@ShadowTheKidWizard sorta

2:56 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog iirc having your username the same as your website is allowed. So unless I'm missing something in the answer I'm not sure why its spam

@Ethan Some users post plagiarized or low-quality posts to attract attention to their user profiles.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Ah. Guessing you custom flaged

3:13 AM

2 hours later…
5:39 AM
^ the last two of those are still up

double bonk

5:53 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard additional context re: the Jose spam: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/400812
that one is still up FWIW

6:28 AM
@bobble In that case, I would lean to making a new feature request on puzzling meta for the wider range of changes... but perhaps you can find a chatroom on puzzling/a mod there that also has an opinion? I haven't been around that site :)

2 hours later…
9:01 AM
@Mithical bonk bonk? What's that?
@DialFrost sorta what? Wrong message replied to?
@Ethan this is when you post crap on purpose just to have links to spam profile.
It became very common method of spammers lately.
@Feeds very nice graphics, kudos!
@tripleee not anymore, and cheers for being stubborn with me, guess you're correct. I'll flag in the future. :)
wonder how we don't get tons of fp's for that.

9:39 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard Happy now?
Now you can annoy the bot owner.
!!/hats

@SPArcheon No such command 'hats'.

could it be construed as suspicious behaviour for user A to offer 4 bounties on user B's questions, and it one case awarding user B said bounty?

@SPArcheon meh, no way they'll add it back.
@WhatsThePoint yup. Custom flag, point to the other bounties.
hmm
Is this a gesture for pride flag?
Or just colorful design?
@SPA you remember when they started calling it summer bash?
Anyway, the writing is almost unreadable for me, it's kind of hand writing, which only those actually using it can read easily.
(letters are combined.)

no chicken nor egg?

@ShadowTheKidWizard thanks, have flagged it now

9:51 AM
@MetaAndrewT. too early, but probably there will be.
@WhatsThePoint cheers!

perhaps AI-illustrated chicken...

@MetaAndrewT. custom made and cooked

10:09 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard any time (-:
@ShadowTheKidWizard it does get a fair amount of FPs but on balance it's still useful

@ShadowTheKidWizard Colors are in the 'wrong' order for a pride flag, so if it is one it's a very cowardly one :P
In a 'we can always claim it both is and isn't, depending on public reactions' way :P

10:57 AM
!!/hats

@MetaAndrewT. No such command 'hats'.

@ShadowTheKidWizard twas a common rant/troll/joke/request for years, until it was finally done in 21, putting an end to the usual "it is not winter here" posts.
@Tinkeringbell "Your character can wear any outfit without gender restriction in the new game. So freedom, much liberty, so expressive! Oh, btw, the male and female player character now use the same model and you can only wear school uniforms with pants."
.... I will wait for a Pokemon game with a Scottish theme where the male main character will wear a kilt.

@Tinkeringbell might be! lol
Anyone remember what was the previous icon? Same?
@SPArcheon so to match all possible seasons they should call it Winter Summer Spring Autumn Bash. (not kidding, people will now complain it's spring in their place, and will get offended that SE don't care for them.)

11:13 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard Just call it "Staff Bash" then, because the sentiment seems to be that...

@SPArcheon nah

also, since you like coincidences on movie names...
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (Korean: 봄 여름 가을 겨울 그리고 봄) is a 2003 South Korean film directed by Kim Ki-duk about a Buddhist monastery that floats on a lake in a pristine forest. The story is about the life of a Buddhist monk as he passes through the seasons of his life, from childhood to old age. The film stars O Yeong-su, Kim Young-min, Seo Jae-kyung and Yeo-jin Ha. The director himself appears as the man in the last stage of life. The film was released in the United States in 2004 by Sony Pictures Classics, in subtitle format. == Synopsis == The film is divided into five segments...

lol
No coincidences, it's a known fact that these days, there's already existing movie/song/book title for anything one can think of.
@tripleee fair.

@ShadowTheKidWizard and not every one is worth watching.
And some probably were made under the influence of some mushroom.
See "Jolly Roger", that I think someone here even mentioned before.

@SPArcheon duh, I'd even say "Most of them are not worth watching".
@SPArcheon Shog
Aug 15, 2011 at 16:26, by Shog9
@EvanCarroll The ship was boarded, the crew killed, the Jolly Roger raised, and a long career of murder and mayhem begun. The blood of martyrs that once stained those decks has been obliterated by that of the many victims broken on it since. You would cling to this ship for the symbolism it once held, ignoring the charnel that surrounds you?!
huh, my inbox count just went down from 72 to 71.
Meaning a comment was deleted.
I wonder how far I can reach before resetting it by mistake.
(then I can get it back only to 50)
hmm oh wait
I have idea how to make it much much bigger.
evil smile
looking that balpha isn't around

11:28 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard You realize that @Yaakov added a feature to unread the messages?
I don't know WHY you would want to do that but... you can click an open message to mark it as unread again.

@SPArcheon yes but it can be done only in the per-site inbox, which has 50 items.
Can't mark as unread from the global inbox on se.com showing all the items.

@ShadowTheKidWizard I bet that if you twist the api a little...

@SPArcheon click the envelope only, clicking the message itself will take me to the relevant post/comment/chat.
@SPArcheon great mind think alike! Well, what I have in mind is just send the AJAX requests manually, probably using a script.

@ShadowTheKidWizard we will miss you.

hmm wait it requires "relevant post id". ... .... .... oh well I'll try scraping se.com inbox.
@SPArcheon like the desert miss the rain?

11:33 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard you know that they actually have a tale about why the desert is so desert?

@SPArcheon nope. Enlighten me.
Eating a dessert in the desert is a thing though.

@ShadowTheKidWizard Something about god saying that they would drop a grain of sand on the garden that was there before every time someone would act bad. But I only heard that by chance once in a documentary, you should ask someone else

@SPArcheon asking @M.A.R. about the story

Also, very possible that it was made up by the people making the documentary in the first place.

@SPArcheon indeed. I won't say it's silly, but also not something actual wise people would come up with.
People do so many bad things, that it makes sense.

11:44 AM
@ShadowTheKidWizard I meant I cast the last flag on both of the spam posts

@Mithical huh. Show off! :D

12:03 PM
still up 1 2 3 4

12:56 PM
@tripleee 1 and 2 are not spam, 3 already gone, 4 poofed now.
Strange, spammer has account for 8 months on MSE. (inactive)

1:23 PM
@JNat cross site spammer for you. :)

@ShadowTheKidWizard 1 has recent spam by the same user; that's how it was brought up now
2 similarly documented affiliation via profile etc but gone already now anyway
I can add metasmoke links to these if you like going forward; that would often provide more context, but then my impression was that people here thought metasmoke was cumbersome and weird

it is, but it's useful

@SPArcheon Wasn't Sword/Shield already kinda themed on that area?

1:56 PM
@tripleee it's long time user with gold badge. Moderator saw the answer and did not find it spam. I can't see any proof it's spam i.e. user promoting own product. Sorry, this one won't pass me, but feel free to flag.
(will be declined most likely.)
Don't remember what was 2, but yeah, gone now.
Also, even if long time user with high rep and badges post spam, it does not automatically make all their other posts to become spam.
Accounts can be hacked and/or sold to spammers.

2:14 PM
In one of the questions OP used this image after being asked about the bug which was looking rude to the person who asked where is the bug so I edited it with this image. I hope it is allowed as the images are still almost same

FWIW this was the DIY one ("2"): metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/400819
and here is context for #1 metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/400813

@JitendraSingh yeah, I would have flagged the post as offensive, but guess that's better to just edit.

@ShadowTheKidWizard ^^
actually just a test for meta.stackexchange.com/a/384297/169312

@tripleee hmm yeah the comment does explain, if I would see it before I would have flagged. But without such proof, no way to know it's spam.
@tripleee umm that's a different user. It just proves someone spammed that site.

I'll be sure to include metasmoke links going forward then; it's a bit of a drag as long as I mostly post the messages here manually but arguably worth the hassle

2:24 PM
Again, even if someone spams a site, it can't possibly make all other links to that site become spam.
@tripleee your call. And needed only in edge cases, usually it's clear spam.

@ShadowTheKidWizard it's really tricky; the answer was posted by a different user but our spammer somehow managed to get approval for a suggested edit which added the spam link

@tripleee where?
Are those sock accounts?
@tripleee replied, not a bug and not related to chat.
Top answer already asking to bring back the old behavior, where opening the inbox will mark all as read.

I can't see security.stackexchange.com/posts/266706/timeline so no longer able to completely retrace
@ShadowTheKidWizard that's different, I just don't want to have to click twice for each chat message I'm notified about

@tripleee still, different user. And the real spammer is nuked. And hopefully the two who approved got permanent review ban.
People who approve spam should really not review. They only cause harm.
And I still can't see how all of this proves the old time user is a spammer.

no, that part is right, I got confused because the spam domain looked so similar to the original
the post is fine after a high-rep user rolled back the spam edit

2:35 PM
@tripleee why twice? Clicking the inbox item once should both take you to the chat message and mark it as read.

@ShadowTheKidWizard I basically never want that; I already have the chat open in a separate tab

@tripleee oh, so you're one of many who wants the previous behavior where just opening the inbox will mark it as read.

right now there is a notification balloon in this window on top of my avatar
that balloon is now gone

@tripleee it was mod using special and pretty recent power to override the approval, it's as if the edit was never approved.

but the inbox notif would stay even though the message it notifies me about is no longer unread by any definition

2:37 PM
@tripleee yup. That's the new behavior.
Items no longer being marked as read automatically.

I'll clarify the bug report - thanks for prodding

You can trick the system by opening your inbox from within chat, then it will mark all as read like before, because they didn't apply the new inbox in chat yet.
Someone reported this as a bug ^
!!/coffee trip

@ShadowTheKidWizard brews a cup of ristretto for @trip

!!/tea Spe

@ShadowTheKidWizard brews a cup of lemon tea for @Spe

2:41 PM
!!/water @Luuk

@ShadowTheKidWizard No such command 'water'.
:9362767 No such command 'water'.

:(
hmm Smokey used to ignore commands with pings.

we had a rather generous amount of these joke commands but it got out of hand when a lot of people started clogging our Github with PRs for new jokes
perhaps we should create a clone account Jokey which only has joke commands

@tripleee yeah, that's actually fair. :)
...
So maybe have "sd" refer to the last message which is a report? ;)

3 hours later…
5:46 PM
Everyone who lives in the USA stay safe, I just read that robots there will start killing people soon.
They'll add guns and explosives to the above, and send it to kill those who they find worthy to kill.
Any policeman will become judge, jury, and executioner. While good to reduce crime, I'm 1000% certain they'll kill innocents, both for fun (it's no secret there are psycho policemen) and by mistake.
!!/undo killer bots

@ShadowTheKidWizard No such command 'undo'.

6:44 PM
i mean
that's pretty similar to removing crime by ignoring it

@ShadowTheKidWizard it's just allegorical

@M.A.R. alleg what? Like allergy?

7:07 PM
@ShadowTheKidWizard suddendly WAG
@ShadowTheKidWizard why do people send cross-site spammer profiles specifically to JNat here?

@ShadowTheKidWizard I mean, in the USA they also already added guns and explosives to cops, and use it against those who they think are unworthy of life :P
It's not like the robot suddenly makes USA police lots more unsafe XD

@starball JNat is able to delete all the cross-site profiles in 1 go. Mods can only delete them on sites they moderate.

@DavidPostill is there a specific reason why JNat and not other staff?

@starball He volunteered and seems to enjoy doing it for us.

7:22 PM
(they)
2

I see. JNat is they/them right? o- mith beat me to it
Thank you for your service, JNat!

@Mithical oops :/

7:58 PM
@DavidPostill Takes some getting used to, you're not the only one XD

@Tinkeringbell Is it a recent change then?

For some measure of recent :)
It's been like that for at least 6 months or maybe even a year, I don't keep track... Then again it doesn't come up that often :)

Searching for "They" returns zero results, so it's impossible for me to backtrack. Weird. Might make a bug report tomorrow.

...you don't need to backtrack, it's kinda weird to care about exactly when someone made that change public. What matters is what's stated now.

8:47 PM
Well, I was asked, didn't know the exact answer, so I look before an exact answer before giving a vague one based on fuzzy recollections. That's not weird, that's how answering a question works.
What's weird is the bug :)

hmm

If you want to tell someone off, go focus on the person that asked, not the one that tried to answer.

why not both

*waves stick in the air* I'LL TELL EVERYONE OFF!
It's not about telling anyone in particular off, I'm just saying it's unnecessary to worry about it, and perhaps a slight invasion of privacy to go digging into something personal like that.

it's almost as if simply making the correction started off a wholly unnecessary discussion

8:51 PM
Nope.

Apparently not.
