I have Headless VirtualBox set up on my Debian machine and windows xp as guest. It works well. My Network is set to "nat". It works also well but the upload speed is very low.
I want to set the network to bridged mode, but every time I try it, it destroys my network so I cant even SSH / Ping the ...
GAH I want to rewrite core parts of our main app so badly... like having a global appsettings singleton that can be updated without restarting the appdomain by providing some api methods and a webinterface
better than my experience. "My server is down, as is every site on your network". Tech Support: "Could you try from a different computer, it works for me". Me: "Could you try from outside your network, as it's your internet connection that's down". Tech Support: "Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. Sorry, our routers are down right now"...
> It was really weird. It was just when I went to www.earthlyaffair.com - everything looked normal, except it looked as if there was a light gray filter on top of the web page. It looked that way for about five to ten seconds, at which point none of the links were registering as clickable, and then the grayish screen would disappear and everything was normal.
> It wasn't happening on any of the other sites I visited, so I don't think it was a Firefox thing. Anyway, if it happens again, I will try and take a screen shot.
I can just see the conversation now... "No, I don't think I'm using any linux thing. How would I know?" / "No, nevermind, you're probably not..." / "Actually I might be, what is it?" / " It's an opperating system... blah blah blah" / "It sounds GREAT! I just installed it but my computer won't turn on. HALP!"
> What version of Firefox and windows are you using? From my research and speaking with other industry colleagues what you described happens in Windows when a program is unresponsive, so this sounds like a possible bug in Firefox where it became unresponsive and WIndows grayed out the application. When it happened, could you go to other tabs in Firefox? Did you have a lot of tabs or windows open?
Ok, billability question: actual work was about 30 minutes, including time spent waiting on craptastic VPN software to work it's magic, and logins on RDPs
frustration and time spent waiting caused me to also come over here and chat with you guys and troll slashdot
billable time: 1 hr or 2 hrs? or somewhere in between?
@Josh this can occur in windows and does not indicate a flaw, this is unfortunate but expected behavior
@ircmaxell yeah that was my gut but I don't want my boss to bitch so weighing carefully :p ... not that it really matters, they can always floss the numbers later and figure out what they want.
I think Programmers is the most semantically correct, since it's not really about "writing" code, so it's more of a meta-programming question (hence belonging on a site "about programming" ;-) )
I don't understand this quirky NetBeans issue, every time I go to commit to one branch of our SVN repo, NetBeans always wants to exclude one particular file:
What can I do to make NetBeans not exclude that file from commit by default? I know I can click the checkbox to include it in this commi...
> Stack Overflow is for professional and enthusiast programmers [...] if your question generally covers … [...] software tools commonly used by programmers … then you're in the right place to ask your question!
sometimes I wonder if my boss realizes why he hired programmers :p ... give me the vision, let me worry about the technical implementation details ;) ... granted, he's a dev too
sitting at my desk in my office listening to nearly everyone in the outer office getting asked if they want to goto lunch ... guess who doesn't get asked/invited? #FeelinLikeAnOutsider #InappropriateHashtags
and as if by magic, the boss says "sitting back there in seclusion" then my door opens and a head pops in ... well there you go :p
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. My clients are so funny. And not always in a good way...
This one client has been complaining she can't upload. I asked her a lot of questions in the support ticket, and the post back from her was, "please see below:", nothing more. So we asked her again, said we didn't receive a response, please re-senfd and what was she trying to say, etc
Again all we get is, "please see below:', nothing more
Finally we get her to email us directly. This was her reply:
> ---Do not edit below this line --- > What browser are you using when you tried to uplaod? I'm using FireFox > How many files did ou try to upload? A whole bunch. ....
@Shog9 That's what I thought at first. it was worse.
Heh... Friend of mine has been bitching about them for days now... For some reason he can't make outgoing calls unless he gets a voicemail first. Then he can call his voicemail, and then he can call out.
The comment reply system is, at first glance, a fairly elegant and simple system that solves a fundamental problem with comments. However, there are many pitfalls and edge cases that even experienced users may not notice.
Take my own Allow for Comment Reply to Usernames With Less Than Three Cha...
After the success of last weeks Code-Bowling, we present you yet another
chance to write the worst code you have ever written.
Code-Bowling is a challenge for writing the most obscure, unoptimized,
horrific and bastardized code possible. Basically, the exact opposite of
Code-Golf.

Weird thing happening. I just linked area51, and it's showing total rep to be 151 rather than around 16.5k... Just a cache issue? Or am I missing something...?
@RebeccaChernoff - I noticed that Tariq our iPhone programmer on Programmers' got his migrated question back. Is the re-association code any better or am I going to have to flag individual cases still?
I'd like to build a proof-of-concept web-based database manager (such as the desktop version in the screenshot below) that has the following features.
The schema will be provided initially through a flat file.
It seems like HTML5 might be an option. What about non-HTML? What about processing....
Can a user account be merged with an "orphan" account? I.e. after a migration to as site where someone doesn't have an account, can they create an account and get ownership of their question back?
Because this was migrated (which makes a lot of sense, I'm sorry for not posting here in the first place), this question is no longer "mine". I can't comment on it or edit it (or select the best answer).
I'm not sure how to deal with that, maybe it can be fixed? My accounts were automatically lin...
If two accounts have an identical auto-generated picture(and same name, and everything else), is it correct to assume they are the same person (Seeing as I think I read somewhere that's based on the IP address)?
