@Mark probably the shock from pandemic; people who never voted would probably think of doing so for "reasons", which I'm not too sure about but i feel it make sense they would...
does anyone here ever had more than the actual ping they have in reality? like i sometimes see 3 ping in my inbox, but once i look in the burger menu, i see only 2...

Multiple comments on the same post increment the number, but show as a single notification in the inbox dropdown

@NordTheLoftyWizard you mean notifications, yes. Pings are more for chat, IMO.
(since only they actually make ping noise, inbox notifications are silent. ;))

Notifications make ping noises on your phone, so long as your app is working

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog app is dead, so I don't consider it as an option anymore.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog oh, but when i checked there was only one additional comment? I guess it might be the last notifications that get shown again...

1:11 AM
And for me it was always muted anyway.

@Shadow10YearsWizard I see :o confound the term all the time.

Well, you can use it for comment reply, as you also use @-ping style, but that's about it.
Inbox notification for a new answer can't really be a "ping". :D
sdc ping pong

@Shadow10YearsWizard No such command 'ping'.

:(
As usual, broken avatar...
Looks like really minor issue, code-wise. (passing proper size parameters)

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog wait...is this a spam post or? How come they're posting a code block/generator in C on the meta SE o-O
first time i see this on meta

A: Why do users often ask blatantly off-topic questions here on Meta?

Sonic the K-Day HedgehogI'd say there are many reasons for this. One reason is that they end up following a link here, not realize that they are on a different site (since the site has the same interface), and then ask their (off-topic) question here. The number of off-topic questions asked per day for this reason sud...

It's enough of a problem that "asking programming questions on Meta" is an actual suspension reason here on this site

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog what's the procedure here? Does someone need to tell them off in the comment and close/delete it or just suspend their account as you said?

@NordTheLoftyWizard Just close vote, leave a comment if you like (I can't at the moment due to script troubles), downvote it to -3 so 20k+ users can vote to delete, then once it gets closed and if you have 20k+ rep, vote to delete.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog okay, done on the downvote (first time i actually downvoted something surprisingly) will vote to delete and comment as per your suggestion :)

Suspensions aren't usually handed out unless they repeatedly ask here. The thing is, question bans are much, much harder to hit here as they're adjusted to take into account downvotes for disagreement, so suspending takes the place of that.
@NordTheLoftyWizard As you have <3k rep, the best you can do is cast a recommend closure flag, unfortunately.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog yeah, noticed this too at the last second :D. Better than nothing

@NordTheLoftyWizard don't tell them off. Inform them
throwing in a link here is good - there's a few regular users who help with flagging and deletion votes.
We usually suspend for repeated OT questions, question repetition (which quite similar to but entirely unlike the previous issue) and rudeness.
the goal isn't to chase them off. Its to point them in the right direction

@JourneymanGeek The same rationale also applies to question bans on main sites: users receive warnings and then rolling rate limits before hitting one.

Morning. Should this comment be deleted as a link to unlicensed video rip?

probably more a matter for the anime SFF mods/natives? :D

@JourneymanGeek aren't piracy policies a network wide thing, mentioned in the TOS? And btw, as odd as it may seem, that's SciFi, not Anime
oh, nice. The one I was looking for

oops
the same
lol
maybe but you'd find more people who can flag there + the user might need advice

8:37 AM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе SciFi.SE has a more loose view than Anime.SE: scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/a/13047/36437

@MetaAndrewT. Don't get me wrong, but SciFi can say what they want and that wouldn't override network wide policies made by the staff. Furthermore, the comment is a direct link, not just a"search on ...." suggestion

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе and that's practically a decision which staff need to address :D
I mean, otherwise, we'd have network policies determined by twitter...
(too soon?)

@JourneymanGeek and that's why I came here

ah
which reminds me to check if the CM ad is still up :D

@JourneymanGeek ?

8:55 AM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе 1) I applied 2) I think SE badly needs more CMs 3) Morbid curiosity :D

9:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek 0) I don't know what Ad you are talking about in the first place :P

@JourneymanGeek yep, but only for certain values of "interested".
like, "facepalm" interested.

that's a natural response I guess
but I'm still curious, and "oh, lets give it a shot" interested, with a few things that make me facepalm...
but that's all on meta

99 little CM on the walll
Fire 2, hire one more
98 little CM on the wall....

9:46 AM
more like 4? :D
but ya. That's both a reason they need more, and why I'm curious over how its going to go

@JourneymanGeek depends if the new fresh recruits knew Shog in the past.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе also if they looked up the history of the role.
but we'll see I guess?

we'll see if SO becomes just a glorified demo of Teams. So far it seems like SE leadership understands that they need CMs to avoid unrest and drama, but I'm not yet convinced they actually understand the network

@JourneymanGeek the one job where knowledge about the role actually goes against your chances to get the job... and you probably would still be happy about it.

@MadScientist I've quite literally worn out a keyboard talking about this :D
We can't really "only" hire "internally" - we've had some great folks who were from 'outside' - but I think at some point, someone believed they could somehow run a business network without the community or... Q&A...
shades of a bit of what happened with /.

9:53 AM
If you use keyboards as opinion enhancers when talking to people I recommend a mechanical keyboard. They're much heavier so the argument will almost certainly end when you hit people with it. ;-)

and folks familiar with the network are useful...
@MadScientist oh, mine is. Cherry blues that are nearly silent from use, and its dying... :/
and yes.
It. will. hurt.
:D

Depends where you hit. ;)

I think a goal of like 50:50 insiders/outsiders for the CM role would make sense. You definitely also want an external view there

@MadScientist true, but with how... depleted the team is...
and the general mood of the community, keeping it open to insiders (on the short term) and ensuring its attractive to both (in the long term) seems a good idea
I don't think anyone will want to swap jobs unless they know there's a future in the role, or their job/boss sucks
@MadScientist ooh, so in order - hire more, work out what the job means (again...)
try to fix up what's been broken over the last half decade...

While I'm mostly frustrated with SE, I also think significant parts of the community are wrong about parts of how Q&A sites should work. Only having SE power users as CMs is dangerous as well

10:01 AM
@MadScientist Well - kiiindaaa
But an CM is necessarily going to need to get the mechanics of it
Of the current CMs, at least one isn't a SE power user, and he's great

But right now, an insider would be more useful because they can get up to speed much faster

yup
(and ugh, I don't want to sound like I'm lobbying for the job or anything)

@JourneymanGeek something totally unrelated. I once mentioned the chaos the server where I used to play Ultima Online went. After half of the first staff was forcefully removed over a fight between a dev and another staff member, I still stayed there and even helped with some minor community related tasks. Wouldn't do that again.

10:21 AM
:D
It takes a certain kinda person to want to do that sorta thing

2 hours later…
12:06 PM
@JourneymanGeek yeah, think i did decently on the comment :)
I did said "tell them off" but i might have confounded the meaning of that and "inform them", and just swapped the two sentences in my head...:D

Is the ceiling in here lower? - Using FF the backscroll on this page is non-existent, while using the Chrome browser or any other chat room the backscroll is at least a page and a half long.

1:46 PM
@Rob How many messages you see?
Maybe FF is requesting the mobile theme, which returns less messages.
Trivia time! What is this food?
(hint: not a cake. ;))

Crap from the bottom of the coffee machine?

@Shadow10YearsWizard meatloaf?

2:11 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard that poisonous rotten cheese that is probably considered a weapon of mass destruction in many countries and yet I can remember the name of?

@Rob my backscroll on FF is till 2:16
@Shadow10YearsWizard Do I see some legitimate swag in the background there?
Looks like a "la vache qui rit" piece that's gone bad

@Shadow10YearsWizard second guess:
there is a cake on the tin, must be edible.

@NordTheLoftyWizard nope
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе nope
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе nope. It's something edible.
@Tinkeringbell we have a winner in..... wrongest answer! :-D
It's edible, it's not from a coffee machine, and it has sweet taste. ;)

2:27 PM
Halva?

I bet @Mithical knows what it is.
@Luuklag YES!!!
How... did you know? lol

Yay to google ;)

Ha? For me it show "spoon".

Googled israeli triangle food ;)
and halva looked about right on colour and consistency ;)

2:28 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard Well it looks like that.

@Luuklag smart!! Actually it comes as a square block, I just cut a small piece.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Rotten halva you mean? Or is it "earth" flavored?

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе cocoa flavor added, originally it's white.

The color was exactly what made me assume it was not halva

It's from sesame grains.

2:30 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard I'm in investigator mode. Was working on moving a WP plug-in forum from one DB/hosting/URL to another

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе hence the trivia, otherwise it would indeed be too easy. :D
@Luuklag rofl.... good! :P

No, horrible!
It was probably quicker to manually move each DB entry over

What's the DB? Why moving?

Well it is part of one website, but hosted on another
Mysql , on WP
I finally managed to move all posts themselves
and link the answers to the questions
but now the plug-in is acting out
so probably just going to do a re-install of that someday
Too many people tried before and failed
I think each question might be in the DB 4 or 5 times
yay for people restoring back-ups when they fail...

@Luuklag yes! It's my CoS - Cup of Shekels (and funny fact... "cos" in Hebrew means cup) which is actually the Stack Overflow mug, which is used to store single Shekel coins for unknown time and usage. Here is a picture from above:

2:35 PM
Nice one!

It was bit more full, during Corona I withdrew some coins and didn't put new ones.
Shog!!!
Hello!
You see money and you arrive. Hmm.... :P

hahaha

@MadScientist I agree, but... I also think "power user" / "insider" vs "newb" / "outsider" is maybe too simplistic a model for solving that problem.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Wasn't there a stereotype about greediness? xD

@Shadow10YearsWizard waves

2:37 PM
@Luuklag hmm?

You need people who understand how the network works, but even folks who've been around for years - "insiders" - have often only a limited understanding there; it takes them time to learn what they don't know, albeit less time than someone who hasn't used the network at all. One of the biggest advantages they bring may not be knowledge of the mechanics so much as connections within existing communities, but even that isn't a given.

@Shog9 waves back

At the same time, "outsider" covers a lot of ground...
Are we talking someone with a deep history with one of the communities served by the network who just hasn't spent much time on these sites? They'll have to pick up both knowledge of how these sites work and a lot of subtle tenets of community management, but they'll tend to be good at working with the people who are here.

@Shadow10YearsWizard something about jews being greedy. But lets not open a racist can of worms

...Or someone with a lot of experience working with communities but who has no experience with these communities? Their existing knowledge is adaptable, but maybe not directly applicable, and they'll have to both re-learn some stuff and develop some new relationships. They may bring novel insights, but also inapplicable habits.

2:38 PM
@Shog9 it certainly is. And there are very different kinds of "insiders" in the network for sure. But I think most of us that have been here long do tend to develop a bit of tunnel vision at times

@Luuklag ohh.... lol. Yeah. :D

everyone has tunnel vision in some area ;-)

@Shog9 let's cut to the chase..... you think @Journeyman fits for the role? If you could, would you recommend him?

I mean... How many "community" folks do you see floating around who think the role begins and ends with writing blog posts?

I think he does, big time. :)
@Luuklag huh, without primary key? That's bad.

2:40 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard I think JG fits into the category of "has a lot of existing connections, understands mechanics" - which would save a LOT of training right now. Also JG tends to not be an ass when someone points out that he doesn't know something, which... Is hella useful

@Shog9 super true.

@Shadow10YearsWizard - Shog was one of the two ex-employees who kinda talked me into applying.

JG would still require months to get up to speed. I can't really think of too many people who wouldn't, and the membership in that small group are... Almost never on the market anyway.

@Shadow10YearsWizard people just inserted one table into another, just numbering ID's as they went.

Dunno, he has worked so hard, been through so much... he just deserves this role. :)

2:41 PM
@Shog9 Ewww. Blog post are icky.

@JourneymanGeek oh.. I see.

@Shadow10YearsWizard If I went on the basis that I "deserved" or "was perfect" for the role, I wouldn't be very much good.

blog posts are a tool. Like a hammer. Y'know what they say about the man with a hammer...

they hurt themselves trying to tighten nuts?

@Shog9 I have five, so I should know! :D

2:42 PM
(spent the other evening trying to fix a door lock using 5 different hammers)

@Shog9 Was it stuck and it needed to be loose, or was it loose and needed to be stuck? In neither case the hammer is the appropriate tool ;)

@Luuklag huh. Smart people. Very. lol

@Luuklag bought a truck where someone had punched out the lock cylinder, so the sheet metal around it was all bent up.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Yep, just some receptionist that thinks she knows what she's doing.

@Shadow10YearsWizard I'd be careful with that line of thinking. It can impact your relationship with people if you become frustrated that someone you think should have been chosen, doesn't get chosen... and you don't know all of the variables. :)
@Shog9 He makes holes in walls where they shouldn't exist?

2:45 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard I also intend to stay on and .... be a pain as I have the last few years if I don't get chosen

I think it's more important that you be a pain even if you do get chosen

@Shog9 well, internal pain vs external pain

See, here's the thing: regardless of who gets hired, of where their experience lies... If SE is serious about community, one hire doesn't get 'em very far.
Aug 29 at 17:30, by Shog9
Assuming the CM team expansion isn't all just talk, I'd like to see 4 strong community members hired and two experienced CMs from outside, all over the next 12 months. I think that's about the right mix. Hiring can then slow to maybe 1 / 6 months to grow the team more slowly in the face of attrition, allowing institutional knowledge to rebuild.

but If I do get chosen - it would be a professional pain in the ass, rather than a hobbyist one :D

@Shog9 well if it's a truck one hammer would suffice, a sledgehammer ;)

2:47 PM
that was one of the hammers

@Shog9 Do you think there's four community members who want it at this point?

@Shog9 part of the thing is, I feel like its an easier sell to the external hires, if they got strong community hires.

also a deadblow, a tack hammer, a round-head hammer I used for shaping, and a plain ol' claw hammer I used along with a large socket for further shaping
forgot that I broke my ball peen hammer, else that would've been really useful

but to get strong community hires, they need to get further along with fixing things
I also feel like the current round of hiring is taking longer than it did in the past ._.

@Catija I think there are more than 4 who could be convinced to take it, yes
whether there are 4 who would apply... I cannot say

2:49 PM
@Shog9 I'm almost curious who the rest are

This is a situation where actual recruitment would be a good idea

(and cough what would be appropriate leverage :D )

@JourneymanGeek ..... this now IS odd. I would have assumed the exact opposite.

@JourneymanGeek I think Shog already mentioned his hammer collection

something I learned over the years: an awful lot of folks will never step up, but will be amazing if you just ask them

2:50 PM
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе \o/
@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе The other guy talked me into it the last two times too!

Oh... There's another factor here. Community folks are in high demand right now. There's no reason to assume that external hires will be easier

@Shog9 to be blunt...
the company has been shedding folks in the community team for years

if you're looking for folks with a lot of applicable experience (which they should be), then they're gonna have to pay for that, regardless of where they look

It would take a certain kind of... optimist to apply, and an even bigger optimist to drop a stable job to move over.

@JourneymanGeek I said this before, but... So far as I can discern, there was no plan to continue having a community team as of the start of this year.

2:53 PM
@Shog9 its an older problem
but not particularly reassuring.

There's more than one problem

@Shog9 you don't need one as a SaaS company

yup
none of which makes it easier.

ALL of the teams at SE have shed people over the years. All but one of them made a concerted effort to rebuild those teams when that became possible.

@Shog9 ... Well, I mean, that's the issue. I don't know that'd ever happen.

2:55 PM
If not, then that says something too

@Catija on the short run? its hard.

Folks have been asking all year long - including most recently in responses to the CEO's post - if SE is serious about community work. I think it's clear that at the start of the year SE was not. If that's changed, an active recruitment effort would be a good indicator of that.

My almost baseless speculation is that SE management won't want to hire mods because they're seen as too critical of the company and too attached to the way the community sees itself

@MadScientist ironically, that's exactly why mods are good :D
but its also a need to balance between the two - a good chunk of the SMEs and maybe even decision makers for your product are going to be SE users.
but yeah, we're a demanding lot at the same time - but a lot of the stuff we ask for is things that might help make for better things in the long run.

Imma just drop this here...
> When we’re feeling a little down, researchers have also shown we pay more attention to social cues, helping us get along better with others. We also tend to treat others more fairly when we’re not feeling at our best.

3:00 PM
@Shog9 Lets just not make human emotions a target for managers
on which they will be accounted

@Shog9 that "positive work culture" sounds creepy.

tell me about it

@Shog9 In which case my workplace must be VERY productive

@Shog9 that is as stupid as an old PM we had that used to claim that "a stressed developer is more productive, so it is my duty to keep them that way"

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Couldn't agree more, making me stressed usually ends me up here xD

3:02 PM
both are stupid. As @Luuklag says, it should not be someone else's job to manipulate emotions - much less dictate them
If folks are sad, stressed, burned out... Or unrealistically cheery, optimistic, naive... Your job as a manager is to figure out what in your scope contributes to that and do what you can to resolve it, NOT try to "fix" the people themselves.

@Shog9 Well not entirely true IMHO. If a situation at home makes an employee stressed etc. you might want to think if you can help them somehow. Perhaps giving them some paid leave etc. to sort things out. That could be much more economical then just letting them be.

@Luuklag IOW, you give them the tools they need to do what they need to do.

And I know, we lost about half a dozen colleagues under our previous director due to burn-out related stuff. None since our new director, which is a much more compassionate person.
@Shog9 yeah indeed

(I shouldn't need my family to be in shambles to get PTO)

@Shog9 like the mess with poor kasra?

3:07 PM
Burnout is a great example, since by the time it shows up things tend to have already been broken for a looooong time; if you're waiting for folks to just collapse on the job before deciding, "hey maybe they need more influence and autonomy in their work" - it's better than never deciding that, but... Only barely.

@Shog9 how vacations/PTO are handled in the US always seemed extremely weird to me, it's so different from what we have here

@Shog9 Or as I've been joking - that people in my workplace have shelf lives...
@MadScientist ugh. I get 14 days + OIL for holidays. My non contract direct hire co-workers get 7 days confirmed, 7 days "flexi" which they definately can take and "unlimited" flexi on manager approval with lots of constrainrs

@Shog9 We have all the autonomy we want, perhaps that's the problem ;)

@JourneymanGeek I get 30 days, and that's pretty much standard here

and because we're TWO PEOPLE SHORT...
I need to plan around my co-workers

3:11 PM
No-one stops me from clocking in 13 hours like yesterday
@MadScientist One of our co-workers kid fell ill this spring. My boss was just like yeah, just let me know when your ready to get back to work

(so yes, I'm used to working in extremely depleted teams :D )

@Luuklag bigger danger is if someone pressured you to do that

@Shog9 well yeah I kinda am, because deadlines you know

yeah

And other people doing half-assed jobs, that make me take six steps back every step forward

3:14 PM
flexible time is great. "you can work as much as you want as long as this unreasonable target is hit" ain't flex time

Well guys, cya around, gonna go pick up the kids

wave

I'm headed to bed :D
got work tommorrow and a 2 hour commute if I don't decide to splurge and get a cab/uber/grab thing

@Luuklag I was seriously thinking about creating a secret society for "Mud fender developers".
First, we congregate.
Next, the world new order, Illuminati style.

3:29 PM
Sigh... I turn around for an hour to write a meta post and I miss half the weekly dose of chat...

lol
@Tinkeringbell idea: write userscript that detects certain user chatting (in this case, Shog) and alert you somehow. For example playing some loud audio... :D

🏴

@JohnDvorak can your script with the colors also be extended to have audio files played when the user post a chat message? ;)

@Shadow10YearsWizard Nah. Just reading back is enough... :)
Just surprising. Nothing happens here all week and then boom XD

hehe but you can't take part now...

3:37 PM
Doable, yes. Getting the audio files, up to you. I won't be using that feature ;)

Shog is now gone for another 6-8 weeks. :(

@Shadow10YearsWizard So?

HTML5 can handle audio files quite well, though I've never used that feature myself.

@JohnDvorak lol.. well some might like it. :D
@Tinkeringbell well, if you didn't want to take part anyway guess it's all good. ;)

@Shog9 ... This just seems like an obvious thing... if everything is magical in my life, I'm more likely to be steeping in it and assuming everyone's life is as magical... but if things are rocky, I'm more likely to see the struggles in other people's lives. It's... not absolute - nothing is - but it makes sense and, anecdotally, I think there's lots of examples of it.

3:40 PM
How should it differ from the sound notifications built into the chat already?

@Shadow10YearsWizard Reading back, I have nothing useful to add so... not so much a question of not wanting as not having anything to add :P

Someone who thinks "My job is amazing and all of my coworkers are amazing" is more likely to assume that the others at their company are having similar experiences, so they're not attuned to people possibly struggling - unless they're looking for it. But someone who's struggling "My boss is terrible and it seems like my ideas aren't appreciated" may even seek out others to see if they feel the same but it also seems like they'd recognize when others do.

@JohnDvorak by the sound itself, main motive is to assign something special to people who don't come here often, so when they do arrive and chat, you won't miss it.

A: Workplace gossip makes me uncomfortable - how do I deal with it?

Shog9Feed into it! Gossip is just another word for "information exchange". It only becomes a problem when it's harmful or incorrect. Folks naturally want to share information about each other and the company they work for, and trying to suppress it is futile; indeed, if you develop a reputation for sh...

assignable to each user separately? Would it be okay if I required the script user to supply an audio file in the form of a URL?

3:45 PM
Also, not talking about pings.... the audio will be triggered upon every message (or for one message per few minutes to not make you go crazy ;)), not when you're pinged.

You can configure the chat room to scream at every message already.

@JohnDvorak really?? Still, same scream for each user, so useless. :)
@JohnDvorak probably, yes. I also never did anything like that. :)
Just a wild idea inspired by Tink. :D

I know, I'm a bad influence.

"walking conundrum" made me think of a dozen potential puns on the latter word...nice post though @Shog9

4:03 PM
report received...
Dinner is late today :/

@Tinkeringbell why? /:

@Shadow10YearsWizard No clue. Mom is probably making some complicated tasteless thing again.

We had blackout yesterday for few hours during the day, no microwave or oven, so kids got pizza for lunch. ;)

I don't envy your kids :P

@Tinkeringbell hey! I'll report you to your mother. :D

4:05 PM
But honestly, I can't wait until my place is finished and I can just stick to cooking simple things that actually taste like something XD

My mother didn't cook since March. :(

Mine cooks almost every evening, she won't let me do it.
Ah. Dinner's ready. Bye!

Since Corona began, no ordinary family meetings anymore. We meet outside, with basic food, not cookes.
@Tinkeringbell good luck with that! :D

Correction... It's not really ready

@Shog9 The most amusing part there is the 7-year gap between Abby's comments.

4:18 PM
@Tinkeringbell photoshop, the spoons are fake

@Tinkeringbell quick, hide that picture before you get suspended for not using the official SE cheese cutting board!

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе we have a cheese cutting board?!

also, for added reference, the parrot did this one.

Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard @Luuklag Thanks for your replies, everything is fixed upon my return. Previously I could backscroll barely a single line, now it's back to approximately a screen and a half.

@NordTheLoftyWizard for further reference

Q: Who cut the cheese?

Tim Post UPDATE: JNat will be sending out emails to collect addresses from the lucky users getting a cheese board — be on the lookout for those! :) We've moved quite a bit of stuff around this year, and you've been mostly patient with us while we overhauled our information architecture. This was no triv...

2020 has brought changes and challenges for everyone—including those in leadership roles. Management style and decision-making have taken on new significance during these testing times as staff’s quality of life—as well as company growth—hang in the balance. In this newly remote world, it can be difficult to figure out the best ways to support and…

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе I'm eating cheese right now, so i found that funny...nice

5:03 PM
How many requests per second can I send to SE api?

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе The cheese cutting board is for cheese, not hutspot ;)

Q: How many requests per second can I send to SE api (maximum)?

Victor VosMottorHow many requests per second can I send to Stack Exchange api (maximum)?

@Tinkeringbell Scandal! How you dare eating something that is not cheese!

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе Simple. Open your mouth, put in food, chew, swallow, repeat.

@VictorVosMottor just don't go down that route. I've linked two duplicates for you.

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе If you thought I was serious, you have the bigger problems.

@Tinkeringbell yep, to quote Vizzini...
> "But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you. Are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet, or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given.
I’m not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me."

> An enemy hits you, that's what he's your enemy for.
You turn the other cheek, you feel like a saint, and life will just go on.
An enemy does what he is for, it's the friend that will betray you.

5:30 PM
@rene thanks but I didn't find another route in that question. Could you please explain me what do you mean?

I mean that you don't need to try to do many requests per seconds.

But if I need update info dynamically?

On the Stack API, right?

honor the throttle (send to you in the backoff field) and that are integers in seconds. I often get 10 returned as backoff, meaning I have to wait 10 seconds

5:35 PM
Ah! Thanks a lot, @rene!

At best all SE sites allow you per IP 80 calls per minute, a tad more on cheap routes.
And it is highly dynamic. If you make the HA-proxy angry you'll get a 2 minute IP block, that gets longer if you keep trying ...
I've blocked my self once for 30 minutes that way. For all access to the SE network, sites, chat, API, SEDE

Rob
6:15 PM
@rene Other people and myself have been blocked for 1/2 an hour for manual web browsing, fortunately they tweaked the balancer a bit to make it harder to trip manually.

You browsed a lot then ....

Rob
Nimble fingers.

@Tinkeringbell OMG. You cloned my wooden [name of something you put hot things on]! And the serving spoon for soup (?) too!! Got exactly those as well. :D
Will take pic later to compare.

@Shadow10YearsWizard That's not the one for soup :P That's the one for gravy :P

@Tinkeringbell so, when was it ready? Why she called you when it wasn't ready yet? Or did you just assume it was ready? ;)

6:19 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard It was ready at 10 minutes past 5, I was called at 5 minutes past :P

@Tinkeringbell ohh.... right. lol. I never use it, so didn't really know. It's from my wife's parents (both passed away last year.)
@Tinkeringbell waste of whole 5 minutes! That's horrible. :P

Exactly! :P

Rob
Easy to trigger by going to profile, switching to child meta, clicking most recent post, etc. - whenever you can click through fast, barely allowing the page to load; on a few sites in a row (obviously no time to have read a small portion of the information presented). Then you're toast. 🥂

What did you do in those long 5 minutes, in addition to taking the pic? @Tink ;)

Rob
Worked on the pecks.

6:22 PM
@Rob toast is yummy
@NordTheLoftyWizard yeah many people got it from SE in a fun contest. Think even over 100.
Oh, @Derpy already linked.

@Shadow10YearsWizard Unwrapping from my blanket, walking downstairs, and taking the picture + uploading it on mobile XD

@Νеvеrꭑoꭇе not wise to put hot stuff on the cheese cutting board, it will cause the cheese to bubble and melt.
@Tinkeringbell So 4 minutes + 20 seconds + 2 seconds + 8 seconds... still 30 lost seconds. ;)
@Rob blame FF then?

6:38 PM
@Shadow10YearsWizard Those were probably spent in silent contemplation then :P

Rob
@Shadow10YearsWizard Maybe, but it wasn't updated during that time, and worked on the other servers. I'd be more inclined to think someone was fiddling with the CSS and removed the scrollbar.

Hey, can anyone tell me really quick: I know that there's a "controversial review" automatic flag raised on answers in Low Quality Posts if there are as many or more reviews in favor of deletion than Looks OK reviews. Is the same flag also raised on questions in the same queue, if there are as many or more reviews in favor of closure than Looks OK reviews?
For context, the queue is designed so that occasionally, a review can be dismissed as Looks OK even if that's not a majority of reviews.
Because all the evidence I've seen is that it's only raised on answers, and if it isn't raised on questions, it makes the problem here much bigger.
See the "Update" in my answer to the "problem" question above for why.
