@JiminyCricket.: Interesting, this very topic was debated in early American history, the problem of mob rule. How do you suppose they addressed it? — Marxos Jun 19 at 18:41
I always enjoy these posts, they're a guilty pleasure of mine
05:35
@bobble: Ultimately both, a proper voting model should be able to do away with all such "moderation". For example, people could "spend" their reputation if they wanted more power than the up/down vote. — Marxos Jun 19 at 18:17
Ah yes, do away with rep-based moderation by replacing it with checks notes rep-based moderation.
Personally I think that question should not have been closed as opinion-based.
That's almost an absurd concept on Meta anyway, and it seems to have attracted on-topic answers (that say it's a bad idea)

@RyanM it also has 2 del votes. Mhh might consider flagging it to clear the votes
I honestly see nothing wrong with this Q

@Luuklag reopened cc @Ryan , saves it from deletion as well
Adjusted the title to be "Can we construct" which is far less opinion based than "What's the best way to..."
So, COVID got me too, and the other two kids, so we're all locked in the house for a week. Well, wife can go out as she just recovered, which is lucky. :D
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar wow. Is this your first time?
How are the symptoms so far?
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar She was sticking to a single room right?
@rene yup. No more COVIrgin. ;-)
at least humor is not affected ...
13:13
@rene sadly both daughters got it bad, high fever, lack of appetite. Son is fine, just more aggressive than usual but that's because he's locked down, not due to the COVID. lol
@rene nothing can twist my humor as it's too twisted already. :P
@curious wife while sick? Yes, but kids were all out every day, might got it from someone and gave it to me as bday present. (It's in three days ;))
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar say hi to the family from me then and wish them a speedy recovery. And they have to accept they get you locked-in as a "bonus" ;)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Oh! So your wife confined herself to a room but the kids could roam. Man, I wish I got to do that when I had covid :D
When thinking about it, might have a symptom, being more tired than usual, I slept over 5 hours and still tired. :(
testing...
!!/cake Shadow
13:16
@curious No such command 'cake'.
C:
Actually I got a cake!
@rene :D
I hope it's not a lie :)
@curious yeah, the kids were with me, and we made antigen tests every day. Yesterday one of the daughters was positive then later all of us as well.
13:19
@Spevacus Thanks! Tossed an answer on it.
One of the teachers in my son's "holiday school" (not sure how it's called) said she teach him three years and never saw me. :P
You will probably be unsurprised that a moderator believes that moderators are a good thing.
moderators are a terrible idea
11
we should let users run wild
I'm very tempted to star this out of context ^^
13:21
:D
tbh that's in context, just tongue in cheek :D
I'll keep the link for future one-boxing ;)
Moderators are the worst, except for all the alternatives.
haha
@curious I'm very tempted to pin it
if we all star it it'll basically be pinned
13:24
or some RO pinned it
perfect.
ROs are a terrible idea too.
(I hope forest turns up, slightly high, and gets completely confused)
Oh speaking of perfection, this comment is absolutely perfect:
It's great to clean up the duplicate voting from this bug. +2, I mean, +1. — rgettman Jun 24 at 18:47

Quite liked that one.
@RyanM Also unsurprising that a Stack Overflow moderator would mention that he'd appreciate the load being lessened :)
Hahaha...yes please.
We're nearing 300 custom flags pending...
13:27
That's... About the same number that were pending last time you updated us, I think?
It's getting higher
I'm at zero on both my sites smugface
1969 flagged posts handled this week...by me.
Ah, it is higher. Here's the last one
well no 2
13:28
@JourneymanGeek s l a c k e r
I just cleared it today!
Nvm good job ;)
@RyanM What's that "give feedback" hyperlink next to the unfriendly or unkind comment flag (auto) count?
@Spevacus links to a Google form for feedback on the unfriendly robot
Hmm... How does that usually do? Pretty decent or does it need some work?
The accuracy of the robot's flags I mean
13:31
It's pretty decent for a robot honestly. About half useful, half not.
It flags a lot, though.
Those darn unfriendly SO users.
Or, rather, those friendly SO users that word their comments such that a robot is unable to see that they're being friendly...
My favorite part is that it occasionally flags over-the-top glowing praise, presumably because it's used to sarcasm :D
@JourneymanGeek I'm at zero on three sites. Get on my level :D
13:33
@Mithical I'd need to find a third site
@JourneymanGeek 👀
@RyanM lol
and tbh current job barely has me managing my 2
Join the dark (mode) side.
@Spevacus I think the only ways I can be a SO mod is either divinely inspired programming skills, or becoming a CM :D
and both those feel unlikely right now
I was considering pets during the last election they had
@JourneymanGeek It's okay, I have a little secret that makes keeping it at 0 easy...
13:36
lol
Pro tip: if you never handle the tricky flags that are sitting around for a month, they can't drag down your average flag handling time.
@Mithical So far today: i.sstatic.net/B7T1Y.png
Not bad, not bad
We do in fact handle the average flag pretty quickly. Just all the people we chat with raise a lot of non-average flags...
our MSE ones should be quite bad lol
we have a lot of retag flags (and I had one sitting from last sept .-.) and we let too many comment flags sit a week or two
Probably not a bad thing. I'd think MSE is uniquely qualified for those type of flags specifically to sit around for awhile.
13:43
The oldest flag I can quickly find is from May 18, about a duplicate answer.
13:54
yup
14:05
@JourneymanGeek I'm at zero on one of my sites too! :D
@JourneymanGeek Not that much worse than SO: i.sstatic.net/5e4KD.png#.png :P
For today, the average flag handling time is 14 minutes.
14:21
Pretty sure I raised an NLN flag a short while ago that was handled in close to 120 seconds.
Eh, 5-ish mins. Close enough.
I'm at zero on my site too! I haven't seen a flag in ages but that might be due to them getting Glorfindel'd before I get to them.
I'm at zero flags on all sites. :D
Someone ruined it on MSE by writing a 21st comment on a post XD
Actually I was moderator on a medium-scaled forum, and I don't remember how flags worked there. It was something really primitive, that's for sure, and we didn't have Meta site to ask for improvements. Only direct messages to the site owner, who naturally usually didn't respond.
So, nothing changed here then
14:26
I think one could flag posts only as spam, then it showed up in a single mod page.
9 flags pending, the oldest one was from... Sep 2021!
@rene Needs to be in the past 3 days though ;) If you fix that, I will delete it as it's 'dangerous' :P
LOL
:)
@MetaAndrewT. what's preventing it from being handled?
Anyway, found the cure for COVID!
14:36
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar confused about what to do. It's an automatic flag by the Community bot though, not necessarily crucial.
@MetaAndrewT. so why not just decline and let it rest in peace? ;)
Unless you keep it for science, to see if it would expire on its own one day? :D
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Send me some too... still coughing XD
@Tinkeringbell sure thing, the cake is huge! Just give your home address and it will show up there soon.
:D
Ehh. Is a P.O. box okay too? XD
14:51
Should work, yeah ;)
15:17
I do agree it looks like a lost soul on first sight.
@Glorfindel Thanks for nuking (and pinging) :)
15:42
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Shadow's knee cures COVID? :O
15:57
@Spevacus yes!!!
:D
16:54
OK, it's time.
