@PM2Ring of course they want. And getting the bug reports only from a small group of loyal and trusted people is ideal for them. No -1, no shouting, no ranting.
Of course most non critical bugs will be "lost" and not reported, but those are never being fixed anyway.

Changing a woman's full name upon marriage is such a backwards tradition.
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog ?
@Hitodama Traditional Hindu.
I said something about last names before, but the first name is overstepping the line.
For context, it's the groom's family who decides the bride's new name.
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog yep, I was more wondering "why this message now" since it seemed to lack context.... but I guess I shouldn't be really the one nitpicking since I am pretty random in the first place.
@Hitodama There was a 1-hour break in messages, so I thought I could start a new topic
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog each and their own culture/tradition. As long as it's not causing real harm, I respect that.
10:22 AM
they change their first name too? wow
In the conservative Jewish culture, for example, a woman can't decide who to marry.
Her parents decide.
....make that the really really conservative culture.
most religion is backwards.... but discussing it here is likely pointless.
Yup, any name for that group? @user58
Niche Ultra-Orthodox?
10:23 AM
(doubt "haredim" is widely known....)
@ShadowThePrincessWizard That's also historically the case in traditional Hindu, but these days, she can disagree if she wants.
@user58 hmm.... Ultra then, yeah.
oh no don't call things ultra, that's offensive :|
@djsmiley2k-CoW unless we all agree about something, in a nice way. ;)
10:24 AM
@djsmiley2k-CoW @M.A.R. is ultra!
:P
> The actions of ultras groups are occasionally extreme and may be influenced by political ideologies such as conservatism or socialism, or views on racism, ranging from avowed nationalists to anti-fascist.[1] In some instances, this goes to the point where the passionate and loyal support of one's team becomes secondary to the theoretical ideology of the ultras phenomenon.[2]
This is ultra's, in football, but the reuse of language means sometimes, a word that's offensive in one meaning, won't be offensive in another
until we remember that, and stop allowing people to be upset by it, then there's gonna be pain lol
@Hitodama you're randomly random.
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog disagree, and then what? Just get another "option" from parents, until she gives up and says Yes? :)
Define "good". ;)
Uhm... I have coffee and am not stressed to death - for now
10:30 AM
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog oh, wasn't mean to be criticism. Sorry if it felt that way. I was just somehow surprised by the sudden topic change ^_^'
@Emanuele-reinsMonica-Ciriachi good! Keep it that way. :)
Well, anyway...the point was that I'm a member of the groom's family, and I'm partly tasked with picking out a new name, and I don't know what to say
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog Jenifer.
Not too long, simple, common.
...double "n", though.
45,600,000 results for single "n". ;)
Makes it more special, yet still common. :P
10:32 AM
1,400,000,000 for double "n" :P
Although I kinda doubt @Sonic was asking for name suggestions.
@ShadowThePrincessWizard Well, it must be an Indian name, and has to begin with specific consonant sounds. (Which are too personal to mention.)
Can a sound be personal? Oh well. :)
@ShadowThePrincessWizard I suspect many of those are typos.
Anyway..... if you oppose to the idea, just say so to your family. They should understand. @Sonic
@SonictheReinstateMonica-hog tu bed
If you prefer to "choose another battle", i.e. not fight with them over that it's fine too, but it's really up to you, @Sonic, little we can advise you here.
I find the tradition of forcing name change weird and bad, but like I said, respect that since it's not really harmful, just disrespectful to the woman in my own culture "standards".

Reminds me of some guy I knew, whom made a lot of mistakes, everytime he did, I called him Satnam.
The name change thing isn't universal
We don't do it.
Here it's common for the woman to change her last name to that of the husband's, but it's not a must.
Rob
Rob
I don't know about meaning, it's simply a Female name (and has one "n", which seemed to be what was being asked for).
huh
> Satnam is a Punjabi and Sanskrit word that translates as “true name,” “true identity,” or “God's Name is Truth.”
10:51 AM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard I don't think so, except browser's history
@MetaAndrewT. :(
Oh hey Hans, nice to see fresh faces, even if they're silent. :D
In Italy by default the bride takes the groom's name on marriage, but you are asked if you're ok with that.
@Emanuele-reinsMonica-Ciriachi last name, I hope?
Taking his first name would be super weird. ;)
Here it's almost the same, just not automatic. The bride has to manually change the name.
Rob
Rob
10:58 AM
There does seem to be some differences of opinion, a quick lookup suggests it's a popular male name (infrequently a female name), but I don't know how reputable these sites are (they're just first page Google): names.org/n/satnam/about gpeters.com/names/baby-names.php?name=Satnam
So how it works, @Emanuele? All the relevant authorities are notified about the marriage, and change the name by themselves to the name of the husband?
@ShadowThePrincessWizard except if you use the Twitter's integrated Bookmark feature
otherwise, no...
@Rob yeah, the second appears to just help you choose boy/girl name, without really delving into meaning.
@MetaAndrewT. huh. Not using it.
@ShadowThePrincessWizard I think so. I didn't marry in Italy, so I don't have first-hand experience.

Rob
@ShadowThePrincessWizard I wouldn't use either or any to choose, but I might use one to defend against the idea. I don't know the language, so how well it works for different names is unclear to me. --- In the last half century no one has asked what my name means, and it's rare to ask the meaning of the name in North America. --- What does Tom, Tony, Susan, Teresa mean? don't know.
@Emanuele-reinsMonica-Ciriachi except the prices, no? Someone here ranted about how expensive it is to buy a house in London. :)
@Rob not all names have a meaning, some are just.... names. :)
Rob
Rob
In Israel do most name mean something, and that (what each name means) is something taught in school?
@Rob many names are just taken from the (Old) Bible, so don't have any meaning of their own, as a word.
We managed to "get in" before the changes that prevented mortgage rates from being tax-deducible, so we had it easier.
11:18 AM
@Emanuele-reinsMonica-Ciriachi lucky! :)

Rob
Rob
Well, I guess we could say that about Peter, Paul, etc. in North America; but I don't know that anyone considers that.
But yes, if you're not a professional it's hard to save. Me and my wife saved as much as we could, we lived frugally at first
My kids are 9 and 7. Both Italian by nationality, but are half-blood Chinese-Italian.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Here we put adjectives in front of the name, if we want to distinguish the person. Eg: Fat Mike, Pretty Lisa, Crazy Mary, etc. (that way people whom are in the group know which of the people to whom we refer). The name itself doesn't have a meaning or connotation - Mike isn't rich or smart because his name's Mike (nor is he expected to be).
Congratulations @ShadowThePrincessWizard!
11:39 AM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard Most of them mean something, but that meaning often isn't what's relevant.

11:55 AM
@user58 It's true, @ShadowThePrincessWizard. Some names have a Wikipedia page about them, even Bill,: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_(given_name) or en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William
Rob
Rob
Bill is named after "William the Conqueror" - but for everyone named Bill or William that I know people call them Billy (the child name, and a diminutive insult). I can recall no "Bills" whom conquered, and one whom got in trouble with his well known wife.
Like "Eagle Power" says: I'll be back.
Well, Arnold is a strong name. :P
12:10 PM
Bill is a masculine given name, generally a short form (hypocorism) of William. It can also be used as the adaptation into English of the popular Greek name Vasilis or Vasileios (Basil), especially amongst Greek immigrants in English-speaking countries, probably due to similarly in the sound. People named Bill include: Bill Belichick (born 1952), American National Football League head coach Bill Bixby (1934–1993), American actor and director Bill Bowman (racing driver), former NASCAR Cup Series driver Bill Clinton (born 1946), 42nd president of the United States Bill Cosby (born 1937), American...

Make that two whom got in trouble with their wives, one much more than the other (surprisingly).
@Rob don't think Clinton got into any trouble with his wife.

12:29 PM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard A bit, they weren't talking for a while until they patched things up. The other Bill had his wife beside him, defending him 'till the end, on TV. Odd.
"Bill" has a negative connotation in North America, but not as a name, many people are deeply in debt and "bills" (notices of payment owing) and often viewed as unwanted - really if one didn't want the bill they ought not to have incurred the debt.

Quick question.
I assume no one in the room has even tried the SPFX Pnp Angular Element generator?
You're most likely correct.
1. What is this
2. How can I keep away from it
would have asked in the Sharepoint cht, but you know....
the only reason it is not frozen yet is because probably the main site room is protected from that
I guess I could try a question
just to... you know... reinforce the idea that the site is pretty useless for me.
@Hitodama I guess not many users puts on sunglasses share your point

no, I have no exposure to sharepoint or any of its QA companion sites
I think I saw some vultures flying over it yesterday...

a lot of unanswered ones, though
@Magisch oh, yep, that is one (not completely unlike wrong) way to see that.
@Magisch and this is another (probably better) one
1:59 PM
I am seriously thinking of doing a test and post the same question on both SO and SharePoint to see if one of the two sites can actually give an answer.
SO will likely close it as off topic
If someone there still cast close votes...
@ShadowThePrincessWizard you realize there are plenty of SharePoint questions on SO?
@Hitodama makes it personal mission to migrate or close every share point question on SO
actually nah
2:21 PM
So go ahead and post on SO.... :)
@ShadowThePrincessWizard For now, I will try and see if posting on SP will at least bring some comments.
If I get nothing, delete the question and probably repost.
If that still doesn't help, it will be another checkmark on my decision card.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard on a related notice, just did a views>10k search on SharePoint.
2.2k results
For comparison, on SO the same query returns more than 625k hits
bring that to 20k views and we have 726 results VS 319,506
@Hitodama well, not really fair. SharePoint is a tiny site compared to SO, in users/visits.
All sites combined are a small speck. I'm very surprised SE still keeps them these days, with all the "changes" going on.
They could very well say "For the better of the 50 million Stack Overflow users, we'll be closing all other sites in the network and give our SO users our full resources, as they deserve."
ETA: 2021, IMO.

Well - the other sites, in theory are relatively 'cheap' to run
@JohnDvorak nah, first they'll try Premium Membership.
Pay for privileges.
@JourneymanGeek nope. The main cost is the development, and the fact they have a different design, IMO. So they need to support it, test it, fix critical bugs, keep CM's to manage them, etc.
It's probably millions per year.

@JourneymanGeek code base yes, still, different core design.

@ShadowThePrincessWizard Eh, maybe

When reading the blog post about the Loop I was afraid SE is already gone, since only Stack Overflow is mentioned in there. ;)
stackexchange.com is still among the top 50 sites by traffic on the internet AFAIK. I don't think they'll be shutting it down so quickly. It's still a source of revenue.
@user58 no it's not. How can it be?? No ads in there. It just eats bandwidth, and most hits are likely mistakes anyway.
Yes there are.
There are sites besides SO that have ads.
@user58 OK, how?
@user58 with the tiny amount of views, I doubt it gives SE even $100 per month.
I don't mean the actual SE.com domain; I mean all the subdomains (e.g. the other sites).
4:40 PM
@user58 oh
Sounded like you mean the portal itself.
Sorry, I was unclear.
@ShadowThePrincessWizard - practically as a platform, both SE and teams are useful for a broader class of folks than devs.
Still, I stand on my opinion that non-SO sites are minor, money-wise, and just source for lost money.
@JourneymanGeek Teams, perhaps. SE, don't think so.
Unless SE will take it few steps forwards and bring real experts to the sites.
@ShadowThePrincessWizard SU and SF have quite a lot of useful things.
4:42 PM
(e.g. Microsoft Sharepoint developers to the SharePoint site, which appears to be useless to professional developers like @Hitodama without such experts)
@ShadowThePrincessWizard that would require a willingness to actively grow those sites
I've not seen that in tyears
@JourneymanGeek and likely pay more money, yes... and won't happen. Just wishful thinking. :)

Last week, we told you about research that found a number of security vulnerabilities in code snippets in Stack Overflow answers, and how some of those flaws had migrated into actual, real-live Github projects. Today, we’re following up on the top eight error types that research highlighted and suggesting ways to avoid making the same mistakes.

To get these answers, we checked the common weakness enumeration database for the numbers that Verdi et al posted in their research. We’re only addressing the CWE numbers that referred to specific weaknesses, not to categories, as those require a little more information before you can begin to address them.  …

I've got a bomb answer I have not yet posted. The top question (100+ upvotes and many views) is closed and wants deleting because it says "what's the best way" instead of "how do I". There's one open version that accepts a poor answer (every answer to any version of the question is short, link-only). Do I 1) reword and reopen the top question to answer it, 2) answer the open version, or 3) write my own Q&A, which will probably be dupe-closed even though it has the best answer?
Leaning towards 3, but open to suggestions.
