Going to edit online order, forgot to order eggs. brb

(A cake guy forgot to order eggs)

Nah, kids consume most eggs.
Scrambled eggs, mostly.
Done!
I order 24 eggs every week. Usually 2 arrive broken, so it's 22.

[plz-delete] long living spam and not enough people to flag @rene @Glor @Art @Sonic

@Shadow10YearsWizard Already flagged

(need only 2 more del votes, would be faster than getting the 6 flags.)

@Shadow10YearsWizard No, you don't want to cast normal delete votes on spam.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog me too, but we lack enough people to reach 6.
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog better than leaving it hanging out for hours.

Did you know...that spam flags also show up in the moderator queue?

8:14 AM
It's already flagged as spam, don't think normal deletion will remove the flags. Will it?

With a high priority?
@Shadow10YearsWizard Yes, it will

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog good, but only when there are mods around.

Q: Don't invalidate spam or abuse flags upon review deletion

Sonic the K-Day HedgehogThis post was a blatant spam post, initially seeming like a bare link to a Google Drive file, but that was actually a misleading link that went to a spam site (the actual link URL was different from the link title). Initially, I didn't mouse over the link, and reviewed it as "Recommend Deletion"...

Happens for normal deletions too. I've had multiple posts which I've flagged as spam, which have been deleted normally by a moderator. The timestamp of the helpful flag exactly matches the time of deletion, so it's automatic.
@JourneymanGeek Cross-site spammer (on sites you mod): stackexchange.com/users/19964793/girlionsafari

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog You don't have blacklist manager privileges, but I've created PR#5118 for you.

spam wave... spammers know no mods are around? :/

2 hours later…
10:29 AM
@Shadow10YearsWizard Or mods know when mods not around ¯_(ツ)_/¯ xD

10:43 AM
We are always around. Lurking, sneaking. leaving gifts in your shoes. The left one.

10:57 AM
@Shadow10YearsWizard I wonder how your kids consume that many eggs (three a day), that's highly unusual

11:08 AM
Hi. Stupid question. Is physicsoverflow.org using the old version of the SE server software, like MathOverflow used to before they joined, or is it independent software that was based on how MathOverflow works?

> Powered by Question2Answer

@JohnDvorak Ok, but that's just a fancy brandname that I don't know anything about, it doesn't answer my question.

SE is running its own engine
You can learn more by clicking the link that I'm quoting, in the page footer.

Thanks, I'll look at it

@b_jonas q2a is a SE clone - they are running that

11:12 AM
It lists a bunch of sites it powers, the list appears to be sorted by the number of questions, and SE isn't mentioned

If memory serves it's python based , no longer in development

Yeah, that definitely doesn't look like it's forked from SE software or anything related.
it says "PHP/MySQL"

Yup. So clone

Worse - it appears to be made in PHP :vomiting:

@JohnDvorak Give it a break, it's over ten years old.

11:14 AM
no.
Ruby is 25 years old. Ruby 2 came out in 2013. Rails 3 came out in 2010.
It's not about what it was made in - it's about forcing me to use PHP if I want to use it. The documentation doesn't even fathom the idea that I might not want to use PHP.
Points for using MySQLi instead of the original MySQL bindings though.

@JohnDvorak Um, but isn't that only if you want to run servers for a new site? That's not really my use case, I'm just looking at the existing websites. It's not like I want to run an SE website either.

... fine. I'll allow it.
You only need to know PHP to run a server, not to ask and answer there, yes.

You'd need to know PHP to write Mediawiki or phpBB extensions too, but I don't want to, I just interact with it through https, and I don't ever use PHP for that.
I have other complaints about those software, but not that they're implemented in PHP.

That their top site is a homework crowdsolving platform and numbers two through four are non-English sites?
... and that they all use the software basically unchanged?

11:29 AM
@JohnDvorak No, I mean I have complaints about MediaWiki and phpBB. I know basically nothing about PhysicsOverflow or the other sites using that software.

Complaints about MediaWiki?

@JohnDvorak Also I like federated homework crowdsourcing platforms, they make it easier for us to find when the students post their questions on web forums; and I also like non-English sites, I don't like the English-centric attitudes.
@JohnDvorak Not many, I quite like it, I'm just saying that I don't care that it's written in PHP, and, again, it's old, even older than SO, PHP was big back then.

sure, but you would still expect something in English on their portfolio...

@JohnDvorak Why? If SE stole all the English forums

true
Still, I wouldn't recommend using PHP in this day and age ... or ever.

11:33 AM
@JohnDvorak I wouldn't either
But I'm on the opinion that people should be allowed to use the tools they prefer, and judged by the results
Even if that tool is emacs

I do suppose you could run Q2A in a virtual machine and use it through an internal proxy?
I would like to see a site that uses Q2A and doesn't look the same as all other sites that do.
I mean... it's a good approach... if you're not the one to produce said results. I was considering what one to actually run the site might want.

11:48 AM
@JohnDvorak that's pretty much how most things are run these days

But isn't that usually because of security only, rather than because you want to use components written in different languages?
good point though

@JourneymanGeek so what's that in my right show? ;)
@QueenieGoldstein :D
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog three kids, so 1 egg for each kid every day.
In the past there were times we allowed them two eggs in a day, one for school in bread and one for dinner, but then realized it's not a good idea.
@JohnDvorak spaghetti code! Yummy.
Wait, isn't Facebook written with PHP?
Can explain a bit why it's so bad.

With code, lasagna is better than spaghetti... and in reality, too

@JohnDvorak isn't lasagna made of spaghetti layers, with meat?

same material, different shape

@Shadow10YearsWizard put it on and find out. If you dare.

spaghetti = wheat noodles. Lasagna = wheat sheets with minced meat.

3:17 PM
@JourneymanGeek it's warm.
@JohnDvorak oh. So same syntax as PHP but richer language.
lasagna.JS is a thing? checking

no, no, no. Only the shape matters in code.
Spaghetti code = too intertwined, lasagna code = too many layers

I see. And too many bugs?
Hey, not nice to call me "limited"!

Q: FAB Button for Support: Shadow is limited and cut off by iframe

WurmlochThe FAB Button shadow (bottom right) for the support chat on the Stack Overflow for Teams pages seems to be limited by the iframe it's embedded in. This leads to the shadow cutting off very unsightly.

:D

@Shadow10YearsWizard there's actually a standard maximum amount of bugs.

3:33 PM
The Food Defect Action Levels: Levels of Natural or Unavoidable Defects in Foods That Present No Health Hazards for Humans is a publication of the United States Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition detailing acceptable levels of food contamination from sources such as maggots, thrips, insect fragments, "foreign matter", mold, rodent hairs, and insect and mammalian feces. The publication details the acceptable amounts of contaminants on a per food basis, listing both the defect source (pre-harvest infection, processing infestation, processing contamination...
thiugh I guess your flour could be bugs

3:54 PM
maggots are not defects. They are meat sticks.
And mold? ... I do guess it depends on what kind of mold we are talking about. Some's good.

Blue cheese?

yep

Any cheese ;)

or camembert

@Tinkeringbell no mold on ordinary cheese. :)
Maybe it's from sour milk, but the color is white or yellow so I'm fine with those...
Can't bring myself to eat cheese with mold though.
hmm

4:03 PM
Mold is just tiny mushrooms

I wonder. Jon announced his own leaving. Why Tim didn't do the same? Might it mean he didn't leave in good terms?
@JohnDvorak too hairy
I don't want to eat hairy things. ;)

Cotton candy is hairy, too

@Shadow10YearsWizard There was a comment from Tim that he didn't want a big fuss ;)

@Tinkeringbell saying goodbye isn't big fuss.... can't shed tears on the internet, and even if we could, he won't get wet from it. :D

Kiwi, Peach, ...

4:07 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard I wouldn't start worrying unless told otherwise :) There's so much mistrust, you can do with a bit less of it ;)

@JohnDvorak only on the outside.

Well, it's kind of a hassle if you get all the inbox notifications forever :P

@JohnDvorak sugar hairs is fine. :)
@Tinkeringbell meh, it's sign of love.

Pigs, before the hairs get burnt off with an electric torch.

@JohnDvorak I don't eat pigs, but for different reasons. :D

4:08 PM
Cows, same thing

@Shadow10YearsWizard I'm just happy to have learned management was planning a post, and having it now :)

@JohnDvorak hairy cow??

Chicken is so hairy, that even the hair has hair and that hair has hair, too.

@JohnDvorak well, I don't eat it. ;0

Even wheat has hairs

4:10 PM
@Tinkeringbell still, something feels different.

one thing for sure doesn't have hair: earthworms

@Shadow10YearsWizard I think it's you, not the post.
gotta run, dinner... but I want to talk about this when I get back, not done with you yet :P

@JohnDvorak snakes?

that too

@Tinkeringbell lol my dinner is arriving soon too
Kids first, then wife and me.
And yes, it's probably just me, I left a comment earlier too explaining my downvote.
@Tink this time is wasn't false positive? (The call to dinner ;))
Also, how come the new Thank You isn't on the Community Bulletin? It's featured for hours... @Catija can you maybe kick the bulletin cache hard enough to make it show it as well? ;)
Maybe because of migration of other posts into it?
???

umm.... @Art @angussidney anything you can fix? ^

@Shadow10YearsWizard Nope. Took forever though, grandpa was over.
Anyhow. What I wanted to say about that post is that I find it sad people are downvoting it, either because Sara posted it or because they feel an official company post isn't as genuine as one written by a community member....
Part of that is because I stuck out my neck for still posting the official post... part of it is that I'm sad people would let their hatred of Sara go over appreciating Tim. In a few years, when new people arrive, they're gonna think Tim was some sorta villain hated by 1/3 of the stack if they don't know about Sara.
Vote for the post, not the person who posted it ;)

I just took it as a post by SE wishing their fellow CM/Evangelist goodbye. Aren't we supposed to vote on the content, not the author anyway?

I hope so! I even hope people will act like the old days, where a 'thank you' post would get an upvote almost automatically. Put aside old grudges about past insincere posts for a second, and just show appreciation :)

@Tinkeringbell I posted the reason, and JG censored it and went on a rant; then deleted my very brief comment; after forbidding further discussion from me. So that's the expected result.

@Rob Ehh, I saw the stuff Geek moved. I wouldn't mind discussing this with you or anyone else, but only if you're going to be constructive and don't speak in riddles.
Even this remark uses quite the language : censored, rant... I don't mind talking about it but please be kind, you're massively misrepresenting what happened.
Geek explained the reasons I had to recommend SE still post this. Closing and merging was originally my idea, an idea that others agreed with.

Rob

Understood.

8:12 PM
@Tinkeringbell If I recall correctly, there was one post architected by Sara but posted by someone else, out of that exact fear.
Anyway, it seems like Tim's staff rights haven't been removed yet, as they've typically been removed immediately for other staff. I guess this is a temporary oversight and they'll be removed on Monday, but...

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog I don't know about that. What I do know is that this site isn't going to work if the community only wants to see posts by certain employees and not by others.

They generally don't remove people (in my experience) until Monday.

@Spevacus and practically I do believe Sara was Tim's boss, so she seems appropriate

@Shadow10YearsWizard hmm, looks like it's working now. Not sure what happened.
