5:00 PM
What's a comic?

its like a TV show but on paper

It's so much better than a TV show :)
Though I just read Lucifer is getting another season and I'm definitely watching that.

There was this really good™ Tin Tin cartoon I used to watch as a kid, that's why I love Tin Tin
@Tinkeringbell Very very citation needed, Tink

Hey, just let me enjoy being opinion based for once... :(

5:07 PM
Unsurprising, consider I remember you mostly treat TV as white noise creator
So yeah, I could also just switch to CSI: NY all day and call TV passable at best

@LinkBerest 5 reasons I'm not gonna read a post titled like that

you said citation you never said it had to be a good one ;)

WILL YOU let me be academically immodest at peace.

@M.A.R. It is mostly white noise, yes :) RN, it's Star Trek. Makes good white noise for crocheting, as it's either aliens that aren't hostile just misunderstood, or some variation on 'logical thing that can be destroyed by being more logical than the logical thing'. After 3 episodes you can predict what happens next :P

5:10 PM
@Tinkeringbell Haha so your Star Trek aliens comment the other day wasn't random

There have been some interesting papers on why comics are better than books/novels for teaching children to read mind you. And the reasons they give would be transferable to TV shows (which do not typically allow for the practice of reading and comprehension skills) - I could go find one of those if you need :P ;)

@M.A.R. Nope! Honestly.. dogs in costumes, and calling that an alien? XD

@Tinkeringbell Give them a break, it was 1966
You can check how Batman looked like back at 1966 for comparison

@M.A.R. That old? That would make it older than my mom...

wouldn't Dr.Who be a better comparison there?

5:12 PM
@LinkBerest No, it's certainly interesting why a 4-year-old wouldn't like reading Pride and Prejudice over overgrinning pictures :p

well, ELL doesn't always mean "young" and I have a few of those studies too :P ;)

@terdon I rest my case

Yeah, that doesn't do much to disprove your point :)

@LinkBerest I DEMAND PROOF! I DEMAND METHODOLOGY!

5:15 PM
I actually grew up watching those in the 80s/early 90s!

@terdon $deity that's ugly.

@LinkBerest Dr. Who always sounded like too geeky for me.
Like comics.

In the early 70s, there was an Australian / British band named Tin Tin. They had one big hit, a short psychedelic pop song named Toast and Marmalaide for Tea.

Never managed to spark enough interest

But let's not confuse that crap with proper graphic novels! Some of the latter are absolute literary gems.

5:17 PM
And they seem to be handling moderner Dr. Who's like Disney is handling its classics, so thanks but no thanks

(which is why we snobs don't like to call them 'comics')

Comic boo . . . Comic b-b . . . Comic pamphlets :p

picture books!

@M.A.R. just the design that went into Dr.Who aliens in 1965 is amazing when compared to Star Trek

Related, but not a dupe: Coloring books

5:19 PM
@M.A.R. And just like picture books, these days those come with genres for children and adults!

Jokes aside, I'm sure any medium that allows messages more than 140 characters can produce some amazing art.
@Tinkeringbell I . . . really don't wanna go there

Adult coloring books are nice... I have one with Van Gogh paintings :)

Oh. Comes back before going there
So, on the 140 characters thing, how on Earth can you people use Twitter?

It's easier now that it's 280
And if things still doesn't fit, hammers or multiple posts, it's called a thread ;)

My wife likes adult coloring books (esp. because its fun to complete them with our kids but also to play with the mediums she uses in her art) - she also has a few Van Gogh ones (mine and her favorite artist)

5:23 PM
Typing the URL into the address bar and consciously entering Twitter (rather than following a link), I haven't managed to be disgusted later than in a 3-minute window.

@LinkBerest To be fair, I like the really simple kids books best. I prefer coloring one big area over a lot of small stuff.

It's an opportunity for people to mostly share their opinions? Well people's opinions tend to be appalling and disgusting

@Tinkeringbell She does both (depends on if she likes the picture really) - its just a "let me shut my brain off for a bit and enjoy something" activity for her

Unless you block absolutely every trending hashtag and every "popular story" there is to follow, and just message a colleague, like an alternative to texting

@M.A.R. It also offers some opportunity to keep up with what people are doing, if you follow people that share that stuff...

5:25 PM
Maybe it's because I've only ever done this exploring in 2020, and I should pick another time

@LinkBerest Yeah, exactly that :)
@M.A.R. That sounds like an idea :)

An old friend of mine is a comic book artist. He's putting together a new website: beaumontjardine.com

@M.A.R. NCIS is better
@PM2Ring flagging as spam ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Bones is best.

@M.A.R. tried my Random Image Generator?
@Tinkeringbell different genre
Not really police
Also, dominant female character...

5:40 PM
Didn't NCIS have that too?

Isn't it Gibbs?

Hmm, I always thought of Gibbs more as a side character...

I mean the leading character of the show.
@Tinkeringbell nah... No show without him.

Well, then for Bones that would probably be the FBI officer she works with?
I don't know... I haven't watched either in a very, very long time.

@Tinkeringbell nope, he's her sidekick.
I watched it all...

5:42 PM
I'll take your word for it then.

Last season was broadcast here about a year ago.

1 hour later…
7:02 PM
@Tink what about Killing Eve? Did you watch it?

Nope... is it worth watching? What is it about?

@Tinkeringbell professional female assassin is being hunted down by novice female secret agent and they fall in love. Lots of unique styled deaths, lots of background stories, good side characters.

Ah, blegh. Love stories.

My rating: 80/100
Nah

🚽

7:10 PM
Love is secondary, and it's not erotic.

I'm with user on this one.

(if it was, I would probably give 100 ;>)
@Tinkeringbell your loss ;)

I lose so often, I'm used to it by now.

And too bad there are no good shows about toilets! I think... 🤔
@Tinkeringbell but this time you lose on purpose... :P
throwing Eve on @M.A.R

Hey @ShadowWizardWearingMask be nice to Tink!

7:16 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's like a table flip when you're losing Monopoly anyways :P

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yawn
The one and only TV show for haters is BrBa.

7:57 PM
@M.A.R. Your face is a smiting stick.
That will be all

Whaaat
No no no

@Bart He's here! :D HI!!!
How've you been?

You can't just leave
@Bart
Stay
:D

Social distancing, sorry.

7:58 PM
Surely your anti-virus software is up to date.

See, I'm protected

I refuse to believe otherwise.

I'm not taking any risks.

That's good :) More people should do that, though it'd make the room very boring.

Also, I just said yesterday to @Eleeza that you're gone, @Bart

8:00 PM
I can only apologize for making you a liar

Now she can call me a liar
:P
@Bart apology not accepted, unless you'll stick around for a while!

Haha, I'm making no promises. Times are busy, and it was kinda good being away from the site

Full time vacation
How's your Smiting Stick then? @Bart
Hope you kept it clean and ready to use, we always have use for it.

It has seen fairly little action. I'll have to check if government restrictions have been lifted

@Bart No promises but I do feel the site is rather polite and quiet at the moment, except for the troll this morning ;)
You missed me smiting a troll!

8:04 PM
Oooooh, well done

I'm a fast learner :P

Aw, darn, did I miss the troll?
Sad day. Couple of them in the past few days, but they get smote pretty quickly.

Seen several who copy and paste part of existing answer and post as new answer, on MSE.

Have you flagged them? I remember handling one this morning, but haven't seen any others...

@Bart did you use the prayer button on SO already?
@Tinkeringbell yeah, as NAA if I remember correctly.

8:09 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask They're A/B testing. You don't even know if he's seeing them, perhaps he can clap! :)

Wait, what now? Prayer button?

Also great way of proving site isn't entirely fixed yet :P

@Tinkeringbell afaik the test is just for the shape, hand clasp or prayer

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Hmm.

@Bart yup. To say thanks.

8:10 PM
Oh yeah, I saw tweets about that.

By a former mod?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yeah, I interpreted it as being something they might test and then retract if data proves it solves no problem, but apparently that was too optimistic.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask lots of former people around on Twitter :D

@Tinkeringbell that's too big of a change to ditch.

Still... :P One can hope!

8:11 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I typically flag those as NAA as well. They typically get hoover'd by the LQP queue. Maybe we should be mod flagging for account dEsTrUcTiOn?

@Bart well that one tweet a lot about SO. ;)

Enough of those LQP deletions could cause auto-suspension though, right?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask true :D

@Spevacus nope, never auto suspension.

o i c

8:12 PM
@Spevacus Not suspension, answer ban perhaps.
If it's the same account each time.
I can dig through Sha's NAA flags tomorrow, if I remember ;)
Right now it's too close to bedtime.

Oooh, sleepytime.

Yep! If there's one thing this whole COVID is good for, it's getting enough sleep :)

@Tinkeringbell so early?? ;)

10:15 PM - 7:15 AM makes 8 hours ;)

@Tinkeringbell yeah, slept 6 (!) hours every night! 50% raise...
Now back to 4

8:15 PM
... how are you still alive?

You had to ask?

You've been away too long.

I am having flashbacks.

8:16 PM
Lol
I'm honored to be part of your flashbacks. :D

You're not part of... you're the cause ;)

Even greater honor!
:P
Also, now we can ping @Bart for whole week! Yay!

Yeah, if you annoy him enough he might stay away forever... good move!

On that note, I will also get my sleep. Early days to avoid rush hour traffic on the train :)
See you in a few months

@Bart Ugh, that sucks. See ya! Stay safe!

8:19 PM
If only @Dro and @ber will be back, past will truly repeat itself.... ;)
@Tinkeringbell nah... He love my pings... ;)

You better be very, very sure ;)

Anyway... Israel is facing a Second Wave, but number of hard cases (that need hospital) is very low compared to first wave. As if the virus is weakened.
And all in all, people are not afraid anymore.

Let's hope the virus is weaker, though it sounds strange to me.
No second wave here yet, but definitely coming I think. Our R went over 1 again today...

Read some theory about it a while ago, related to conspiracy theory that it was engineered and programmed to self destruct over time.

Oh nice, more conspiracies. Just what the worlds needs :P

8:28 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I am afraid people getting unafraid too early :(

@πάνταῥεῖ indeed, so they're not being careful... :(

Well, perhaps a good conspiracy theory will make for pleasant dreams. I'll try. Night!

Night!
Let us know what you dreamed about... ;)

I almost never remember, I think I dream very little ;)

Everyone thinks that, but it's most probably untrue ;)

8:43 PM
i had a very vivid dream last night, so much so that i still remember most of it. i was in space around venus, and there was an abandoned space station there that i used as a... rest stop. refuel and what not. walked through it, then left. then i had another dream where i was one of the resarchers on said station and lived out the catastrophy that resulted in it being abandoned

8:56 PM
Your dreams are a scifi novel

Rob
9:22 PM
@Tinkeringbell Slightly higher than 1 is bad:

10:02 PM
@user400654 Mith is right. Write a book on that.

2 hours later…
11:43 PM
@SonictheMaskedWerehog ?
