good day my fellow 'kings'

Just curious, what became of this? Did the FAQ get released? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/272956/…
I'm having trouble figuring out what happened March 1st... if anything.
01:14
Nothing has changed as of yet. I'm not sure if a follow up was ever posted.
@samthebrand Any updates on the detailed FAQ that is supposed to come on March 1? — edwinksl Jun 12 at 4:56

I don't understand our translators sometimes.
Compare:
With:
See what I mean?
Plus the Portuguese one still has NAA.
The Portuguese just has "spam" whereas in a remarkable moment for truth in advertising the Spanish has "undesirable content". Well, or "undesired", you know.
I’m thinking that the Portuguese translators got an older version of the SO flags than the Spanish translators got. The NAA isn't the only clue to that there.
Not totally surprising, given the history.
But you cannot even say "spam" in Portuguese (or Spanish). Liquid s's are forbidden, which is why you have "España" for "Spain", etc.
Es esepamo. Todo es esepamo. jajaja
By liquid s, I mean one hanging out there all nekkid in front the p.
I'm going to tell your parents you're still awake.
@tchrist Are there enough vowels yet?
correo basura = rubbish/garbage mail

Tisn't.
Tis now 22:27.

That's how it would come out, with the final -n further back than in English.
That's why you have estof signs.
Because they can't say "st-" either. Or for that matter end a word in "-p". It's like Japanese. Their mouths only go so many ways, and those aren't they.
soo too puh
Mind you, I know plenty of native speakers of Portuguese or Spanish who speak excellent, even perfect, English. I'm talking about monoglots.
@bjb568 Japanese like to add the -u.
Spanish turns the stop into a fricative. You'll get an -f or what you would spell -th, but they would spell -z.
Chinese do something like uh.
02:32
Notice the first and last words.
Madriz. Juventuz.
They're spelling them the way they say them, as a sort of cultural joke.
Those should of course be -d but the madrileños say those words in a way that to you sounds like the consonant end of English both.
Huh.
Well, an intervocalic -d- is always pronounced like the middle of English rather everywhere. And there is no minimal pair between a final stop and a final fricative, so it doesn’t matter what they say at the end. Only at the start of a word (well, utterance) or after a consonant like -n- or -l- is the d a stop and even then it’s dental not alveolar.
When there is no minimal pair, which allophone a person makes does not matter. This is true in all languages. It's just that the minimal pairs vary.
Ok, I've thot about linguistically stuff enough today. That's maxed out my quota. Kitten brain will explode if more input is added.
Do you really rhyme thot and cot?
They seem a bit different.
02:45
Are you a cot–caught merger? Are those said identically for you?
that cat is caught on the cot
I’m not a merger because I’m not really from the Far West.
The Great Lakes area and the East aren't mergers, mostly. Southern California is, but the Bay Area isn't.
The t is pronounced later on cot than caught or thot.
I would think you round your lips on caught, thought, dog, all.
Cloth.
Don ≠ Dawn
There are some people in Ohio who are starting to merge cot and caught. It’s a known phenomenon.
Out here, it seems to be hill and heel
02:53
The Texans are gaining on us.
> The fill–feel merger is a conditioned merger of the vowels /ɪ/ and /iː/ before /l/ that occurs in some dialects of American English. The heaviest concentration of the merger is found in, but not necessarily confined to Southern American English: in North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, northern Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana (but not New Orleans), and west-central Texas (Labov, Ash, and Boberg 2006: 69-73).
That's the one you're referring to.
I associate it with the South, or Texas.
They can actually turn those into two syllables, like heeyul.
That's what the IPA is saying to me.
Or maybe it's the whiskey.

@Shog has there been some change in account merging? I keep seeing reports about broken chat profiles as result of accounts merging.
(i.e. user who used to chat and goes through account merge can't chat any more.)

@Shog9 Hi! when you guys are adding chat in mobile app, it is really very helpful trait. This chat is diffucult on mobile phone
@ShadowWizard you use ios app of so ?
@TGMCians android
Why?
I wanted to know does ios app have chat feature ?
06:26
Used to have the iOS app in the beginning, but switched to android device about year and half ago.
@TGMCians oh, no, and it won't have.
ohhh
any reason ?

Q: Include some chat capabilities in iOS app

Enrico SusatyoCurrently, the app notifies users when they're mentioned in chat. However, when we tap on the notification, we got redirected out of the app to Safari. Is there a chance we can get some chat capabilities in the app, so that we don't have to login again in Safari to quickly reply to the messages...

@TGMCians just my feeling, but one I'm 100% sure about. They simply have no real reason to spend so much time and efforts on this.
hmm I see
They did improve the mobile theme of chat recently.
ohh really ? I have not tried recently
let me
06:28
Still lacking, but really better than before.
@TGMCians nothing to try, it should be the default now.
Just browse from mobile, if you're on full site theme switch to mobile by tapping"mobile" in the bottom right.
The feature I miss the most is the ability to reply to a message from the transcript - I have to either copy the message ID, or join the room and scroll up until it's visible.
But before the change we couldn't reply at all in mobile theme.
@ShadowWizard yup, I agree. one more thing also you know if network connection breaks then chrome does not reconnect it with chat after you are connected with internet again, have to refresh complete page.
@TGMCians not sure what it means, but sounds like it's not really related to SE? Maybe because the whole page is loaded via JS.
Just installed app on android phone, looks good
hmmm
06:38
It's about 10000% worse than the iOS app.
really ?
have not seen this on iOS
The iOS app got a developer who fix its bugs and adding new features. Nobody is working on the android app.
Bugs are left unfixed for years, new features never added.
Ohhh yes
Reminds me of Area 51 compared to the rest of SE sites.
last updated in April 2016
no more updates after that
06:40
Yep. well, they did fix bunch of bugs, but still.... great many are not fixed, some really irritating.
And the one working on the iOS app fixed most of those.

Q: I am informed. What does that mean?

Anupama MouI am informed. I just wanted to participate Stack Exchange. But I can't get it. What does that mean? And, how does Stack Exchange control me on being informed?

People are asking whether they're informed or not.
hahaha

@Rubisco well, looks like innocent misunderstanding.. but that user also tried to edit "bounty" into random posts, so can't really tell what's going on.
(maybe he thought that's how one starts a bounty....)
07:31
@rene so you're the @James of Saturday? ;-)
looks like it
lol, as long as he approves....
I still have to wake up, so some spam flagging to awake the brain tissue is not a bad start
@rene but it's too easy. Maybe we need audits for Smokey? ;-)
@ShadowWizard Undo did one once. Didn't turn out well, also because he reported it and we somehow trusted him ;)
07:36
@rene lol! Oh well... :P
08:37
@SmokeDetector f
@rene I'm confused by the link at the end
@JanDvorak yeah, true, I still think it is not spam for now. Maybe if it gets an answer so that it revels it was a spam seed
09:09
@rene well, that user is long time member of SO, hard to believe it's spam.
that is also true, yes

Is there a rule along the lines of "at -7 you only need one delvote to nuke the post"?
No, but making it vanish from the page is close to nuking it.
