Might be a very expensive one, but yeah
As Tinkeringbell notes, there's also just the problem of getting a higher response rate than expected - if you normally get 10% of folks responding but certain locations go a lot higher, than you're gonna get more responses than you bargained for.
You can turn the survey off once you've passed your goal, but maybe not fast enough
on the bright side, at least we weren't giving away televisions for posting Q&A...

> We conclude with a hypothetical redesign of the site’s scoring system based on these behavioral differences, cutting the reputation gap in half.
Do I want to know?
user302202
New_reputation = 0.5*old_reputation
user302202
There you have it, the gap is cut in half.
I'm somehow thinking that's too nice and clean for a scientist to come up with ;)
user302202
19:17
Even cleaner: new_reputation = 42. The gap is gone!
I think I might peruse that article closer once I am really, really, really bored. For now, I'm feeling that it's leaning heavily towards overrating imaginary internet points and thus making a problem where there is none.
@Tinkeringbell this is either pseudoscience or parody
probably

computer generated gender inference. Okay, I'm not taking this really serious anymore :)
Pseudoscience then

@MEEisJohannGambolputty... Yes, they had self-vandalized their answer; I rolled it back.

Q: Singing the song of angry men

GalastelNigh three weeks ago, we made official our request to exit beta. During this time, efforts have been made to keep attention on the request: @ChrisSunami offered a bounty on the question in order for it to gain more attention, and I have been making edits to it in order to keep it on the first pa...

Heh!
Are they going to go through the whole song?
user302202
I thought it was pretty clear that "graduation" process is on hold, with no sites graduated since 2017-10-09.
user302202
Songs or no songs
@Mrs.Robinson Well, this is the first time I heard about that.

@Mrs.Robinson There weren't any sites that qualified to graduate in that time.

Hinduism was over 10Q/day for a while, at 19.1 currently.
user302202
Their meta situation is complicated, of course.
user302202
But it's something that an election might change... for better or worse.
@Mrs.Robinson They were, and then it dropped down to 6. It's not stable. If it's up higher now, we can revisit it but, as Robert said in the MSE answer to this, we're redoing the whole system to trash the idea of graduation entirely.

Q: Are edits performed by external, non-SE robots allowed?

Alex M.During my reviewing of Suggested Edits, I have encountered several of them attempted by user @Glorfindel. Upon closer examination, all were performed by a robot written by him and all consisted of replacing inlined "http://" images (which are no longer displayed, being considered insecure) with "...

@Tinkeringbell Agreed, they say: "Inferring gender of individuals from their online profiles is a complex problem." - that's a problem that they have not solved. The whole study seems based on a faulty premise. My assertion, I suggest, is supported by their statement: "In contrast to a 2012 study of men and women on Stack Overflow (Vasilescu et al. 2012), which found that men are more active on the site across all measures, we find that women are more likely to ask questions. There are several
possible explanations for this finding, for instance that the patterns of behavior on the site have changed, or because of differences in our approach to gender inference ...".
There certainly are portions of the study that seem reasonable but some of the approaches are odd (polite) and seem to skew the outcome.

- The elevator summary is: They figured out how to infer gender (with many fallacies to the approach) and because women ask more questions, and men answer more questions - with the scoring 5 rep for questions and 10 rep for answers - thus men have a higher reputation than women overall.
Not a sound study.

@Mrs.Robinson I think the quote is: "Mr. Spock: Doctor, even I, a half-Vulcan, could hear the death scream of four hundred Vulcan minds crying out over the distance between us."
@Mrs.Robinson eh. Hinduism is tricky. The subject matter can be highly obscure, and the politics pretty messy
