Hmmm this question of mine was closed as duoe, but I dont see any dupeness in it. Anyone care to have a look? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/357815/…
@Luuklag Yeah, not a dupe.
07:36
Thanks @Tinkeringbell
Funny to see you can't see who voted to close your question even as a 10k user
At least in the post announcement
That's been removed? There is no one to gnash your teeth at any more?
Rob
Rob
@Luuklag The first to flag is hidden, for privacy, the review outcome is public knowledge; if you have a little rep.
Understood that the people on that list have their reason hidden, they are often not unanimous.
@Rob Small quibble: no rep is required to see that; even logged-out users can see the review votes (though, as you note, not the selected close reason)
Rob
Rob
@RyanM That doesn't appear to be true, I have 103 rep there; and see nothing but that it was closed.
@Rob That review did not receive any votes; try viewing this link in a private (i.e., not even logged in) window
It does appear to hide the review result from me in the timeline, though, which is interesting...when I'm logged into MSE (where I have 3k rep), I can see the "completed" result, with counts of the votes in the timeline itself. Logged out, I just see a close review, with no indication of the result (other than that the post was closed at the same time, but that's just an implication).
If the post is closed outside of review, the review is invalidated rather than completed, so a close review may get no votes but be invalidated when the post is closed.
08:03
@RyanM Now I know who are MSE's robo reviewers ;)
@Rob that's special case, the review was aborted for some reason. The question was closed outside the review. @RyanM is correct, e.g. see here.
You can see who reviewed, even without being logged in.
Rob
Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard That's not an example, you know I'm over 10K.
@Rob open link in guest mode. 0 rep.
Had many angry calls yesterday @Shadow10YearsWizard?
@Luuklag actually zero. The client company has a "main representative" who is working directly with me and should get all the 20-ish users calls. It never worked before in major updates (as most users have my direct number), but somehow it did yesterday. Either he's really good, or people are too afraid of me. :P
I had 6-8 calls from him, but none was angry. ;)

08:09
@Shadow10YearsWizard If I'm correct, just look at the timeline to see why a question was closed, no matter your rep.
@Luuklag sure you can, in revisions.
@Xnero the "why" appear on the question itself, the "who" doesn't anymore.
@Shadow10YearsWizard yeah I know, but as a 10K user I ought not to be using workarounds to see who closed my question.
@rene is it still huge?
@Luuklag it's not a workaround, it's meant to prevent some of the revenge votes.
@Shadow10YearsWizard I know, but at a certain level we could expect users to be civil enough right?
@Shadow10YearsWizard what is?
08:12
If someone see who closed their question right in front of them on top of the question, it's very tempting to click, and downvote random posts.
Reputation is a poor proxy for experience and civility.
@Luuklag lol, of course not. :D
@rene dunno, whatever was huge 20 hours ago.
:P
We need some stats to see if hiding the closers really helped to reduce revenge votes and/or comments.
Now where are the pings from @Ollie ...
Rob
Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard I don't know that your example is also not a special case, what I do know is that I have time enough to see this somewhat related Q&A and will have to come back to this later; if needed.
@Ollie I see a blue tip on his tail!
@Rob you might be confusing the close votes we see below a question while it's not closed yet, and the review actions. Not sure, so better put it aside, and let @Ollie drink his coffee.

@Luuklag Regarding edit: not "seeing closed questions*. - are you missing a quote or an asterisk (or two)?
@Shadow10YearsWizard ?
@Rob Yeah I missed that, fixed it.

Thanks for your contributions.
"https://cdn.sstatic.net/Winterbash/js/wb19site.min.js" gives 404 error, and so does wb20site.
Oddly, "https://cdn.sstatic.net/Winterbash/js/home.min.js" still works.
08:59
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе so it's a "no". Fine, I'll look for a chicken soon.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе previous year JS files for winter bash?
They probably didn't pay much attention to it.
09:35
@Shadow10YearsWizard seems odd to remove only specific files under a cdn path and forget others
so I suppose home.min is not year specific and is reused over multiple events?
anyway, not going to look into it. I just checked since you mentioned a chicken.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе well, one person here can answer this.... sadly, @Yaakov isn't pingable.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Why is your "R" from 'WINTER BASH" infected with a mint green zombie brain?
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе the chicken is there, Resting.
@Shadow10YearsWizard you just gotta do a summoning circle
@Mithical sec
Now we shall wait.
@Tinkeringbell year old chicken, guess it didn't age well.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Suggestion: if you are trying to do a troll and need a photoshop, ask Telkitty.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе alas! She's gone. :(
Do we have anyone to replace her?
@user400654 you feel OK? No toilets for long time.
@Shadow10YearsWizard some things are unique and can't be replaced, sorry.

If you have a SEDE query that shows visible vs. non-visible that would be helpful at this point; I can't spend too many hours on this.
@Rob well, guess I was wrong to use the term "special case". Just meant it's a case where the question was closed outside the review process, hence it becomes "unreviewable" and not showing who reviewed.
@rene TelKitty was unique indeed.

I think we are overexpanding the premise of our starting point which is followed by Ryan concurring with my brief investigation (that did not examine every nuance):

Hey Guys, our company sends out a registration mail to people that registered with one of our sites, to send them a password. It usually ends up in spam, because well it looks spammy. Would there be any site for such a question?
I think personal finance and money takes 'is this a scam' :P
haha good one ;)
SuperUser might be a good bet for questions like this. Should be able to help craft the right meta information in the email to avoid hitting spam filters.
Here is the message I mean:
11:50
Why can't I have a little luck anytime?
Have to just prepare a Sharepoint app package, have to use VS 2015 since app is quite old....
and VS2015 keeps complaining about license expired.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе hooray for SaaS
Obviously, I have a valid msdn subscription
But no KEY unlock option. I have keys for 2010, 2017, 2019 but 2015 is the only on I have to use the alternate "sign-in with windows account" licensing method
seems something corrupted.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе no way to use a trial version?
11:54
@Luuklag EVEN THE COMMUNITY FREE EDITION! same message...... I want to curl up and cry.....
And obviously, plenty of people on google having the same problem with VS version from 2015 UP TO 2019.
So, same problem is still there unfixed for .... 5 years at least.
the only thing I found is multiple SO posts referencing having to delete a corrupted file in "\AppData\Local\.IdentityService".... a folder that doesn't even EXIST on this VM.
at least I know my Christmas present now.
I will buy a kagura suzu
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе is that for fighting?
@Luuklag umm
Sending plain password in email is...... wrong. Period.
I don't judge, heck, did it myself, but.... it's bad.
Send a unique random token, that will let the user choose password, and expire after a while. @Luuklag
@Shadow10YearsWizard I agree, but not in my power to do something about it. Been this way since '06 I guess. Someone found budget to make it, and now there is 0 budget to maintain things.
12:01
@Luuklag too bad... so at least mask the password somehow...
But as it is, Google is correct to block it.
Yeah colleague came to me, yeah our emails don't get delivered or end up in spam
I looked at it, and said, well yeah its just pretty spammy as is
I think the quickest way is to rewrite the message to something more decent
@Luuklag You know who Miko are? The kagura suzu is a small rod with bells, usually used during shinto rituals. Some attribute it spirit calming / exorcising powers.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I have 0 clue
Alternatively, a Khakkhara
12:03
@Shadow10YearsWizard maybe even use some HTML with a spoiler tag or something
@Luuklag there's no HTML spoiler tag
hmmm yeah, that's how well my html skills are ;)
@Luuklag lol all good... though it might work with pure CSS
@Shadow10YearsWizard yeah no-one is going to be able to do that xD
12:05
Gmail does block some CSS, so dunno if it will work.
I guess I'm the most tech-savy colleague
@Luuklag another idea: put the details in a document (Word, PDF, whatever) and send that document as attachment, with email body "See attached file for details".
There's a cheap PDF generator API which we're using, if it will be relevant.
But better done on your own server, of course.

Back now at least
Along with whatever google issues were going on, discord was also extremely laggy, sending double messages, etc
You know the trope where a dystopian protagonist does something to the BBEG's servers, everyone's VR dies, they put it down and see the beauty of the world? Well, now we know it can't happen. People will be used to outages, and assume this is just another one.
@JohnDvorak There will be weeks of people being annoyed, posting on social media that their things aren't working... news reports about the cause of the outage still being unclear... and then back to normal ;)
Huh. This was unexpected:
@CollinB entirely plausible that discord runs on at least partial google servers
@Shadow10YearsWizard see who posted it

Bad words in HNQ! :D
@JourneymanGeek You?

Let's kick out Skeptics from the HNQ, this might offend someone!
@Shadow10YearsWizard yup

noice! (alternate of nice)
13:08
@JohnDvorak yes! :D
@BabaYaga can't use the latter anymore
@JohnDvorak Let's not, and celebrate how far we've come instead ;)
@Tinkeringbell well there are worse things on Skeptics, lol
Oh, I don't doubt there are.
Anyhow, no need to take entire sites out of the HNQ anymore, if it's really inappropriate SE can kick the question and reprimand the mods :P
13:14
@Shadow10YearsWizard I heard it works incognito mode
or the mods can kick the question
@Tinkeringbell ping someone like Catija ;)
@JourneymanGeek that question is Evan trolling a bit, so that might not be the worst idea
@MadScientist I have... opinions on that
But I'll refrain from backseat moderation ;)
@Luuklag Hey, I'm no snitch! I was more thinking of Twitter getting upset again than anyone in here ;)
13:16
@Tinkeringbell You're on twitter ;)
@Luuklag I'd rather let a local mod know
@Luuklag True... hmm, tempting :P
@JourneymanGeek Heh, yeah... but that's not what we were joking about :P
@Tinkeringbell I almost pinged a mod saying E***'s b***plug is on HNQ
@JourneymanGeek Done that. Commented on the Q itself, a Mod edited it, and were active 5 mins ago
and I thought better :D

Monkey Day is an unofficial international holiday celebrated on December 14. The holiday was created and popularized in 2000 by artists Casey Sorrow and Eric Millikin when they were art students at Michigan State University. Monkey Day celebrates monkeys and "all things simian", including other non-human primates such as apes, tarsiers, and lemurs. Monkey Day is celebrated worldwide and often also known as World Monkey Day and International Monkey Day. == Origins == Monkey Day was created and popularized by contemporary artists Casey Sorrow and Eric Millikin, beginning in 2000 when they were both...
Ohh... that reminds me!

Cookies, or crochet?
Neither :P
13:28
@Tinkeringbell well the main site mod edited the title already, so it means it's now OK for the site. I personally like it, just surprised others are fine with it as well. :D
@Shadow10YearsWizard our director had our IT guys look into our emails, I mentioned earlier. They reach a spam score of 10 (which is max) when coming to our own mailserver.
The uncouth term could easily be changed to something more scientific, but wasn't.
@Luuklag ouch. So nothing you can do.
@Shadow10YearsWizard I read the question this morning.. I thought the whole idea behind it was that people used the uncouth term, that that's the claim
Maybe people simply marked lots of the emails as spam...
@Tinkeringbell yeah, probably. Still, can be omitted from title without harming the question itself.
Rob
Rob
Looks like: "No, a clothes pin is sufficient".
13:31
Even using "sex toy" instead would be better for those who, well, care. :)
@Shadow10YearsWizard Well that message needs rewriting. But I'd say they better think of a new registration proces. That would most likely be a more permanent solution.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Pfft. A lot of people are very prudish if they can't stand words :P Or even worse, can stand only certain words for the same thing
@Tinkeringbell well, I'm with you, as you probably know.... but I'm also looking ahead on people with different... views... and lots of power.
is there a different term for BPs? ST doesn't work here.
Rob
Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard They use OB
13:33
Well - I guess part of the problem is the entire context is a meme meant to... annoy certain classes of people
unlikable people, sure...
@JohnDvorak Not that I know of. But hey, maybe worth a question on English.SE! ;)
Because two hot network questions about BPs are better than one :P

13:36
@Luuklag Sadly, it seems they scrapped the rule of 'no visitors' :(
@Tinkeringbell the archeologist at work
So it probably won't do a thing with Christmas and New Year's Eve coming up.
close enough to ruin paleontology forever
@Luuklag I don't know any archaeologists that have dug as far as the triassic....
@Tinkeringbell well I'm not that sad about it. Our boys turn two on december 31st, would be nice if grandparents could visti
13:37
Usually you hire a paleontologist for that.
@Luuklag Over here, it probably means sitting through Christmas dinner with the dementor and a covidiotic grandma... :/
I'm not that happy with that.
@Rob unplugged though.
@Luuklag Germany?
Tell them you found a vaguely hominid corpse next to what looks like a dinosaur, and you'll have archeologists swarming in
@JohnDvorak Hmm, perhaps :P
Still, might as well keep the paleontologists.
If there aren't any artefacts, and there's no sign of actual burial (a burial is a human made thing too)... it's still not archaeology to me :P
@Rob that's a good idea!
how do you tell if it's a burial?
13:41
"THAT THING BELONGS IN A MUSIUM!" "NO YOU IDIOT, WE NEED TO CAREFULLY EXTRACT THE ARTIFACT WITH PROPER RESPECT FOR THE SURROUNDINGS. WHAT ARE YOU - INDIANA JONES?"
@JohnDvorak someone build a pyramid around the body? ;-)
@JohnDvorak Disturbed soil layers, or pyramids, yes :P
@JohnDvorak concrete shoes?
@Shadow10YearsWizard NL
@JourneymanGeek There's a lot to be learned about early museums, and it was fun :D
13:42
Would it be good practice to ask people when registering to enter their own password through a form?
@Tinkeringbell Farmer kicked the bucket, and oxen with plows still attached went amok? :P
@JohnDvorak probably a little deeper then 15 cm ;)
(fair point though)
@JohnDvorak Never seen that one... I have done grave-robbing once, we recognized the burials because of the grave gifts ;)
Gold coins are pretty
There wasn't much wrt to soil changes or coffins or stuff like that though :|
@Luuklag oh, read about Germany lockdown in our local media, for some reason they didn't mention NL, or any other European country.
13:45
@Shadow10YearsWizard No they've decided that pretty much today. Announcement will officially be tonight with a press conference by our prime minister
@Luuklag that's what most sites are doing, even Google... you type a password when creating the account. Key is to force a decent password.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Germany will start next Wednesday, our press conference will be tonight... so perhaps tomorrow it'll have reached your local news too :)
@Shadow10YearsWizard well nothing sensitive they're entering there. So yeah I couldn't care less.
@Luuklag well we got out of the second lockdown not long ago, so the third wave isn't that big yet. It's here big time, but not enough to justify another lockdown.
@Tinkeringbell lol
Rob
Rob
13:48
bang first
And I don't think it takes edited messages?
Well... First, it would be nice to if one could opt out from receiving HNQ posts from specific sites.
And second, it would help if some sites (especially those with spaceships in their logo) would stop the "boy club" style private circle fun with titles.
It is really "funny" in many wrong ways to see how RPG fights everyday against that "for boys" image TRPG have and some other sites reinforce it just by reading titles... But this is only my two cents ramblings, free to ignore it.
no slashes
I'm just a crazy old pony.
13:49
well now its ought to be reported already
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I love funny titles
@Luuklag well it's plain trolling, but obvious offensive.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I don't see how that kind of humor is only tied to boys.
I like it too, I'm not a boy.
@Tinkeringbell easy to check

@Shadow10YearsWizard Ugh. And now I'm stuck with a Cappuccino. Anyone need one?
Would be a shame to let it to go to waste
@Tinkeringbell tomayto, tomahto
@Tinkeringbell sure, hand it over.
With my coffee consumption, it doesn't matter. :D

Rob
AST, and ye shall receive.
13:52
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Nah, that is one of those things that I can't really stand. It's a stupid way of thinking spread by stupid people to say 'I personally don't like this joke' but at the same time pretend that statement holds the weight of approximate half the world's population.
There may be a lot more people that don't like this kind of humor, but it has nothing to do with gender and boys.
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе yeah we should really push for having the ability to choose what sites we see in HNQ.
For some, certain sites are just noise, for some certain sites are plain offensive. Of course it's their own problem, but still. Would be nice to help them.
Rob
Rob
@Luuklag and that spams Smokey.
@Tinkeringbell nope, the point here is that I don't advocate "males come from mars, Female from mercury" trope. But some "jokes" on some sites are somehow female objectification, something that we already get ton off in games, without needing the gamers to join with pathetic devs trying to sell their games via fanservice... And mind you, I was NOT specifically referring to that question you are thinking about.
@Shadow10YearsWizard well teeechnically there is. #hot-network-questions li:has(.favicon-foo)
@JohnDvorak I mean out-of-the-box, without having to install userscripts.
