@Mithrandir Australians are the smartest: G'Day is appropriate any time...
Would anyone complain if I deleted the [zalgo] tag on MSO? It just seems completely unnecessary.
@StephenLeppik I'd get consensus first. Note that questions about the meta site can be asked on the site itself, using the tag .
It just has 3 questions though, mostly related to that one answer about parsing HTML with regex.

hmm
Looks like weekend is extended...
06:29
Morning :)
Sadly, no extended weekend for me :(
Well, I'm currently sitting at my office cubicle now...
Yep, just about to set up the laptop here too
Morning

I had planned to get into my car right now to drive to work ....
Instead I answered a SEDE question
priorities
I still have to have breakfast ... and coffee
I managed breakfast already. Didn't have any coffee yet. Don't have to drive, as I'm working from home. But I'm stuck on Twitter right now ;)
@Feeds shaped like? Try what it contains.... tons of weird chemical stuff...
@rene huh? Aren't you always ride the train?
You always say you're in a train headed to some client... :)
@Tinkeringbell I can't have breakfast without coffee. Think that for like 20 years now, every single day I had breakfast, it had coffee as well.
Coffee is integral part of breakfast! :D
woke up late, no breakfast or drink before going to work
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Breakfast goes with orange juice!
@Magisch I can't really start the day without coffee...
07:07
Besides that, the only 'coffee' I like are lattes. The rest is still too bitter :)
@Tinkeringbell that too, in restaurants usually. ;)
The only form of caffeine I drink is boba fruit tea.
@StephenLeppik still, not trivial to remove, better ask on MSO first.
@Tinkeringbell Which one do you normally have? Do you squeeze your own?
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog why? Don't like coffee, or health related?
07:09
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I don't like it.
Well, by now I need it... without it, tired and aching head.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Nope, ready made from a carton.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It's called an addiction ;)
@Tinkeringbell actual orange juice, or just orange flavored?
The only way I like coffee is with milk and sugar, and that defeats the purpose of it being a calorie free drink. Hence, tea
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard actual juice. the orange flavored stuff is gross
07:10
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard My French teacher in high school used to keep drinking coffee in class.
I don't know how to drink coffee properly....
Here squeezed juice costs a lot, about 10 NIS ($3) for liter.
@Somewhat properly?? You just drink it. :)
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's actually very cheap by U.S. standards
There's no art in this.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It's about the same here. You can go to most supermarkets and they'll have one of those machines, where you can fill a bottle of juice for €2,99 or something ;)
07:11
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog really?? Good to know...
@Tinkeringbell oh, never saw or heard of such machine, here it's sold in bottles.
@Tinkeringbell Never seen that here.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Same here.
I mean, should a cup of coffee be finished within 10 minutes, or faster/slower...
@Tinkeringbell Interesting. At home I'd just buy the oranges and squeeze them using a mini home-size machine.
07:13
@Tinkeringbell bad image but yeah, I can see what you mean. Awesome idea, here only kiosks and restaurants have those machines.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Couldn't find one that looked better from a supermarket ;)
And a cup of such fresh orange juice costs around $6.
But yeah, restaurants and some smaller food shops have those too
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's expensive
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog yup that is
07:14
I don't even like orange juice tbh
because I'm a slow drinker, and I also think I have a slow coffee metabolism. Thus, drinking coffee will certainly annoy my night sleep...
I don't like juices in general
But some lemon juice to put into the tea is nice
I juice my own apples. It's easy, you just pluck the stem off and stick the whole thing into a centrifugal vegetable juicer.
@Somewhat there's no "should".... each and his/her own way of drinking. Sometimes I finish cup of coffee in less than a minute, sometimes in half an hour. ;)
07:16
@Magisch I really like grape juice, and orange juice. I don't care much for the rest ;)
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I guess that explains... I finish cup of coffee in 5 hours...
@Tinkeringbell Don't care much for grape. Orange and apple are my favorite.
@Somewhat that's.... eh... too long. :D
Eewl. Coffee should be hot, I can't imagine how it'll taste after 5 hours!
Iced coffee...
07:18
@Tinkeringbell nah, I also like cold coffee, but even that taste bad after 5 hours....
Well after 5 hours coffee won't be iced either!
Well, usually the pattern would be: I bought flavored coffee in the afternoon -> taking a sip slowly -> feel so sleepy at around 3-4pm -> finish the coffee at 6pm -> can't sleep at night...
The only exception I make for traditional caffeinated beverage, if I'm feeling too tired near the end of a first leg of a connection to and back from India, so that I'm not wearily walking through the transit airport and risking missing my connection
there's also the thing that I don't like caffeine most days
07:21
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard nope, our office is on a public transport challenged location.
Anyone tried boba fruit tea before?
@Somewhat so guess coffee isn't for you..... ;)
@rene oh... too bad!
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard 100% makes sense :/ I drink coffee for the taste, not for the caffeine...
@Somewhat You can have decaf?
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I think I'm the train person you want ;)
07:23
@Tinkeringbell only train? No car?
@Tinkeringbell shop stall, hopefully they can serve it decaf :)
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard no car yet ;) Yes, most of my travels are by train, I sometimes borrow mom and dads car though :)
So you have a license, that's good. :)
@Tinkeringbell What's the most interesting thing that ever happened to you when traveling by train?
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Yep :) I hope to have a car too, somewhere in January next year.
Until then, I'm taking classes to get rid of my fears
07:25
@Tinkeringbell that's a very focused plan... hope it will become true! :D
What car you buy?
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It probably will. I have no idea yet...
Probably one with an automatic transmission. I'm not fond of those, but I guess I'll have to give in on that.
My first car was this model:
Here in the States a lot of people would die for a manual car.
Think it cost around $2000, I paid half, mother paid the other half. I was 20 or so.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Nice!
I can get a company car, so no need to buy my own ;)
07:28
Yeah, better!
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard In a way. On the other hand people keep pushing me to start driving again... even if that means driving automatic transmission :/
@Tinkeringbell what's wrong with automatic? I prefer manual because it feels "faster" and more powerful.
(people being mostly managers)
I think using public transport is fine if you can do it
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard automatic is generally for disabled people here. I know I can drive manual, it's how I got my license. Also, stepping back from manual to automatic feels like I didn't fix anything, just put a band-aid onto it and now we can wait for that to fall off too
07:31
@Tinkeringbell the pointy-haited ones?
@rene A little bit. They're mostly nice, but it would be easier for them to sell an employee that drives than one that has to go by public transport everywhere because she's too much of a chicken to drive.
@Tinkeringbell Are you actually a chicken or just environmentally conscious though?
I could never make it in the consulting business "our employee can't drive because his eyes aren't good enough" doesn't sell :p
looks like a parrot though...
@Magisch Nope, it's panic attacks and me chickening out ... I'd love to be able to go back to driving normally again. I did it for a short while, until I had an accident. I loved the freedom it gave me.
Oh... sorry to hear that...
07:35
@Somewhat It's okay. It wasn't my fault ;)
And I'm slowly getting back to normal
:(
Panic attacks totally suck
@JourneymanGeek It's okay, they can be fixed :) I'd rather have something I can control and fix :)
@Tinkeringbell they can. I used to have bad ones and I still think they suck ;)
@JourneymanGeek It's getting better though :) I only have them now when something entirely unexpected happens while driving XD
07:42
Which is of course a PITA to train away, as you can't really expect unexpected stuff
So we're mostly focusing on damage control now ;)
ah
(I never bothered to learn)
cars here are too expensive, and I can get around ok on public transport
@Tinkeringbell the techie side of me wonders if you could stick someone in a sim throw unexpected stuff at them and see how they react....
public transport is okayish here. But it took me 3,5 hours of train/bus and then another hour walking from/to transport last weekend to get to that party where I could just have had a 1,5 -2 hour drive and been there too
ya
How did that go?
Did anyone get g'kared?
@JourneymanGeek So then you'd have to show me everything unexpected that can happen on a road, and then do that over and over until I am used to it :P
@JourneymanGeek It was ... eventful
He's gone now.
oh
yay I guess?
07:45
@JourneymanGeek I guess ;) We might lose two or three players still who weren't there, didn't see what happened and are still sticking up for him
There's still some drama going on in the group chat/app
ya, usually these things take a while to shake down, even entirely online and in the daylight
Yep. I think it would have gone worse actually if it were just online. ;)
well, it depends.
I think least in places where folks are on the same page it can be quicker ;)
@Tinkeringbell He not respect the boundaries?
Or did you actually kick him?
He was being such an arse that people who online were ... not picking a side ... now definitely took one
@Magisch I may or may not have thrown a punch or two.
Before my princes stepped in.
07:48
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard yep... and then the players decided to just ignore the reply and start a new chain from scratch :P.
( youtube.com/watch?v=7e8OBQ-tHsY roughly what I hope happened)
@Derpy ohh... there's no chain for long time now. :)
@Tinkeringbell huh? TL;DR? What chat?
Looks like I missed lots of drama? :(
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I'll get you one, but I have to go wave at my parents first ;) They're going out this week :P
Nah, I don't need to have the drama itself, just hear about it. :D
@Tinkeringbell Idk, I imagine it must have been bad to get physical
08:01
lame joke of the day 101.
@Magisch It was.
Why we have a balpha but we don't yet have a cbeta?
good idea...
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard So, basically, most of the background can be read here. We had an alliance meetup last Friday evening where mister problem would be too.
(this should be enough to win the "lamest joke" prize for this month, year and decade)
08:02
Problems were had, boundaries violated and mister removed from the party and the game.
should be 2 days left before I can change my name...
Maybe we should just post a request on meta...
have balpha just drop the "b" prefix and then rename all the staff members using Greek letters
obviously, shog would get the "omega"
@Tinkeringbell thanks, lots to read...
so, whenever shog and balpha came, we could just say "Here cometh forth the Alpha and the Omega" :P
....ok, too much Final Fantasy I guess....
...hmm, I may have just broken my little toe...
@Tinkeringbell fun
08:10
@Mithrandir Oouch!
@Derpy was there Alpha Weapon? I remember only Omega Weapon.
It is an flaw of the evolution that they put so many nerve endings in toes ....
@rene yeah
if it actually is broken it'll be the first time I've ever broken something
remove humans' little toe. It's useless anyway and just cause grief. :D
@God, do you hear me? ^
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard That's a really good one, +1.
08:13
yeah, and treatment is probably limp around for 6 to 8 weeks
status-bydesign
@Somewhat no! Feature request can't be "by design", just approved or declined. ;)
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I haven't seen @Bart yet ... oh wait you called his sock ...
08:14
Well, we did get rid of the tail, so...
Probably having a tail, people would stumble and fall all the time. :D
It would get stuck between elevator doors
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Ironically tails are usually used in main part to keep balance
see cats
@rene Why? Those doors have sensors, which is (IMO) really annoying: Door almost closed, some businessman in a suit (and a backpack) triggers the sensor and we have to start waiting all over again!
08:16
@Mithrandir buh... so we don't need God. Let's just find a way to remove whatever DNA is responsible for the little toe, so that new babies will be born without it. :P
@Magisch by animals who know how to use them....
We have little toe, but no idea what to do with it, or how. :)
It just bumps into things and cause us pain. lol
@Tinkeringbell I think those laser beams or not all around. Just use your IR glasses (or create fog in the elevator) to see them.
@Tinkeringbell ask to add "Close Doors" button.. many elevators have it.
Human with a tail... or wings... my wishful dream...
@Magisch hehe yeah, I saw couple of days ago a baby cat climbing high tree (2 meters high) on a very thin branch. Was sure he's going to fall but waving his small tail, he did it. Then his mother came to take him down. :D
(but probably that's a fantasy that shouldn't leave my closet)
@JourneymanGeek awwwww~~~
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard yanno what they say about people with big feet....
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard It does have one. My annoyance is that not many people use it. And etiquette says that if you have to go the top floor, you hang around in the back of the elevator, not near the button ;)
@JourneymanGeek what they say? (honestly, don't know and too lazy to Google... :))
@Somewhat umm.. you can wear a costume you know.... :P
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard they are forever stubbing their feet
08:23
@JourneymanGeek well, my feet aren't big and yet I do bump my little toe on things...
@JourneymanGeek ... lol
Yanno what they say people with big feet say?
OW!
@Tinkeringbell you can reach out to it, or ask someone near it to push it. No?
(I'm a size 12 so... I count ;) )
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Okay, I'm not that annoyed :P
08:24
@JourneymanGeek size 12?? What's that?
Shoes?
ya, US size
I'm 46, european I guess.
Europe has bigger numbers
Oh wait, it is kind of big. lol
Think @Bart once said he's 50.
I'm 8.5/42 :/
08:25
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard If you had one capable of assisting with balance you'd know how to use it eventually. But for upright walking humans it's probably not much use in balancing, hence why it atrophied eventually for us.
@Magisch yeah, probably.
My feet are of a smaller size, but are wider, so I need to also look at width numbers, not just size.
Yup, 50.
May 9 '17 at 13:11, by Bart
I'm 50 (or 15 US)
@JourneymanGeek Sounds about right :)
08:27
Hey, I just checked my shoes and the label says "US 8.5 | Euro 42" :/
So @Bart have the biggest feet here, right? :P
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I didn't know it was a contest :P
@Somewhat hehe, well, it's not really small, I'd say average.
@Tinkeringbell for boys, anything is a contest. Heck... see the badge hunting over in SO.... :D
size 8's the smallest the army has in stock lol
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard but Geek says US 12/Euro 42...
08:28
(I know this since my actual shoes took up too much space so I bought the smallest pair of shoes they had for issue)
So Euro 42 is US 8.5-12 :O
@Somewhat IDK, I googled it
@Somewhat Nah, that isn't right.
8,5 US is 39 EURO
@Somewhat that... doesn't make much sense.
I guess Euro 42 is the answer to all the US shoe sizes and universes
2
Too lazy to take off my shoe to check the actual size now... maybe when I'll go to next toilet break. :P
It looks like men's sizes are different from women's
08:30
yup
So I'm sorry to say that if you're wearing size 12's for a 42 Euro size, you're wearing high heels :P
And Bart was exaggerating: A size 15 is only a 48 in Europe, not a 50
08:33
@Tinkeringbell DON'T JUDGE ME...
(I don't but still!)
🤔
@JourneymanGeek Oh... we don't judge, we've seen worse ;)
I support anyone's right to wear uncomfortable, impractical footwear if they want.
@Tinkeringbell impossible! @Bart never lie! :D
@Tinkeringbell It's not uncommon for guys here in Texas to wear cowboy boots with moderate heels
08:34
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog that sound you hear was the joke going over your head ;)
@JourneymanGeek I want all high heels to be banned, as a healthcare risk :P
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard Maybe not to you ;)
@Tinkeringbell I support that too ._.
@Tinkeringbell I've seen at least one shoe store with a banner saying "high heels are not recommended"
@JourneymanGeek army shoes? I had to wear them for 28 days straight 24/7 during a mini-war I took part in. No idea how my feet didn't rot away.....
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard those full leather ones?
We swapped those for semi-gortex ones that are actually pretty comfy
08:35
@JourneymanGeek those:
SO THOSE WERE YOUR FAULT!
One good thing, they do protect your small toe! :D
Ya, they used to issue those in the old days.
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard !!/blame
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard I don't care what they say, but those look just as uncomfortable as high heels
08:36
@Tinkeringbell they are
in different ways
@Tinkeringbell sure, he's afraid of me.... :D
Hell is having a boot full of water
@Tinkeringbell I suspect more. Can't tell since never tried heels... (high or low)
different sorts of uncomfortable I suspect too!
Leg is just.... sore. It feels... crowded inside the shoe, even though the size fits.
08:39
Still... probably... better than ballerinas' feet...
Sounds like high heels then ;) A pain in the ass when it's rainy, and sore legs and feet :P
Its just a little too wrm to be comfortable.
unless it rains
@Somewhat Oh that gets ugly!
water goes in, it dosen't quite get out
Ah, my high heels are definitely always giving me cold feet
08:40
I'd never ever ever wear heels
@Tinkeringbell Yeah, I was surprised seeing images of that...
that looks like the shoe is designed to mess up your feet
I wore heels once... for science...
@Magisch pretty sure its basically whatever the americans were using in the vietnam war
(unless we really can blame the israelis)
08:42
And the first response was just like the usual "how could women walk on this..."
@Somewhat good to know, noted. Any other clothes that aren't traditionally worn by men? ;)
ran away
catching @Somewhat before he can escape
@JourneymanGeek hmm? For what? Israel army use lots of very old stuff... saves lots of money, I guess. :)
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard basically the israelis secretly helped set up our army
08:51
@JourneymanGeek ohhh.... that explains a lot! :D
and since the regional countries were anti israeli...
we told them they were mexicans
Actually, those black shoes are for "inferior" forces. The elite soldiers get red shoes which are more comfortable.
09:24
uhh... context?
09:53
> Video unavailable
> This video is not available.
Maybe example for broken YouTube video?
It's country-restricted then... I haven't even opened the video though, knowing it's a music...
@Somewhat The above messages about heels + the meaning of the lyrics to that song
@Somewhat not sure, usually it says it's blocked in my country when it's the case. On this one it just says "Video unavailable", kind of like SE generic 500 error.
Blocked in Africa and the Middle East apparently.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog hmm... but I see different error.
09:57
@ShadowtheWelcomingWizard The country map there shows it's blocked in Israel.
Also blocked in all of Asia except Russia and India.
So... kind of pointless to link here, as many people aren't from USA.
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Blocked in India too.
(though guess you can't know in advance if video is blocked in other countries)
