The kite experiment was a scientific experiment which was proposed and may have been conducted by Benjamin Franklin with the assistance of his son William Franklin. The experiment's purpose was to uncover the unknown facts about the nature of lightning and electricity. == Background == In 1750, the electrical nature of lightning was the subject of public discussion in France, with a dissertation of Denis Barbaret receiving a prize in Bordeaux; Barbaret proposed a cause in line with the triboelectric effect. The physicist Jacques de Romas also wrote a memoir that year with similar ideas. Franklin...

Lightning is a proprietary computer bus and power connector created by Apple Inc. Introduced on September 12, 2012 (2012-09-12), to replace its predecessor, the 30-pin dock connector, the Lightning connector is used to connect Apple mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPods to host computers, external monitors, cameras, USB battery chargers, and other peripherals. Using 8 pins instead of 30, Lightning is significantly more compact than the 30-pin dock connector and can be inserted with either side facing up. However, unless used with an adapter, it is incompatible with cables and peripherals...

Smokey may actually be lowering that percentage. Blatant spam gets instantly nuked by community, so the spam flags that moderators get (and only those are counted in 76%) are something that doesn't have that much community consensus.

@Glorfindel I rejected this but maybe I miss something?
Yeah, please reject those. I made a mistake.

1 hour later…
12:04
@Derpy what's strange about that?
@Bart that a ps4 is about 299$ now, and the Switch doesn't once again seems likely to have the power to compete
It doesn't seem to be attempting to compete with the PS4/XBox One. And 350$ (if that's the actual price) isn't that bad of an entry.
trad: it once again seems a system based on a gimmick. And the gimmick doesn't seem strong enough to sell. I fear it will end up like the WiiU
Time will tell
dead console with no third party support.
12:23
@Derpy WiiiUUUU that is the sound it makes if you throw the console out of the window from the 30th floor?
It is certainly a dead console when it reached earth

@bluefeet I'd appreciate some input from the CMs here, seems to be a topic with a variety of opinions, even with a previous Meta discussion that seemingly had concensus. So I don't think that us users will be able to come to an agreement.
13:35
@Stijn, There are a couple related questions/dupe targets here, and here (which is itself a dupe of here )
@Andy thanks, I'll take a look
@rene it even looked good when it launched. Had some potential with the pad touch screen (like a remake of the Guru Guru snes games, or some Etrian Odyssey ports) but they didn't manage to make use of it other than for some menu
console was pretty rapidly forgotten by third parties and then died out.
After the first year, I can count the interesting games on a single hand.
@Stijn, There appears to be an even better duplicate linked on your post now.
@Andy yeah I saw, although I'm not sure if it's the best duplicate target. Your first link is more appropriate I think. But a recurring theme is that the content license allows us to do this.
13:53
@Stijn I'll try to take a look later
@bluefeet thanks!
14:12
@Derpy "system based on a gimmick" - and what's wrong with that? :)
@ShadowWizard nothing. If you use it.
I am an happy owner of a Wii and a DS. I am not so happy with the WiiU because even Nintendo seemed to forgot the thing had two screens - one being a TOUCH screen.
@Derpy iPhone was a gimmick in its early days...
refer to the previous message
problem isn't the gimmick. It is the fact that even the ones that made the gimmick didn't put it to use.
It pretty sad that the game that seemed to make the most use of the pad was... ZombiU
now I wonder what they have in mind with the Switch. As now I can only see two outcomes.
Either the system is powerful enough that it will drain the battery like there was no tomorrow, and that means that the whole "hybrid home/portable" system will fail...
Well, don't care for gimmicks. Started playing FFXV yesterday and it look very promising. :D
oops lol
..... not much wonder since many consider that one the best FF, above even FFVII "I was planed to be Zack but then Tifa"
14:22
@Derpy well, graphics so far is supreme. Didn't have chance for a real battle yet. Story look very solid too. And humor is everywhere. :)
@ShadowWizard the days Final Fantasy was fantasy but also had humor. Then they had to appeal the western market....
@Derpy meanwhile: "PS4 sells through 6.2 million units during 2016 holiday season, worldwide sales top 53.4 million"
I don't understand this PS4 hubub
@Stijn PS4 is good. And rather cheap. Heck, I bought it instead of a PC for gaming.
It's an overpriced underspecced and locked down gaming pc in a ugly case and with no mouse/keyboard support
14:27
It costs 1/3 as a computer with similar graphics support.
I bought it because MS found it a good idea to delay launch of Xbone for over a year here.
Not sure where you're buying your parts from, but between all the parts sales, you can have a better computer for half of what a ps4 is
though to be honest, most of the time it's used for Netflix/plex and FIFA with friends
@Magisch not here... decent gaming PC will cost at least $2000 while PS4 costs around $800
The graphic card for PC alone costs around $500
Already had that discussion on the bridge, where I was "kindly" introduced to the "pc master race" vision.
not that that changed my idea, mind you...
14:30
@Derpy TL;DR?
@Derpy has anything ever changed your ideas about something? ;) (in chat)
@ShadowWizard the words "pc master race" not enough of a clue? :)
I built my pc a year back for 500 euros and it can run way more then any ps4
I got most of the parts from clearance or when they came back repaired, but it's some good stuff
@Magisch good for you... either you live in a place where it's cheap, or you found a way to buy it cheap somehow. :)
@ShadowWizard the sentiment is that PCs are better in every way, compared to consoles
14:32
@Stijn you a gamer? Only 106 points on arqade.... :D
@ShadowWizard Parts that come back from repair are usually marked down 50-90% but work exactly the same
and come with the same guarantees
@Stijn when their hardware match, of course
the problem is that it does that... after you lost too much time in configuring the game, updating the driver, changing the card that you found out was incompatible only after buying the game and noticing the hidden list in the patch release note and so on.... I have little time, I prefer to just pop in the disk and play.
@ShadowWizard not that much since I finished school. Used to play a shitload of WoW (more than 1 year in-game time). These days I play Overwatch a bit, and the occasional game.
@Magisch oh.... here we have people selling their used computers, which is cheap. But risky.
14:33
If you don't buy the BS pre-built stuff like alienware or apple then you can get a GOOD pc for very cheap and it will outlast any console you buy, run better, run more flexibly and it's not locked down like consoles are
@Derpy That's largely a myth
@Stijn so no WoW anymore?
>Driver updates these days are automatic, building a pc from parts is little more then plug & play, installing all drivers you'll ever need (self updating) takes like 2 hours in total
and outside of that games usually just work
Someone who was active in the Den is a very serious WoW player.
Nah, nearly all of the people I used to play with have quit. I still buy expansions to do the quest lines, then quit again.
You have more issues with the PS4 sysupdates and the PSStore updates
I play wow
Serious ish
14:35
what level?
let's see...
@Magisch yep, a myth I found out to be pretty true on my skin. Thanks again NVidia for the GeForce SLI feature, a feature that didn't work OOTB on any of the game I had. Including Shadow of Chernobyl. THE ONE GAME THAT WAS BUNDLED WITH THE CARD.
@ShadowWizard I got 7/7 HC EN, 3/7 Mythic EN, 3/3 HC TOV down atm
Maining a healing shaman
@Derpy I'm running a 970 card and I've been able to play every game I ever got since the PC OOTB without any hassle
You get the hassle at the ridiculous top end since you're dealing with mostly new tech
@Magisch what can I say... lucky for you. Oblivion didn't like the SLI thing. Even before receiving a 4gb "Unique Landscape" OMOD applied on it.
SLI isn't necessary though
It's proprietary NVidia technology that is mostly unsupported in games
Run 1 decent card and you'll be fine
> Including Shadow of Chernobyl. THE ONE GAME THAT WAS BUNDLED WITH THE CARD.
^ read this again, please. :P
14:41
Well
Blame WB for that
Shadow of Mordor was a great game though
(Graphical issues notwithstanding)
@Magisch I'm running a GTX 1070 currently and it delivers great performance even with an ultrawide monitor, SLI indeed not really required these days.
@Magisch yep, the nemesis system was a great idea. They could really reuse that in some other game.
I'm running a 970 and I've been able to run every game I want to play at stable 60 fps
And that card cost me 40 euros coming off the backshelf from a repair shop
didn't know GPU repair is a thing
I thought they just trashed broken cards
@Magisch found something, actually 2 serious WoW players, though only one was really active in Den. :)

in The Bridge on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, Feb 26 '16 at 15:53, by Derpy
One friend of mine just asked for some suggestion for a quick flash game to play while he has to wait for a delivery. He never actually reads in-game text or explanations, so I sent him to play... Tower of Heavens....
I wonder if emoji's work here... 😊️

@Derpy of course, chat messages are forever.... ;)
@Stijn sure! ♥

oh, and btw, @Magisch - don't blame me if the card burns while you try to play that at 60fps on max detail.

(even as part of a card ;))
@ShadowWizard as I said, I am simply reporting the card as it was.

no judging there, and to be hones the unglued set had far more questionable content that they could be better to avoid. Pretty bad humor, even for more "Den aligned" standards than mine.
that said, not even I am silly enough to censor Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" if I have to post a picture of it for reference on a chat board.
@Derpy heh, reminds me of Exploding Kittens game. lol
Played it only twice with friends, but it was fun. :D
@ShadowWizard thanks Shadow. Due to this you reminded me of the existence of cards against humanity, which was already bad enough. Then I also remembered that the producers of that game also did the "dig a hole for no reason" kickstarter last black friday that collected something like 100k $
@Derpy well, what's sells your boat.... ;-)
(in the sellers' persprctive)
@ShadowWizard actually, they did the kickstarter just to show that people throw away money for no reason.
aka business is just business - if people are stupid enough to pay for stupid things, it's only their own fault. :)
@Derpy oh, that's a known fact. :)

Hey @bluefeet
Is it true that the blue feeted bird in your profile picture is called a "boobie"?
user315433
A booby is a seabird in the genus Sula, part of the Sulidae family. Boobies are closely related to the gannets (Morus), which were formerly included in Sula. == Description == Boobies hunt fish by diving from a height into the sea and pursuing their prey underwater. Facial air sacs under their skin cushion the impact with the water. Boobies are colonial breeders on islands and coasts. They normally lay one or more chalky-blue eggs on the ground or sometimes in a tree nest. === Name === Their name was possibly based on the Spanish slang term bobo, meaning "stupid", as these tame birds had a habit...
Thats a ridiculous name for a bird :D
@Magisch yes, a blue footed one
17:21
Let me introduce you to tits then @Magisch ...
The tits, chickadees, and titmice constitute the Paridae, a large family of small passerine birds which occur mainly in the Northern Hemisphere and Africa. Most were formerly classified in the genus Parus. While commonly referred to as "tits" throughout much of the English-speaking world, these birds are called either "chickadees" (onomatopoeic, derived from their distinctive "chick-a dee dee dee" alarm call) or "titmice" in North America. The name titmouse is recorded from the 14th century, composed of the Old English name for the bird, mase (Proto-Germanic *maison, German Meise), and tit, denoting...

@bluefeet My apologies...I'm not familiar with meta. Where can I see what hats have been used in the past? I just wanted to take a look before making another new hat suggestion :)
@steelersquirrel my comment was actually full of sarcasm, we tend to recycle hat triggers with minor adjustments. If you look at the link in my comment, you'll see that this years hat Lifesaver is pretty much identical to one from last year. You asking for something used from previous years is totally fine. :)
I believe we had a hat a few years ago to steal a checkmark, so it's a good suggestion
@bluefeet Oh! Hahaha! Sorry ;)
@bluefeet Cool! Thanks :)
@steelersquirrel no worries, I like the suggestion just not sure we could use the steelers logo :)
