If people keep editing and answering it bumps
We agreed here that it most likely is trolling

Meh, it seems to be pretty stable now. There's no harm in that question.

Hmmmmm.....OK

If troll spend their time by posting content that actually is not all that bad for the site ... we win @rene

That's a very positive look ... I agree...

2:06 PM
I'm a positive guy .... well ... no ... no I'm not.
@TimPost Around for some PEW? Or suspend? We have a troll on our hands

LOL

On that mosfet question, the numbers look to be a lot smaller...

I am think of redirecting him to italian.stackexchange.com
and laugh when he start to ask code related question there

Well, we've just gone Turkish with another account @SPArchaeologist

2:10 PM
@Bart PEW PEW
Where?

See the line below it
3 accounts
Trolling in Dutch, Italian and now Turkish

Let's make a note that we start an area51 proposal for trolls similar to spam. Somewhere around winterbash2014...

That site already exists @rene. It's called ExpertSexChange

The tiny part of me that thought the Italian one wasn't a troll has disappeared now there's a Turkish one...

@Bart I have found ways to be even more obnoxious. Watch this.

2:15 PM
/me hovers over flag button location

posts a programming question on Meta in Italian, but with an innocent-sounding English "translation"
clicks and unclicks the favorite button on said post really fast
Eeeek the site chooser gizmo changed again!

Ah goody, let's see what this one will do meta.stackoverflow.com/users/251215/stak-bil-overflow @TimPost Same deal as the other three.

Oooh, are we having a foreign-language turkey shoot?
@Bart Looky over on the right side of the screen, about at the end of the thing with all the pretty pictures in it.

Yeah, not surprised @Undo.

Troll confirmed.

2:22 PM
don't ban him. Put him in a cage and then use him as a offline google translate module

Maybe it is Google Translate, and he has escaped.

Do we really have to keep that question alive?

There is no real problem with that question. Nuke some comments, Pew some accounts, and it should be fair enough to remain.

Comments? Nuke?

Someone is waking up

2:34 PM
"Nuke some comments, Pew some accounts, Edit so that it is in -actual- Italian, and it should be fair enough to remain."

If you can, go ahead

are question like these good for SO? I feel that this one is to much based on opinion

Yeah, opinion-based.

yeah I didn't think it was a good question

2:41 PM
"compare x/y" - too broad
"which one is better" - POB
cv'd

I do not have the rep for that

btw, I have removed the "Thank you" and other noisy noise from the question
ok, answer done as well
reviewers, do your magic.

Who edited my post so badly? Especially, the italian translation was really bad. — Stacco Oltre il Flow baby 1 min ago

hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaahahahahaahahahaha
Yep, needing more "Cioè"
it doesn't sound dialectal enough otherwise.

2:56 PM
Surprisingly accurate English all of a sudden though.

that was my primary objective....
see the reaction
dum da dum trolling the troll
du da d
7 languages....
didn't he said "If I had that posted in English it will sound funny" or similar?
and again asked other to translate the post for him.
@Bart @TimPost burinate the user, keep the post. Or burinate the comments and leave him be for now. Just please do not return to the original question - or at least ask him to remove the "cippa" and other slang stuff.

At this point I'd say "burn the whole lot"

3:16 PM
That is more like it

Actually, he does have the sole point that the translation I gave was not literal. That's only because I would first give a English question and then an Italian version for reference. The Italian version was the actual one, the English a mere rewrite of the intent. NOT a translation.

blabla troll blabla. He's just hiding now behind a mask of good intentions.

I had taken the liberty to edit out that "non si capisce una cippa" - in English it would sound like "it wouldn't understand a sh...." Not the precise meaning, but it could be considered rude/slang.
nothing offensive, just you wouldn't find that in a dictionary
done. Explained all to well and now the case is closed for me.

3:50 PM
he just stopped? didn't expect that.
Anyway, I am going to upvote the question. As a question it can provide some help to others.

Does anyone have a link to that one meta answer that outlines when answers should be deleted?

Which one of them

I think waffles wrote one

@Bart did you remove the comments on the ita site question?

Yep

currently watching: Sochi 2014 olympics opening ceremony

Ooh, that's already on? Hmm.
Sigh, how many accounts does one user need. Two more of them appear.

A wild Account appeared!
Go, @TimPost.
TimPost used BurinateAccounts!
It is super effective!
Wild account fainted.
(sorry, had to do that. Ye know, all of us SharePoint dev are somehow mad.)
Yeppppppp! an excuse for burination!
@TimPost meta.stackoverflow.com/users/251234/… translate the name of this user and then burinate
ummm self flagging....
ok
autoflagged as per meta suggestion
mods should have got a notification

4:41 PM

yes
hoping I did the right thing by autoflagging the post above to call for mod intervention, I followed the suggestion in the meta Flag offensive user name post

I already flagged earlier today as well. So let's see.

hehehe, they show up, but they can't post.
na na na na na na na na spam rammmm

nice to know. I was waiting for them to post to flag the post. Would have been a long wait.
have to go for now see ya.

4:57 PM
Thanks @TimPost :)

5:09 PM
@TimPost I've been meaning to ask you - what happens when a spam rammed user tried to post? Does it fail silently for them? Do they get a "this message is spam, make it look more legit" message?

By the way, how does it look like for a user whose account has been vaporised? Merely "huh... why can't I log in?"

@Undo They get sent to the help center where there's a rather terse explanation

@JanDvorak Pretty much. They try to login and they're in a brand new account

@TimPost Ah, ok.
Linky?

5:21 PM
That URL exists on all sites

Yeah, pretty terse :P

@Undo We don't give them much to go on, just enough that if you are a legit user .. well, browse from somewhere else.

or use Tor
:P

That doesn't work for very long ;)

Well, if you're legit it should :P

5:25 PM
@TimPost very nice. \me likes that.

There's even more improvements going out, I found a bunch of little nooks where this stuff can be better identified before even getting into the system based on behavior.

I wanna work on the spam ram now ;(

It's a pretty cool system. We needed it, that's for sure.

plz send teh codez

@TimPost I tried out that PHPDesigner but it doesn't have an option to connect via FTPS. :( Maybe it's a sign that I should look into my FTP server and figure out how it works so I can get real SFTP working...

5:28 PM
@animuson It does, you can use SFTP with a public key

My server accepts SFTP connections with a fresh install..

(just go over SSH)

@TimPost FTPS != SFTP, right?

SFTP is like file trasnfer over SSH

Yeah, just go over SSH. It's easier.

5:29 PM
I use SFTP all the time.

FTPS is FTP with SSL like HTTPS vs. HTTP

\me lowers the sensitivity of his own spam filter

I use MySQL over SSH, even

I only use FTP(S) when using accounts that can't be allowed SSH access..

@animuson It's a pretty neat little IDE though, especially considering it's a one person effort. Despite its quirks it's a bit of a joy to use once you get it set up as you like it (completion and auto documentation can get in your way and such)
I bound my left ctrl key to doc lookup, if I want to see how something works, and completion to tab with an indication of when it's available.

5:31 PM
I generally don't use those features. In fact, I always hated Dreamweaver's PHP syntax checking because when it popped up the bar at the top it physically moved all your code down one line. So if you were in the middle of highlighting something, all of a sudden you've highlighted an extra line.
Hrm what weird port did I set my SSH to use?

@animuson Heh. Aren't ports fun?
Just SSH and look at the SSH confi... uhmm...

Well it kept giving me socket errors and then I realized "oh, right. I changed the number to 'be more secure'..."

5:50 PM
I just watched my mom fiddle with my phone for a good 2 minutes trying to figure out how to turn the screen on.
(PS, saying "helloooo" to it over and over does not work.)

6:32 PM
Gah, how can we inform/tell users to not send other users away to different sites (within or outside the network) when their questions are perfectly on topic for the site they're at?
I keep having to leave more and more comments like that

6:56 PM
You're the one with the smiting stick...

7:17 PM
@TimPost can you see if this user and this user is our earlier troll now asking this kind of questions

someone knows where is the feature request to make reviewing suggested edits to questions/answers easier to distinguish

Oh no, I answered a question on SO. :o

:O
@animuson But moderators aren't supposed to contribute positively to the community!

I ended up there via a flag.
And started reading through the question, then spent 10 minutes writing an answer of my own, and never handled the flag.

@animuson is breaking #2!
Heh, just about all of them are breaking #2.
We should replace them.

7:30 PM
Off with their heads!

REVOLUTION!

Maybe that's how Shog became a floating head...

There, that one's better.

1 hour later…
8:56 PM
Why's it say I'm a beta user?

Didn't you join the beta?

Yeah... it doesn't say that for SR though.

@hichris123 because you're good, but not quite ready for release.

@Bart Mm... beta hichris123... seems a little weird.

You have to have been committed before it went to beta, I believe.
Because then you're "fulfilling your commitment" versus just participating in a beta.

9:00 PM
Ah, that makes sense.

I believe even if you don't join the beta, it still shows up in that list, just without the "beta user" thing. Because it was still a commitment, you just didn't follow through with it.

@animuson Nope. I show up on that list as a beta user on SR, and I never ever committed to it.

It doesn't show up for me...

@animuson Have you posted anything on main?

Just comments, and lots and lots of downvotes. ;P

9:03 PM
Maybe it's if you have 200+ rep?

I have a 1:33 upvote:downvote ratio.
SWAG! tears open box like I've never received a present before in my life

Dangit. Everybody gets swag

9:18 PM
You got a plank with a hole? I've always wanted a plank with a hole.

It's called cornhole.
You try to throw the beanbags into the hole.
Cornhole, also known as bean bag toss, corn toss, baggo or bags, is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches the score of 21. Rules Equipment and court layout Cornhole matches are played with two sets of bags and two platforms. There are four bags to a set. Each set should be identifiable from the other; different colors work well. Bags should weigh 15 to 16 ounces and measure roughly 6" by 6...

Ha, can't say they are unoriginal.

> Anyone want to play some Cornhole? You can try to get a Woody...

wtf

9:44 PM
@animuson Ooooh swagz!
That beenbag thingy looks neat.

I should track down all the swag I have

All my swag is in one place.
Except the USB drive, which is in a special USB-drive spot.

That's called a port

No, it's on my desk. In a pile of other USB drives.
Next to the spot where I keep all my Ubuntu disks.

USB-hub?

9:48 PM
No. A pile.
They aren't hooked up to anything :P

What kind of pile

how do you people get all of this stuff?! :O

@DoorknobofSnow By drawing pictures of unicorns getting ready to impale people asking programming questions on Meta, I guess.
@3ventic A pile. As in a pile of rocks.

Nah, did that @Undo. They were returned to sender.

hmm

9:50 PM
@Bart You have to draw them at the right time ;P

I have the cables going from the motherboard to the start and restart buttons going outside the case..

@Undo done, what next?

Hmmm I think this is everything.

@DoorknobofSnow Wait for Tim Post to make another contest.

@Undo :P

oh ya, that one @hichris

@animuson Business cards?

Moderator business cards.

9:57 PM
@animuson wait, what is that?

@jcolebrand That's all the swag I've collected over the years.

@animuson oh, wow, if I tried to find it all ..
I've got ~100 stickers currently on my desk for giving out to folks, from four SE properties
plus stickers on my own stuff, plus my hat, plus my shirt that's falling apart
plus the two boxes of biz cards at the house
but you do have a few things I don't have :-(
:p

I only have the stickers they gave us from participating in the annual surveys.

@animuson :D I asked for some for giving out ... just bug whoever's head of the CM team these days via email

Bart's glasses are on that one sticker!

10:00 PM
I offered an SASE but they just mailed me a thick stack

@Undo That's not a sticker. It's a Nerd Merit Badge.

Oh, neat.

I see a dozen things I need to buy ... nerdmeritbadges.com

I want.

I was going to buy a few more but at $6 a pop I felt my money was better spent elsewhere.

10:04 PM
@animuson yeah, that's got me hesitating, but I still see a trend worth supporting

Eeek! 117k in CV queue.

Eeek!

Come on bounty! :P

I want to be able to give close-reviewing ability to hichris for a day :P

@Undo But it wouldn't help, we would share the same amount of reviews/votes a day.

10:06 PM
@Undo s/ a day/ever/

Hmmm
Maybe I should go on a mission to try and review 1,000 Close Votes items in a day.
We all know I can review 1,000 flags in a day... :P

@hichris123 Yes, but you would use them :P
@animuson Yes. And you have a binding vote, too...
Bill can handle the flag queue for a week!

@Undo You don't? glares

@hichris123 Not every day :P

@animuson If you don't, I will (is it server side @Undo?).

10:11 PM
eh? Is what?
Everything's server-side.
Even review limits.

Aww.

TL is completely server-side validated :P
I can't even post 'sandwiches' to it :P

@Undo well of course it is

I'm sure the folks there would like some sandwiches.

this is all asp.net, that's all out of the box if you do it right

10:12 PM
@jcolebrand Yeah, of course.

Q: Should we be allowed to use animated GIFs on posts?

The WobbuffetI was viewing a question I posted on softwarerecs.SE (in private beta), and I noticed this very distracting answer (this one). It demonstrated what the poster was basically saying, but I guess an animated GIF was part of their strategic answering. For those who aren't in the private beta, this ...

@TheWobbuffet ...why did you just post and then immediately delete your post
(and then post it here...?)

... that went quickly

Cause it got lots o' downvotes
Nobody agrees

But I found another bug :)

10:28 PM
You weren't interested in the reasons why?

But not posting it, because it was temporary...
Gtg

...why would you post it if you weren't even interested in the actual topic @TheWobbuffet

We could undelete it ... ;)

@Bart ok :P voted

10:30 PM
haha, I'll let @TheWobbuffet have his was for now. Shame though. He has plenty of rep to wait the votes and reasoning out.
This Jack Atwood is serious about his participation meta.stackoverflow.com/users?tab=NewUsers&sort=creationdate 3 new accounts.

@TimPost can you see if this user and this user is our earlier troll now asking this kind of questions

It is

I thought so...

10:40 PM
And they're gone except for the main one.
So I'm guessing he still has 3 accounts left at the moment

Those accounts either hibernate or get nuked once used I guess?

very quiet

what size should my logo be?

Question for you people: should code languages be backticked? (I hate it personally but not sure if other people think it's okay...)

10:49 PM
@Bart Yep.

No, that's smiting stick material

@Bart I've noticed that you're remarkably interested in smiting sticks

@DoorknobofSnow if you are debating the size here I assume you already have a logo?

@rene no, but I'm going to make one

JaydlesIt occurred to us that it didn't really make sense that you could participate in a private beta if you committed on Area 51 anytime up to the launch of the private beta, but not once it started. We still want private betas to be limited to users who are actively interested in building a site (vs...

It's really annoying when this happens on some comments to a question:

somehow my phone just vibrated and told me I've taken 5000 steps today so far, even though I'm sitting down right now.

*2* ....what is your question?
*2* Maybe show some code? Ask a question? Anything?
*4* I guess the answer is... 42!
*0* As it stands, it is impossible to answer this question. At the very least, you should actually ask a question. Preferably post some code, too, including Palm class, the A class, and the class in which you are getting the error. I would suggest reading How do I ask a good question? and How to create a Minimal, Complete, Tested and Readable example.

At the very least one of those would get a flag from me
But still annoying, yes

10:57 PM

@Undo So why do you buy Sublime if it's free?

@hichris123 Because you're supposed to.
And the people that made it did an awesome job.

@DoorknobofSnow in the modern age of render engines and powerfull graphic accelerators you could create a vector graphic and leave the scaling to the device...

@Undo ?

Ah well, I still flagged that last comment @ryan. That user is a real ..... ah, nevermind (jk, found the 42 one particularly annoying)

10:59 PM
@hichris123 Technically it's an unlimited trial. Not a really free app.

@rene well, it is a vector graphic of course, but I need a ratio of length:width

Ohhhh

@Undo So.... you buy it if you're nice? :P
