@SmokeDetector o/

Mr. Fullerton :(

he was really ok

He seemed like one of the okayest.

Well.
All I can say is that I have a feeling he could be what Yaakov became. But he didn't. I'll leave it at that, no point digging inside old wounds.
Still, can't take what he did, and he did very well. :)
Got a new question for Life Hacks.... hope to post it in 6-8
@M.A.R can easily guess what it's about.... and actually @Mith too, both know me well by now. :D

6-8 question revisions

1:09 PM
lol
It's ready in my head, there's a picture too. So it's over 1000 words. ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask if months, then babies, if minutes then something about being on the toilet?

@djsmiley2kStaysInside hehe, one of those is correct!! 6-8 points to you. :D
Well it's now or never.....

1:28 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask poor LH

Done!
:P
@Mithical well they like my toilets/bathroom questions... all got 10+ votes. ;)

I love the sad face, hahaha

If you know how that thing is called, I'd be grateful. :)
To be honest, no idea how it's called in Hebrew too, lol.
So maybe "construction" is actually correct...
But it was installed few months ago, and "stuck" at least three times. So useless...
It does reduce waste of paper, so probably worth the money.

point taken

No points for you!
taking point back from @rene

well I am just asking "why", I find this feature useless but I am wondering why it is only in SO and the answer was quite clear — Bashir 34 secs ago
Anyone that downvoted might want to reconsider ;)

I hadn't, but I'll toss an upvote that way. Thanks for reposting ;)

snatching @Spe's upvote mid-air

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Be nice now, you :P
I think if you want your generic post, better write something with a [faq-proposed] tag in mind, and not edit this one, btw :)
On the other hand these types of questions are not asked that often, so I don't know if it's useful to add them to the list of 'frequently' asked questions ;)

yeah, no faq.

Good. Then I get to keep my easy rep :D

1:48 PM
raising white flag, taking away downvote slowly
:D

Much appreciated :)

Yeah, flag is heavy.
All that white.

If you don't mind, I'd like to leave the comments a little while longer, so people can see it and I don't have to have the same conversation with someone else :P
I can clean them up tomorrow or the day after, probably :)

No problem, I rarely delete comments to be honest. And don't mind when they're deleted. :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask H-hey! Give that back!
I need it :(
tosses it towards Tink's answer

1:55 PM
Catch!
Misses.
Sorry. I'm horrible at catching stuff.

I know a lot of people where, even if you toss something very lightly and underhand, they'll still drop it/miss entirely. I feel for those people :(
Similarly, there are those who will lob pieces of balled-up paper/other objects at the trash can and miss every time, but they still go for it regardless.

My problems started after I got glasses. My depth perception never really returned to normal after I had managed several years of having 1 dominant eye.
I can do some amazingly precise things like needlework, but anything that moves at me manages to confuse my brain ;)

Every time my prescription changes it's very dizzying. More so with glasses than contacts, though.
Freakin' astigmatism.

Okay, I keep moving then ...

@Spevacus I apparently got rid of that last checkup. I must admit, it did make me dizzy a little on the walk home but things are also much clearer now :)

2:02 PM
@Tinkeringbell Mine appears to be tapering off. Very small changes in the last two years. Hopefully full-stop soon. Have you considered laser eye surgery? I'm kinda afraid of it but at the same time, not having to worry about corrective lenses at all sounds pretty cool.

@Spevacus I think you have to have had a stable prescription for a few years before you can do so? I never really considered it beyond that, because that's never happened to me :P

Yeah. Wouldn't want to cement a change in your eye if it's going to become nulled out not long after T_T

Besides that, I don't mind wearing glasses too much, and if my eyes are stable that would mean I can finally do longer with the expensive glasses so it's not like laser saves a lot of money then :P

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I think the stance is similar to this image:

2:28 PM
Well, 3D television has mostly failed, so at least you're not missing out on much in the virtual world...

Rob
@Tinkeringbell If you have expensive glasses for 25% more you can get wavefront lenses, allowing you to see better than 20/20 - it uses the same equipment as laser eye surgery, except the information is used to adjust the lenses instead of your eyes.

@Rob I majority-suspect that that's a scam

@Rob Hmm, my brand of lenses isn't on that list.
> Asphor is a aspherical lens design, which reduces the effect of the eye appearing smaller or larger behind the lens. The lens has a flatter basecurve than spherical lenses.
Mine also has a coating that keeps out some UV and makes them more resistant to scratches.

@Tinkeringbell multicoated?

Rob
If you are unhappy with your prescription perhaps that is why. With HD (high definition) lenses (which can even be wrap-around style) whichever direction you look everything is super sharp and detailed; better than normal vision.

2:38 PM
@JourneymanGeek single, I think? 174 NevaMax UV, according to the card ;)
@Rob Oh well. As long as I need new lenses every year or two, not worth it, perhaps ;)

ah
:D
Mine's just scratch resistant
I actually changed my to current pair cause the frame on the old one slightly disintegrated

@JourneymanGeek Yep, same here. Had new lenses last year around this time, but now the frame fell apart.
And apparently my eyes changed enough to need new lenses again

ah
uh. Probably will settle down when you're 30ish :D

Has to hurry up then, it has only 1 year and a few months left :P

Rob
Here is the video from one place offering the technology: youtu.be/kKTwapn5U0g - your Optometrist probably would have to send you to a different office; unless they have the equipment. My Optometrist has newer equipment everytime I go, my Dentist (3 dentists ago) had WWII equipment. Some doctors stay at the leading edge, and some never upgrade anything.

2:52 PM
I'm happy with Windows 3.11

My optometrist had a new, remote controlled device to measure eyes last time I went. Safer, with COVID and stuff.

It also came with a new way to measure astigmatism, which I found a much easier test. It made us wonder if my eyes had changed, or just my answers :P

Rob
@Tinkeringbell Did the device look like this?:

Hahaha no :P

Rob
Whew!

It looked much like any other device used for measuring eyesight, except that now they didn't have to change the lenses used for testing manually ;)

2:56 PM
Did it look like this, then?

Like, when they go 'which is better, 1 or 2' it was just a button press :P
@JohnDvorak Cute, but no ;)

Rob
The Octopus, that's super old tech. Dinosaur optometry.

Despite being an archaeologist, I kinda like dinosaurs too :)

@Spevacus sorry, already used. tossing used vote over to @Spe

You used my stolen vote?
flips table

3:00 PM
@Rob heh, yeah. Still nice find of course. ;)
@Spevacus sure, it's too big for my pocket.

Rob
@Tinkeringbell This is what the new equipment looks like, the test is fast:

@Spevacus great, now you broke the flowers pot. @rene will be furious. :D

Rob

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Collateral damage is sometimes necessary ;D

@Rob Ahh, that looks like one of those really annoying tests mine has, where they fire some air at your eyeball... I think it's to measure eyeball pressure or something like that.

Rob
3:04 PM
Yeah, I've been going for years; that's not a test in North America ....

@Rob It's... usually pretty standard over here, the only time they didn't do it was last time, probably because COVID ...

@Tinkeringbell air into the eyes??? Never had or heard about it.... sure you didn't fell victim to some weirdo? ;)

Intraocular pressure (IOP) is the fluid pressure inside the eye. Tonometry is the method eye care professionals use to determine this. IOP is an important aspect in the evaluation of patients at risk of glaucoma. Most tonometers are calibrated to measure pressure in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). == Physiology == Intraocular pressure is determined by the production and drainage of aqueous humour by the ciliary body and its drainage via the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral outflow. The reason for this is because the vitreous humour in the posterior segment has a relatively fixed volume and thus...

Rob
Did you have to dance and clap during the test?

3:05 PM
Hahaha no :P Just sing XD

Or remove your socks? :D

Why would I do that?!

Rob
You wouldn't, and they wouldn't be blowing air into your eye.

Hahaha

Rob
Unless you are at risk for Glaucoma that is not necessary, especially for someone as young as you.

3:10 PM
@Tinkeringbell new eye test: count fingers in your legs.
:D

@Rob The local Walmart optometrists use it around here (northwestern PA) but other practices don't do it unless there's reason to do so.

considering changing profession and become eyes doctor

@Rob Morbidly obese, highly near-sighted and family history. Guess it makes sense.

My numbers are -4.5 in the left eye, and -1.5 in the right eye.
Been like that for the last 20 years or so.

Rob
@Tinkeringbell In that event an OCT is necessary, but the equipment looks like this:

3:20 PM
Why not just install a tiny component in the eye that will check it from the inside?

Sounds invasive

But efficient...

Speaking tangentially, how long until we get chips implanted in our brains that allows to browse the internet within our heads?

Rob
All in good time ....

@Spevacus umm... I do it already, all the time. :P
See also: imagination. ;)

3:29 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask those are rookie numbers

lol
I can't see anything without glasses or eye contacts.
Unless I leave only right eye open.... :D

-6 in my right eye, -3.5 in my left

+astigmatism

What's the number for blindness?

3:30 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask legally? -10 I think

hmm, so we're far from there.

don't worry, my grandmother hit -12

@Mithical Ouch, all on the same drive?

3:31 PM
Sorry, that was insensitive, but I can't resist a bad pun.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask She hit 12 people.

lol
Doubt one is allowed to drive with such numbers...

(It's gotten slightly better as she got older)

Back at army I was at -1.5 and -2 (I think), and wasn't allowed to drive without glasses.
After army it went up (down?) to -4.5 and stayed there.

A detached retina is more likely than complete blindness from nearsightedness in my family in any case.
We assume that's what happened to my great-grandfather.
As he crossed the street.
It would explain why he didn't see the truck.

:(
When did it happen?
Well, trucks also hit people that do see them.

3:34 PM
A looong time ago. I don't remember, but... decades.

Keep hearing horror stories in the media about those things. :(

Mar 14 '19 at 9:31, by Mithrandir
I've got a hole in my retina, they want to poke lasers at it

To sum up: eye problems run in the family and I never stood a chance, especially with the retinopathy of prematurity.

Funniest Stack Exchange error message:

@Rob lol, where's that from?

I think it was from the Review Queue, about a month ago; IIRC chosing "Other" and not giving a reason.

Q: Sorry buster, we are going to need a valid reason

Rocket HazmatI was looking at a question, and I noticed an edit. I decided to reject it. I click "custom", typed a nice little message, and when I clicked "reject". I got the following message: Sorry buster, we are going to need a valid reason What gives? I thought I gave a pretty valid reason in the...
