We should change the system of reward here from Imaginary Internet Points to cupcakes.
sees as @Cupcake cowers in fear

@AnnaLear a dev mentioned a need to "merge" something in order for mobile web changes to take effect. What does it mean?
user163250
@Braiam bring it on :P
@ShadowWizard I didn't say we only use one branch. :)
Sklivvz has a branch for his mobile web changes and he merges things back into master when he's ready to deploy something new publicly
@AnnaLear sounds complicated... is there a mechanism to prevent conflicts?
No particular risk of conflicts here - he's the only one working on that part of the code.
Having a separate branch allows him to have a separate build to a different dev-tier site and test his changes without potentially jacking prod.
@AnnaLear nice, so the whole redesign that you did recently was done by Sklivvz alone? (actual coding)
22:27
Yeah, Jin and Sklivvz made it happen
Talking about Jin, @Anna, why isn't he posting anymore? He fixed a bunch of bugs which is awesome, but without a squeak. Just curious... :)
@ShadowWizard That's a question for @jin, not me. :)
He can't type and eat bacon at the same time, that'd be disastrous for his keyboard.

@Jin ^^^
:D
And bacon fuels the awesome.

You must answer for your crimes, Jin

If you want bacon, @Jin, just say the word

@AnnaLear I just nuked almost 4k lines of core LESS code...
cracks whip

@AnnaLear this has been the most painful project I've done
and i have so much more to go...
Tell me your secrets. The Data Explorer CSS file is scary. :(
Jin
Jin
@TimStone i just pretend that site doesn't exist
Woah, woah.
WOAH
Jin
Jin
22:35
IN MY DEFENSE I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT SITE!
@Jin oh, so that's what's keeps you busy! all clear now. You can get back to removing lines of code. :)
@Jin I know, it's my shameful burden ;_;
Jin
Jin
ha i'm j/k. actually i plan to give that site some lovin down the road
I'm in the mid of refatoring our css/less
What time is it? It's time to go drink beer with my better half and a couple friends. Later, y'all. Don't break anything major while I'm gone. ;)

hopefully when i'm done it will solve a lot of network wide css issues. it's just a technical debt i've been accumulating for the past 4 years..
@AnnaLear If we break all of the minor things does that add up to something major, and if so, do we get by on a technicality?
@TimStone try it and let's find out.
@Jin That'll do wonders for your credit designer score.
@AnnaLear rubs hands together menacingly Excellent.
So apparently, you can bypass the "this message is too long" by inserting a line-break in it with Shift-Enter
@AnnaLear You heard it here folks. We can break all the minor things.
22:38
Have fun @Anna and don't drive after drinking! ;)
@ShadowWizard I live in NYC for a reason. ;)
@AnnaLear sure, so that you can go shopping!
@ColeJohnson Yeah, multiline messages have their own set of restrictions.
well, two reasons. 1. various watering holes within walking distance of my apartment. 2. never having to have a plan for getting home without drinking and driving.
on that note, really out now.
Enjoy

I was reminded today why I strongly dislike VB.NET. Replace "strongly dislike" without whatever harshly negative, expletive-ridden statements you prefer.
@jadarnel27 OK, I'll ask. What reminded you? ;)
@ShadowWizard A very old ASP.NET web forms project, backed by VB. I had to fix some bugs in it today.
yeah, VB tends to cause the most bizarre bugs
@jadarnel27 "Well I know in C# I'd just do... compiler smacks you in the face 'Silly developer, welcome to VB.NET"
@TimStone Haha, exactly.
23:06
Alternatively, would you said you had a Dim view of it? instantrimshot.com
@ShadowWizard Yeah? I think most of these bugs were either due to poor architecture, or the last dev that worked on it not totally understanding the old school, ViewState-oriented, web forms way of doing things.
@TimStone Hahaha
Having to put a daggum underscore at the end of lines when I want to break a line of code up just adds insult to injury.
oh, missed the point lol. Well, long lines of code are usually a bad idea to begin with :)

@jadarnel27 @ShadowWizard you just reminded me, that I had a MCP in ASP.net VB..
@Jin Congrats on that sentence being in the past tense? =P

I quit programming a week after my certification. I hated asp.net back then.
23:14
So you deleted it from your memory, @Jin? That's an awesome skill! :D
@ShadowWizard I sort of agree. Though this was String.Format, and I think those get a pass =)
Jin
Jin
@ShadowWizard i didn't delete it, i'm just suppressing it. one day i may snap.
We'll know @Jin is past the breaking point if we see a stream of VB.NET answers coming from his Stack Overflow account.
@jadarnel27 agree, usually 3 lines for those.

Hi @TimPost, this user has been trying to work himself out of a ban for quite a while. He seems to be making an earnest effort. With the current ban and anti-recidivism systems in place, would it just be easier for him to get a new account and start being throttled instead of completely blocked?

Q: Would it be ok to change a downvoted question into a completely different question so you can ask it when post-banned?

cluemeinI am currently still banned from posting questions on SO (even though my rep has increased more than a 100 points and I now have vote down privilege), and at least one of the questions I see hurting me I find unrecoverable. Since I can't fix it, and it won't help to delete, would it be ok for me...
