hey, still here yeah :) @ShadowWizardWearingMask

If SE management is for real, and this new love for drawing new authoritarian red lines reflects the wishes of a signifcant portion of the population (it probably does but not homogeneously), then it saddens me that it's going in the same direction as our theocracy.
That said, is the downvote survey a sneaky attack on the feature again, or is it supposed to be something helpful? I haven't been paying attention.

@M.A.R. There's a Meta.SO post on it

@SonictheMaskedWerehog I skimmed it, didn't tell me anything new much, except it would affect the downvote patterns on the main site
One possible scenario is a hasty revamp of the downvote feature, changing its name to something "nicer", or several "nicer" things, based on the survey
I mean, it obviously is asking the wrong question, so off the mark that it's revealing about the intent: @Downvoters, what do you think is wrong with you?
But I may be too pessimistic.
N.B.: it's probably not the sociable, friendly looking devs behind the meta posts that suggest or even contribute to the discussions about these "brand image" stuff.
The sign-up page is also jarring. While it's not as fundamental to the noob mindset as Sebastian suggests, it perfectly sums up how the company advertises the Q/A now: Funny lol game wit pts haha only 1% can solve this 😩😩😩
The "thanks" emoji post is at -1111 now. chef kiss
@ShadowWizardWearingMask French fries

3:34 AM
@M.A.R. how did you reply to this old message? asking since I've yet to manage to do that somehow
unless it's not too old, i can still reply but, if it's old enough it load in the transcript, then I'm unsure how to reply to it

@NordTheLoftyWizard dropdown arrow to the right when hovering on the post and "reply"

@Rubiksmoose right x) that's what i use usually too, but sometimes i don't think always see it on old messages

@NordTheLoftyWizard I think it should appear.

@Rubiksmoose yep, works here :D

huzzah!

3:39 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'd say potato.
@Rubiksmoose been a while i heard someone say this :o

How long does it take to recalculate rep?
I coincidentally found an account which was to be unsuspended in 10seconds, from then, I have been waiting (currently 3 minutes) to see the rep

I don't know. It might only happen once the person logs in again?

maybe not i guess, then meta.SE would be full of bug reports like "account not suspended but still at rep1"

There are a few of those, but they were due to r/a flags... Hmm.
9
A: Why hasn't my reputation gone back up from 1 after a suspension?

Nick CraverWhen coming out of suspension your reputation is recalced...we run these recalcs once an hour, you simply have to wait for that to happen. In this case Robert recalced you...but the same would have happened automatically 16 minutes later.

I don't think there's many people waiting to see someone get unsuspended anyways either.

Right, but I found it as a coincidence so I was gazing at it to shoot from 1 to 10k (or maybe more)

Like I said, there's probably not that many people who do, which was to explain your remark about there being no bug reports. This one is also easy to find, just search for 'suspension reputation 1'.

6:02 AM
when people find suspended profiles, do they also say
"xyz is sus"
recalced in 13 min

6:41 AM
sometimes i wish there was a dedicated se for python...
posting things on stackoverflow when it come to python attract too much downvotter and low quality answers...or maybe that's just me? :/

@NordTheLoftyWizard your questions arent downvoted?

@QueenieGoldstein they aren't; was talking more generally (not directly about me)

when looking at the big picture, for python related questions, it's just not the perfect place to ask/get answers imo
having a dedicated se for it would be better
would be easier to moderate too...I noticed (this time for myself and also some others) questions never having an answer even though the bar was very low (and the comment indicated it was easy enough to answer)

Those kind of post then either get deleted or closed, even when decently written (on the post part)

One of your questions can be duped (9 year old)
the time.time() one

6:55 AM
@NordTheLoftyWizard But isn't that mostly because all easy questions already have 99 duplicates on SO?

it's printing dynamically in single line I suppose?

@QueenieGoldstein yeah

Exactly, the same happens on math.SE
112
Q: Remove and Replace Printed items

Alex I was wondering if it was possible to remove items you have printed in Python - not from the Python GUI, but from the command prompt. e.g. a = 0 for x in range (0,3): a = a + 1 b = ("Loading" + "." * a) print (a) so it prints >>>Loading >>>Loading. >>>Loading.. >>>Loading.....

This answers?

I guesss that's true yeah :)
But that's only _if_ it's truly related to a dupes, though it depend if the OP mention why it isn't and if it look correct enough
@QueenieGoldstein yep, seems to relate :O
surprised to see this on math.se
should use it more often as someone once told me

@NordTheLoftyWizard I don't think a separate community solves downvotes or low quality posts... instead, making it easier to moderate might mean you only make those worse ;)
Starting a new site will mean those questions will be okay for a few weeks, until every one of them is asked again, the core group that's there gets tired of beginner questions again, and the rules/scope of the new site changes to be just as strict as SO ;)

6:58 AM
A seperate community for python will dissolve soon. Pure python programming questions are hard to find, people usually integrate other things and run into bugs

I mean, try and compare the quality of answers between stackoverflow and se, for example, when it come to the unix counterpart:

You'll notice a clear difference in moderation, quality, etc between SO and unix.se.
@Tinkeringbell True. I guess it might attract lots of dupes :/
@QueenieGoldstein yeah, that's true

infact, even questions about Quantum computing can be found on physics SE
even though there is one QC.se

@NordTheLoftyWizard Each site is different when it comes to that, that's true.

@QueenieGoldstein Thanks for the link btw, didn't notice it when i searched prior to posting the question...

I have tried to replicate what you did...4 years ago when I was making a memory game on python lolol

7:07 AM
nice :D
I mentioned that example in my post because i wanted to "predict" the speed of a count/timer
I found three ways to do it but wanted to ask first to see example (did on another post), though that didn't really get any answers :/
guess it'll be a nice challenge
(usage of the word "predict" is probably not the right one here, but yeah)

You cannot get the answer
The question is not too clear

hmm, i guess it is

You're trying to find the precision of timer?

That's the decimal digits
probably I saw 8

7:11 AM
@QueenieGoldstein my bad, i meant "speed", not precision

7 it is --> 0000124
@NordTheLoftyWizard Can you calculate the speed of time?

@QueenieGoldstein basically it'll be like if you time a counter for Nth seconds, and see how much it output, then you'll say "X in Nth seconds"
that's one way i found on how to do it

So you're trying to find the error?
You can try,
l=[]
a=0
while True:
del a
a=time.time()
a-=time.time()
l.append(a)
Then get some data, maybe 500 lines?

yes and no; basically there a counter that's running on a site, but since it's on a logged in account, and *it change* depending on certain factor, I'm trying to copy the speed of that counter and replicate it "offline"

Then i can periodically update it by checking the speed again later on (the site ban very easily, which is why i can't always check the counter or keep it in sync all the time locally)
the way i found to do it is to just watch/record the count for Nth time, then base the speed on that

check later and update if changed; it's not perfect but seems like it could work

I didnt understand it properly...still

I found some data:

>>> l=[]
>>> for i in range(1,21):
l.append(time.time())

>>> l
[1602832900.6099102, 1602832900.6099102, 1602832900.6099102, 1602832900.6099102, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474, 1602832900.6099474]
You can see that it is more precise than what I first predicted
@NordTheLoftyWizard ^

7:23 AM
@QueenieGoldstein indeed :o look pretty good

And,....I didnt expect it to be so fast LOL
there are 16 entries for the same time

@QueenieGoldstein that maybe explain why it's so fast? :D
oh yeah, while I'm at it, any experience in seeking/with offset in python?

Well, I have an AI which has mastered Quantum Computing, so it's basically recording the Cs 133 atom

@QueenieGoldstein sounds interesting. have a public repo? :O

No, it's a secret project

7:26 AM
:o secret
well if you ever do release something, I'm here (and interested) :DD

@SonictheMaskedWerehog You don't have blacklist manager privileges, but I've created PR#5052 for you.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog watched it in CHQ just a split second before your PR showed up

@RyanM Could you please put a type duplicate on it?

I don't have GitHub set up to do that yet, alas :-( I asked for someone else to, though

And yeah...the account that posted that is a spam account too: meta.stackexchange.com/users/869141/code-and-pixels

@Rob done

@NordTheLoftyWizard I had a link to the transcript and I clicked the down arrow to the left and clicked 'reply'.
That or I just scrolled up shrug

@M.A.R. Excuses, Excuses... :D
(Happens to me all the time)

Like, I wasn't thinking when I replied to that message
I see no one has shared their wisdom on my shallow but cynical take on the recent events
Fine by me, there are jollier topics to talk about
Like this mind-blowing article I'm reading from 2018 where they treat PKU with engineered E. coli.
BuT GMO eViL

How are you folks doing these days?
I've been busy appearing busy

@M.A.R. mostly worn out, and with the standard number of kidneys

2:07 PM
@JourneymanGeek Phenylketonuria
@JourneymanGeek Pssht, commonfolk and their inferior two-kidney problems
I'm watching The Boys and it's really awesome, for the most part.

@M.A.R. yes, you fancy folks and your three kidneys

Great commentary on the brewing nationalist tendencies in the US
It's a bit biased, but eh

nothing interesting is without bias :D

Well it's pretty gory

As was the source material

But if you want Karl Urban with a thick British accent
@user400654 The first episodes involve this tool you mention

Anything Karl Urban is good :D

i watched the first season, it was decent
first few episodes of 2nd, waiting till they're all out to watch the rest of s2

I'm at S2E2
Anthony Starr is killing it
I mean, everyone else is doing what they tend to do, but this guy

@M.A.R. busy pretending to be busy

2:13 PM
Oh, it's Antony
English spelling eyeroll

Ant On Y
Poor Y.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I think you'd love The Boys. Check it out.
I'm wondering if I should watch The Witcher.

@M.A.R. I prefer The Girls, but thanks for the suggestion.
:D
@M.A.R. if you played the game and enjoyed it, then you probably shouldn't watch. :)

I'm not a fan of the games, and the books don't seem to offer anything extraordinary. Just a 90's antihero with commentary on discrimination. We definitely don't have those elsewhere
I mean I haven't played the games. Not a gamer.

2:17 PM
_ ... _

@M.A.R. good, so watch it without fear or it ruining the memories of a good game. :P

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well I mean is it any good?
Anything to offer besides GoT-style action scenes?
Random internet people, a truly authoritative source, have claimed that its unbalanced in terms of character development

@M.A.R. dunno, since I played the game and enjoyed it, I don't dare to watch.
But expect there's plenty of spilled blood, vulgarity, profanity, and female nudity in there.
That's the core of the game, after all. :D

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, I don't care about any of that. What's the ultimate message, what are the ulterior motives of the characters? Other than just "look at me, I'm so edgy and dark, everyone wants to kill me, that's so edgy and dark"

@M.A.R. well, in the game Geralt is torn between conflicts, and the bottom line is there's no way to have it all. "Life sucks" can sum the game plot very well. No idea about the TV show though...

Hey people! Any Ubuntu users here?
If yes, please do let me know your Ubuntu story here:

Q: What's your Ubuntu story?

technastic_tcAsk Ubuntu is 10 years young now! And the community is always growing. It's time to celebrate, isn't it? We came to Ask Ubuntu to ask questions about Ubuntu because many of us were noobs at using it, or at least I was. But the question which many of us don't ask ourselves is "What's your Ubuntu s...

@technastic_tc I'm not sure 'used for work' would make a very interesting answer ;)

@Tinkeringbell Everyone's story is unique. No issues if it's boring..

No but that's really all I would post, those three words :P
It's a good question though, and I hope some other people here have more interesting answers :)

@Tinkeringbell hmm... a comment on the post would suffice in your case I guess..
@Tinkeringbell :)

Have fun and uh... Congratulations, I guess :D

2:57 PM
@Tinkeringbell Congrats for what? The decade anniversary?

Thanks!

@rene I didn't get you.

yeah, that is my sense of humor. Sorry.

@rene OK..

I do run Ubuntu on 3 of our servers. But I'm more in love with Debian.

@rene oh..

My router runs ubuntu :D

Sorry, our server runs on CentOS instead :(

@JourneymanGeek :)
@MetaAndrewT. hmm.

@MetaAndrewT. yes, I have one of those as well. Utterly confusing if I'm switching between the two flavors back and forth.
I'm not a sysadmin, let alone a unix sysadmin
