Do all sites allow people to post as a guest? Yesterday I thought I'd found one that didn't give that option.
But I can't find it anymore.

3:17 AM
not all sites
It used to be a core part of the SE model but it can be turned off if a site has spammer or troll issues

@Aibobot Do you know any site that doesn't allow it?

3:43 AM
Eh, I think most don't allow it now?

Rob
@M.A.R. [ว‚ฬƒห€àmฬ€ส–แนนแนน]

@user1271772 SO certainly doesn't allow guest post, Android.SE still allows

@user1271772 Unfortunately, I don't keep track of much past my main sites

@MetaAndrewT. SO does allow it

Umm...
Oh, did you mean guest answer?

I just meant post (Q/A), I guess you have discovered that it's not possible to post a Q, and I've discovered that it is indeed possible to post an A.

Yeah, most sites disable guest posting a question, but I think all sites can post answer as a guest

@MetaAndrewT. Preferably no one would be allowed to post as a guest! Hahaha, am I being too cruel?

4:13 AM
Both have advantages and disadvantages, though seeing too many NAA made me lean into the disadvantage ;)

Rob
There's still feedback, on every site AFAIK

4:27 AM
What does NAA stand for?
I guess the advantage is that people can answer, that otherwise would not want to answer, because they don't agree with the privacy agreement or something. The disadvantage is that they're not registered ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

4:38 AM
Ah, NAA = Not An Answer
Unregistered users are somewhat more limited though, like they can't delete their own posts

@Ann would you request to abort the bounty on your question? I think you should, since the best answer there (the official answer by a CM) is posted by someone with 165k rep, who really doesn't need it, while you do need those points to get basic privileges back. I can't promise it will work, but if I were you, I'd flag my own question asking to refund the bounty. (Note: the CM did not answer due to the bounty.)
Worst case, the request will be denied.
@MetaAndrewT. yeah they can only edit, maybe comment as well, but not delete.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask That's bad advice, given that there were 4 answers posted after the bounty started. You put those up for advertising, you're not getting a refund when it clearly works.

@Rob peel can also mean skin (of the fruit/vegetable) so yes, it's better. But still, my interest in this is on a standard level.

@rene next bounty up is Robert L for 200 meta.stackexchange.com/q/349555/294691

@Tinkeringbell it's a special case. 1) User now has very low rep, and 2) The situation itself is unfair towards the user, in a way, assuming they speak the truth. And again, that's just something I'd have done in such situation, not a general advise.
If you say the request will be denied it's fine and fair, @Tink.

6:48 AM
@Mithical who/what decides the next winner and the rep amount?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask amount was decided basically by score + personal favorites; ran the order by everyone who offered rep and got their approval

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I find it to be bad advice. If you look at their bounty history and their bio, you'll see a long history of bounties offered with low rep. I believe they full well know what they're doing with bounties.

@Mithical nice. :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask My words of advise to you and everyone in general: The MSE crowd isn't mentioned in meta.stackexchange.com/q/28867/369802 . I've seen more than 1 suspended user come in here/on main to complain about being suspended and people jumping on it to get the details... That's entirely unnecessary. Link them to that post, send them to contact-us and be done with it.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog didn't say otherwise. (About knowing what they're doing)

@Mithical done

Of course suspensions 'are going to look unfair if what the user says is true' but you won't get a fair account because you're only getting one side.

(thumbs up)

6:51 AM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog I'll get those later.

@Tinkeringbell well, maybe it's just a case of "Protect the victim" on my side but yeah, I can't know what's really going on and don't try to know - just give some advise, and share what I'd be doing in the same situation. To be honest, if I'll be suspended for a week (without doing anything wrong) I won't be so calm. :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It doesn't matter if people are calm or not. By discussing their suspension details with them, without being able to do anything for them, you're just goading them along, and drawing out the process of telling them what to do and that there's nothing you can do ;)

suddenly was reminded by a suspended user that tried to talk on here by quitting-rejoining quickly...

Ah, yeah... that one was creative, at least ;)

Q: An acquaintance figured out a way to get me banned from Stack Exchange Sites

Element115I use English Language Learners forums a lot. In fact, I was in the top 0.48% of reputation earners, but just a couple days ago, I was sitting in an English Lecture, when I noticed that a little of my reputation (about 40 pts) was gone. Almost immediately afterwards, I received a message from the...

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Thanks :) I appreciate that. Good group overall though, so I think SO will be in good hands

@Tinkeringbell I'm not discussing suspension details... am I?
@TravisJ what, it's over and you didn't win?! checking

lol, no still 2 days left

Didn't end yet... good. :)

7:10 AM
I just think that the overall group is good is all

"SO will be in good hands" sounded like you lost with dignity. :D
Well, to be honest... I'm not familiar with the group. But do know you're a good person and will be awesome moderator. @Trav

Heh, used to stiff competition I guess. I run every so often, just to make sure there is an adult in the room :P
Thanks :)

@TravisJ you ran in the past? Or other sites?

Yeah, at SO's meta, everyone is kind of familiar with each other to some degree. At least, those of us who often post there
In the past, this will be the 4th time I think.

hmm... didn't notice in the past. :(
I did vote on SO elections many times, just didn't always check everyone.

7:14 AM
Its okay, past times have produced awesome mods. I was running once, and Martijn decided to nominate, so naturally I stood no chance lol

I'm fairly sure this is at least the second time I've voted for Travis. ;)

hah :) thanks, might not be the last! lol
It's mostly just a competition to see who gets to donate more time to the community, so it is definitely a good cause.

Also I always connect you with Jay for some reason, checked his SO profile now, looks like he made some rep from Documentation? lol
Did you get the beer with him, @Trav?

I wish! Jay had invited me to tour the NYC office a while back, but I was so busy at the time, travelling wasn't really an option. Should have took the opportunity while I could. I guess I kind of thought that group would always be here.

Yeah....
Wait but didn't he also invite you for a beer after leaving SE?

7:19 AM
Ah, yes that too

Occasionally I wonder if things would have happened the way they did if Jaydles had still been around.

I don't mind being inundated with beer, so I will gladly entertain a beer with anyone I get the chance to... its just that time is such a pain the butt, maybe I am not doing it right. I am trying to retire by 40, so that is kinda getting a little grueling.

This reminds me, I'm in the same boat! @Yaakov invited me for a meeting, and it still didn't happen! But it still can... in theory? @Mith you're still into it?

Don't really have a way to get down to that part of the country at the moment
not really taking public transport ATM

7:22 AM
@Mithical Corona? :(

The J squad, those were a good group. Jeff, Joel, Jay, Josh, Jon... kind of hard to believe they are no longer here

aye

(for both of the messages above that)

Damn Corona ruining all dem plans....

7:22 AM
yeah that's the truth
I have been remoting from home, and feel like I am on house arrest

Totally
Add kids to that, and you're in house arrest plus torture. :P

And my draft date is in October so I'm rather unlikely to be able to make it before then, and who knows what things will be like after I'm in the military, so... it may not happen. :/

hah

@TravisJ you're a J too! :D

(Was laughing at previous comment, sorry Mith)
I do resemble a J

7:25 AM
@Mithical think I said in the past that I have a feeling Jay left because of the internal chaos (that was bubbling deep underground back then).... so it means he couldn't change it from the inside. :(

Not sure which forces Jay was fighting, but he is a good guy, and I wish him the best.

7:44 AM
@TravisJ Same.

8:11 AM
The dark side of course
Plot twist: Suddenly, Palpatine appears in the SO election

@ShadowWizardWearingMask How modest, he can also shoot lightening and patch up shitty plots, and fool absolutely everyone in the galaxy

meh
Weak powers compared to SO mod.

So... what is that? ;)

Fun fact: I listen to death bed just to hear the bark in it.
I considered asking on Music.SE what dog is it, but.... will likely be mocked and closed. :P
Might also be computer generated bark, which will be super disappointing.

Rob
8:32 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Couldn't listen to it that long, when I was distracted by the much better recommended video:

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yeah one of those "it's just scratching a balloon on a piece of wood makes a funny bark sound" things

@Rob old, but good. :)
The volume of "Death Bed" is super strong by default, but somehow it's fine.
@M.A.R. that would still be fine, talking about things like this.

Rob
Surprisingly so, like The Rock singing Wonderful World.

Rob
8:55 AM
The Rock, singing Wonderful World: youtu.be/Mw_tC8vfdUE or โŸจวโŸฉ youtube.com/watch?v=BbnKhgopOFU
But don't think that I listen to that, I'm more Scorpions, Def Leppard; really as far as I'll admit to going is Ratt: youtu.be/0u8teXR8VE4

@ShadowWizardWearingMask this song.... is popularly lo-fi

9:13 AM
@MetaAndrewT. lo-fi?
I saw it first on VH1 and got hooked for like two days, then only the bark kept me interested. ;)
Also love the coffee being poured sound effect. :D

I don't... understand? lol
Anima?

It's a music genre

never heard of it
Is this a live stream? ^^^^
I'm not into YouTube so never got into one.
feeling old

enjoying the quality of 80's~ just like 16-bit and 8-bit graphic~

9:17 AM
hmm
Anyway, knew that song was special, just not how. :D

Yeah, hype is a mysterious thing :/

We had a singer here in Israel who sang K-pop in the finals of a TV contest.
She lost.
(it was the contest deciding who will represent Israel in the Eurovision)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask O.o you'd think K-pop was better than that toy song that won..

@Tinkeringbell no no, it was this year.
But Toy would have likely beat it as well.
The K-pop song got like 40% votes.
Most songs in that level had 70% to 90%.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Ah. Well this year didn't work out so we get to host it next year as well! :D
we got two years of hype for the price of 1.

9:29 AM
Sorry for all the ads, didn't find it on YouTube.
hmm it reached 60.... remembered less, but still, far from being enough to win and go to the next level.
@Tinkeringbell lol, true. ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask If I don't forget, I'll take a look later when I'm not on a work laptop:)

@Tinkeringbell :)
Her best song is with the other young singer, cover for Senorita. It's just awesome.
It reached 97% or so, the record so far.

1 hour later…
Rob
It brings my Flair to 50 gold, a nice even number.

77 is better.

Rob
Or, a Shog amount.

Wait, it's still 49. @Rob
Does it show 50 for you?

Rob
11:06 AM
You must wait for 24-48, is the claim but sometimes it's 3 days, rarely several hours or so.

@Rob Jeff has more than Shog. (gold badges, didn't check other parameters)

Are Vengaboys still popular in the Netherlands?

hmm... how many do I have?
72
Poor Community...

I remember giving Cesar M a bounty just so he could qualify for a network flair. It wasn't enough to fully cover it (95 to 195), but I hedged my bets that someone else would cast a vote to push him to 200

Rob
You didn't show the default user:

11:12 AM
The list of CMs post was looking awkward without it.

@Rob that's too trivial. Like asking "Who is the most rich person in the world?"
The competition is on the lower places.
@SonictheMaskedWerehog well, I asked to make exception for staff and show their flair even with less with 200 rep, it.... didn't go well.

Staff rights aren't stored on the network profile, only on site profiles, so it would be technically difficult.

-13
Q: Can the combined flair restriction of 200+ rep on at least one site be lifted for a Stack Exchange employee?

Shadow Wizard Wearing MaskI just went over the list of Community Managers and this caught my attention: Different look and feel, too gray... poor Ana deserves more in my opinion. I went and dug up her combined flair just to see the reason it wasn't used: You do not have any linked accounts with 200+ rep True,...

@SonictheMaskedWerehog too bad...

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Not really, some with almost that rep have few badges:

Rob
11:17 AM
Huge badge difference, small rep difference
Arguably, David is a fair bit behind me for badges; especially if viewed as badges vs. rep.

@Rob sure, but gold badges? Far far behind.
@DavidPostill show off! :P

Rob
Bronze?

@Rob same, though gap is somewhat smaller.

Argh, mine exhibits Name Overflowโ„ข:

11:20 AM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog It should take the name from network profile. No?

Highest rep site.

oh
Well, it's not really good. We should be able to control it.
Feature request!
Just change the SELECT a bit.... how hard can it get? ;)
(saying someone who spent over a week over a single SQL statement once... or twice... or more..... ;))

Customer wanted a query feature. I gave them a textbox and a SQL Tutorial

@rene no hint so far, but better keep an eye, yes.
(or a nose.)

ear?
petal?

11:23 AM
@rene no, spammers spam quietly.

Rob
He has almost 3 1/2 times my Flair - all being equal he would have 175 G, 703 S, and 2184 bronze in order for his progress to equal mine.

@rene no, the good smell will hide the spam smell.
@Rob who?

Rob
David

You're out of context now. lol

@SonictheMaskedWerehog I wonder what prompted that question?

11:25 AM
@Rob oh you mean @David? Well, it's not the same, the badge types aren't equal.

Rob
How are they different?

@Tinkeringbell aren't we going to Ibiza then?
2

@Tinkeringbell Reading the back transcript and saw discussion about music and bands

@Tinkeringbell Maybe my mention of Eurovision? ;)

Ah, that has brought us many good things.

@Rob bronze easier to get

I heard it's overrated, and that there are places whose lightshow bars put theirs to shame.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask So why didn't he get them ...

11:35 AM
@rene Is Ibiza yellow, or orange?
@SonictheMaskedWerehog Ah. I don't remember Vengaboys having a relation to the eurovision song contest so that's where I got stuck.

@Tinkeringbell Hasn't it always been a safety and health risk? Yellow-ish orange, I would say.

You're right, of course ;)

Rob
11:51 AM
@Tinkeringbell I would have guessed purple: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privilege_Ibiza

@Rob Nope ;) Yellow and orange are colors used for travel advice here. Also included are green and red. Due to covid, basically nothing is green, almost all is yellow (not without risk), orange (only travel if you really need to) or red (no travel at all).

Rob
That nightclub holds 10,000+ people, so it would be out.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask so work any type of customer facing service and you will constantly hear how "the customer did nothing wrong and that you are the most unfair bastard to ever live. It just happened to me this week with an old client who just changed some configurations on the server we setup for them (a year+ ago) and want us to redo the work for free cause it's our fault

@SmokeDetector *sips*

@Tinkeringbell Israel is red
@LinkBerest totally agree about a customer. My boss flipped the table at such client. (Not for real, just bailed out of the project, now it's probably going to court.)

Traditionally, linters make sure your code is clean and easy for teammates to read. They check for errors, bugs, style, and more. While they are more prevalent in dynamic/interpreted languages, they are not limited to them. Getting code as tidy as possible is the goal, but linters can also take some time getting used to, be a distraction, and might even be impossible to introduce to old, large code bases. We look at why they might still be worth your time.

@Rob Not That Red
The Other Red

Rob

The red that is bad.
@Rob yours?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Heh, I understand that response. Luckily mine was easy this time: We dissolved the consulting company, so cannot save your butt this time

Naw, I play no better than Mr. Methane

@ShadowWizardWearingMask That sounds sensible ;)

12:46 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather play fair.
Why doesn't this say -2?

@Tinkeringbell yeah... o_o
@AnnZen what? Where?

Why doesn't what say -2? :O
Phantom negative twos?!

@AnnZen cheers! :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask We can save the time and... uh... we don't refund bounties except under extremely exceptional circumstances.

Also, what happened to the upload button here?

12:54 PM
Should still be there. It is for me :)
Maybe refresh the page? Maybe something fubar'd.

Q: Chat requirement to post images should be made explicit

Grace NoteThere is (apparently) a 100 reputation requirement to upload and post images through chat. There isn't any easily located documentation on this, however. 100 global reputation is listed as the privilege for creating chat rooms, while the chat FAQ and help both do not mention any restrictions on ...

See? Bounty is taking away basic privileges...
@JourneymanGeek fair enough, @Tink already washed me over this. :D
Now I'm clean. ;)

Are you? ;)

Huh?

1:08 PM
I googled each one.

Ah, is this your Stack Overflow profile?

@Spevacus yes

Gotcha.

Rob
The MSE profile controls the privileges here, the SO profile on their linked chat rooms.

1:47 PM
@Rob true.

@Rob I don't understand what you mean by "the SO profile on their linked chat rooms"

@AnnZen on chat.meta.stackexchange.com, your Meta Stack Exchange profile's rep is what dictates what privileges in chat you have. In chat.stackoverflow.com, your SO profile's rep is what controls the privileges there.

๐Ÿšฝ

And there's also a 3rd chat network, chat.stackexchange.com.
