@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Does it really matter if deleted post are vandalized? I see many high profile SO users do it too.
@ɪBᴜɢ First, 10k users require an extra step to see what was behind the answer. Second, some users may think you posted that and thus flag you for trolling.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog when it's deleted it just means "no value here, don't see", so I disagree with your first standpoint. Second, 10k MSE users aren't any innocent so that one's also invalid

@Alex drop this in your browser console: "paste your string here".split(' ').join('<br/>')
paste the returned result into your post
substitute '<br/>' for ' \n' if you want pure markdown, but that'll leave you with a lotta lines
@ArtOfCode Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "browser console"?
07:10
@Alex if Chrome, press F12 then go to "Console" tab
It's a way to manually execute client script code in the context of the page you currently view.
@Alex the developer tools in your browser (hit F12) have a console that lets you run arbitrary JavaScript
@ShadowWizard Same for Edge and IE
Okay, I clearly have no idea what I'm doing. Is something supposed to happen when I put it in the console?
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog oh, never really tried. Thanks.
@Alex you should also then press Enter and you'll see.
You should get output of paste<br/>your<br/>string<br/>here, which you can copy and paste in SE editor to have the effect you asked for. :)
@Alex paste it in the console, replace the bit within "quotes" with the section you want split up, then hit Enter

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in title (98): Or testosterone increaser by rexen on wordpress.SE
@EKons why, because they're "too big"? In Israel we got similar situation, one giant supermarkets company with annual income of like 4B NIS, and few other smaller companies, not reaching this combined. But don't think many boycott the big company just for being almost a monopoly, they do have fair prices.
Okay, I got the output, but I'm confused as to what exactly to replace with what.
Apologies for being completely horrible at this.
@Alex the selection of a post you want to create a line break between every word in it.
Cut the selection from the post, put in console the way shown above, cut console output, put back in post. :)
I'm clearly doing something wrong... oh well.
07:30
Never mind, I got it.
Thanks everyone.
The problem was that my text was already on separate lines from the Excel sheet that I imported it from, so it gave me some error.
Ah, that would do it. If you already have separate lines, you can add 2 spaces to the end of each of them to make a line break
@JourneymanGeek They do some horrendous things to their staff
more so then other grocery chains
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Username similar to website in answer (51): The name of this part of a spoon by Sarasota Antique Buyers on ell.SE
@ArtOfCode I'd have to manually add thousands of spaces, though. I can get around the problem by copying the text from the post preview rather than the actual text box, because in the preview it all appears on one line.
that works
could also paste it with the line breaks by surrounding it with `` backticks, which allow new lines, and then .split('\n').map(s => s + ' ').join('\n')
07:36
@Magisch ah
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog it would be great if people didn't have to explain themselves every time they rolled back...
@JourneymanGeek Same response.
@ArtOfCode Sounds too complicated. Anyway, I got what I need, thanks for the help.
I didn't say that they have to, just that it's a good thing to do.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog eeeh. Makes it sound like they're a bad person for not doing it.
If you read back up there ^, there's me saying "I don't want to do this thing" and then you're coming straight back with "it'd be good if you did this thing anyway"
no, technically, you didn't tell me I have to do it, but... that doesn't come across as considerate of others' time
@Magisch how do you know?
07:43
@ShadowWizard There is one in my town and I personally know some of the employees
@ArtOfCode My mistake for not inferring that. Sorry for reading it too literally.
@Magisch oh. Well, from my few visits to Lidl in Germany I didn't see anything hinting about it, the cashiers all sat down comfortably, didn't appear tired or sad at all, etc.
In Israel we had big issue with cashiers suffering horrible conditions, but it was dealt with.
@ShadowWizard cashiers sitting down really isn't a thing to brag about here

That'd be correct
Were you in Israel at this age at all?
(i.e. when did you arrive?)
arrived here... at age 8
oh
Nice.
So Hebrew isn't your native language? Or did you speak Hebrew while in USA too?
@ShadowWizard wrong season for easter eggs ....
Hebrew is my second language... ...and I'm not especially great at speaking it; that's one downside of homeschooling while moving countries
09:41
@Mithrandir I see. Had no idea. :)
How would you? ;)
I have a cousin doing the opposite: he was born in Israel, and moved to USA at age of 8.
When he visited as adult, it was hard for him to speak Hebrew.
Missing words, strong accent, etc.
I've got a very strong American accent :P
But he still did עלייה, lived here for several years, until giving up and moving back to USA.
The few times I've visited the US since it felt really weird. I've gotten used to a tiny town in Israel ;D
09:44
He worked in Peres Center for Peace, reached some rather high position there.
@Mithrandir town? Was sure it's a "moshav"?
(which is.. village?)
everything falls under town
Really?? lol, learn something every day. :D
Noun: town (plural towns)
  1. A settlement; an area with residential districts, shops and amenities, and its own local government; especially one larger than a village and smaller than a city.
  2. Any more urbanized center than the place of reference.
  3. (Britain, historical) A rural settlement in which a market was held at least once a week.
  4. The residents (as opposed to gown: the students, faculty, etc.) of a community which is the site of a university.
  5. (colloquial) Used to refer to a town or similar entity under discussion.
(2 more not shown…)
huh

possibly

Yeah, that's one way to learn about what to flag and whatnot :P
It does require you to check your flags from time to time XD I learned that the hard way ;)
@rene :and sometimes get slapped with a wet trout?
@sau226 to back @Tinkeringbell's concerns a bit, do read meta.stackexchange.com/questions/303746/… among others before you actually flag.
@Tinkeringbell Thanks! I did some investigation and it seems that it keeps hitting the "5 answers from new users within 24 hours" requirement. So this means that every time a new user posts an answer, it will be protected. I think you should escalate that to the Community Team.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog IIRC there's already a feature request for that kind of stuff.
@Tinkeringbell I'm aware of that. Mods have the ability to escalate requests to the Community Team (according to an answer by Monica Cellio), and thus can get them to bump up the priority of that request.
Also, as far as I'm aware my job description is 'keep this thing clean', not 'meddle with backlog priorities'
12:02

So make a site specific meta request.
Tinkeringbell isn't your personal issue-escalator though
@Magisch I don't understand where in my mere statement of fact there exists a request for her to actually do it.
12:05
What Monica means is probably that we sometimes ping someone to say 'hey, are you aware of this thing, can it be done'. It makes no sense to do that for main meta.
Like taking a site out of HNQ on request.
> Tinkeringbell Thanks! I did some investigation and it seems that it keeps hitting the "5 answers from new users within 24 hours" requirement. So this means that every time a new user posts an answer, it will be protected. I think you should escalate that to the Community Team.
Yeah, my bad. They think ;)
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog emphasis mine
I think not :P
So I'm going to do some actual work right now, in between closing/deleting and unprotecting ;)
I suppose in the most literal meanings of the word that isn't a request, but "I think you should do X" implies "You should do X"
12:09
@Magisch I said, "escalate the fact that it will be protected automatically whenever a new user posts an answer". Wasn't referring to the original request there.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog if you're saying you did nothing wrong I beg to differ.

@Magisch Well, then I again boycott your boycotting of me boycotting boycotts!
That's sexist.
Why do people never girlcott things?
5
@JourneymanGeek no, but boycotting boys is. :D
@Tinkeringbell Tinkeringbells_Boycotts.forEach(function(boycott){boycott(boycott);});
12:53
@Magisch It should be recursive boycotting :P
> This noun comes from the name of Charles C. Boycott, an English land agent in 19th century Ireland who refused to reduce rents for his tenant farmers. As a result, the local residents did not want to have any dealings with him. Boycotts are an effective way to use your spending dollars to affect change.
Online dictionaries are such a life saver nowadays!
@Tinkeringbell function boycott(boycott){ if (boycott.boycott) { return boycott(boycott.boycott); } else { return 'I boycott thee' }} boycott(tinkeringbells_boycott);
thanks for the continued efforts at keeping that question unprotected, @Tinkeringbell and @ShadowWizard ;P
@JourneymanGeek reminds me of discussion I had with my kids. They heard about the Big Ben clock, and the daughter said it's not fair. In Hebrew "Ben" means "boy". So she asked why there's no famous clock for "girl"... and in Hebrew, girl is "bat", which would make it Big Bat. But then I told my children that isn't a good name because that same word can mean something totally different... </end-due-to-@Derpy-might-flag> :P
@JNat cheers! ;)
