Is there really Dark Mode on MSE (first screenshot), or... ?

12:20 AM
could be
I for one would love to see dark mode at least on MSO and MSE

@10Repsaysgetvaccinated So would I. I would post a Meta question, but then I'm afraid it'll simply "be a userscript, dummy".

I don't think it's a userscript, more likely one of those "dark mode" chrome extensions (Assuming she is using chrome).

Userscript, extension etc. Dark Mode stand-in.

lemme try out some of those and see if I get anything similar

Yeah, because it looks so perfect/similar to the real Dark Mode I'm wondering if it actually is.

12:27 AM
@Ollie I think it's an extension. Look at this, they look super similar :)
What interests me is that that question even has a close vote

@10Repsaysgetvaccinated Nope, the user's name in the post's screenshot is blue, not purple. There would also be more orange about.

Yes, I was being sarcastic lol
I think devs have access to dark mode network wide or something

This is what I see in my dark mode. Notably, the buttons on MSE are blue, not orange, which suggests it's from Stack Overflow.

and they're testing it out before releasing it

@RyanM Exactly, the review buttons should be orange, not blue.
@RyanM Don't think so. There's a Meta logo at the top, and I don't see why they would change it.

12:32 AM
I like it better with blue to be honest... orange is too bright

@Ollie Hm...you're right, that is odd. Maybe they used it as a placeholder in an earlier revision?

@10Repsaysgetvaccinated Looks great. I'm going to ask.
@RyanM *shrug*

@Ollie no
I suspect the internal/beta instance might

@JourneymanGeek I don't quite follow you. Is it being tested?

I need to write up my experiences on mobile with the alpha editor
@Ollie it's likely using/is SO's theme

12:36 AM
Hope it comes to life soon...

@Ollie not that likely. A big hope I have is thru do it for beta/new sites

I'd rather look at light mode than use those chrome extensions...

Rob
@Ollie It could be a test mode, but it definitely works on Stack Overflow.

Rob

It looks like it would be easy to DIY with a UserScript, view the source on Stack Overflow.
You could also craft a Post and send it to the site with your UserID and preference (assuming there's a hidden bit bucket to deposit the preference).

@MetaAndrewT. Good guess. Weird site, the Help doesn't even work; but about reveals yet another site: dev.stackoverflow.com

The chat system rewrites the link into dev.meta.stackexchange.com, breaking it

@SonictheCuriouserHedgehog strange, I just noticed it >_<

ok, that was a wierd image to post

You made me look XD

Sorry oO

Nah, no worries ;)
There's worse pictures out there and even then, it's my fault to go looking for them :P

@JourneymanGeek nice job
Did I understand from your answer to the blogpost that you applied Journey

63 messages moved to Chimney

Any news yet?

hm. Not in this round of hires - they really wanted folks with professional experience in CMing

8:58 AM
Seeing Shog's answer I don't know you should be sad or not...
Might turn out to be a big disappointment if you got the job

I'm not expecting stuff to be rosy. Quite the contrary.
On the other hand - I really want to see a situation where mods get hired as CMs, and actually are willing to step forward
and those seats to be filled, and better yet, filled by folks who get the community
But that's a fair bit away

@JourneymanGeek Woohoo! Congratulations :D
@JourneymanGeek ... You'd almost have to have a mod that's out of a job at the moment to consider starting to work for a company that can fire at will XD

@Tinkeringbell That's part of the problem

Well maybe with covid it won't be a problem much longer, though I won't wish that upon any mod.

9:13 AM
lol
@Tinkeringbell One of my personal success criteria for CM Management is people being excited when there's an opening.
So - its stops being a bit of a "What are you, nuts?" for applying
(no offence to current CMs, who we love dearly and got the job in better days :D )

@JourneymanGeek Hahaha well I don't think you'll ever succeed then, as I'll always will have that thought :P

!!/appoint JMG as CM

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating No such command 'appoint'.

Yeah you muat be comoletely oblivious to the current situation or a masochist imho if your willing to apply right now.

Rob
9:19 AM
@Luuklag Many beggars are particularly choosy; I've been to many job interviews where there had been dozens of previous interviews over a period of months, but they just couldn't find the right fit. Turned out they had some idea that they could not only pay less than minimum wage but that it would be OK to add additional responsibilities, with wage reviews annually. Also, ...

@Luuklag So - a few things

@Luuklag hmm? Anything I missed? Things now are rather calm.

Well reading Shog's post doesnt make me hopefull

What I would like to see is a "CM Election" among all network moderators.

And you must be nearly retarded if your willing to work under US labour laws if you're from anywhere else in the world

9:21 AM
A few folks were quite insistent I tried. I am looking for a new job (and the current one isn't a bed of roses) and a mod getting hired would be a clear sign to me that things turned a corner

@Luuklag Shog is just being Shog. I didn't get a bad feeling, more like "It was terrible for years, finally you made a move, but it might too late".

buuut I don't think any mods are crazy enough

@Luuklag it's 100% remote, worst thing is high taxes, but I assume money is not a key factor for @JourneymanGeek here. Of course it's important, but not the major thing.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating I get the idea that he also feels that a reorganisation is the last thing they need
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating singapore taxes are low

@JourneymanGeek not quite... I think he means they need reorganisation, but one "for real" and to be final, not just a show to make them look busy. ("them" the managers, not CMs)

9:24 AM
Not without an actual, proper-sized CM team

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Noooooo

@Tinkeringbell :(

@Tinkeringbell you could not stand :D

@JourneymanGeek but SE itself will have to pay taxes to USA. No?

@JourneymanGeek Yeah right. No thanks... I'll stick with the Dutch 'Act normal, that's already crazy enough'. I don't need a bunch of US-Centric bad habits on top of that ;)

9:26 AM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating haven't quite checked but no

Also, I have way more PTO now, and better labor laws like Luuklag already pointed out.

I would check if I got hired but we have a double taxation agreement so I'd pay tax in one not both
Depending in the interpretation of the laws, if its seen as foreign revenue, I'd possibly not pay tax at all
not sure about the mandatory retirement fund

Now for better news! Going to order burgers today, for whole family. :D

Uuuugh now I'm hungry again. And it's still at least 2 hours until lunch here.

9:29 AM
But we're having fries tonight, like every other Fri(es)day :D
Maybe I can trick someone into getting them from take-out instead of making them at home, so I can order a burger with it too :D

Rob
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Burgermeister

@Tinkeringbell so do we !!!

It's a rather Dutch thing to have fries for dinner at least once a week, on either Friday or Saturday, I think :P

9:51 AM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating looks like captcha...

@Tinkeringbell rofl
@Tinkeringbell good plan!
@Rob yup
@Tinkeringbell well wife and me eat onion fries every Friday night, don't remember why or when it started. ;)
@MetaAndrewT. "Click all pictures with cheese"

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating We used to eat fries every Saturday because that meant mom didn't 'have to cook'. We later switched to Fridays as that was easier with swimming lessons and soccer practice for my brothers (both of which were on Friday evening after dinner).

Rob
It's a funny image, it makes it look like the cheapest burger is $39; at first glance. But then you realize to convert to dollars. But really that's not a lot better, the truth is that 39 Shekels is U$11.85 - and that's 2x (even 3x) what I'd expect to pay.
@Tinkeringbell Now we know why the rest of the world inherited the name Friday for that day of the week - !!/blame Mrs. Tinkeringbell (senior)

10:12 AM
Hahaha XD I'll let her know ;)

10:23 AM
@Tinkeringbell huh. Makes lots of sense. ;)

11:06 AM
@Rob yeah it's a known fact food here cost more than in other places, we even had big civil riot over that few years ago when people realized a product that is made here in Israel is being sold for half the price in Europe. It made people realize how greedy the big food companies are.
Of course the only outcome of the riot was few people who became politicians after leading the riot. All are now gone, as they're not real politicians to begin with. And prices? They only rise.
Well, maybe not full scale riot, "only" protests.
The 2011 Israeli social justice protests (Hebrew: מְחָאָת צֶדֶק חֶבְרָתִי‎), which are also referred to by various other names in the media, were a series of demonstrations in Israel beginning in July 2011 involving hundreds of thousands of protesters from a variety of socio-economic and religious backgrounds opposing the continuing rise in the cost of living (particularly housing) and the deterioration of public services such as health and education. A common rallying cry at the demonstrations was the chant; "The people demand social justice!". As the protests expanded during August 2011, the...
It was sparked, mainly, by this:
The cottage cheese boycott (Hebrew: מחאת הקוטג'‎ or חרם הקוטג'‎) was an Israeli consumer boycott which began in June 2011 using Facebook. The protest was against the continuing rise of food prices in Israel. The organizers called on the public to stop buying cottage cheese, which is perceived as a basic food item in Israel. Within a short time, 100,000 users joined the Facebook protest page. As the boycott gained momentum, it sparked a public debate on the high cost of living in Israel.Despite special sales campaigns designed to tempt shoppers, supermarket chains reported a sharp drop in t...
Which is what I was referring to earlier.
Anyway, the burger that cost 39 shekels is for the kids. ;)

Rob
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Rip off. People gotta eat.
McCheapo's has two (puny) burgers for two bucks, while Wendy's has a quality burger for eight bucks (as a comparison): menuwithprice.com/menu/mcdonalds/california/los-angeles/80251 menuwithprice.com/menu/wendys/california/los-angeles/171150

@Rob and those owning the companies get to eat much more, yeah.

Rob
11:23 AM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Wendy's biggest burger (based on calories): 1520 cal | $7.69

11:44 AM
Damn guys all this burger talk makes me hungry
Eventhough me and the kids just had lunch
"Kibbeling"
@Tinkeringbell does your covidiot brother plan to "drink coffee" in Apeldoorn on sunday?

Rob
No coffee; they must eat Ice Cream Sundae on that day:

12:05 PM
@Rob yeah that would be great. Drinking coffee became synonym with protesting. As some mayors banned some protest, and then proteators called everyone to join them for coffee in the park :/

Rob
I must be a great protester, I drink more than a dozen coffees everyday.

12:26 PM
@ShadowWizardisVaccinating this is common practice, prices abroad may be more competitive and the economy itself needs to export. Besides comparison prices are disparate since they normally don't factor in retail and taxes, and the reference price tends to be in bulk unlike final consumer prices.

@Luuklag "Boterham met hagelslag" here... I would murder for some kibbeling right now but the seller is closed and doesn't offer take-out :(
@Luuklag And no. He's mostly ok with being a covidiot locally ;)

12:41 PM
@Tinkeringbell Also not too bad, could've been cheese ;).

@Luuklag I like cheese, but we were out :P

Here there is one of those market stands every day of the week at some different place.

12:57 PM
I wonder if I'll rep cap for the fourth consecutive day today
Do we know who owns ImAbot?
Lots of suggested edits to old closed posts

@Luuklag I could find out, but only if it's really a problem ;)

1:29 PM
@Tinkeringbell i can now as well: meta.stackexchange.com/users/919265/popcorn they changed name and profiledescription

Rob
2:00 PM
It says the owner.

@Tinkeringbell If dragging up old off-topic votes is problematic you might want to have a chat with them

:8738194 yeah, cheap
Here they have excuses like having to pay for making quality food, keeping it Kosher, etc. Of course it's all just lame excuses but many actually believe that.
Food companies pay to people who give them the Kosher certificates, think it's only few thousands per month, no big deal.

@Rob In as many hours? Even I don't drink that much.

Rob
@Ollie It's more than twelve hours, I drink (cafinated) coffee all day; between @sha and myself we might well drink your weekly supply each day. 🚤⚡

@Rob yup
@bad_coder still, annoying and appears to be unfair and/or greedy.

@Rob Depends on the size of your cup.

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Just out of the blue: How many Meta names have you had? There's Shadow10YearsWizard, WizardWearingMask...

Convergent evolution — the repeated evolution of similar traits in multiple lineages which all ancestrally lack the trait — is rife in nature, as illustrated by the examples below. The ultimate cause of convergence is usually a similar evolutionary biome, as similar environments will select for similar traits in any species occupying the same ecological niche, even if those species are only distantly related. In the case of cryptic species, it can create species which are only distinguishable by analysing their genetics. Unrelated organisms often develop analogous structures by adapting to similar...

Congratulations @Shog9, for having the first answer on all of Meta with a score of 2000!

@Ollie Legendary. Shog is the Skeet of Meta. ;)

@ShadowWizardisVaccinating Skeet9?

6:04 PM
Shog Skeet.

Shog doesn't even have half Jon's reputation. Then, it's easy to get a quarter million rep on Stack Overflow.
But not here.

6:19 PM
@Ollie exactly. One line is enough to give you infinite income on SO, on MSE it might give you a bit, but interest fades quickly and nobody visit it again to give more points.
Like money sitting in a bank: some banks will give interest, some banks won't.

Rob
There are people who have a similar rep, yet over 5x as many upvotes.
Even Oli is famous:

Q: What is the correct JSON content type?

OliI've been messing around with JSON for some time, just pushing it out as text and it hasn't hurt anybody (that I know of), but I'd like to start doing things properly. I have seen so many purported "standards" for the JSON content type: application/json application/x-javascript text/javascript ...

Primate () is a title or rank bestowed on some important archbishops in certain Christian churches. Depending on the particular tradition, it can denote either jurisdictional authority (title of authority) or (usually) ceremonial precedence (title of honour). == Roman Catholic Church == In the Western Church, a Primate is an Archbishop—or, rarely, a suffragan or exempt bishop—of a specific (mostly Metropolitan) episcopal see (called a primatial see) who has precedence over the bishoprics of one or more ecclesiastical provinces of a particular historical, political or cultural area. @Shog9 Which one of the 3578 is that? You've got no others that are even close to 2k that seem to be about water?

Hi folks, I posted 2 Q's today on MSE, 1# here and also #2 here. I'm just 3 votes short of the mortarboard badge, and really looking forward to it. If you'd consider casting a vote it would make my day.

Sure, downvotes on questions are free after all! :P

@Tinkeringbell I meant up votes T_T

@bad_coder ;) don't worry, I got that, so I managed to joke about it :)

When you quit reviewing?
Wohoo thx to ben for the edits I reocapped the 4th day in a row.

@Luuklag I don't really review anywhere near as much since becoming a mod. There's enough reviewers that that we don't have problems with the review queues very often. I did do a few recently to get a hat ...

I quit reviewing on SO when I hit 1000. Onlyndo it when I'm really bored

Shog9Ah... I remember doing this growing up. Usually used a small handful of table salt in a sink full of water, and the worms would be floating on the top after about 5-10 minutes. Most of the worms. Sorry I can't give you a more precise ratio; I actually suspect soaking in water does more good th...
