@Makyen Thank you very much for this incredibly detailed answer. I will keep this in mind, and at least I am sure now that I haven't missed some mystical secret that all web-devs know and I don't.

12:19 AM
@Makyen Btw, in the last hour I was able to

1. Make WebStorm resolve the StackExchange functions by providing the sources in my project
2. Create a run configuration that opens up an SE site and lets me debug (and use the JS console) directly from within WebStorm

I need to see if this all works like I want.

I missed happy hour! say what!?!?!?

@halirutan Cool. Does it provide the userscript APIs? Does it treat the userscript as a userscript, or as a page script? I would suspect that it's treating the userscript as a page script, which will work for a reasonable number of scripts, but for others will result in various problems.

@Makyen Honestly, I have no idea. I loaded the "unpacked extension" into Chrome which points to my dev-directory. You need a special Chrome extension from Jetbrains so that WebStorm can debug Chrome. Then you can simply make changes and run it from WebStorm and then you can test or debug everything.
The most helpful thing for my noob self is however, that I have all functions at hand
About the userscript API's, I believe the answer is yes. I simply followed this answer on SO.
OK, I really need some sleep now. Thanks again.

@halirutan What you found is the Chrome extension definitions. While that should permit you to get an environment which should allow you debug Chrome extensions (to some extent), I'm unsure how well it mimics the userscript environment, but it may be sufficient for a reasonable amount of work, depending on what you're wanting to do. Frankly, I'm not sure. The last I looked at WebStorm's support of the Chrome extension environment, it wasn't that great. However, that was quite some time ago now.

Think I should start answering on SO again. Quit job as SE 9 months ago and now I can't remember the techniques I've used to write code and also I am unable to understand codes I've written 1 or 2 years ago.

Just in time to say good morning and good bye! @ShadowWizard

lol good morning and good bye! @Fabby

Btw that was the dog I talked about in a question in Pets @YvetteColomb . He lost his eyesight and hearing ability 3-4 years ago and he found us by smelling.

@OptimusPrime so sorry to hear. It's a horrible loss.

Why is this being downvoted?

Q: Show me a message if a comment I'm editing gets deleted

Sonic the Inclusive HedgehogWhen I'm editing a comment, if the comment gets deleted in the meantime, I'm not notified in any way. This poses a problem because if I try to submit my edit, my edited comment is irretrievably deleted, and I have to totally recompose my comment. This gets quite irritating. Here on Meta, when vo...

@Shog9 How hard is it technically to implement?

6:08 PM
Easy things still take an hour of dev time ...

@rene So you think that most of the downvoters downvoted because they thought it would take a while to develop, not because they disagree with the feature idea itself?

@OptimusPrime condolences :(

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I can only tell why I down voted, which is in my comment. But I don't see how that feature is useful for lots of people. It is the corner case of a corner case. You better vote for the FR that asks to not delete the dup comments in the first place, which exists as well IIRC.

@rene Um, if you make an edit to a dupe comment, it's no longer deleted upon closure.
If you want to test, RC flag a post where you have the right Chaos Emerald using an alternate account. Edit the resulting comment with said alternate account. Then, use Chaos Control on the question with your main account. The comment will not be deleted.

6:24 PM
Yes, I get what you're trying to do. Of all duplicate voters I bet a handful will do what you do and then only in few of those cases you get hit by the instant delete. The SE team doesn't build features for you (or 5 of you's)

TBH I've been hit by this bug too many times, to the point where it was getting extremely annoying. Fundamentally, you shouldn't submit a comment edit into the void.
The "side question" exists so that if it's the case, I can simply ask a mod to undelete my comment.
@OptimusPrime Add my condolences too

Well, that qute literally affects any person trying to edit a comment during a 5 minute period or so?

ya, its a bit of a limited edge case

Or a mod editing such a comment, but it's closed by the community or another mod (but that's a rarer case)
@JourneymanGeek I've ended up hitting it too many times
@SomewhatMemorableName This answers your previous question

6:55 PM
as a mod, I rarely edit comments from others

@JourneymanGeek hence why I said it's a "rarer case"
The more common case for hitting this is editing your own comment.

7:08 PM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I bet at least 1 or 2 are due to your first comment. People don't like such comments, as they're not needed. If someone wants, they'll explain. If not, they won't.
And nudging people in one direction, sometimes makes them go the other direction.
(Not me... but I've been around long enough to realize such things.)

@ShadowWizard At least I'm not saying, "WHY DID U DOWNVOTE THIS?!?!?!"

Yeah that would give at least extra 10 downvotes, including from me. :)
As for others, guess it's due to it being too minor and rare.
So it would be wasting developers time on something that will serve very few people in very rare cases.

At least I didn't also attract downvotes from @JourneymanGeek by not mentioning Chaos Emeralds

Very few comments (valid comments, not spam, rude, or offensive) are deleted within 5 minutes.
If you mean this only for the "possible duplicate" auto comments, maybe post a different request, to not auto delete the comment if the closure happened within 5 minutes since the flag/vote has been cast.
Should be more simple to implement, and you might get better score.

@ShadowWizard Disagree, the comment should be deleted if I don't edit.
In that case, it becomes redundant.

7:15 PM
In those rare cases when it happens, the flagger can just delete it manually.

I'd much rather prefer a prompt when a comment gets deleted, because there are other cases when a comment can get deleted.

Like I said, too rare to be worth doing it.

8:00 PM
@ShadowWizard Recently, I've started deleting my own comments after I've received a reply to them...
so I'm one of those crazy rare cases...

Nope, you're a SE model citizen :)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Upvoted as I'm now going to edit the automatic comments more often because now I know they will be deleted automatically!
@SomewhatMemorableName a bad role model is still a role model!
I need to go to sleep!
Shower and film in bed!
G'night all (and Journeyman thrice already) ;-)

Eh, we don't need so many comments, that's why it's encouraged to self-delete obsolete comments.
And I hate "possible duplicate of" comments left-over if the question is already closed...

Not when there are Three duplicate possibilities because of the low quality of the question...
Anyway!
Ciao!!!

Ciao :)
(moreover, if it's a low quality question, I'd like to get rid of it instead of littering the site...)

8:52 PM
I only found 5 meta sites that have the tag. Do the other meta's declare them off-topic and redirect to MSE ? Something else? I'm asking because of my rambling here.

well practically if you're on a site...

@rene I'm not sure I've noticed them other than "this question was closed as off topic -why and if I can't ask here, where can I ask it?" In which case it's not really quite a site recommendation since it's half asking why the question was closed, so it's appropriate on site.

yeah, most go with scope like questions. I noticed that on MSO as well

I saw your answer. Sounds good to me.

Okay, thanks

9:44 PM
@Fabby no, @Sonic here was talking about comments deleted by others while being edited, so not same case.
@Fabby filming yourself in bed?? Kinky! :D

10:15 PM
@ShadowWizard He still gets to keep the upvote because I learned something...
@ShadowWizard :D Good idea! Can I post videos here? >:-)
