@Luuklag Yeah that's fishy @Spev, pinging @JNat is the way to go; better to not nominate that to be suspended and loose out for a year. --- With a skyrocket rep like that you'll want to dump some like I did, so you gain an expected amount over time; which is extremely tiny on that site. --- JG called it parachuting, even if it's not your plane you are the one inserted.
The serial script probably doesn't do bounties, and I don't want to detail the detection mechanism; but that might not be caught.
As recently as last week you could have entered a different election, but you only had 101 there too; so I didn't mention it. They have 3 candidates for 1 position.

@Rob more in terms of people going in cause there's a role to be filled over a longer term working relationship with the site

@Rob I don't imagine I'd be suspended as I've not instructed anyone to upvote my posts nor have I done so myself via alternate profiles. What I'd imagine would happen would be that my nomination would be withdrawn in the event that the votes that got me over 300 were invalidated. I'd much rather that reputation be legitimately earned.

Rob
Probably, and yes.

12:16 AM
That said, I'm definitely waiting a couple days before making any sort of decision. Heck, someone might even nominate between now and then.

As much as people here want to help - its very much an issue that community and the CMs need to sort out, without parachuting in mods, or soliciting votes. As mods, a lot of the time, we do need the moral high ground, and that means not doing the 'wrong' things for the right reasons.
That is what I was referring to.
^^^ They have one, who's a reasonably good choice (even if his Candidate Score is lower than mine :D ), so that's enough.
@Spevacus I did ask this last week, maybe I missed the reply, can you link to a post or comment where the moderator specifically mentions us by user name and welcomes either of our help; as he has done for a couple of other people?

12:32 AM
@Rob Forgive me as I don't seem to have seen a previous message of that nature. No, Canadian Luke has not mentioned us specifically as it relates to joining him. However, he has interacted with others who also did not have the reputation required to nominate and encouraged them to step forward should they gain that rep (I can link later, gotta run for a bit!)

Rob
It's called the cold shoulder.

@Spevacus Staff could assume the worst and think you asked others to upvote you off-site

@Rob I don't think I agree. I think he's really open to any good help he can get, and he expressed to one user who hadn't yet participated on Freelancing that they should step up should they get the opportunity. Admittedly that user is quite established on Matter Modeling, but I think the message is the same.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Thank you for worrying me further D:

@Spevacus That person has far more flair than we do: stackexchange.com/users/1327177/nike-dattani?tab=accounts and the change of tune came after the gallows were built (see prior discussion) in the past few days. There's also the side channel that was mentioned in the above comment.

I don't know. I think you're looking at it from a far more pessimistic perspective than is needed. It seems to me he's quite open to candidates, especially if there are enough to kick an actual election into gear.

Rob
IRL, if you were walking down the street and thought someone needed your help, and you offered it, but you were ignored or the stalling tactics were employed, would you linger, to quadruple check; or would you be on about your business?

@Rob It depends on the type of help, especially if danger is involved. That said, I don't think this analogy is entirely applicable as I don't see Canadian Luke utilizing any "stalling tactics".

Rob
@Spevacus Right here: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/89?m=8929579#8929579 read a dozen messages before and after; you are part of the conversation. It's a whole new tune now.

Oh, I see. You were referring to the CMs. Well, that was clarified that Juan was not in the position to extend the vine he seemed to at the time, and that clarification, to me, did make sense.

Rob
1:21 AM
@Spevacus If you read further the "team" is the manager in charge (who single handedly has full authority to make the decision) and the moderator, it's those two who are the team and not a weekly meeting of the CMs. Later an employee under the manager suggested that they reconsidered, I discussed that, they maintained the decision, we amicably ended the discussion.

@Rob Typical McTwist.
@Rob BLACKPINK look better, muting audio at work so can't know about singing.

🦆 would be better, but chicken is a reasonable substitute - what's missing is the rice.
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 There was another, but too many tattoos. 😟
I didn't realize how many of the girl groups are doing nasty sexy over pretty sexy - seems to go against the origins of K-Pop, or even pop in general. It's the death metal of metal, the punk of rock, the wrong direction of K-Pop

@Rob that is true
@Rob tattoos are fine, sadly many are hidden.
@Rob I never really tried to figure the meaning of K-Pop, it emerged in Israel couple of years ago with a local Eurovision Nominee finalist singing it, I liked it but that's about it. But from what I see it's mostly boys groups, with very feminine look, not girls. Maybe I was just looking in wrong places, dunno.
OMG he's back!!

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 I'd say it's puzzling why you'd want your wife to look like me, but now I see why.

7:36 AM
@Rob glad you can see! :)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Did you also hear about the chinese K-pop group of 6yo's. I think they disbanded a week after their start, due to public controversie

Rob

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 There's a difference between a tattoo that looks like it was done by someone who looks like they learned in prison (from another idiot) like the previous image, and a work of art done by a professional; something that someone (intelligent) would pay for, even if it's ugly.

@Rob Good thing most colour inks will be banned starting jan 1st

Rob
8:25 AM
@Luuklag Apparently it's only 2 colors, but it will have a large effect - sources: beardsntattoos.com/only-pink-tattoos-for-the-future inkppl.com/en/magazine/ink-people/… --- Probably the biggest effect will be an increase in tattoo tourism.

8:54 AM
@Rob well blue and green, so also any colour that is obtained by mixing one of those pigments in
From your first linked article:
> The two pigments are the main component of 60% of all tattoo inks

> This is a creative translation of original badge named "Editor". The translation "Младший редактор" (junior editor) is chosen since another badge ("Strunk & White" in original) has been translated as "Редактор" ("Editor").
I just want to express my admiration at the translations here. I never thought about it but yes "Strunk & White" is basically untranslatable. So making an entirely new hierarchy for the badges makes good sense.
I wonder what other foreign language SE sites have done with these.

@Glorfindel That's also good.

9:36 AM
Portugese has "Strunk & White" as the name and Japanese has something that Google translate tells me translates to "Reviewer" but maybe it's actually "Editor".

Meh why localize in the first place...

9:51 AM
@Luuklag whoa, no. But yeah that's totally crossing many lines.
@Rob well tattoo can come in many forms.
Talking about tattoos, my brother and his wife made one, their first, recently.
That's my brother's tattoo, he sent it shortly after it was done:
His wife did on the leg so she didn't send. ;)

10:32 AM
@Luuklag Because it's fun. I like seeing how people have improved translations by changing a references here and there. I think it's a form of art by itself.

@VLAZ Just have translate the concept, not literally the two names:

“The Elements of Style”, was first written by William Strunk in 1918 for private use at Cornell University, where Strunk was a professor of English, and republished by Harcourt in 1920 for the public. The concise handbook remains one of the most important and influential English writing style guides ever published. The original edition of the guide is organized into eight elementary rules of usage (such as using the active voice rather than the passive), ten elementary rules of composition (including the rule of omitting needless words), several matters of form, 49 c

Q: What’s purportedly wrong with Strunk & White’s “The Elements of Style”?

MikeSchinkelI was reading the comments on this answer where several users claimed that Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style was “misinformed, hypocritical, and wrong” and “flat-out wrong or totally misleading”, so I’d love to get a delineated list of where it is wrong. Note: I have no position on this o...

Here for this question it is written outattard edited it but clicking on the question there is no where written about edit by ouattara. Is this a bug?

no, they posted an answer which has been deleted

@Glorfindel Oh okay I guess there is no use for showing this to <10k rep users since they can't view deleted question and answer

but then they'd wonder why the question was bumped
and there is only one cache of the homepage, valid for all users

@JitendraSingh This has been around for awhile. The behavior (applies to when the Community user "modifies" a post, which is what appears when a user posts an answer and has their profile and answer deleted) has been requested to be removed awhile ago, but was declined.

Can I know whether or not a user was suspended in the past?

3:24 PM
Oh okay Thank You @Glorfindel and @Spevacus

@Wolgwang nope
Not officially at least.

No problem! I kinda agree that what happened is not immediately explained to <10k users, but I also feel like we'd be over-engineering a bit if it did.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 SEDE?

You can search around, sometimes they're mentioned, but usually you won't really know.

@Wolgwang If they chose to tell you

3:26 PM
@Wolgwang nope, no SuspensionCount column anywhere.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 There are queries that gives currently suspended users but not ...

Mods can see this as part of mod messages history.

@JitendraSingh Just asking :)

@Wolgwang yeah but it's a trick, they look for users with 1 rep who should have more.
I guess that one can build external database where they would store suspended users then will be able to query it later, but that won't be official and also frowned upon.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Boooo noises

@Wolgwang if you're really curious about specific user feel free to hit me up in private channel, currently I have two in my profile. (email and Twitter)
Most likely I won't be able to help anyway, but if I can, need to be private.

Is there a query that stores the old data of other queries just like the wayback machine?
XD
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 I was just asking...thanks for the offer :-)

hmm... let me think....

...
...
...
No.
:D

4:13 PM
@Rob Yes, I'm aware what Strunk & White references. However, you cannot usefully translate it, even as a concept unless you make up a new one. The Cervantes badge (Spanish) comes close but it's not really the same as the English term. Because there is no direct equivalent. Russian apparently went with renaming the three badges to go around the problem of coming up with only a separate translation for one. Which I think also showcases the problem.

@VLAZ Looking at the site I see this:
The Strunk & White might have been better named Glavred, and perhaps Glavred named Senior Editor.
The term they use for themself is "Chief Editor".
Perhaps "Proofreader" for the second position: wiki.jobsforeditors.com/chief-editor.html as chief is the top.

Spanish has an additional difficulty, gender unknown terms are promoted to masculine. Some terms for editor differ depending on the occupation of the editor: collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-spanish/editor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_neutrality_in_Spanish
