9:12 PM
COVID spotted on the Netherlands, take special care @rene @Tink @Cerberus @Anyone else

😷

meh
it's everywhere
the media are overblowing it

It seems to be under control in China, definitely not here and definitely not in the world though

~95% of fatalities are in the elderly

Granted, it's more like a severe cold than a doomsday virus

9:16 PM
The majority of the remaining 5% are those with serious pre-existing lung conditions

Still, more people are dying

If you don't have health complications and aren't over ~65(ish?), you have basically nothing to worry about

I'm not in the slightest bit afraid (illogically at least, even though I probably should be)
Tell that to my cowards of classmates

It's basically a very slightly more lethal version of the flu

Does that construction even work in the plural?

9:18 PM
yes

@ArtOfCode Shrug flu is dangerous for me

Aye, technically it's slightly dangerous for me than for a healthy person my age, too. But... it's still (a) unlikely I catch it, (b) unlikely it gets serious, (c) unlikely it's fatal, and (d) yay for the NHS

@M.A.R. it is in Tilburg. No one goes there and if you are there, you're probably stuck anyway. Virus or not.

So far, no confirmed cases in San Diego
(with the exception of a holding facility in the Miramar military base)

9:51 PM
whuhoh
@ArtOfCode unil it mutates...
until*.

Let's not fearmonger. It's very tiring.

A successful virus needs 3 things
1. spread without symtoms, the longer delay the better

@djsmiley2kTMW the p is silent

🚽

2. being very contagious
3. ?? deadilyness maybe. :D
@ArtOfCode I'm not
I looked at the figures for the spanish flu
and then this.

9:54 PM
@djsmiley2kTMW that's real PhD-level reasoning there :P

so you've played Plague, Inc too, huh?

And.... well it's as deadly so far, and.... we have far better levels of medical care now, than we did then.
oh yah I'm moving to madagascar.
I'm not worried about me, or even my kids
My parents.... more so.
However I think there's very little I can do, personally, at this time.

10:06 PM
either way, there appears to be an ambalance, someone in a hazmat suit, in town :/
hopefully it's a hoax.

or just an abundance of caution

Rob
There's one report from Japan of the same person getting sick a second time, but it's an early report, still mutation isn't impossible. Italy is where there's been an explosion this past week, source WHO.

health ministry here said we need to expect a pandemic
