@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog : Where is Spider House?
I've heard of "sushi house"
And "pizza house/hut"
@user1271772 That is private information, if she wants to talk more about it she will
And "casa de tacos" i.e. "taco house"
but never "spider house"
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog no clue. I've been there maybe four times and only gotten drinks... and it's been four years.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog google.ca/…
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog yet it was mentioned here...
00:02
@Catija Yeah, I don't drink.
I mean coffee/tea.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog that's good for the health, I believe
Is there a reason you're asking me about Spider House?
@Catija if I remember correctly, he was saying that he didn't like the food but "maybe I ordered the wrong stuff"
"I tried out the food at Spider House a couple weeks ago, and I didn't really like it. Did I order the wrong stuff?"
I believe he is asking whether or not he ordered the wrong stuff, haha
00:06
@Catija You mentioned that name to me a while ago, and I happened to recall it, so I figured before I travel to San Diego for Diwali I should try it
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Isn't Diwali over?
@user1271772 "a couple weeks ago"
Oh hahahahah sorry!
Anyway the spider house I found was in Austin Texas, not San Diego
@user1271772 My main residence is in San Diego, but I go to college in Austin
I understand
Is Texas A&M there?
00:12
@user1271772 No, that's in College Station, Texas, northeast
There's a city called "College Station" ? haha
funny name for a city
LOL
YES, I'VE DONE IT! Reached 10k earned this calendar year
2
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog That was your goal wasn't it?
00:15
@user1271772 Gonna have to wait until the table gets updated at 0:00 UTC daily
It's already 0:15 UTC
Funny that EVERYONE in the top 40 on Meta has been "member" for more than 6 years, then #41 is Gorfinkel who has only been member for 3 years
Gorfinkel?
this room went downhill real fast
@AndrasDeak When did it start going downhill?
46 mins ago, by Catija
@rene yep. I saw it five minutes before I got pinged.
there ^
00:21
I guess it wasn't that fast, I just wasn't looking at this tab
haha I see
user168476
@user1271772 How is it that we had just discussed Glorfindel's name earlier and you were just obviously looking at it in the user list and you still spell it wrong
copy/paste is a wonderful tool
glad to hear that, and here I was worried that my original phrasing of "dumpster fire" would've been too harsh
@AndrasDeak What was "dumpster fire" in relation to?
@Ash : oh that's a good point. I guess the problem is that I've had "gorfinkel" in my head for sooooooo long.
You know Jordan B. Gorfinkel ?
00:33
The famous musician. Friend of Simone.
I knew him as the comic book guy, didn't know he was also a musician
Who is Simone?
You know. Simone and Gorfinkel.
That's Garfinkel
Not Gorfinkel
No, it's Glorfindel
no it's Glorfenkel
00:36
I'm talking about Simone and Garfinkel
The singers
Oh, my bad.
It's not Simone and Gorfinkel, it's Garfinkel for sure man
You sure?
nah it's definitely Glorfenkel
And it might even be "Simon"
00:37
@ArtOfCode rings a bell
Simone is a girls name, as far as I know
Oh, turns out Simone can be a men's name in Italian
Don't be so closed-minded
Simonne and Glorfenkel
"Simone (given name), a feminine (or masculine, in Italian) given name of Hebrew origin"
@ArtOfCode *end
00:39
It's as if Italian is the ONLY language where it can possibly be masculine.... would downvote if I could
I'm going to have another baby boy, and name him Simone. Then I can edit that wiki article to say "Simone (given name), a feminine (or masculine, in Italian, or English) given name of Hebrew origin"
That'll show 'em
If it turns out to be a girl name her Gorfinkla
What I mean is that I'm going to keep having babies until one of them is a boy
But I'm not actually going to do that
My girlfriend doesn't want me to have any more babies with her
She also wants me to reduce my Stack Exchange usage, she calls it an "addiction"

draks ...I recently looked at the meta.math.stackexchange.com and found the second anniversary was celebrated. Jon EricsonThe last time we lifted the level cap was in 2015. In 2014, we added a unilateral close-as-duplicate power for gold tag badge holders, but no new reputation level. So we've been thinking about giving users more reasons to keep playing. (I've answered this question with some circumstantial evidenc...

Will this be taken seriously? I'd love there to be a 30k privilege.
Or even something higher like 50k.
03:19
In general, if I write to Stack Exchange support via /contact, how long should I expect until I get a reply? Is a reply even guaranteed?
Specifically when asking for a community manager to help with two moderators fighting with each other (so "Other" in the field asking for the reason for contacting).
0
Q: Add an "estimated response wait time" to the contact page

Sonic the Anonymous HedgehogA lot of us have waited a very long time for the SE team to respond to a contact request via the contact form. Some of us just get impatient waiting, especially if we believe that the issue is (quote) "important". Also, the SE team gets a rather large volume of contact requests within each catego...

Oh huh, didn't expect there'd be a question exactly for that. Thanks.
@forest I'm a step ahead of you
Oh it's assigned me a support ticket. This is gonna take a while. :P
@forest Is this about the "repair" question on Electronics? Are they at it again?
03:33
lmao yes
I mean I just saw some stuff on meta and politely asked what the official stance is. I was quickly belittled and called "not a member of their community" for not having much rep, among other things. So despite not wanting to judge the situation without having more information, I certainly have an opinion now.
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Well, at least your response implies that this is pretty rare on Stack Exchange, if you can immediately pinpoint where the drama is coming from without me specifying the actual site. :P
@forest True. On Wikipedia, it happens often enough that they have an official policy on wheel-warring by admins: all admins involved in the wheel war get their privileges revoked.
user168476
We aren't wikipedia, though. (And I think in many ways thats a good thing)
@Ash Yeah, in this case I wouldn't argue for the mod who was reopening the question to have their moderator privileges revoked, since they were clearly acting in accordance with community consensus.
Well generally we tend to have less drama than Wikipedia.
03:42
After all, that one site is the only community I've ever seen with moderators who both other moderators and the community seemed to disagree with.
As opposed to Wikipedia where pretty much every popular page is like that...
But Nick's actions are completely unprofessional: he's disregarding community consensus.
Well and insulted users and insinuated that they are not part of the community.
I'd argue for a full review of his moderator actions and hope that the other mods or the SE team initiate a formal removal proceeding.
I mean I started by refusing to pass judgement (I know how much shit mods can get from unruly users), but I certainly have an opinion now. Though I don't really want to bring up drama in this room (not meaning to complain about them here, you just happened to guess what I was referring to by moderator fights. :P)
@forest In my opinion, mods are subject to a higher standard when evaluating CoC violations.
They're expected to lead by example.
Nick's setting an extremely bad example.
03:45
Yeah. Well and I've even seen a mod on WorldBuilding (I think) where a mod was removed due to suspicions, despite the entire community loving him.
@forest When it comes to mods violating rules, one has to keep the Super Mario Problem into account: it shouldn't be that conduct that gets a normal user suspended should only get a mod de-modded.
I've never heard that metaphor, but I take it that it's referring to big Mario being turned into little Mario when taking damage instead of losing a life?
@forest Yes
The proper analogy is that of Sonic: there's no "super" status, and taking damage with rings will cause Sonic to lose the rings, akin to getting suspended and losing all rep, and taking damage a second time causes Sonic to die (akin to deleting the account)

@AndrasDeak well your trolling caused babies... ;-)
07:09
@Makyen I don't think it's your code that caused it. It's also not that big a deal, I've learned to easily work around it
Just looks like 2 SE built interfaces that aren't designed to work with each other, but that's ok, the script still works as intended, only in ~20% of cases you have to drag the flag dialog away a lil
@Magisch I'd appreciate it if you could point me at an example.
1. Get to someone's rep history, 2. Find an expandable rep event with the flag link (2 or more), 3. click flag on it. Now every time you click inside the flag dialog the event will collapse / expand
so the background jerks a bit
18 messages moved to Chimney
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog you might disagree with how he do things but... eh, its not nice to call out people.
@Magisch I have not been able to reproduce this in either Chrome or Firefox.

@Magisch That could help. What browser/userscript manager/OS are you using?

OK. Thanks.
08:40
@user1271772 I see that the script manages to downvote the question, but does not 'highlight' the downvote button. I was planning to have it reload the page after all actions have been done, that would solve that problem. Thanks for notifying me about it.
any idea what does this mean?
I didn't understand the -2 for user removal. Either +2 or -10 is usual
@OptimusPrime Probably they were the final user to approve one of your suggested edits.

Q: What does "user was removed" mean and why did my reputation change because of it?

aef Message appearing when a user was removed. It seems I lost 1765 reputation points on Stack Overflow yesterday. The reason given in my history is "removed", with the description of "User was removed (learn more)". I don't understand what that means. What caused this? Return to FAQ index

I corssed the priv 1+ years ago. afaik, reps won't change after 60 days
@OptimusPrime Only if they have +3 score, which is impossible for suggested edits, and it applies to posts, not users. Likely it's either a tag wiki suggested edit or an old suggested edit from the time you didn't have editing privileges.

@Tinkeringbell RE your comment: the other question that caused them to gain more rep was one about the mobile app. The mobile app is not at all clear about which site you're posting the question on once you navigate to the "ask question" view. It's likely that the user posted on the wrong site.
@andmyself -8
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog The 'I'm not sure what brought you here' is a pleasantry, and doesn't expect an answer.
@rene You were the original author of that comment. I don't like one thing about it: it merely states that "your question will not be answered on this specific site", but with no explanation why or what site they're on.
It links to the help center. I would think that gives enough guidance?
"Your question is definitely off-topic for Meta" insinuates to a small proportion of users that there are a certain few users who would violate site rules and post an answer anyway (which happens very frequently on SO). My wording, "unfortunately, we have to mark this question as 'off-topic' for this site" doesn't imply that.
@rene The vast majority of people aren't gonna click on a link.
They clicked at least at one link, and an ask question button
14:52
@rene Did you already VTC this question? If not, can you dupehammer it as a dupe of the question deletion FAQ?
I'd dupe-vote as "cannot delete post on mobile app" instead if the main concern is with mobile app...
@andmyself Dupe list can be edited afterwards.
@andmyself do you have a link handy?
thanks
14:55
yay, I just tried casting 'lost soul' on that question since the rep is 1. Nothing happened! :D
@andmyself That said, I edited in the fact that posts can't be deleted on the app into the FAQ.
meta.stackexchange.com/q/318457/369802 Is looking more and more ridiculous :/
I know generally dupes aren't deleted, but perhaps an exception is in order for that one now?
@Tinkeringbell ohh good. NSFW roaming free is bad!
I move to delete it
14:58
@ShadowWizard Hey, there's loads of people that are NSFW, they should be allowed to roam free! :P
@Tinkeringbell Closing is a necessary prerequisite to voting to delete, and the dupehammer expedites it.
