We traced it back to what we currently think are a string of posts on Server Fault that got nofollow ...
That's the best I could do, since @TimStone didn't respond to the Tim-Signal.
Why would we allow this? We already give users the benefit of a non-nofollow link in their profile (when they achieve 2k reputation), extending it to "About Me" would open up a world of potential linkspam exploits.
the exact criteria for removing nofollow in posts is secret, to prevent abuse. The philosophy behind the criteria are fairly simple though: the community has to indicate that they trust both the user and the current state of the post to a certain degree.
@animuson if it makes you feel better, I could probably only guess like 3-4. However, if the quiz shows you the abbreviation of the elements, then i could probably do like 20.

All seriousness aside, to improve the quality of our spam, we should fight back with the same tools that they use. What this means is that when a post is marked as spam, the poster's personal email address should be placed instead of his posting with a message that says : Send all your hate mail ...

@Bart I don't know Modernzr well enough (and I'm not going to reverse engineer minified code) but you can, for instance, get jQuery 1.11.0 and jQuery 2.whatever to both be loaded on the same page and work.
@LaszloPapp: your trick doesn't really work in a headless environment. QApplication requires an X11 connection on Linux (at least in Qt4). I guess that might be a reason for a downvote. Or it could just be one of your admirers saying hi.
