Morning! Quick question... has anyone ever noticed a small pink-ish line in the top center of the comment box when adding a comment? Here's what I saw: i.sstatic.net/kSia2.png
But now I can't reproduce it...
@M.A.R. blame the sun
:)
@Rob maybe!
@ShadowWizardWearingMask just a glitch at your end ...
Rob
Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I haven't seen that on comments, do you think it's related to the broken expander on the Q&A editor box?:
06:41
Anyway, turns out the fix for old time bug in code which I didn't write myself was to remove one line... which cleared some array.
Keep your arrays clean is in general good advice
@Rob nah, can't see any relation. Comments textbox has no expander...
Rob
Rob
You're supposed to be able to grab that and resize the box, but it's been broken for me as long as it has existed.
@rene keeping everything clean is even better advice. :P
@Rob well, that's browser thing...
What browser? @Rob
Rob
Rob
Probably, does it work for you? -- FF
06:43
@Rob works for me in Chrome
@ShadowWizardWearingMask The sun can do that? Did your hair get tanned or something?
Rob
Rob
Hmmm, I'll have to try sometime, thanks rene.
@Rob ohh.... ditch FF, move to Chrome. ;)
@M.A.R. on second thought.... might be the light. lol
Yeah, every one of them breaches your privacy, so do it with style
I'll take another maskie in different light and we'll see.

He has chrome dome, with hair 👴
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'm not still convinced light can do any of that
So is your hair dark or blond?
Or is it a wig? :p

Q: Kiss me for 100 dollars?

yeziaho2I am baffled by the usage of "for" in the following sentence: A girl asks a guy "Would you kiss me for 100 dollars?" Does she mean: A: You kiss me and you get 100 dollars or B: You give me 100 dollars and you can kiss me?

> The girl actually knows the answer, and depending on what that answer is, you could've been up a hundred bucks by now. None of us here know the answer, and none of us in here will pay you even just a nickel. Do people now refuse to talk to girls even if there's potentially a $100 in it for them? Humanity.
@M.A.R. from what I remember it's dark, but... who knows... :D
06:51
Comment is gold too :P
@Rob I . . . have no idea what to make of that
Rob
Rob
^^^^ Amusingly that means both, so you break even; besides a hun gets more than that.
Probably the price is higher due to C19
No clue. I've heard rumors that prices might rise though, I've seen it happen for hairdressers.
Same diff
Rob
Rob
So, Brazilian Wax price quadruples ...
06:59
Only the kind Bolsonaro applies to his hair
Perhaps. Hairdressers haven't quadrupled their prices over here... but there's definitely been an increase because they've lost income for a few months and can't make that up right now. So, just to break even, they had to increase prices.
Rob
Rob
The Internet says 50€ for 15 minutes in Amsterdam, this month - seems low.
I have no clue what prices were before XD
And did they reopen the red ilght district already?! I thought that was supposed to happen a lot later :/
Rob
Rob
Many decades ago, when I was a teenager, it was that much; in the expensive part of town.
@Rob Yeah, but that would've been guldens then. Which means prices have doubled since then... a single euro is 2.20 gulden ;)
07:09
@Tinkeringbell TIL
You're welcome :)

@Rob think you looked in wrong category

There was a time, a couple of decades ago, when there was so much competition in Seattle that it costs U$20; but many were griping that was insultingly too low - so they got no business.
@Rob dunno how it's priced there, but here the price is fixed... no matter what happens, you pay the same. :P
Rob
Rob
^^^ Seeds are fairly priced.
Yeah well... Only because they're a pain to grow your own.

Was just checking Seattle, found that the Yellow Pages are online (and so there are stars, and written reviews) - so funny the mostly poor review this bar got: https://www.yelp.ca/biz/pandoras-adult-cabaret-seattle?hrid=yEMZyv6TOWUFr7RAb3tdOg&osq=brothels
They're probably really funny but I'm still using work laptop?

meta.stackexchange.com/questions/349773/… :( People keep downvoting it... How am I supposed to earn my lifeboat badge this way?!
@Tinkeringbell Hmm, for the sake of it.
(fingers crossed it was at -3 when I posted my answer... I can't remember...)
@πάνταῥεῖ Then I'll be sneezy :)
I rarely retract downvotes, and even rarer I turn them to upvotes, so be happy with your badge.
08:59
Hahaha I will! :D
I'll do a little victory dance if I get one :)
Or reward myself some chocolate.
09:21
@Tinkeringbell One step closer
Ooh, if this works I should get the lifejacket soon already :D
I read that question, at least after the alleged edits, as someone genuinely confused about why it shows somewhere and not elsewhere, rather than requesting it for other sites
TBF with such a question that request is mildly implied
Yeah, I know. Many people saw it that way, apparently... Edits clarified that point, hopefully :P
There's a question on Skeptics ATM that's facing the same situation, and it's about BLM
People squint further reading a post about a topic they're passionate about
So.. how long does it usually take for a badge to arrive? I'm starting to fear I answered that question just a little too soon, without it getting enough downvotes XD
09:34
for those? could be a day
Okay. Then I hope for another upvote there before the day is over so I don't have to wait yet another day! XD
MY CODE IS FINALLY MERGED! It's almost like I'm having a good day today.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, I can have one now, the lifejacket badge is there... now to hope for the lifeboat one!
Someone downvoted again :( It's not looking good!
@Tinkeringbell I see 0 downvotes... what do I miss?
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's been going up and down for a while ;)
10:09
@Tinkeringbell so maybe just trolling... anyway should not affect badges...
This morning it was scoring -1, I edited my answer in response to a comment, and it went to -2 ... After I asked chat to help me get my lifeboat badge, it went up to 2... but now it's at 1 again. I need it to score 3 to get the lifeboat badge :P
I did get the lifejacket, yes.

Q: Achievements can be used against us by trolls

Shadow Wizard Wearing MaskSee this: It's real. (Thanks Manishearth for helping me on this!) Any user with upvote privilege can simply click the upvote button repeatedly to cause this to any other user, at any time. How can we block this? I couldn't come with a concrete suggestion so your ideas are welcome.

@Tinkeringbell oh wait, you mean the question??
@ShadowWizardWearingMask YES! Sorry.
:D
Thought you meant your answer.
Nah, sorry. I did link to the question, didn't I?
I did :P
10:11
Well, looks like people still think OP means they want to have the feature.
obviously you should have included a poem
I can't even write those in Dutch.
Don't expect me to write on in English. I'd use words that rhyme, but only in my head XD
Which reminds me - this answer is a straight copy-paste of another entry and looking at the user's profile I'd guess it's to disguise upcoming spam.
Gone :P
If the profile really starts spamming, let me know.
(thumbs up)
10:17
@Mithical Activity is kinda low... I think I might throw up 50 points there just for visibility, do you mind? I'd probably award them to the highest scoring answer in the end.
I was considering opening it up so that answers to that question do count by themselves, simply because of the low activity.
That's an option too, but that's for you to decide ;) Let me know if you do though, because there's one about spam that should be undeleted then ;)
at least one
Ah yeah, I see more. We could probably undelete 3/4 if you do that.
My reasoning being with so much rep up for grabs it's a shame to limit participation so much
10:19
True!
@rene @ArtOfCode @JourneymanGeek what do you think, being the other people to offer bounties?
works for me
works for me

Going to rewrite my LH question, didn't give enough details, as it turned out.
So, two more pictures, some background, and rephrasing perhaps.

Schadenfreude.
@Mithical I'll leave it to you
Just tell me where to award the bounties 😁

Q: Does China have the death penalty for spammers?

Andrew GrimmDoes China have the death penalty for spammers? Example claim: Welcome to the United States of Canada. Chinese law, for example, permits executions for sending spam, and harvesting of the guilty party's organs. (Note: I'm asking about the death penalty. Whether organs get harvested is no...

@Smokey what do you think?
@M.A.R. Abolish the death penalty
11:30
@SmokeDetector we wouldn't want to put you out of your job of course.
And done.
@Mithical Here's a browser cookie
@ShadowWizardWearingMask chewing noises
@Mithical Bounty for attention added, and also added comments to the three answers that could now be undeleted :)
11:38
Thanks!
You're welcome!
@Mith is there a link to the rules each poem must follow? I remember you posted a comment with link to rules when the first answer didn't follow the rules. (Hence was disqualified, I assume?)
i posted a link to the rules for a limerick i believe
And Haiku?
@Tink it's +3
You should appear here soon...

But not now. I have a meeting, I should keep a straight face XD

hmm... this I can't really know....
Yeah, me neither. It definitely reached negative score very quickly, I think it was at least -4 but not sure :(
@ShadowWizardWearingMask No like this :-]
12:40
@Spevacus now I better get an upvote...
@Tinkeringbell >:P
grumpily upvotes
@Spevacus Well, next time you could turn the comment into an answer, and flag the comment :P
13:12
@Tinkeringbell I try to post a comment and give a bit of leeway for whoever posted that original comment to post their own answer. You got there first after all ;D. Afterword a bit I typically do snipe the comment as an answer, though, especially if I was gonna answer the same way anyway.
Also, thanks for clearing our comments.
Heh yeah... thought I'd write up a quick comment instead of an answer because it's almost too simple for an answer (and, if the Q gets downvoted into oblivion, not having an upvoted answers allows for self-deletion)... but you're right. Answers are answers ;)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yeah the answer was pretty... simple.
Still in the lifeboat waiting room for you btw
Yeah I'm slowly starting to fear I may actually have missed that boat!
It might still show up though, the lifejacket took two hours or something like that too.
what's the post?
Imagine drowning and having to wait two hours for your lifejacket...
Even if the lifeboat comes after that, you're likely dead from hypothermia...
@JourneymanGeek The one I haven't been able to shut up about all day ;)

reversals are old fashioned :P
I have 28 reversals on MSO. Only one lifeboat.
Hmm :| There's a vote to close this as "only belongs on one specific site," when... the OP wouldn't be able to post there anyway because they're suspended.
There's a dupe somewhere but my searching skills are abysmal at the moment, I guess.

For many people discussion of content management systems raises unpleasant specters of the early 2000s. But while CMS platforms may not feel like the shiniest new tech on the block, they still have a lot to offer, and they’ve evolved in ways that might surprise you. Let’s talk about Drupal, a 20 year old open source project that still manages to be on the leading edge of the CMS world.
no, it's not
3
@Tinkeringbell I actually had upvoted that before you answered (or I commented) just because I had the thought when they first started this - why SO? (there are smaller sites where this is also a problem if you really want a decent test - this seems like a cannonball into the ocean after chumming the water)
I knew the answer of course (SO is the only site that matters to SE) but it still seemed a weird choice to me
@LinkBerest It's probably also a matter of scale. Sure, smaller sites get the occasional thank-you-for-this-answer comment too, but I guess SO is the one where you'd get enough data to also have it statistically mean something :|
that blog post doesn't seem to mention the author's affiliation with drupal
14:24
tbf my "no it's not" doesn't come from me using drupal in the past, it's i hate biased articles like this being presented by SO.
I hear there might be something more interesting coming later this week...
</spoilers>
anbd comments are broken?
@ArtOfCode Should I stop moderating already?
Quite the opposite. Find out a way to remove blog posts as spam and do so :D
From this room, it's rather easy. Any of you could do it :P

At the source, I mean
Oh. That's going to be harder, yeah.

@user400654 There is two names on that Blog page, the author's profile does mention his association but (way at the bottom) Ryan Donovan makes no mention; though it's hidden in his LinkedIn profile: google.com/… and
Right, the author's page does, but it doesn't in the article. it's hidden, that's my issue with it. Before, that would be noted right at the beginning
or at the end
Sounds like a MSE/MSO question to me...

someone else can

It is free software, but as an associate one cannot help but wonder if there's a financial interest ...
user400654 is right. Generic contributors aren't allowed to promote with undisclosed affiliation, and the best way to support that rule is to lead by example.

It differs from my mention of GNU or GCC, for which I receive no renumeration; though you are forced to use it (or benefit from it) if you own a cellphone, and some (but not all) computer programs:
GNU ( (listen)) is an operating system and an extensive collection of computer software. GNU is composed wholly of free software, most of which is licensed under the GNU Project's own General Public License (GPL). GNU is a recursive acronym for "GNU's Not Unix!", chosen because GNU's design is Unix-like, but differs from Unix by being free software and containing no Unix code.The GNU project includes an operating system kernel, GNU Hurd, which was the original focus of the Free Software Foundation (FSF). However, given the Hurd kernel's status as not yet production-ready, non-GNU kernels, most...
@Tinkeringbell yeah, I thought about that but it doesn't ring true (the smaller sites allow for a proof of concept). The problem I see is they saw Teams as the proof of concept (I've sent emails through Teams requesting ways to remove reactions and the result is we are leaving Stack because you cannot disable it and the regulations we operate under do not allow these)
Well, at this point I have reached the end of conjecture... I think they picked SO because it would give more/better data over smaller sites. But it's really just that, conjecture.

I do know about Teams and that when it was rolled out there, there was some post stating they might come to the network too.. but I don't know if Teams really was the proof of concept.
14:57
yeah, Mithical asked about it but it received no response. Also probably why I hate this feature as I've been fighting it for a month and lost and now am moving all our data to another system - yeah, extra work :\
keeps you busy, keeps you employed.
oh, I have other work to do - it just pushes back projects at this point
I am however wondering what kind of legal space disallows what teams does.
government ones (note I'm not saying disallowing these make sense)
afternoonZ
15:10
o/
just to know - I have just had an account merge...
the two redacted logins are MY own logins.... but what about the two "Stack Exchange" ones?
I am quite scared by the fact I get the option for "change password" on those too....
@BlueSoul what do you use to log in?
google?
there is a SE native login method using your email and a password
nope, I use the native login. What I meant is that before from my experience it listed a single line with the email address I used to create the native login.
now I get 4 lines, two for the native logins and two with the words "Stack Exchange", almost if I had 4 logins
Oh, ok - they are dupes, so now both logins are listed two times. Maybe it was intended to work this way, I don't know.
15:16
@djsmiley2kStaysInside note, I also know other people in regular business (mostly aviation) who hate reactions because they moved to Stackoverflow Teams over Slack because it didn't have emojis which they feel hurt productivity (and at least one added a "employee will not use reactions" rule)
I have confirmed that both first two link take me to the change password screen for the first native account, and the last two to the other one. So they are just listed two times for some reason. Weird.
almost thought this was spam for Hammers.com: meta.stackexchange.com/q/349861/158100

@LinkBerest businesses like that, need to take a look at the people making these rules, and ponder if they're really worth their wage.
@rene umm..... it's not about SE... why dupe??
Not different from the usual off topic stuff we get every day.
Dang.. need to go wash dishes at work. cya!
15:32
@djsmiley2kStaysInside the employees asked for it (I know the DBA and his team hates emoji filled forums/chats/etc and it seems the same with most of the other devs I've talked to) - some people just don't like them (or at least don't like the non-text ones)
I was one of those when I worked at one of the companies (we were using Slack at the time and made a "No emoji chat" channel back then which the majority of the devs and engineers preferred to use)
....
that's a really weird thing to get annoyed at
now, if someone tried to communicate only in emoji's, I'd stab them in the eye
but.... just... what
get on with your work.
Thje gifs in MS Teams are annoying, for the first 10 seconds of a big chat.... but I work with people who have the ability not to be annoying ****s and keep posting things.
So I really don't 'get it'
you don't have to: its their shop. They don't like it so they don't use it and disallow it. My shop doesn't have a choice because of the regulation we work under (which just straight disallow it according to our contact). The point is if these people want to turn it off they should have an admin option to do so (MS Teams had one and is adding it back) and right now they don't and it seems like there's no movement to add that
note, in the shop I worked with: OPS and Customer Service also had access to the Slack channel and so over-used the gifs & emojis it really was just social media and very annoying when you were actually trying to get work done so it was more that just "using any emojis annoys me"
15:57
I'm with you: emojis are really distracting and annoying. Some can be useful (the thumbsup sign is a quick and easy way to signal agreement) but everything else seems superfluous to me. I don't see any benefit in having :) magically turn into a demented yellow grin.
16:09
I have a post in front of me that had 1 delete vote, then was deleted by it's author.
Now it gathered 2 undelete votes from others, including the person that cast the first delete vote, and was undelete by the author again.

It's still showing it has 1 delete vote, is that supposed to happen?
@terdon 🗿
(don't ask me what it is)
meta.stackexchange.com/a/349601/369802 < Does anyone else see the delete vote here?
@ArtOfCode Happily, my OS doesn't inflict those on me :)
still can't tell what it is :P
It's one of those easter island statues, over here.
16:11
Wind funnel?
@Tinkeringbell no, because it's not closed
@ArtOfCode On the answer, not the Q?
Thought you didn't need the question to be closed to see delete votes on answers...
Ah, yes
Ah, I think @Tinkeringbell nailed it, yes. I can see this if I zoom in:
Link didn't bring the answer to the top, for some reason
Dunno why there's a delete vote on it, but there is
16:12
@djsmiley2kStaysInside IIRC, LinkBerest mentioned that they are government agency teams. You can't argue with government regulations. Well, you can try, but you're unlikely to succeed. ;)
huh, weird that is grey and looking sideways for me (still an Easter-Island Head just much different rendering)
Maybe one of these?
@terdon It looks like this one over here:
@ArtOfCode Because before the rules were changed, it should indeed be deleted.
16:15
oh, the vote is old? That'd make sense
Only thing I can imagine is that the delete vote stayed because the answer was eventually self-deleted, and then self-undeleted.. perhaps that doesn't clear delete votes by others?
That clears that up then... this room is always a good rubber duck :)
@terdon I disabled automatic emoji conversion on Discord for that reason
Yes, someone (you, perhaps?) told me how to do that. I was very pleased :)
@rene Darn, now I have no idea why this message is so funny

16:25
@M.A.R. Okay. This one is funny :D Thanks for linking that @rene, or I might've missed it! :D
Maybe I should add that to my question where I complain chat is completely inaccessible
@Tinkeringbell Ugh
@M.A.R. Go write a poem and grab a bounty ;)
I can also just assume it's on the star board because it's rene, because rene's the new Bart
@Tinkeringbell inappropriately wide and long yawn
I miss Bart.. he was such a nice person to dislike.
16:27
I miss his inability to come up with strong comebacks when I mocked his smiting stick
Or that's how I perceived it anyway
@M.A.R. oooh, you little #@$%^$&@#$%$#^!
That's a long word.
Long words can't be impolite
Now if it was %^&, I would have definitely flagged it
% would have caused me to rage quit
Big emoji's are the best.
I used to have a room where it was a bit of a habit to post them...
@Mithical Wonders if that's "Barriers to collaboration or participation". Doesn't really seem to meet the explanation given though...
As with all the da-best things, people overuse them and you're suddenly 🤮 when you see a 😆
Hmm. Disappointing, that one is tiny...
16:35
And that one too, gawd it's so overused it sometimes feels like it means the opposite
I shall strive to find the least used emoji and post it here.
According to Google:
@LinkBerest Right :P But too tiny ;)
if you can still see it: its too big :P ;)
> this room is always a good rubber duck :)
Trueeeeee
...
16:37
@LinkBerest Hahaha Can you image a post written with emoji as big as these though?
@Spevacus Either it's all a quote, or none is :P
Multiline is evil
Multiline is how Shelob trapped Harry Potter
Or was it Austin Powers?
Hmm, maybe it was Shaggy
yabba-dabba-doo?
Which one says weird stuff in a made up language and saves their skin?
Was that before or after Danny Phantom saved Narnia?
16:40
Oh, I should be more specific?
Something something time turner plot lines.
@Tinkeringbell lol, yes actually (my aunt uses the zoom magnifier so she doesn't have to wear her glasses and facebook posts are amusing when that big)
@Spevacus Before, but I think it was after Coyote caught Ernie.
@LinkBerest Ahhh. Yeah, that makes sense ;)
@M.A.R. any Python programmer
@JohnDvorak No cigar unless they look famished and nerdy, with big glasses.
Then they can be the protagonists
16:42
and a scar
@M.A.R. Presto, the magician? (or really anyone who remembers playing a magician in D&D)
@Mithical would be helpful if users link to the context of their poems. Some of them I can't figure out
Professor Calculus?
There is only one "Professor" and his name is Farnsworth!
I actually forgot about Tin-Tin though (my dad used to love the comics)
Never been much of a Tin-Tin fan... but I got a load of Lucky Luke and Asterix comics from dad, and also Suske and Wiske (don't know if they have an English name)
16:53
Spike and Suzy, Willy and Wanda, or Luke and Lucy depending on which English country you were in (I knew them as Spike & Suzy)
What boring names...
I just barely remember them from my dad's TinTin magazines
Of course, those would've been similar... I think dad's Lucky Luke comics would also have a list of other comics by the same publisher...
