Q: Can you remove the X's from the Favorite Tags section?

KobiNow that the Favorite Tags have the bubble popup, can you please remove the obnoxious delete buttons near very tag? I keep deleting them by accident...

^ +1 for the image alone

@YiJiang nice

Hi all. Is meta.stackoverflow the nearest we'll get to meta.stackexhange for network-wide discussion?

@tombull89 There is actually a meta.se, but that's for SE 1.0 discussions
And yes, MSO is the correct place to discuss problems that are network wide

Q: List of Comments on User Tab

ahsteeleI suggested this on UserVoice, but with the discontinuation of that site wanted to move the suggestion and discussion here. A list of all comments on the User Tab would be useful. Recent comments are available from the recent tab but I'd like to have access to all comments. I would envision some...

@balpha ^ Isn't this now [status-completed]?

12:50 PM
huh? that would be new to me

@balpha Profile > Activity > Comments?

Yeah I can see that
Oh, and good morning yawns

@Josh Now, about the muffins we were talking about last night... yes, you want muffins.

I do actually, but, I don't want to drive

ha, yeah. That looks like status-completed

My Hobby: Stay up 'till 1am in the morning to annoy those across the Pacific just waking up with my talk of food.

speaking of which: Because chat @mention rules weren't complicated enough:

A: Getting Marc's chat notifications

balphaOkay, we have made a change to the logic that we hope to be the best way to go. "@marc" will always be considered a match for your user name, in the sense that it will be highlighted if you look at the transcript etc. (following the "party" logic in my other answer). However, in most cases, "@m...

Basically you're giving up :)

my roommate manes a great southern biscuit. I convinced him to make a batch of biscuit dough and freeze it into biscuit shapes so I could grab one in the morning and pop it in the oven and have fresh biscuits for breakfast. but he hasn't done that yet

which is reasonable, given that there's autocomplete and colon replies

@balpha haha I was discussing that with Marc
@balpha Maybe when I can, I should change my username to "mention"
I'd instantly become more popular!

12:55 PM
Help get notified easily. Make your username more unique. Prepend your email password!
2
like this: "hunter12Josh"
boom! Instantly uniquely* starting nickname.
also you can make a service to humanity via messages like "@qwerty Seriously change your password"

@radp I suspect we'd see a lot more password123s if we do that

@radp hey how did you know my password?
Oh. radp == badp == "Bad Password". I forgots

@Josh I copied your stars from yesterday.

LOL
@radp and we know I had a lot of stars yesterday!

@Yi Jiang, thanks.

12:59 PM
I'm just sad that since SO doesn't have any password this can't be automated

heh, guy on serverfault has a hard drive that's giving him I/O errors, and the SMART utility says there's bad sectors on the drive. His question is, "How do I tell if a HD is going bad?"
uhhhhhhhh
I think you're already there dude ;-)

@Josh it can has be rsync time!
with optimizations. ++++++++++--+-+++++++++...Q

@radp yeah or I suggested dd bs=1 if=/some/file conf=noerror,sync of=/backup/file

so is it friday?
yes it is!

YEY!!!!!!!!!

1:03 PM
that means I can post stupid stuff and get away with it!

YEY STUPID STUFF!!!!!!

Some people don't capitalize at all. Annoying, but fine, I'll edit. Others capitalize at the start of sentences, but seemingly refuse to capitalize "i". This annoys me to no end, for some reason!
I'm going to start putting "Needs more self esteem" in the revison commit message for those posts :-p

@Josh We, as programmers, love consistency.

Is it just English where you're supposed to capitalize "I"? Maybe it is because IDK if other langues have an equivalent. @radp, does Italian? I know Latin didn't

@Josh Italian doesn't ("io"), French doesn't ("je"), etc.

@Josh There's a very good NYT article on it. Lemme search for it

1:09 PM
I guess the problem is "I" is a single letter, but ask on English.SE :)

@radp I'm considering, but, is there a "correct" answer?
besides "people are annoying" :-)
2

> “Graphically, single letters are a problem,” says Charles Bigelow, a type historian and a designer of the Lucida and Wingdings font families. “They look like they broke off from a word or got lost or had some other accident.” When “I” shrunk to a single letter, Bigelow explains, “one little letter had to represent an important word, but it was too wimpy, graphically speaking, to carry the semantic burden, so the scribes made it bigger, which means taller, which means equivalent to a capital.”

@YiJiang very interesting, thanks!
@radp yeah it's actually the visual representation that irks me
Thank you @RebeccaChernoff for motivating me to earn rep on SF< now I can rid that site of how do i es!

@Josh - I gave up on the router for now, btw.

1:24 PM
@Moshe I returned from dinner to a sea of @Josh es
and some screen shot ofg you nearly hosing your mac, LOL

OMG YES!!!!111!1!

The image is stretched here :(

@radp And Firefox refuses to render it, even though it can handle SVG fine

1:26 PM
@radp oh actually it may be stretched a bit here, too

@YiJiang /blame GDocs + Inkscape

oh wow it's an SVG, sweet

@Josh yeah, I copied your avatar and, er, sized it up a few thousand times, then fit shapes onto it.

@YiJiang FF4 seems to render it just fine.

@GeorgeMarian Hmmm... odd. Maybe refreshing will help here
(On 3.6 here) Nope, didn't work. Maybe they just don't support it yet

1:29 PM
Hmm...odd, I didn't hear any beep for that notification.

@GeorgeMarian Have it turned on?

@YiJiang I'm not about to restart FF to verify.
@YiJiang Yup, that I do. I'm getting the toast, but no beep. Odd.
Ah, seems there's a sound related issue on my end.
shakes a fist at pulseaudo
Hmm...maybe not? Someone ping me please.

@GeorgeMarian ping

@radp sweet

Ok, still no workie, though I was probably wrong about the pulseaudio having screwed up.
When all else fails, restart.
Ok...that's a new one. Chrome's hanging trying to enter this room.

2:12 PM
TGIF !

Indeed @Fosco

2:34 PM
is there any way for us to force the SO guys to open up a new open-source advertising question? ;)

@Franz I just don't think there'll be one :)
There's Stack Exchange to advertise.

@radp Just point him to the talk we had a few hours ago
Also, I'll open a question on MSO asking I think

I asked Jeff Atwood on Twitter, and he said he (or somebody) would set one up at some point. And "Thanks for the reminder" ;)
2
so that doesn't really sound like there won't be another one
so maybe i should just be patient instead of ranting

Yet another entry in the I'm Glad I'm Wrong series!
Can't wait to put a 500 rep bounty on that one.

status-planned
as far as I know

2:45 PM
@RebeccaChernoff \o/

a bounty on a question that won't get "answered"? ;)

Okay, as a result of OpenID trouble on my account radp → badp

@Franz Why not?

I think I have like three separate accounts on SE.com :|

So who noticed that Mr. "I won't raise the comment limit above 210 characters" made it 500?

2:51 PM
@Yi

@Franz Tab to autocomplete

@YiJiang i thought that wouldn't make sense ;)
lol, thx

^ Can we have a script to do this automatically now?

@drachenstern *above 141

To be fair he did say 70 more than current
or 50% more or something like that

2:52 PM
@YiJiang ah, i remember, the highest-voted answer gets the bounty after a while, right?

digging on the transcript, one moment

@Franz Automatically, yes. However, the person who placed the bounty can also choose the awardee himself

Jan 8 at 0:53, by Jeff Atwood
@LanceRoberts I'll look at increasing it some, but I doubt I want to increase it any more than maybe 50% in size

It's weird, at least two of the top requests on MSO are completed but haven't been marked as such until it was pointed out by common users
it's almost as if they were completed accidentally :D

Q: Make an application that "encrypts" a string with a given key and can easily be reversed

Ivo WetzelAfter the success of last weeks Code-Bowling, we present you yet another chance to write the worst code you have ever written. Code-Bowling is a challenge for writing the most obscure, unoptimized, horrific and bastardized code possible. Basically, the exact opposite of Code-Golf. Th...

@balpha Oh, I've been doing that.

@balpha Can I stick it on your forehead?

gahhhhhhhhhhhhh, why is it impossible for me to notice on the question listing page that a question was bumped by Community until after I click on the question and search and search and search for a recent date. ):

happens to me all the time
especially on mobile, where I usually don't see the signature

@RebeccaChernoff You can click on the most recent activity time, if it's community it won't take you anywhere

3:04 PM
(because it's off-screen)

Or rather, next time, click on the recent activity time directly from the listing, and you won't spend anytime at all looking for what bumped it

@YiJiang This would require clicking. Sure I could use GleeBox, but it is easier just to hit page down and scan.
That isn't unique behavior.
activity time isn't clickable on /questions[/tagged]

@RebeccaChernoff It isn't, true, but when it is you should use it

hopes it didn't have sound ...

Idea of the now: show mod flags left on the /review page

3:15 PM
@radp where

@radp Great idea!

anybody know where to suss out MySQL devs for realtime chat?

@drachenstern below the question count

ok, then suggest it on MSO
I'll upvote that one

@drachenstern SO chat might have a room for that

3:16 PM
@YiJiang I mean the guys who work(ed) on the engine
not devs who use MySQL, but MySQL devs

Do they have a mailing list?
You might, if your very lucky, find one in the SO chat room too

idk, figured somebody in this room might have immediate knowledge rather than me turning to the googs

We have a guy from the Opera JavaScript team in the JS room :P

interesting
chat.stackoverflow.com/… returns zero results

The guy who created jsfiddle also occasionally pops in
What's the nohide query used for?

3:20 PM
to show frozen rooms as well

Right, well I just noticed that quite an interesting amount of MySQL discussion also occur in the JavaScript room

In other news, the "show tag excerpts as you tag" idea is, erm, live I guess?
except tags excerpts aren't actually shown

yawns G'morning all

@TimStone Here, what you want is bacon. And bananas. And some authentic Chinese. Like in Hong Kong. Go and get yourself some tickets to Hong Kong. Now.

mmm bacon

wow the new flag interface is quite interesting ... including VtC without being VtC

evil grin It's working, MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!

What am I sharing? :P

starts hoping for breakfast for lunch

@drachenstern Yeah, that part is really weird

Right, so back on topic, bacon. Mmmhmmmm... bacon. Yes, you'll want some bacon. NOW.

is not doing well explaining himself .. goes in search of coffee

Luckily I've already had my lunch. Pasta, tuna and cream and abundant Grana.

:452533 It's an airline. :P

@drachenstern Erm... what did you think it was? :P

3:26 PM
@Zypher a breakfast casserole ... nom nom

f-r has been posted

@YiJiang see hands. see brain. see disconnect between hands and brain.

yea ... i had one of those oh god i don't wanna know how many calories wawa breakfast sammiches
soooo good

@balpha I'm going to start complaining about not getting notifications now, even though chances would be very slim I'd ever miss notifications that were for me.

@TimStone Don't worry, I can still send you many toasts

3:29 PM
@Ti Whatcha saying?

@Zypher That sounds pretty good about now...but I don't think I can be bothered to go out.
@badp \o/
@YiJiang Hah :P

Have a toast

lol

Hey... I turned toast notifications off !

@YiJiang That's barely half a toast.

@Josh Ah yes, my bad. I didn't use the proper notation.

Now, the real question is how I managed to injure my side while sleeping..

it's important of course
gotta cite

3:32 PM
@TimStone You... fell off the bed?

@TimStone unless this guy ever comes here, you should have nothing to worry about; even @tims will notify you

I didn't. :P

How do you know for sure?

How many @Tims can a whoodchopper chop if a woodchopper would chop @Tims?

@balpha How will I cause trouble and assign blame if I don't have a leg to stand on? Dammit, I guess the complainers win. :P
@Fosco I have some stuff piled on the side of my bed, and it'd hurt a lot more than this if I fell on it, heh.
I'm not really interested in a woodchopper chopping any of me o_o

3:54 PM
@TimStone heh. I swear every time I come back in here there's a weird message like this one to greet me

Hahah

bah, how am I going to reach 12k on SF if all the questions I answer keep getting migrated? :-p
