Really? What are they going to call that? ProbablyOutdated.SE?

first:
23
Hardware Recommendations

Proposed Q&A site for people seeking specific hardware recommendations, either for home or office.

Currently in definition.

and second
1
Hardware Counseling

Proposed Q&A site for people who would like to get useful advice about choosing a technology or a piece of hardware

Currently in definition.

@SPArchaeologist that sounds like a therapy group for IT personnel

@AnnaLear cannot you staff member silently delete both proposal and then announce that "Area 51 servers had some hardware problems but we are back up now with minimal data loss"?

Thank goodness it's not "Counselling Hardware"

@SPArchaeologist tempting...

5:11 PM
@SPArchaeologist Looks like Area 51 needed that proposal for the hardware decision then ;)

@Bart You don't find smart sensors for toilets to be the most meaningful thing in your life?

If those are surviving I am tempted to start a proposal for something like mlpfim.stackexchange.com
or even better - rlyeh.stackexchange.com

Does anyone know why some required tags on per-meta sites are grayed out, even if they can be used?
"discussion" and "feature-request" are grayed out, but "support" and "bug" are not.

link to the page you're looking at?

5:27 PM
@ProgramFOX they have "visited" styling
like links

Ok, I see.
Thanks!

Is this suitable for softwarerecs?

No.
It's not specific enough.

So my last comment is ok?

It is.

5:35 PM
Edited it to be more precise...
Tnx @ProgramFOX

Actually, you can answer that question with just one word: "Yes"
If the title would be different, of course.

I rather have it closed quickly with 0 answers

5:52 PM
@SPArchaeologist: That would be worse. :P
Is it okay to answer a question like "A or B is better?" with a benchmark test instead of "It doesn't matter"? Example question: stackoverflow.com/questions/22564315

@AmalMurali I would say that's fine. Good answers make better questions
We both know who downvoted it

Isn't that the other way round? "Good questions produce better answers?" Or am I mistaken?
@JoshCrozier: Haha, yes. Yes we do! I wonder how he still has so many votes left :P
I'm not really worried about the downvote - I just wanted to make sure it's okay :P

6:12 PM
I wonder if I should flag this as NAA. It doesn't satisfy this: "you must disclose your affiliation with the product in your answers.".

/me applies REJECT HAMMER

Tnx @AmalMurali and @ProgramFOX

See this suggested edit where the user "improved grammer". lol
Interesting discussion in the comments:
@Your: I am not taking a view as to whether the attempt is weak or not. I am interested in why you use language that appears to be, at the very least, undiplomatic against the OP. Nearly every comment you make on this site, to my ears, appears to be unpleasant or abrasive. I appreciate you don't mean to be rude, but notwithstanding, this demeanour is apparent in nearly all of your posts. I should be most grateful if you would consider that. — halfer 21 hours ago
Thanks @Your; here, I might say "insecure". In the context, the modifier is unnecessary - the word "attempt" is neutral and is fine on its own. But it isn't just that you mentioned your negative view of his/her competence (twice) - your language is frequently peppered with unguarded remarks about people's skills. People are "useless", supplied classes are "unusable", readers "can't manage to comprehend", writers give "the MOST AWFUL answer possible" and supply "irrelevant paragraphs". If you can provide meaning without stepping on peoples toes, I think it would be greatly appreciated. — halfer 21 hours ago

@AmalMurali better comment: fiddled with grammar

Why is tail called tail?

Q: Why is it called tail? The Linux/Unix command?

rapaduraI dont know which stackexchange this question belongs to most, but seriously, why tail? Wouldnt "end" or "last" have been a better name? Feet perhaps, considering we have head.

seems to me that the second answer is perfectly suitable:
3
A: Why is it called tail? The Linux/Unix command?

BokluciusBy the description from wikipedia: tail is a program on Unix and Unix-like systems used to display the tail end of a text file or piped data. And a definition of tail end: The last or hindmost part of something as from http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/tail-end

I wasn't looking for the answer. The question was rather amusing, especially the thought that it could be called feet.

The previous title was funnier

6:34 PM
I thought the first answer was pretty funny

6:45 PM
So, Area 51 is currently having issues. It reports I have no other accounts on the Stack Exchange network, which is definitely not true.

@EdCottrell It's like that everywhere - not just area 51

@JoshCrozier Trying to verify that, but suddenly all of SE seems to have ground to a halt for me.
@JoshCrozier Looks like the main SE profile page works: stackexchange.com/users/2348349/ed-cottrell?tab=accounts

@EdCottrell I'm looking at your SO profile
This seems to be the case with every site.. Just not Stack Exchange

@JoshCrozier Weird.

cya @TGMCians

It happens sometimes
It should fix itself in a moment

Nice, a bug that fix itself! It would be great if that would happen if there is a bug in my code...

7:42 PM
@3ventic Is it like one of those Apple's Do Not Disturb self fixing bug‌?

7:57 PM
It's some kind of caching issue
if I recall correctly that is

Q: Example of string matching using jfuzzyLogic

Dessin WilkinHow can i make string similarity using jfuzzyLogic? I have a table in database and i want to link some records via the firstname or lastname similarity. I am new in fuzzy logic. Help me please. Thank you?

I don't know what he's doing in those comments

9:29 PM
Simple: he doesn't know about the edit button so he posted new comments
having said that, his edits don't seem to make a lot of sense

Commencing weekend.

I am already well into my saturday

We... have a tag? Okay... that's not broad at all. :P
Not another one of those never-ending LQP reviews... stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/4397037
@Shog9 What's up with that?

10:00 PM
@hichris123 ?

@Shog9 That the system doesn't auto-delete the post after 6 recommend deletetions.

@hichris123 positively-scored answer
only mods can delete
Gonna change that so when it hits 6, the system either deletes it or dumps it into the mod queue

@Shog9 ... why? If six people agree that it's bad... no edit action, no looks good action... why can't we delete it?

68
Q: Let's get rid of the 10K flag queue

Shog9The 10K tools are pretty cool... You get a birds-eye view of activity on the site, a "dashboard" view of what's happening. Some of the individual tools haven't scaled particularly well with Stack Overflow's growth, but the concept behind them is still sound: we trust you to enough to be a bee wat...

@hichris123 you're asking why 7 people can't delete any answer on the site?

@Shog9 Well... the system does only dump certain stuff into the queue...

10:03 PM
what about this answer:
11202
A: Why is processing a sorted array faster than an unsorted array?

MysticialYou are the victim of branch prediction fail. What is Branch Prediction? Consider a railroad junction: Image by Mecanismo, via Wikimedia Commons. Used under the CC-By-SA 3.0 license. Now for the sake of argument, suppose this is back in the 1800s - before long distance or radio communicati...

Should 7 people be able to delete that, just by flagging then reviewing it?
Just for the hell of it?

@Shog9 Wait, flags end up in that queue?

@hichris123 yes
you didn't know?

@Shog9 I wasn't sure. Thought it was weighted... So what you're saying is if someone flags something NAA or VLQ, it might end up there?

@hichris123 right

I really wish we could cancel flags

10:05 PM
@Shog9 Simply require one additional reviewer for every upvote
Or 2 additional ones.

^ That

@TimWolla so for the above question you would need an additional 11202 reviewers?

Or make it mod-deletable only *only if it's a score > 5 or 10 *

@Nacimota Yeah. For a total of 11208 and counting

@Nacimota Nope. One looks good would kick it out.
Or edit for that matter.

10:07 PM
...oooor, just drop undeletable posts from /review once they hit the deletion threshold and let a mod decide.
Since resolving sticky situations is what y'all elected them for

That could work... however, we really need a mod to look at a post all because it had one upvote? That's... crazy.

gotta draw the line somewhere.

Well, actually @Shog9 does that mean that if I downvoted that answer, it would be auto-deleted?

@hichris123 well, the next review would trigger deletion
I mean, if I hadn't already deleted it it would

Huh, okay.

10:10 PM
@hichris123 But yeah, you gotta ask at some point, how "low quality" is a post that manages to attract at least one up-vote and no down-votes...
No votes at all? Sure. Folks are stingy with their votes.
But there's a long, long tail of answers where one upvote is really the best you can hope for
one up-vote or accept

@Shog9 Well, actually, there's a question for you: how many posts have been reviewed in the VLQ queue where the score >= 1, non-audits, and how many deleted/non-deleted?

55478
819 deleted. 104 with 6 or more delete/recommend-delete reviews.

has the close votes queue slowed down or does it just appear that way

yes

@Nacimota There is such a big number again ;)

I need to somehow claw my way up to 3K so I can help
the queue will probably be empty by the time I get there :P

@Nacimota I don't think so. If I remember correctly we are currently at the 2-CV-Filtering and have 23k left.

oh is there another section to go after the current one?

10:45 PM
@hichris123 That's my bad - I misremembered the existing behavior.

1 hour later…
11:46 PM
@Shog9 And then get suspended shortly after? Perhaps by a particular floating head? ;)
