But then again, I suspect that tech companies are against the immigration ban at least acting partially from self interest (hint. cheap 'talent'), but mostly because humanitarian reasons.

That Meta SO post is sure something. Disappointed in the number of Taverners who VTC, but comforted by the order-of-magnitude difference in up/downvotes.

Rob
Nothing wrong with voting to close, really. Though, it's pointless as shown

The discussion is more telling. Clinging to rules when it has been repeatedly demonstrated your opponent ignores them is self-defeating.

I see cats. This makes me feel better.

@jpmc26 What can i do in this situation?

@SurajJain I'd find a different question than that one to edit.

5:07 AM
@jpmc26 i AM TRYING SO HARD to make it up , i want answers and want to learn , nobod even left in comment what is srong with question , they just downvote

Yo

@jpmc26 What do you mean ? sorry i am not understaning

@SurajJain Wait, so, what question were you talking about again?

3
A: Confused about pointer dereferencing

Suraj JainIf you have something like , int x = 1234 ; int *p = &x; If You Dereference Pointer p then it will correctly read integer bytes. Because You declared it to be pointer to int . It will know how many bytes to read by sizeof() operator. Generally size of int is 4 bytes (for 32/64-bit platforms) ...

Someone else already posted a better answer than yours. So if you need to edit to lift a ban, look at another question.

5:08 AM
@jpmc26 If you want cats, the Tavern always delivers.
@SurajJain And what's the issue there? You got an edit ban?
Sorry if you told me in the other room and I forgot. Lots of noise there.

@JasonC I cannot ask any more question
because that question got downvoted
that is the issue
@JasonC Someone saw downvote they downvoted it agian

Ah ok, so let's see...

even though the post has been so many times proofread , i have asked many to look at that , and edited it whatever i found i could , but people wont come back , i am tired now , cannot ask anymore
i have seen everything
it would take 6 months

It's a 6 month ban?

if my question does not get upvote
yes
i mean , it is 5 months

5:10 AM
question bans are generally not the result of a single question, from what I understand.

if my question get upvote , then it would be lifted , becuase my positive contribution would get more weight then
2 questions are there , this one is the main
other one got upvoted as time passed , and it is not the problem
this one is the main as i have done everythng to keep it clean
and it was a reasonable question

@SurajJain In your question, in your test program, you say the actual output was -46 1234. What was your expected output?
Or did you not know what to expect when you first ran it?

5:17 AM
@JasonC I was trying to see what comes , i had no expectation , i was just expecting that it i am pointing char so maybe it will read first byte , i was just doing it out of curiosity , should i add that line
@JasonC I expermient a lot with C , so that i learn , so i do not understand what was coming , i did not knew endianness then
@JasonC Then i asked the question
@JasonC So that was the story , after a while i fugered it out , and add my answer to it.
@JasonC I learned a lot in doing all these , as i would go on askeing everyone to just read my answer and tell me if something is wrong , so that i could edit it and correct it , i do not want to write incorrect answer.
@JasonC It was my first answer.

@SurajJain Have you given the other answer that overtook yours a read?

@jpmc26 It is same , just printf part was more and it is wrong that printf part , that using %d to print char is wrong , no it is correct , i had discussion for it with chux and ouaf , other then that it is same , just a little better presentation , i asked john bode , and also , he got som many downvotes quickly , maybe because he has high reputation , i had do wait so long to get it
@jpmc26 Problem is not about answer , it is about question , it got downvoted unncecesarially serial downvotes

well, let me put it this way, his answer starts off by pointing out that you invoke "Undefined behavior." That's a big deal in C, since when you invoke undefined behavior, the compile can do anything, including make demons fly out of your nose.
But you don't reference that fact at all.

5:25 AM
I think the primary issue with that question, really, was it's basicness. It's sort of something that you're expected to have found out on your own, like it or not. There are likely other questions that deal with the same topic. I think it's a fine question but I'm sure that's where the dvs were coming from.
It's tough when new users come in with new questions, vs. long time users who have seen the question a bunch of times, or who are conditioned to disregard certain types of questions.
I usually use an analogy to trying to talk your way out of a speeding ticket. To you, you're reasonable. To the cop, he's heard it all before.

@jpmc26 You have downvoted instead.?

@jpmc26 What he pointed out was using %d to print char
@jpmc26 And i have asked that with ouah 100l+ rep , and chux . 50k +rep that that is not undefined
refered to standard
can even show you where it is written

@SurajJain I don't know C, so I didn't vote either way on any post. =)

and he also said i have not explicitly cast pointer , i have changed that now , more than one month ago ,...
@jpmc26 Someone downvoted here , jason uvoted , but some great person here downvoted ,,.....
@jpmc26 Oh. oK , Thanks for listening by the way . Have a nice day

@SurajJain It's not necessarily good to change a question after answers have been posted and upvoted.
My advice was find a different question to edit.

Actually , I have edited it to remove all the areas where one migh see i made a bad point
@jpmc26 It is this one only .. see jason upvoted it , now someone downvoted it .. jason hmself said it is good question , he knows C
i need to get this question right
otherwise my ban would not be lifted

I dunno, then. =/ That question is pretty much a lost cause imo.

Q: Dereferencing this pointer gives me -46, but I am not sure why

Suraj JainWhile trying to teach myself about pointers, I wrote the following test program: #include <stdio.h> int main() { int y = 1234; char *p = (char *)&y; int *j = &y; printf("%d " , *p); printf("%d" , *j); } I am slightly confused about the output. What I'm seeing is:...

@Telkitty What should i do then ?

user202362
ask a CM to dissociate it from your account, and one says yes, delete it so it can be dissociated

user202362
also don't print %d when it's pointed to a char

@Telkitty Thanks for the upvote on question , i recieved two , dont know who the other is ... i will do so

@SurajJain Consider fixing some of your other downvoted questions as well as posting some good answers

7:17 AM
@meagar I posted this answer stackoverflow.com/questions/6749569/…
@meagar And i really dont know what is wrong in it , i pointed to standard and that is the best thing one can do , refer to the best

Well, you posted a new answer to a 5 year old question which already had an accepted answer, and your answer doesn't really contain any new information
Don't do that. Post original answers to new questions.

7:55 AM
@meager But why does it got downvoted , i mean there is not anything wrong in that answer as such . i referred the standard

@SurajJain Downvoting has the purpose of communicating that "this answer is not useful" (it's on the tooltip), it doesn't necessarily reflect correctness.

@4castle accepted answer was in june and other answer posted was on december which got upvotes same answer

@SurajJain If someone else has already posted the same answer, then your answer wouldn't be useful

@4castle Same answer as the already selected asnwer , i am talking that that question got answer on jun accepted someone posted asnwer on nov same answer , upvoted , i posted the answer , reddered to correct documentation , everyone reffered to w3school which you know is not accepted in html , i refereed to mdn and even quoted

Where was Spolsky when Israel built a wall to keep Palestinians out, or when Israel refused to take in refugees. Or when Obama dropped 100,000 bombs in 7 muslim countries, or when Obama's administration defined "countries of concern" which is the direct basis (and the only "banned" ones) for suspended visas - temporarily. Why not mention that Saudi Arabia has agreed to create secure zones for the refugees instead, and the plenty exceptions (read the EO!). This is the second time SO is abused for political left views & agenda, and is turning into a political tool. This belongs on a blog IMO. — K3N 3 hours ago
