Q: Let's get rid of the 10K flag queue

Shog9The 10K tools are pretty cool... You get a birds-eye view of activity on the site, a "dashboard" view of what's happening. Some of the individual tools haven't scaled particularly well with Stack Overflow's growth, but the concept behind them is still sound: we trust you to enough to be a bee wat...

Oh, wait, I'm an idiot. I assumed that my inability to view vote counts on Super User was due to JS failure; turns out I only have 120 rep there.

lol

Where's my "You are worthless and every time you get told not to do something you go do something else that's just as bad" mod message?

1:43 AM
The post notice feature request has a "current event" post notice. Yeah, waffles, you're hilarious.

I don't get nearly enough private messages/emails from moderators telling me that I am going to get banned if I kept on trolling, I feel 'unloved' ... I wonder mods can put a user here on his/her ignore/plonk ...

can someone create a program to determine how many questions this user asked in one post?

someone to give the final delete vote to burn that?
@jadarnel27: yes, I love playing music.

2:47 AM
@hichris123 He left out the most important part where users can vote to add post notices!

@LaszloPapp I would, but then Lance would just yell at me.

yeah, you cannot please everyone.

Does anyone know if you can vote to delete your own question if it's closed?

Q: Promises - ECMAScript 6 vs. 3rd Party Libraries

JLRisheI hope this question isn't too "opinion based" for SO. If there's a better way to word this question to fit SO's guidelines, I will be happy to revise it. I am not in fact asking for opinions, but rather a comparison that would allow making an informed decision between a variety of approaches. I...

5 reopen votes and still not reopened?

@LaszloPapp It's opened now. Maybe it was delayed?

yes, that is what I am noticing, too.
I see it literally reopen(5)
sadly, I did not make a screenshot, so I cannot prove it.

@LaszloPapp One of the reopen votes just aged away 8 minutes ago. ;P There might've been a race condition there.

I believe you - I have noticed the same thing

3:09 AM
Not exactly sure, though.

hmm, ok.

@animuson If someone closes their own question, do they have the ability to vote to delete it given that they have 10k?

@JoshCrozier Umm, I'm not sure. I think the "you're the owner" restrictions override your 10k privileges.
So if it has upvoted answers or whatever you're probably forbidden.

Interesting. I want to delete a question of mine because it was the first thing I did on this site and it was a bad question (had someone else asked it, I would have voted to close it). It was based on a misunderstanding and it will be of no use to anyone. I was going to try closing it in order to see if I could vote to delete it..

But the first question you asked is already deleted. ;P

3:17 AM
Oh wow.. I don't even remember that one.

Ah, memories.

It's embarrassing and a little hypocritical given that I have since closed hundreds of questions..

@jmac Have you fallen in love with post notices or something? :P

I'm pretty sure once before I thanked someone for pointing out all the crappy questions I asked as a noob.

@animuson I voted to close it as unclear.. I'll see if I can delete it after it's closed.

3:25 AM
oh, noooooes, moderators had bad questions?!

btw, I dislike the fact that I cannot downvote directly in the VLQ queue.
I always have to open the answer up in a new tab. :/

Q: Remove Upvote/Downvote Icons from Low Quality Queue

OGHazaIn the Low Quality Posts queue the upvote/downvote icons are displayed but they don't respond to clicks. It has been pointed out in comments that it is by-design that we cannot vote in this queue, but the behaviour of these buttons is not consistent with the rest of the site. I'd expect either...

@hichris123 Yes

@Undo Ew?

Caught 'em here
@Blue You can't review 700 suggested edits on SO and only reject 45 of them

@Undo Ew.

... And be legit

@Undo Ah.,. maybe he just has an itchy review finger
clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick

4:47 AM
Custom flagged them, he'll have to find something else for that finger to do.

@Undo Uh, ok then.
@Undo On second thought, I really don't want to know what you were thinking.
I flagged the damn thing 20 minutes ago... I guess nobody else caught on

Yeesh
Oh, and don't edit teh spamz

@Undo Yeah, I thought better of it after I removed the link
Wasn't sure if there was an official policy on that

Yeah, you don't edit, comment on or really touch spam other than flagging it.

@un Makes sense. Thanks for the tip

4:53 AM
No problem ;)

Goodnight all! See you tomorrow!

resumes patrol through suggested edit queue looking for offenders

What kind of ratio waves a little red flag for you @Undo?

Meh, it's arbitrary @Andy

Cool. I like arbitrary.

4:55 AM
Usually if I caught them approving crap, and they have a >3:1 ratio, they're always robo reviewers.
But ya know, common sense
If they have a string of eighty approves, then a string of eighty rejects, something's up.

That would make it pretty obvious.

stackoverflow.com/users/272287/jdphenix is on a change-site.com-to-example.com roll >:(
300:30 and 330:50

5:16 AM
@Undo I have come across a bunch of those.. should they be approved..?
..im leaning towards 'too minor'..
We currently have someone going on a suggested edit spree trying to change all the "site.com"s to "example.com"s. Should we approve them? — Undo 14 mins ago

6:07 AM
Shouldn't even marginal improvements be put through? What I consider to be too minor is synonym swaps where the prior was perfectly acceptable. But site.com -> example.com is arguably an improvement?

7:03 AM
whom do I ping to ask for quick cleanup of cross-site spammer sock puppets?
this is cross-site spam. Asker and answerer look like sock puppets planting fake Q&A to promote link advertized in the answer. Their accounts at other sites seem to be doing the same trick, see eg at Freelancing: freelancing.stackexchange.com/questions/1583/…gnat 4 mins ago
^^^ would better be someone with sufficient power for full garbage collection

@Shog, rather than continue the back-and-forth in the comments on the 10k flag queue question, I added an answer that I hope explains my thought process better, and gives you and the SE staff some ideas on how to solve the underlying problem.

7:40 AM
Hi guys
I was thinking that there should be a different privilege/badge/award for the yearlings. such that it should be visible in the flair and other small flairs too.
Is it a good idea?

@gnat from my own experience, the best response from the team comes when you email them. Not fastest, but best quality.
@Mr_Green not really, it won't be very popular (aka downvotes if you post it as feature request). What makes the yearling so special in your opinion? It's just another badge.
Hmm... manual suspension is pretty rare in Meta. but glad to see it used!

8:09 AM
@ShadowWizard I think that if we highlight it then it let other users know that this is a experienced user.
I not pointing you but these days many users who know very less are earning more points like 10k+

@Mr_Green And earning 200 points per year is somehow harder??

it depends
whether that user has time or not
but they might have given good suggestions through comments

200 points is the maximum earnable in one day. Say I log in one day with 1 rep and hijack a few hot questions for cheap rep, capping out at +200 (total 201). I then sit idle for 364 days. When the one-year mark rolls around, bam, Yearling. Now, under your scheme, I'm more trustworthy than a 10k who's accumulated that rep in the past ten months with a bunch of insightful questions and answers.

I hope that user has learnt something in that year instead of sitting idle
that is very rare case
if a user has crossed over one year, then ofcourse he/she will be learnt many things

I totally disagree @Mr_Green but feel free to start feature request, it's your full right. :)

8:17 AM
@Mr_Green What if they haven't? What if it isn't rare? (And on that second one, given the number of robo-reviewers we have, all of whom have at least 500 rep...) This just creates problems by assuming "years experience" (and those are real scare quotes, because hypothetical user can sit idle for 364 days a year and do nothing) == experience.
"Some people don't have five years' experience - they have five minutes' experience repeated thousands of times."

I even not much prepared to start this discussion that is why I thought to clear my understanding here..
@michaelb958 I agree.. you have point.

8:34 AM
This could easily be checked with a query where you look for users who have been around for a year, and what % of them have been active for however many days. My guess is there are far more inactive users than active ones most of the time.

9:00 AM

@juergend you tell the user what not to do so yeah, that's not really an answer.

1:52 PM
@ShadowWizard: Yes, in the first sentance. But then I tell him what to do instead. But, never mind. Not that important :)

You seem to try and educate the OP rather than giving direct answer, @juergen. But yeah, pretty minor issue.

I feel conflicted about questions like this one.
Part of me wants to just downvote and move on.
Because I think voting to close all these types of questions as dupes of the NRE question is kind of silly.
And I'm not sure any other close reason truly fits.

@Doorknob ?
@ShadowWizard The server I use is going to be cycled with a different one soon, so I shut it down till we finish with that

@Manishearth You've been very inactive on SE for a while. (Also your bot)

@ShadowWizard Yep, I'm really really busy. Not frustrated :)

A: Bring back the "Very Low Quality" flag option for closed, off-topic questions

Shog9This isn't really necessary. Otherwise people with enough rep can simply vote to delete it later. -- ThiefMast...

@Undo shog is shog, but I don't always agree with him
That's one of those rare cases

same here. But I agree in this case
The argument I saw from him somewhere is that such things are abusive to the system, and thus should be flagged as such

So LATD ;)

Because we want the spam-thumper gizmo trained on these things too.

@Undo I don't see a sort option on Blaze. :-(

3:14 PM
@Doorknob you type in the site, hit the fetch answers button, then it shows up in the middle of the top bar.

@ShadowWizard I don't have 2000 rep on any other sites though. :/
@ShadowWizard And, because I have almost no experience with JavaScript, HTML, and Userscripts in general, the way I'd make it is by googling a bunch of stuff, putting all the code together, and trying to figure out why it doesn't do what I want.

@TheGuywithTheHat just be careful not to approve crap because of that, by mistake :)

@ShadowWizard Exactly

Well, you can copy the markup and relevant scripts into a jsfiddle
But it's going to be lots of work

Doorknob There won't be an Apps and Projects section What about other technical/programming sites, like Code Golf or Programmers? What if I want my projects to be there? 4:30 PM
Guys what should I do for this type of question where guys did not demostrate minimal understanding stackoverflow.com/questions/20989518/… Generally I do CV as too broad, is it right ?

@TGMCians "it lacks sufficient information to diagnose the problem" might fit as well

I don't think so

Without minimal understanding user can't put enough information

because question is clear to understand

So don't close :)
Just downvote, comment, and move on.

4:33 PM
hmm

The "lack of minimal understanding" was removed for a reason, I assume
As this alone doesn't mean question should be closed.

@ShadowWizard but for what reason ?

downvote needs no reason

So 5 users found it bad enough that it needed to close, yet only two users downvoted?
And nobody bothered to edit.

I decided to close that because there are either too many possible answers to do so

@jan fixed that one :]

@BlueIce Especially Friday. And why are you not "Brown Ice" yet? Get with the program.

@bart Um, gross?

You're thinking of yellow snow.

6:38 PM
Just a fast question

Too slow

If I edit / add a comment to an old question it will be seen by users who downvoted it?
:P
I mean..

@bart Brown ice is the color of ice on roads. It probably tastes equally awful as yellow snow, and it looks like somebody made a car exhaust Popsicle.

I've been asked to improve the quality of some old question
but after editing them can I expect that they will be read again?

@BlueIce <homer> Car exhaust popsicle ... hmmagrghlllgll </homer>

6:40 PM
@rev Yes? Anyone can see edits to questions.

If you edit posts, that will cause them to be bumped @Revious

Are you afraid of retaliation?

what's the meaning of "bumped"?

@rev What Bart said.
Whoops, bad timing.

They will appear on the front page again, if they don't have a significant number of downvotes @Revious. The downvoters will however not be notified.

whatever, if I am going to be lectured - nevermind

@helios Noooooo! Come back!

6:45 PM
@Helios I think it was intended as advice, not a lecture. You're more likely to get a good response if you include a message with your ping. :)

@Revious It's always best to ask on the site's Meta. They can best advice you on the appropriateness for the site.

Speaking of which, anything I can help with, @Helios?

@AnnaLear: can I ask for a curiosity?

sure, what's up?

you are a developer for SO, right?

6:46 PM
yes

I've been only in 2 company but I wonder on how behave a company like that
for example they invest on formation?
use agile methodologies?

That varies by company. We don't really use a particular formal methodology beyond "get things done".

also on this I wonder..
I loose a lot of time trying to do things in the best way possible
and learning some nice way to do stuff
but I'm slow..
is there a lot of pressure there?

I don't know what you'd consider to be "a lot". You can't spend forever obsessing over a piece of code, but there's also value in getting things done right.

yes, I agree. But do you use stuff like code metrics or test driven development or privilege flexibility?

6:53 PM
The Careers team writes unit tests. The core Q&A team doesn't.
Not sure what you mean by privilege flexibility.

They dump their builds on us at Meta and hope we don't annoy them too much when it concerns broken stuff @Revious. ;)

for flexibility I mean if the team prefer to use common sense or a more strict formalism
like TDD / unit testing / lot of documentations

Hmm, was it Nick who wrote something about that not that long ago? /me searches

I think it's really good to work for such an interesting company
