2:00 PM
(Stealing @Mithi's analogy here ;D)

@Spevacus melt the fork, attach to the hole, let it cool. Job done.
:P

:D

@ShadowWizardWearingMask friend?

@Ollie taking the burden off the shoulder of a friend? (as reason to become mod)

2:01 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask no.

If someone wishes to step down, I'll step up. Or just throw myself into the election :P
@ShadowWizardWearingMask how are you going to melt the fork?
How many mods are there on Meta?
Three in this room, I think

On Meta SE? Three.

@Ollie lazer eyes. 👀 Duh!

Ah.

2:04 PM
Journeyman Geek, Tinkeringbell, and Chris F.

@Ollie two in this room, one is... Not publicly active.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Lasers? Look me in the eye young man!

@Ollie meta is a bit strange - there were no elections
I literally got an email one day asking if I was interested

@JourneymanGeek and how do you like it?

@Ollie snort

2:05 PM
I don't!

I quit once, and came back due to sheer spite :D

Baaa.

*waits for JMG to say Woof*

@JourneymanGeek and Tink took some time off, yeah. But you all just come back. ;)

2:06 PM
arf

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'd like to reach 10K before I start modding.
Depending on the outcome of the election.

that's usually a good idea

Oh no.

@Ollie that can take long time.

2:08 PM
Reaching 10k?

also if other people start nagging the current mods over when the next election is so you can stand...

You can get quite a bit of stuff done with 10k and 20k tools. The diamond helps with cleaning the messes the reputation-based tools can't, and those are typically rather rare.

stand.

@Spevacus I'd still really like to earn the diamond.

Hmm... Think I missed some pingz.

2:09 PM
@Shadow good :D

🚽

@M.A.R. how did you know I was smiling?? Did you hack my brain again?
@user400654 for me? Thanks!

It's a monkey moderator!
:D
@ShadowWizardWearingMask that might be our thing for brown.
Or does it have to be more...

@Ollie All moderators are monkeys, but not all monkeys are moderators.
Only those with guns.

@gnat OK, thanks.

2:14 PM
@terdon I thought you hate guns :D

@Ollie looks more like a mask... ;)

@Shadow yours? :P

@terdon good days of Tim Post shooting down trolls...

@ShadowWizardWearingMask aren't we still doing that?

@Ollie it already is. ;)

2:16 PM
Hmm...

@Ollie not like Tim

@JourneymanGeek I do. I was thinking of um, someone whose name I can't remember, whose avatar is a monkey with a gun and whose profile mentions something like what I said above.

He had a good gun

@ShadowWizardWearingMask wait for mee...

Sniper Rifle
2

2:17 PM
Ta!

@terdon Mr. Post

Ah, is it Tim?
No, no it's not. It's someone else and I just can't remember the username dammit!

@Ollie no, my mask is bit small and less blue.
@terdon context?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask The user's avatar is a monkey with a gun and the user is (or used to be) a mod. Not sure of the site. A geeky one, I think.

baba is being targeted by SE's best sniper :D

2:20 PM
jcolebrand!

lol, I kept searching and all the time, they were right here in this very chat room!

@jcolebrand is pingable.

2:21 PM
There we go! That's what I was thinking of! :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask There was no need for "again"

just finished the second book in broken earth

and now my neck hurts because I forgot to stand up for 3 hours

2:32 PM
@Magisch Dude, you need to strengthen your book zen muscles
I sit down for five or six and I don't feel a thing

I also might start talking in geological terms

I mean if I did that consecutively
@Magisch You seem fine to me

Have you read the broken earth trilogy yet?

Nein

you should

2:34 PM
I know

It's really **** brilliant
read it right now

No

@Feeds .... Somenoe?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I was curious what went bing that I couldn't find ... stupid tabs

The Bringer of Pings strikes again!

2:44 PM
@JourneymanGeek of a common mistakes.

@jcolebrand not this room. She warbles
@JohnDvorak not sure if clever or misteak

Why yes, I do miss steak

I just had chicken kebab for lunch

Ding, Ding the sound rings
Searching all my tabs for pings
I hate missing things

Yaakov would be proud.

2:54 PM
Could ping him 😁

:D I'm no poet but making haiku is actually a fun little challenge.

@Rubiksmoose You're a poet and you didn't even know it

lol

@Magisch forgot... to stand up? lol
At least you remembered to eat/drink? ;)
@jcolebrand why not Google? ;)
Does Bing also Bling?
@M.A.R. when working I can also get to 6 hours, I think. But usually I get up way before that to make coffee, eat, etc.

6:15 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask No way you have the same concentration while working as reading some enjoyable novel

7:09 PM
@M.A.R. really depends and case by case. Hunting down a really nasty bug in production can keep me attached to the screen for hours without I even notice the time... Same with book, but it must be a really good book.

7:40 PM

7:51 PM
@Feeds How come you can read my thoughts?

Black Hat is holding the root symbol all wrong. You either point the tip downwards to pierce head armor, or hold it by the bent part as a lance you can lean on.

@Feeds psi is mine
Looks like trident of poiseden

Or a bent pitchfork

Yes

Nabla could be an interesting close quarters tool.

7:58 PM
Pah, I'll take the alef you naughters :-P

No permissions required, lmao
Alright night pals!

8:30 PM
@Arjun I think you mean Gamma

Bloody weather

22 degrees inside here :)
Good luck getting some sleep :)

27 downstairs, quite some more up.

O.o
What kind of pre-war building are you living in?!

'28

8:40 PM
Oof

Yup.

If you want to come sleep on the couch, I could ask my parents XD
They'd probably be sympathetic too ;)

I got roof isolation last month. It works, the heat can't get out.

Haha

@rene You shouldn't let it in!

8:42 PM
I'm working on that part

Sunscreens and curtains are one of the first things to be installed in front of every window of my new apartment
@rene a lot of people make the mistake of making sure no heat gets out before making sure no heat gets in ;)

I know, I know :/

Have you tried assisting the heat with getting out, making use of a couple of windows and a ventilator?

If it's not colder outside than inside, don't even think of trying that.

It is here...
Outside it's probably 26 by now.

8:46 PM
It's still close to 26 outside here, dad wanted to open the windows

Upstairs it's at least 30

My bedroom was 23

lol

Silly men.
@Mast yeah, that'd work then XD

Thinking about spraying the house with water tomorrow, see if that helps.

8:51 PM
I've heard that technically, it should? We've sprayed the roof of the shed a few times to keep our bicycles from melting
Also working: cool wet towels in front of open windows right now, and a fan to blow the colder air in.
A fan + frozen bottle of water are a wonderful thing too

> to keep our bicycles from melting
:O

Keep all windows and curtains closed..
@Rubiksmoose metaphorically

I was about to say. Try not living in a volcano?

Doesn't work quite so well when you have a PC kicking out heat... closing the curtains just keeps it all in :P

I hear if you take the PC outside and then spray it with water, it will stop putting out heat!

8:54 PM
I have the curtains and window open and a fan pointed out
then block the rest of the window off with a wet towel

@Rubiksmoose poor shed gets the full afternoon sun blast, it easily gets to be 50 degrees in there on exceptionally hot days if we don't take measures

wow. That is super toasty.

@ArtOfCode yeah well... That's karma ;)

@Tinkeringbell Evaporation requires energy, so it's simple thermodynamics really.

that would be 120 in freedom units apparently.

8:56 PM
@ArtOfCode a PC should not be that bad unless you're gaming. But it's certainly not an insignificant amount of heat in most cases

@Rubiksmoose it only happens when it's 33-35 outside. Which really is exceptional here, even though we've hit that for a few days the past few years

2018 was fun.

Oh, and we often forget to let the heat out of the shed at night by opening the door

@MadScientist it's running at 60C right now with very little workload, but yeah... anything more than that and the CPU heats up to ~80 and the GPU kicks in too, and... suddenly most of the 500W from the power supply ends up as heat :)

Though I probably should replace one of my monitors that still has a CCFL backlight, that one is very noticeably hotter than a modern monitor

8:57 PM
@Mast tbh 2019 wasn't much worse

@ArtOfCode You're almost certainly not drawing anywhere close to 500W

@Tinkeringbell worse or better?

@Mast yes

...

@MadScientist Not at the moment, no, though if I start actually working it then it runs up to 350-400W

8:59 PM
I can see you laughing right through my screen.

I have a pretty high-end desktop, and it's like 70-80W in idle. I'm not sure about the current upgraded version, but I tested this before I upgraded and even with Furmark I could not get higher than ~350W
@ArtOfCode Are you calculating anything on the GPU? As you really shouldn't be able to hit that with CPU alone

@MadScientist yeah, that's with everything running, not CPU alone

GPU will take a 150 at peak by itself, depending on how heavy it is.
My 1660 Ti peaks at 130-ish.

At some point I should measure the power usage of my TV, it's probably quite high as well

If you know the type or series, the internet may have an estimate.

9:02 PM
@Mast it depends heavily on the brightness as it's an OLED

Right.

@Mast TDP is 190W

@ArtOfCode Of your GPU?

yup

Your CPU won't even hit half that, so you'd stay under 350 unless you got a boatload of HDD and peripherals or something.

9:06 PM
CPU is 91W, MB is 35, plus a handful of disks & peripherals... yeah, 350W is about right

TDP doesn't really say anything about power usage today
If it's something like a 9900K, you might use 100W above TDP under load

7700K

Running stock? Probably won't go above 100 then.
Right?
Would be some load, a CPU taking 180-ish.

The 7700K is a 4 core, so it really shouldn't use as much as the 8 cores at extreme frequencies

shrug
A 3700X has 8 cores but is a lot more efficient.
The only way to know for sure is measure it. As it always has been.

9:15 PM
@Mast the 9900K hits ~170W under load. The newer high-end Intels are really brute-forcing performance at the price of very high power consumption

Shiiii....
With a load like that, they better come with watercooling by default.
I have a 550W PSU, Platinum efficiency, and I'm sure it won't reach 80%.
A 170W CPU means your CPU burns off about as much as a GPU. That's, a bit much.
Must be fun in summer.

9:33 PM
Most important announcement of bestheda con

@JourneymanGeek Watchdog meets anime?

YOU CAN PET THE DOG

@JourneymanGeek So, Watchdog meets anime meets Nintendogs?

wierdly
maybe?

@Mast hahahah!
that is perfect in so many ways
