...the hell is up with this. In all the WwF games I'm playing I'm overloaded with vowels.

Yeah, I had the same problem for a bit, heh.

That's why Italian rocks! :P

AIUOLE
(AIUOLA works too, and AULA, and OLIO, and...)

gives his excess vowels to @radp

5:07 PM
@TimStone AO.

We'll need a Finnish scapegoat as well for when I get too many consonants...

Yatta! Lost!
I may be at the office before 1:30 today ... /facepalm

Hello

5:40 PM
@radp Aioli to the rescue!

What game is this?

Okay looks tired at the unwieldly starred list
enough of this
I'm tired of sifting through page and page of starred posts to find old funnies.
The solution obviously is making a just as unwieldly tumblr, because that's what all the cool kids do!

@radp Make a special gallery chat room named "radp's list of actually funny Tavern posts" and post permalinks from here

@MichaelMrozek Words with Friends on iPhone

Ah. You people and your games I can't play

5:55 PM
Woah. I can view .user.js extensions now in Chrome.

@TimStone Is that like this?
user image
3

@RebeccaChernoff Really?
I mean, it was a trivial change...but since it hadn't happened yet, I'm surprised.

I wasn't thinking when I clicked it, and then wondered wtf I had clicked on that was displaying.

@NickT Yeah, but we're all a bit too far apart to sit around a table with a real game of Scrabble. :P
Hahah
status-bydesign

If that much value was going to be placed on something that is little more than an opinion, I'd look else where to a place where value was placed on data and research
@radp I'll say this in here because I don't want to start something, but people's opinions aren't important, but we should throw a fit about ignoring them? I don't get it.

6:24 PM
@TimStone corward :P

Eh, I just don't think it's a productive area of discussion at this point..

I'm sure tzenes can write a couple screenfuls on the difference, but it defeats me right now

OK, as long as it's not just me I'm happy to leave it at that ;)

6:41 PM
@Fosco Having now randomly remembered, why did you ask about PHP earlier, by the way? :P

7:06 PM
@TimStone Oh.. I was just working on something last night and still thinking about it this morning..

I spent several years making PHP sites, to answer your question more seriously.

I love it.. It's absolutely my favorite language to develop in. I don't understand the hate it gets. )

@Fosco I think it's because it's so simple one can do serious damage without knowing much.

The PHP compiler annoys me a little bit and there are some things that shouldn't be so hard, but I don't have any more grips about it than other languages I work with. :)

@mootinator yeah... That's true about a lot of things. It doesn't mean it's all bad.

7:11 PM
I like Cake.

I'm building something with an MVC style, using PHP for lightweight web services... I think it's elegant... jQuery for the view (obviously)

Heheh

@Fosco Saying jQuery for the view (obviously) is redundant.

I may be superfluous and redundant.. but I also repeat myself and use too many words.
2

Chuck Norris once tried to roundhouse jQuery. He ended up in the hospital.

7:16 PM
aw man... a chuck norris joke can't end with chuck norris in the hospital!

Sorry. jQuery > Chuck Norris.

Does that imply that $.chuckNorris() is the most devastating weapon in existence?

Yes. Yes it does.

7:53 PM
Clearly my vocabulary is extensive.

8:05 PM
hahaha
About to start another learn how to be me meeting. I'll try to play during that, maybe after. >_<

@RebeccaChernoff Ah...fun stuff. Heheh ;)

There was a hint of "Poor @RebeccaChernoff" in there, but it doesn't translate to text well. :P

Can't stay, just looking for starred post fron @RebeccaChernoff

Hahahah

8:10 PM
Only German-speaking people will appreciate that, but I literally LOLed at the first comment on this example question

you guys have got to stop starring all "Oy" messages

Q: God and its many names

Nick THere are a couple names I've seen used for a monotheistic god in questions and answers so far: skydaddy omnipotent being who's fucking with us Now, in effort to promote a civil discussion between atheists and potential theists who would join this site, should we discourage these "colorful" na...

(private beta)

That took far too long to find. There are too many starred messages and far too many posts by @RebeccaChernoff
OK. Back to work. Later everyone!

Oh, I didn't even realize the atheism SE had started

8:16 PM
yeah, last night

Oh, meta. I spent a good 30 seconds trying to figure out why api.atheism.stackexchange.com/1.0/questions/… completely didn't match up with that onebox

@DanGrossman I was not aware of that transition
@TimStone I'll be on the explanation of that as soon as I get my PC going ... 1:30 was apparently a bad time estimate on ETA :p

@TimStone A finnish scapegoat for consontants? I think you are thinking czech or polish

@Pekka I dunno, Finnish has a number of words with an excessive amount of double consonants :P

No, finnish is the language with the excessive amount of umlauts and vocals
Hyvinkää
Päämäärä
(means goal or target)

8:25 PM
@drachenstern Hahah. I'm on a teleconference now anyway. yawns
@Pekka Well, that's true.

I voted to unflag the flag, but it's still in place.
Doesn't my opinion count anything in here?

We're all just here so Marc and balpha can laugh at us. :(

we have decided on the unflagging rules, but I think they're not fully implemented yet
and I feel bad unflagging my own post :)
but I'll still do it
quoting falls under freedom of the press

I like Skydaddy, though
But an ATHEISM StackExchange? Is that a serious proposal?
How is that going to be anything else but a war zone?

actually, most of the questions look quite interesting so far
let's see if it can keep up when it comes out of private beta

8:29 PM
Yeah!
I'm interested to see how all the religion-related sites do "in the field".
It would be nice if things would manage to stay mostly on-topic, and apolitical
The example questions in the Judaism proposal already blew my mind. There's so much astounding stuff
Really interesting, being able to peek into those universes

@Pekka then look at mi.yodeya.com

@mootinator Well, it's obviously off-topic because the man is clearly beyond child-carrying age

@mootinator lmao

@balpha ah, I didn't know there was a SE1.0 site! Wow.

8:34 PM
I spent an hour just reading on there
I didn't understand a thing, but it's awesome

@balpha yeah same here!

physics.SE is kindergarten compared to that

yeah

@balpha What about that

@NickT Found it quite interesting what the starting problem on that site are. TBH, the questions so far are a whole lot better than what I'd have expected

8:38 PM
just making sure I don't get another Hannah ;)

Is that a Sombrero?

@balpha Yeah, nothing too vitriolic has popped up

@Pekka perhaps so ;)

@drachenstern A very poorly drawn normal distribution?

@TimStone so apparently the range for male testosterone for someone in my age/heritage/whatever follows pretty closely to this SAT bellcurve
with [250 : 850] being the acceptable range
I'm 214
That was the check this AM

8:40 PM
@drachenstern I'm voting this as comparison of the day.

@drachenstern where does your user name come from? Any reason it's two german words?

I could've typed that earlier from the phone, but the bellcurve image makes it so much more fun to consider what it means to be that much of an outlier ;)

Ah ha

@Pekka because it's two german words.

@drachenstern do you have german roots?
or some other affinity?

8:41 PM
I was in a RPG phase when I dreamed it up, and taking German classes in HS. They made us pick a Deutsch first name for practicing the language, because "Brenda" or "Joey" aren't really Germanic, so I chose Sven instead of Cole and thought a given name without a family name was silly

Heh, nice!

so Drachenstern, Prince of the Dragon-clan was the intent, and it sounded like a decent "old world" name for RPGing
@TimStone and I'm ok with that.
So my choices are a subcutaneous pellet or transdermal patches, so I'm going with transdermal for now, see how that works out

Those sound like words you used in Words with Friends. :P But yeah, that would have been my first choice as well, heh.

I have all of these but #4 so thought I should, ya know, talk to the doc about it, rather than keep creating stress in the boudoir (cf 1,3,7) and hoping that 10 is a benefit too ;)
@Pekka after taking German for 3 years in an academic setting, we also kept an exchange student for a year, and we still keep in touch.
@TimStone haha, which words?

I named a DnD character 'Laird Proudshaft' then shortly after bought a home in the RM of Laird, SK. It may have influenced my decision a small amount.

8:46 PM
@drachenstern I have some of those, but I think it's more related to mild depression. :P

So to all the guys in here, you should take that quiz and consider talking to the doctor ... I know it's a weird talk, but I did it, so I can recommend it.

@drachenstern subcutaneous and transdermal, ignoring that they're too long of words to play at once.

@TimStone it was the 1,3,7 that was bothering me enough to make it an issue. LowT can also resemble depression. Have you had any blood workups lately, or do you take anything?
I'm also on Straterra for ADHD so that could be the reason for #1
@TimStone yeah, I so need a rematch :p

Hi all.
Who has personal problems to share today?
:-D

I told my wife (we went out for lunch) that I would've failed my SATs had that been my SAT score (and I drew the bell curve) and she laughed and said "can't you even get your name right?" :p
@Moshe I do I do, read up for the past two screenfulls ;)

8:49 PM
Oh, ok

So interesting fact, Testosterone isn't on a feedback loop in the body like other chemicals, so adding it to the system doesn't encourage another organ to stop sending chemicals out, so that's an interesting factoid.

@drachenstern Hm, probably less than a year ago. I forgot what we were checking for, I think it had to do with my being tired. I have a lot of weird things that aren't quite right with me but the doctor has had issues diagnosing, heh.
@drachenstern I'm still playing the game 1 with Rebecca and Jin, so I'm down for another game whenever you want. :P

Good luck to both of you then. My personal problem: Adobe's Flash platform. Cya all later. G'luck!

@drachenstern Hahah
See ya @Moshe

@TimStone oh that sucks to begin with. Well this panel needed to be run separately from normal tests, but she (my doc, also: makes it difficult to start the discussion :S ) did a regular battery of others of some sort along with it. Pretty much all my "regular" levels are fine. Apparently she has a large number of patients getting some sort of T treatment atm. Adverts do help eh?
@Moshe I would rather have my problem than yours :p g'luck

8:53 PM
@drachenstern - Thanks.

9:19 PM
Killing firefox by loading a dom with 40k records for fun. Yay me.

@drachenstern Apparently so :P
Oh Firefox...

9:44 PM
@TheUnhandledException wonders what you were looking for
And it isn't my fault y'all star practically everything I say. ):

Hahah

@RebeccaChernoff How would you say getting constant stars make you feel? Try to express it in a short, monosyllabic word if possible

@MichaelMrozek are you thinking about "yay" maybe?

9:59 PM
@RebeccaChernoff it's shake n bake n I helped! but I'll play nice too :p

wasn't sure she saw it or if she was /afk

@drachenstern Always good when I start laughing when I'm on a teleconference. :P

I did, ya brat. >_<

@TimStone especially when you've got someone like Ben Stein monologuing ;)
@RebeccaChernoff hey I took it off ;)
I have exactly one gold star on the left atm tyvm, and it's on Tim

10:02 PM
me too (:

\o/

@MichaelMrozek I believe the meta questioner wants to avoid "visit new.SE, create an account, verify with OpenID, link to others, refresh page" and go straight to "visit new.SE and voila*" where *=and the magic happens for me

Q: Automatically Apply Login to every stack site

tshauckHi, I'm becoming come active and I'd like to not have to log-in to each site when I'd like to get started. Is there any way to log-in one place to have all accounts connected? EDIT: Yes so I'm using Chrome, and when I click on the drop down in upper right then go to a site where I don't have a...

However, I could be incredibly wrong. It's happened before, it'll happen again

Yeah, because it'd be super cool to get an account created on each new.SE that someone links me to...
Since I'm so eager to join Maths.

@TimStone you'll notice I did "new.SE" :p ("on every site" ... my mind went to "tumblr, cnn.com, bananarepublic" :p)

10:04 PM
Fixed ;)

oh sure, after I can't edit mine anymore :p

Timing is key. :D

10:31 PM
So besides having a customer isolate like four distinct problems on one phone call, following up on a CSS accessibility issue from last night that sapped two useful hours from my day, and only having a three hour day today, I think I'm doing good for the fact that I'm leaving in 30 minutes. You guys?

Nice, heheh. I'm...still on this conference call.
yawns a bit

oh geez, still?
that's going on two and a part hours now, yeah?

Yep :P

Uncaught Error: HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR: DOM Exception 3

No DOM for you!

10:37 PM
I am a smart cookie.
I figured out how to $('div') instead of $('<div />') while looking to build some expressive code that's easily maintainable
then when I appended to it, it uh ... yeah

;)

And unless I miss my guess, Uncaught Error: HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR: DOM Exception 3 means "I had a reference to an object but then the object just went boom"
@TimStone I guess it weren't so maintainable huh? :p

Perhaps not. Like most of my code, apparently. :P

Firefox is still locked up. Oh if only there were a browser where individual tabs were individual processes... note to self: don't do that again.

The fact that Firefox didn't even manage to do that by the time 3.6 rolled around makes me very sad.
Just like they don't have a "stop this alert() from popping up"

10:44 PM
Chrome > Firefox. End of story. (:

Yeah, yeah. :p

@RebeccaChernoff I don't think I'm disagreeing with you in the least, just curious what $(this).wasThinking() when running that particular 40k recordset into the browser ...

is confused

too

god I hate security people

10:49 PM
@RebeccaChernoff howso? I have a hung firefox session that is my own doing. Had I started it in Chrome I wouldn't have this problem. I already knew Chrome > Firefox. The two are separate. Still curious what I was thinking.
@Zypher who doesn't?

@Zypher ha!
@drachenstern, oh, so you meant what $(me).wasThinking() (;

well sure, but there is no $(me) natively, and I didn't want to define it, so went for the naive $(this) selector instead ;)

but that was the part that confused me! (;

oh oh I think I have a chance to abort ops :D
@RebeccaChernoff ahhh, so you forgot that I'm lazy ;) I always go for the naive selector if I'm only pulling it once :D ... I'm very lazy

@Zypher Why's that? :P

10:52 PM
sometimes that lends to bad practices (cf open large large large recordsets in the wrong browser)

@drachenstern, I had just switched back to chat...I hadn't read up so I had no idea what was going on. q:

oh Posh firefox, you can do better than 441MB consumed memory (I know, I've seen it)
@RebeccaChernoff oh :p

changes the context of @drachenstern's this to someone else
@drachenstern Hah! My Firefox is up to 1 GB
...Wait...son of a bi...

ehh ... chat about some asinine security "problem" that has taken more of my brainpower to discuss than "solving" it would fix ...

@TimStone not in my processing session you don't. I don't allow access to modify my internal variables, I have a protective memory model that prevents that

10:53 PM
anyway time to catch a train

@Zypher, kick back and grab a beer.
...or catch a train.

@Zypher Did someone bring up Firesheep again? :P

@RebeccaChernoff indeed

@drachenstern What kind of obscure JavaScript are you running? ;)
@RebeccaChernoff ...with a beer.
Ah, zoning out again.

10:57 PM
@TimStone the kind that doesn't let you fiddle with my internal bits from across the way, a special form of closure

...I'm going to stop commenting now. :P

heheheh, are you trying to say I've gone off the deepend? I believe so, cos I really wanna leave the office right now I have things to take care of

I'd leave the office, but uh...I'm not sure what that'd imply.

Leave the office, sounds great!
And maybe I'll get home before the freezing rain and ice.

Party time!
That'd be a plus, heh.

I'm still on the phone.

Yippee.

11:53 PM
@TimStone, hang up!
mwuahaha

@RebeccaChernoff But we're talking about where to assign the time we spent on the phone in the time tracking system..
Super important! (I just copy whatever everyone else puts in)

I surely don't miss time tracking systems

And...done.
@Zypher We don't use them for payroll purposes, but since we're a small company it comes in handy for planning future development. I'm not entirely sure why it needs to be broken down so granularly, but that's why I'm not in charge of business things. :P

4 more days! this feels weird!

11:57 PM
@RebeccaChernoff WOOHOOOOOO

Heheh, almost free! ;)

the wierdest is always handing in your badge and equipment and walking out for the last time

we're actually doing a farewell after work on the 21st. so it'll be across the street to the bar. hehe

actually when i left my last job my friend walked me out ... he looked suprised when i went "oh yea here's my badge"
