@starball congrats for feeding Smokey! :D
BTW, no need to delete your answer in sandbox, better even leave it for future tests. Well at least that's how I use it. ;)
@JourneymanGeek and? Was I wrong or right? (or left? ;))
@JourneymanGeek ohh, the spammer. Does it matter though?
@starball yeah, 99% of "bad keyword in body" are false positives. This is against statistics claiming 94% are true positives (hence the weight), but that's just reality so I don't really care for stats.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars whoa are you a detective? how'd you notice I deleted it?

ohhh, think I got it. When combined with other triggers it's really 90% tp, but when ONLY "bad keyword" it's the opposite: usually false, very rarely tp. /cc @Mith (this finally explains the difference between stats and reality.)

@ShadowWizardChasingStars yay! *throws confetti everywhere

@starball umm, 10k rep? ;)
@starball k

@ShadowWizardChasingStars oh yeah. I forgot that was a thing

9:15 AM
@starball you might have it one day too. :D
@starball careful, people might think someone has birthday and bring cakes! :P

I don't have my sights set on it at the moment xD feels so far away.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars "let us eat cakes!" -Mary Antoinette or something
goodnight folks :)
(for me)

@starball close, Dylan McManus. :-D
!!/cake SPA

@ShadowWizardChasingStars No such command 'cake'.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars would be far more interested in game designer.
As in, the ones who plan out a new game plot.

9:19 AM
@SPArcheon yeah, I can understand that. Are you looking for such a job then?

9:29 AM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Yes
Its whether I suspend or delete :D
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Well the deletion was me :D

@JourneymanGeek huh! Good point.
@JourneymanGeek figured as much. But can't see exact timestamp of chat message, so impossible to verify what I said anyway. lol

@ShadowWizardChasingStars also, other than the link, its harder to make a 'standard' regex for those
since the text is generated on the fly

@JourneymanGeek you mean ChatGPT?
Read about new tool to detect it yesterday.
It check the sentences for "unexpected words" or something like that.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars to be really honest
after a while, it has its own 'voice' like any other user
I just run the tool to confirm it

@ShadowWizardChasingStars nope, don't have much hope since I doubt there is anything noteworthy nearby.
Furthermore those usually require experience and specific degrees in fields that again are utterly non-represented in any university nearby.
A degree in informatics does not open you many doors in game design related works.
Kinda funny in a way. I can understand the idea that game design requires a specific field of study... but it would probably be far more important to look for people who love games in the first place.
Even if you are viewed as an expert, if you hate your game or see it as a tool of revenge, only trash will come of it
something something [redacted] Cross ....

9:42 AM
@SPArcheon sadly that appears to be the case with many games...

@starball "The people have no bread!" "Then they lack pain in their lives!"

12:43 PM
"Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", said to have been spoken in the 17th or 18th century by "a great princess" upon being told that the peasants had no bread. The French phrase mentions brioche, a bread enriched with butter and eggs, considered a luxury food. The quote is taken to reflect either the princess's frivolous disregard for the starving peasants or her poor understanding of their plight. While the phrase is commonly attributed to Marie Antoinette, there are references to it prior to the French Revolution, and historians...
I have checked, there is no mention of that in The Roses of Versailles...
and that has to be historical accurate right?

@SPArcheon I can tell you it's not accurate. Skulls that allow for such eye/face-shape have never been found.

@SPArcheon when AI writes history, sure. And Tink is correct, that's not one of the good drawings.

Also the lady's face is probably lacking a copious layer of white, leaded, face-paint.

Yup, this one is seen instantly as poorly created by AI, or alternate way by a 3 y/o kid messing around with Paint.

@Tinkeringbell I hoped you would fall for that mistake just for the fun of asking you this....
Which of the TWO ladies are you talking about?

12:54 PM
The one in the dress.
I don't think facepaint goes with the other costume, but I may be wrong.

@Tinkeringbell well the other one has female eyes, question if that's enough to define it as "female"?
The AI just pasted female eyes on male face. haha funny.

@Tinkeringbell was a rhetoric question, I meant that both are "ladies" :P
@ShadowWizardChasingStars you are kinda digging your own grave there you know...

@SPArcheon no? That's just bad. lol

@SPArcheon Well, unless they were both male, I don't see how referring to one of the pair as 'the lady' is wrong.

Now you'll bring something better, as always, I know, but that won't fix the bad ones. @SPA

12:56 PM
The Rose of Versailles (Japanese: ベルサイユのばら, Hepburn: Berusaiyu no Bara), also known as Lady Oscar and La Rose de Versailles, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda. It was originally serialized in the manga magazine Margaret from 1972 to 1973, while a revival of the series was published in the magazine from 2013 to 2018. The series is a historical drama set in the years preceding and during the French Revolution. Using a combination of historical personages and original characters, The Rose of Versailles focuses primarily on the lives of two women: the Queen of France...
@ShadowWizardChasingStars nope, I will only let you know that the "poor AI" is actually a screenshot from the early '80 version of Rose of Versailles...

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Nah. Just Japanese stuff.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars you are REALLY digging your grave there, I suggest an edit because someone could easily report that one, especially if they know the original material.

See the link from SPA

@SPArcheon oh. So they really didn't put any money on graphic designer, giving the job to their kids. lol
Copy and pasting body parts in random places.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars you should really go and see the level of graphics animation had in the '80...

12:59 PM
@SPArcheon I'll pass if that's the level. My eyes suffered enough. :D

Anyway, I also suggest you re-read my comment and Tinkeringbell follow up.

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Wanna switch? My eyes are okay-ish, it's my ears that suffer :P

@Tinkeringbell hmm? Is there some new hidden feature that attach sound to static images that I missed?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Nah, the ears are suffering because of stuff not in this room :)

@Tinkeringbell oh, IRL always getting in the way of Tavern, bummer. :D

1:10 PM
Yeah, the upstairs neighbors haven't really been quiet for days now, lots of stomping around and dragging things across the floor, including today when I'm trying to work. Turned on AGDQ as background noise to drown it out, but had to turn that off because there was this really annoying voice just now. I'm now playing piano music.... again.

@SPArcheon to be fair - quite a lot of the reason 80s animation was bad was cause it was done to a budget
@ShadowWizardChasingStars ehh, about that chat-thing I just deleted. I'm gonna assume you didn't know better and don't expect that again.
@Tinkeringbell You need good, comfy headphones. Or...

@JourneymanGeek I have good comfy headphones, but I don't really want to wear them all day :)
I don't think annoying neighbors are really an excuse to be annoying yourself too. It's much easier to claim moral high ground if you're the one that's been doing everything right ;)

@Tinkeringbell upstairs? Didn't hear about those neighbors until today, only about the smoker living in the house next to yours. So you have more annoying neighbors, that's pity. :(
Well you can work from office, no annoying neighbors around. ;)
How many floors are in your building?

@ShadowWizardChasingStars The upstairs ones are selling their apartment. I did think I mentioned them, but usually I only really heard them when I went to bed: I went to bed at 10pm and she used to walk around the living room at around 10:15, which means I would hear her stomping around.
Lately I don't know what they're doing, but it was like someone rolling a vacuum cleaner across the floor all day yesterday and again today.
@ShadowWizardChasingStars There's 3 floors, but the upstairs apartment has two floors.

@Tinkeringbell sounds like exactly that, if they're leaving, they leave it clean and shiny.

1:21 PM
So only two layers of apartments
@ShadowWizardChasingStars They haven't even sold the place yet.

So now you have to pray for decent new neighbors to arrive upstairs...
@Tinkeringbell well, better early than late.
No point delaying the "deep cleaning", in case they found a new place to move to.

I doubt praying will help. I have considered getting something to measure decibels, and see if the noise I hear is likely to break any legal norms. If it does, it's likely they have installed their floor 'wrong', so without adequate noise cancelling materials underneath it.
If it does, I can request an investigation with professional equipment according to the owner's association rules.

@Tinkeringbell doubt police will arrive with sirens flashing for few decibels above the legal allowed level... ;)

@ShadowWizardChasingStars Not the police...

@Tinkeringbell oh, but would it be worth the hassle and money?

1:26 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars At this point, probably yes.
If the new neighbors are going to be more active, even more so.

@DavidPostill hehe, most reviews are negative, and the positive reviews look fake, i.e. written by people hired by the developers. But meh, as long as it's free, worth to try, I guess.

Yeah, using one of those might be a good first step. I did find the two I used to seem rather inaccurate though.
They gave wildly different values for the same constant noise (heat pump running).. or maybe my phone's microphone isn't all that good anymore, it's an old device already :)

Yeah the phone was never meant to be noise detector, lol
Trying to use things in a different way they are supposed to be used might work, but rarely accurate.

1:48 PM
@JourneymanGeek true, still makes the claims about that kinda undeserved. Also, it would be quite untrue claiming that the style of Rose of Versailles wasn't quite deliberate, despite all the technical limitations.

@SmokeDetector gone even with skeptical mods on the site
@Feeds no way to ever have proper onebox for blog.
Something must be wrong: missing onebox altogether, wrong author, or like in this case, missing image.

@Feeds Oh boy I've used Mercurial...

3:21 PM
@Spevacus I used SVN

we still use svn for a few things... i need to end that

I did use SVN from VS. It's... locking 🙃

Nothing I actually touch on a daily basis, but they still ask for support from time to time

Wow. meta.stackexchange.com/a/385663/622284 A ChatGPT answer on Meta?

@Spevacus not the first, not the last, and flagged on spot.
ChatGPT trolls are so annoying.
At least I keep seeing them being suspended on MSE, which is good. Bet on other sites they roam free.

This is my first time seeing one on Meta. I did a mod flag and it's gone now.

@Spevacus you don't spend enough time on MSE then, there were many, especially on ChatGPT related posts.
:D
Gone but author still free to post more, let's hope we won't see them again though.

It's gone, I asked Geek if he has a moment to suspend as I'm on mobile and don't have a template at the ready. Otherwise I'll handle that later ;)

4:17 PM
@ShadowWizardChasingStars Oh I deliberately ignored those as I had definitely already made up my mind as to the usefulness of ChatGPT on this platform. The only thing I really looked out for was an official response from SE to the big network-wide-ban proposal.

AI listed under "skills", so might be fooling around with it.

Well, I did also read the ones where folks asked ChatGPT if it could be trusted and received humorous responses.

@Tinkeringbell Thanks :)

@Spevacus Devil advocate: why human made content that does not attempt to answer the original question should be only downvoted and can't be flagged as "not an answer" (because apparently an answer to another question is still an answer) while AI generated content should be removed?
Why do humans users get the liberty of posting bad content that rivals with ChatGPT?

Because the AI doesn't have feelings

Angel's advocate: Because the human user had the decency (or rather, the bot user didn't have the decency) to write the answer themselves.

So many comments have been made about chatgpt calling it's output "garbage". Such comments describing output from actual users would easily be considered r/a
yet... it is actual users posting said answers most, if not all, of the time

@KevinB also true

It's often more a measure of intent. Answerers posting garbage for reputation, vs genuinely trying to help and just being bad at it, are two different things even though their output may look similar

5:08 PM
@KevinB but it's calling of the ChatGPT output garbage and not of the user who posted it garbage, no?

is there a difference?

yes. The same kind of difference as in "hate the sin and not the sinner"
after all, the user who posted it didn't write it themselves.

let me backtrack there, i misread. "but it's calling of the ChatGPT output garbage and not of the user who posted it garbage, no?"

people do (IIRC) call users who post ChatGPT-generated content lazy
ah ok

correct, in both cases
most of these comments is calling the output garbage
which is what i'm referring to

5:10 PM
to be fair, I was thinking of this old issue we still have.

Q: Your answer is in another castle Part 2: can we stop the confusion about NAA flags and posts that tackle a different question from the one posted?

SPArcheonDISCLAIMER: This is not yet another post trying to discuss what NAA posts are and / or answers to different questions are NAA. What this post is trying to do is to find a way to stop people for having to discuss that in the first place. This post is meant to be a follow up on Shog9 original "Y...

it's certainly rude to leave a comment informing someone that the content they're generating is garbage, there's more constructive ways of expressing that
but when the user is doing so by copy pasting from an AI prompt... they're banned for 7 days and there's no real concern for calling that content garbage
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The reason there's no concern is the reason there's a difference in how this is being handled
NAA is an odd one IMO
it's a flag type that only gets handled by mods, and mods aren't the best group to be handling those kinds of problems
if it's an answer that doesn't answer the question asked, that's an answer that needs downvotes/delete votes, the community can do that
but we have no tool to put such answers in front of people looking for such answers to evaluate
we instead rely on future visitors to actually cast downvotes when something is incorrect... but most of them don't even have an account

@KevinB If someone keeps posting answers to different question in hope to get votes (because one single pity upvotes offsets multiple downvote) they should start getting their question flagged and removed since that is a much faster way to get the mods and the ban hammer fall on them.
When for example you ask about how to beat a boss in a game in a specific version that is different from the other consoles releases, it is pretty annoying if someone answers and even gets to start their useless post with "I know this does not answer the question but I am posting it anyway"
If you have something that does not answer MY question, go post that on a post YOU posted.
You can do a self answered question if you want.
Trying to hijack MY post with your unrelated attempt to get votes for something I didn't asked.... why should that not be rude?

5:30 PM
Because what you are looking for may not be what the people who most often find the post are looking for
If people find that answer useful... why should it matter?

@KevinB :O really? My (zero-facts-to-back-it-up) understanding was that the flags when to the low quality answers queue.

I'm not entirely sure what all ends up in the review queues, tbh, I don't use them due to the audit system.
my expectation would be low quality flags show up in the low quality review queue, and NAA flags don't

@KevinB because that is the post someone else made, and it should be basic respect to post something that helps them, not someone else. And again, it is not like the poster can't create a separate question themselves to post their unrelated answer.
I see that very frequently on SharePoint for example.

if people who find the question are finding it useful... it's at least somewhat related.

@KevinB it generates confusion, bad tagging, idiots that try to retrofit the question to make it more generic in order to fit the unrelated answer etc.

5:39 PM
Isn't that the normal process of creating a useful knowledgebase?

Again - another example. If someone ask how to customize a form on SharePoint Online with Power Automate it is unrelated to explain ON THAT QUESTION how to use Infopath instead. You. Can. Not. Do. That. On. SharePoint. Online.
So, if you want to explain how to do that on a previous version of sharepoint, write a similar post - TAG IT WITH THE CORRECT VERSION - and answer it yourself.
I will then gladly upvote it.

If people visit the question looking for a sharepoint online answer, surely they won't upvote that answer, right?
because it wouldn't work.

@KevinB you think?

Why should we expect mods to be able to understand that it won't work?
If the mod is to just take the flagger's word that it isn't relevant, can't we just skip the middleman?

@KevinB basic 1+1, I am not about judging correctness. But if the question states "I can't use Infopath" then answers about infopath are not relevant on that post.
still, it keeps happening on SharePoint and on SO

5:43 PM
that's a very specific example

@KevinB not really. It is just "If I said I can't do X, don't post answers that explain how to do X on that post"

Highly popular questions have a different problem in taht they routinely attract new answers that just water down the actually useful ones
Answers that wouldn't cause any harm existing on a low traffic question actually do cause a problem on such highly-popular ones

The correct answer is to reject NAA flags in this case. Mods are not subject matter experts (usually). The SMEs should downvote the NAAs or cast delete votes.
