I hope every web designer in the universe woke up yesterday morning and said "Hey its 2016, I finally realize that slideshows suck".
Not a chance.
Related: Damn, my phone still has a touch keyboard.
I know your feel.
My friend got whatever the latest xbox is. You have to actually install games on it, and they take forever to load. Presumably meaning you can have a closet full of every game that exists and not be able to play them all if you run out of space. Boy, if only there were a console system that kept all the game data on some sort of... flash cartridge or something. Ah well, maybe some day.
360 here, got fancy little flat disks which cannot hold enough data for big games, so half of the data is on the disk and the other half on the console. If only we could have everything on the console, and not require disks which do not even contain the full game.
16:45
My NES outperforms my Xbox.
I did enjoy hogging the new assasins creed over Xmas to the point where my friend ended up just restarting his game, hehe.
I hope 2016 is the year that transferring files between computers becomes painless. Printing things, too.
How "painless" do you mean?
More likely it will just be another year of phones inexplicably becoming larger.
@SimonKlaver point to file on one computer, point to other computer, boom.
At this point I should really just be able to think about printing something, and then the paper is in my hand.
Phones seem to have found an average on 5".
@odnU It works that way on Windows, at least. :P
@JasonC Paper. How old-fashioned. You got a phone for that.
16:52
@SimonKlaver Does it?
Phone sizes are approaching the average male penis size. Coincidence?
(Yes)
Of course it works fine locally, that's easy, but what about when I want to get a 1G video to my grandparents across the country?
@odnU Between Windows computers in the same network, yes.
Yeah, child's play
Yeah right.
16:53
Well, fake a local network with them. If it works for games, it should also work for files O:-)
@JasonC At least there is no overcompensation then.

@SimonKlaver That'd work great, except that most consumer machines have a bunch of ISP crap between them and the Internet
Such as?
Routers, firewalls, NATs
At least in the US, machine-to-internet IPs are hard to come by in the consumer space
Ah yes, such.
Hopefully IPv6 will help, but I'm skeptical.
17:02
I just go the Batman hat, but I cannot see for which question. I am curious now.
*got
IPv6 will not help illiterates
It won't even help literates
Unless you have a super human memory
@JasonC Not directly, but if it allows individual devices to have their own addresses, without NATs, it'll help literates write software for illiterates.
17:05
Ah, thank you.

@SimonKlaver A very fancy periodic table.
@SimonKlaver I meant "I'm assuming it's [a fancy periodic table] of the elements."
Yeah I once encountered a periodic table where you could sort on different elements, which was very slick coded with Ajax. We made a nice online almanac out of it.
@TheGuywithTheTux Misread.
@SimonKlaver AJAX for very little data? o_0
17:20
Yeah on second thought that was really bad wording
@bjb568isceilingkat Needs more padding.
@bjb568isceilingkat Don't question it.
If you sort it it isn't a periodic table any more.
@JasonC no, unsortedness is sufficient but unnecessary.
@JasonC Sorting as in "Show only metals".
17:22
YouTube…
@SimonKlaver that's something you don't even need JS for…
And really, with these things called hyperlinks, you don't need CSS either.
Show only metals would be silly.
@bjb568isceilingkat We just reused the code, didn't want to rewrite the whole lot.
It's everything on the left except hydrogen. That's the point of the periodic table lol.
More useful is showing phase at a temp designated by a slider.
@JasonC I gave an example. It's been 3 or 4 years since.
17:26
Temperature and pressure sliders maybe.
It still follows a trend except for a few outliers.
Maybe something that isn't implicit in the table. Like market value.
Or discovery date
Or discovery country, that'd be interesting
@bjb568isceilingkat: If you ever thought you would be finished, @JasonC can fix that for you.
That's what I do. You're welcome.
Feel free to fork to finish it!
That would require caring.
I have a periodic table hanging on my wall. It wins.
I have a Nachtwacht on my wall, does that count?
17:31
Close enough.
A web version where you could filter by type and color of hat would be useful.
I only have 13. :P
It's sort of like the periodic table of 17th century dutch hats.
Oh, you were talking about the painting.
Yeah, I know. I realized it was ambiguous after I said it. Freakin hats...
@JasonC Same as I realised as soon as I saw you also have 13 hats.
17:41

@JasonC Wew.
@bjb568isceilingkat @JasonC this was what I was talking about, what we used a few years ago.
That's neat.
BTW I will concede that Google cloud print is kinda cool. So is Brothers Android print app.
Although the brother app screws up fonts in PDFs sometimes.
@SimonKlaver 2.82MB O_0
Actually it's probably not the apps fault. Thinking about it its probably pdfs with external fonts that my phone doesn't have. Although they do render correctly in the phones viewers. Who knows.
What's 2.82mb
Not my printer drivers that's for sure. They fit on a mere 300 3.5" floppies.
