about what happened there

Neither was the community.

Alright, now Smokey should auto-delete answer reports if the answer is deleted within the 2-minute window.
Next up: doing it in multiple rooms.

I saw chmod 777 and thought I do that all the time on windows, where is the fuzz about

@rene Well duh. There's no overlap between reports posted in here and the SOCVR (since the Tavern gets no SO reports). So I didn't even need to make any fancy comparison methods.
DeletionWatcher is now turned on for the CVR.

@Telkitty Are unicorns related to horses though?

hey @hichris, what do you think about having smokey automatically move successful reports and the human responses (in the SOCVR room)

user202362
@JasonC what do you think?

user202362
Personally I think they are as much related as bacon & ham

@Quill I thought about that a little but then you'd have to delete the move message (otherwise you'd have the same amount of clutter).

10:23 PM
I suppose so. and if it all gets cleaned up later on by the graveyard bot

@Telkitty Well like, we can't say a zebra is a species of horse.

they're close
obviously not the same species, but maybe the level higher than that

We could say a unicorn is an equine species, which diverged from horses before horses were cool.
Unless they evolved from horses. But I think unicorns have been around for a while. I'm pretty sure they ruled over every age of dinosaurs.
