What?

strunk and with, querying the SEDE for the number of edits, etc.

@balpha Do you still think per-site chats are a good idea? :)

@mmyers Fixed. odata.stackexchange.com/meta/q/10960/… (What are you doing on the second page of users on MSO?)
Can't fix the problem with posts that get re-edited though, for the reason @badp pointed out.

22 days till I get a gold badge

Interesting, Community owns tag wiki posts.

7:08 PM
@Fosco Woo hoo!
@Fosco The new login system broke my script

@TheUnhandledException what script?

@PopularDemand Maybe I should recalc a few people. :P

my SO gold is in 21 days. Other sites soon to follow hehe.
knocks on wood!!

so far, SO is all I care about... started answering some stuff on Programmers today though

I was getting close to earning Enthusiast on day 30 of Gaming, then my mobile dived into the Mediterranean Sea. :/

7:11 PM
i have an answer that I don't want to post there..

Yeesh.

@badp, ouch

I once had a dream I was in a server room next to all the patch panels, trying to get this network cable into the panel.. it wouldn't go, but i kept poking and trying... when I woke up, maybe you can guess what the 'network cable' really was.

@Fosco I have a script which makes my fileserver open S[OFUM] sites every day for me

ha ha ha.. didn't mean to kill the room..

7:15 PM
@Fosco ROFLMAO

@TheUnhandledException oo... cheater! ;) I like it..

@TheUnhandledException I did that for a while, but it started to slow down my boot times.

@TheUnhandledException no scripts here, I've been on 78 days straight.

Yeah, cept I was logged out when they redid the login system and I lost my 50-something days straight :-)

@TheUnhandledException You still have 1,999 rep?! What a tease!

7:19 PM
@TheUnhandledException I thought this sort of automated stuff wasn't enough to keep the consecutive days counter going all by itself.

@TheUnhandledException Don't make me upvote you again :D

A: Change fanatic/enthusiast badge to count more than just a page visit?

waiwai933 In fact, it's so easy you could setup a script to visit the page once a day and get the badge with no effort at all. IIRC, Jeff said that you had to do marginally more than that. I suppose it might be to visit 2 different pages, but I'm not sure. So it's just a tiny bit harder than one page ...

A similar answer was posted to a question about a desktop flair bar that I can no longer find.

@badp LOL, I had 2000 and then downvoted!!
@PopularDemand You need to visit 2 pages
hence the sleep 5 and the second find
Damnit, Thunderbird keeps f**king deleting my emails! I am going to kill the thunderbird devs!

hello

hey @Chacha102

7:28 PM
@TheUnhandledException Is that documented or just something you figured out through trial and error?

@PopularDemand Trial and error, when they added the # of consecutive days
This script of mine was running since february, doing nothing :-)
~50 days ago I saw that my visits were like 200 days, 1 consecutive
only after opening two different URLs from each site per day did the 1 consecutive part start to increase
OK I've had it

Q: Why is Thunderbird randomly moving IMAP messages to the trash?

JoshI have 4 IMAP email accounts set up in Thunderbird 3.0.5 on Ubuntu 10.04.01 LTS. These are all accounts on a server which I administer. On one particular account, seemingly randomly, thunderbird will move certain recent emails to the trash. Without being asked to. Often without me even using the ...

Can someone recommend a better alternative to Thunderbird for Linux?
It's just deleted the same message 15 times. I keep undoing and it keeps deleting itself

@TheUnhandledException Are you sure you want that message?

"It looks like you're trying to un-delete a message... Would you like me to delete it?" - clippy

LOL
@PopularDemand It did it on three different messages today
well, at least three
three I noticed. How many emails is it deleting which I don't know about!?!?!

hundreds!

7:38 PM
@rchern I fear that

@rchern So it's your fault, then!

I wonder if it have something to do with NoMachine?

What has The Unhandled Exception ever done to you?

wrote a /me script ;-)

@rchern, carry on.

7:39 PM
LOL

BLEH
I am currently really bored

I wish the activity graph showed up while I was in the room

@Chacha102 Want to write a new email client for me? :-)

@Chacha102 If you're bored, read my email and decide if you want to participate?

I thought it was intersting
the first thing is that it would be a little hard to edit code

7:41 PM
And if any other php/JS people are interested in joining an open source project, let me know..

about?

@Chacha102 It might take some getting used to, but we'll have to hammer out those details later.. I see lots of ways to make it easy

@TheUnhandledException, you didn't want those emails anyway. trust me

anyway, I'll be back

@Fosco I am! I'm pretty busy, but I can pretend to help! :-)
@rchern LOL. They were just asking for password resets :-)

7:42 PM
@rchern A chat based project development application.. I have an email with a bunch of details that I can send, and a mockup..
You need to have an account on CodePlex, so I can invite to the project.

@Fosco Hm? What? Something worth paying attention to? Hi!

I'll focus on StackFlair for now. (:

@PopularDemand Hi.. you might be interested?

@Fosco Yeah. I haven't worked with PHP in about seven years, though.

@Fosco I'm creating an account now

7:45 PM
And my JS experience is minimal.

@PopularDemand oh.. well maybe you can be an advisory contributor.. it's probably going to be 70% JS 30% PHP and most of the JS will be jQuery

oh... "Your account has been successfully created. In order to activate your new account, please check your email and follow the link provided"

/me hurriedly deletes that email
mwuahaha

Looks like I can't help after all!

once the foundation is started, it will probably be used to develop itself.

7:48 PM
@Fosco Define "advisory contributor"?

@PopularDemand hehe.. opinions, testing, feedback.. /shrug, whatever you're capable and willing to contribute

@Fosco I registered as hmblprogrammer

What are we using to version the thing?
I like git

codeplex uses an SVN compatible system
I like git too (thought I havent really used it)

yey for svn!

7:51 PM
Hopefully I can push to the SVN server..
via git
otherwise I have to learn something new, and that sucks

you can't push to a SVN server
you can only commit to it ;)

@TheUnhandledException you've been added to the project at skeletoncbp.codeplex.com

....

@Chacha102 It's not that difficult

@balpha What are you guys using?

7:52 PM
svn commit -m "describe your changes here" :-)

@Fosco You used 'bp' in your project name!

@Chacha102 mercurial

SUED!

Skeleton CBP (Chat Based Projects)
Deploys at posiverse.com for the time being.

7:54 PM
oh, a UI!

odd hosting issue right now... just shy of a 7 second delay on all web requests

The svn repo was empty :-)

Yeah I haven't committed what I worked on last night yet..
I'll load the current code to SVN after I get home

cool. Well I'm a member, woo hoo! :-)
And I've switched to Evolution. Take that @rchern!
:-)

huh?

8:01 PM
No more Thunderbird for you to mind-meld with and delete my emails!

you people are bringing me down
Why are you bringing me down man?
Why are you bringing me down?
DON'T BRING ME DOWN!!!!
Music and Lyrics by @MarcGravell

What are you, a server?
root@Chacha102:~# shutdown -h now
BRING CHACHA DOWN NOW!!!

What now? What am I getting blamed for?

@TheUnhandledException, you just think your emails are safe...

YOU'RE BRINGING ME DOWN MAN!!!

8:03 PM
@Chacha102, the correct command is /blame @Marc

!!!

(;

I have a +2 mirror of deflecting, as used by politians everywhere, and Teflon body armour. Nothing sticks.
The /blame is back @you

does it deflect to @balpha automatically or do you get to choose?

Politicians. Stupid iPod.

8:06 PM

WHY ARE YOU BRINGING ME DOWN MAN?

DON'T BRING ME DOWN!!!!!!!

Nah, devs get to blame hardware and config. So @kyle.

you created a room for that @Chacha102

Yes

@rchern Shh, best not to get involved.

8:08 PM
@balpha We need to be able to quote messages from other SO chats

@PopularDemand ...

17 secs ago, by rchern
@PopularDemand ...
both of those should work..

@Chacha102 I agree @balpha!

Why should copying a message from chat.sf work here?

because they are both Chats

8:10 PM
I don't necessarily agree with it, but they've done it so that they're separate.

And it works from other chats on here

@rchern If you don't like quoting messages, at least oneboxing rooms should work:

We could probably make both work. Suggest in feedback?

Will do!
which feedback? here or there? :-)

No promises, mind.

@MarcGravell Of course

8:14 PM
Here.

@rchern ?

@MarcGravell I take that as a direct promise that it will be completed by next week. :P

@Popular ?

6 to 8 weeks

Q: Code Chess: Fibonacci Sequence

SLaksBuilding upon the proven success of Code Golf, I would like to introduce Code Chess. Unlike Code Golf, which strives for concision, Code Chess will strive for cleverness. Can you create a clever or unexpected Fibonacci generator? Your code must print or return either the nth Fibonacci number o...

cleverness ?
I get code golf
that's pretty definite
but how does one measure cleverness ?

subjectively

Thanks @Fosco -- my point exactly :-)

8:20 PM
That's something I'd take a crack at, if it were a brand new question

@Chacha102, is your pinned message really the most important thing we need to see over there? keeping in mind it that it removes another star and is forced at the top despite votes? >_>

@TheUnhandledException Upvotes

I like the subjective stuff.. really psyched that I got the accepted answer on a question on programmers.

I have discovered that upvotes count for nothing more than the level of humour or cleverness in an answer..
anyway
I got to go

Yeah I see your point @Chacha102... anyway, take care!

8:25 PM
night all

Good afternoon, @balpha.
We really need a less location-specific salutation/valediction here.

Hello and Goodbye ?

@rchern works for me :-)

8:39 PM
Sharepoint makes me want to slit my wrists. Anyone have a razor or piece of glass? Rusty nail?

I thought Sharepoint had a wrist-slicing tool built-in... Check your plugins.

Well we only have WSS, no MOSS so... limited a bit

@Shog9 There's a bug in mine.

@JoePhillips Ah, see... that's how they get you.
Lure you in and get you hooked, but then charge you extra for suicide.

@PopularDemand Goes into indian burn mode instead?

8:52 PM
@TheUnhandledException A little piece of glass comes out, but I get a warning saying that there's an error in the script and asking if I want to debug. Or, sometimes, it's just a message about the piece of glass being in use by another program.

9:13 PM
Darn you @PopularDemand
I answer that question, then read your complaint about it being a du---
oh wait you are not Aarobot.
Oh well.
Undeletes his answer still

@badp Which question? This one?

Q: Create a "questions that you can answer" page

MahomedalidI have a dream of having a page showing just the questions that I can answer. Such a page would be implemented with some weird, out-of-space algorithm; perhaps it could be tag-based. Can such a page be created?

aye aye.

I have the only existing answer there...
Whoop, no, yours came up on refresh.
And it's older than mine.

I think it's a dupe, since my exact answer works for both questions

Odd.
"Same answer works for both questions" doesn't necessarily indicate dupe.

9:17 PM
sighs just when I thought I'd found a way to tell what really is a dupe

Any networking experts in here?

"Use a linked list" could be a valid answer to any number of basic questions.
@badp It was a good try. Instead of looking at answers, look at questions; if they are asking for the exact same thing, or one is asking for the exact same thing and more, then you have dupes on your hands.

As usual there, I am in the minority :)

@badp Tell me about it. I posted a ~1700-character comment explaining my minority opinion the other day.

I feel like I'm getting nothing done today. Drives me crazy!

9:38 PM
I'm almost done with the task I was supposed to have done about 6 hours ago
RAWR

10:07 PM
@PopularDemand it's a pretty big red flag though.

10:20 PM
@PopularDemand It's much more fun when you have Grace Note explaining the majority view in 3k words
(and you disagree)

@PopularDemand Was that on meta.cooking? (or was that a different gigantic series of comments)

What everybody wants, but Jeff has declined:

Q: Tab for interesting questions

Lance RobertsWhy don't we have a Tab that shows only questions for our interesting tags, showing recent first? I keep having to scroll down the page to find the questions I'm interested in. It'd be like the Unanswered Questions -> My Tags tab, but for all questions with my interesting tags.

@LanceRoberts What's wrong with this one?

boy, that stupid 'You can perform this action again in 1 seconds -retry/cancel' message really sucks.
Why would they put rate-limiting on messages?

Spam

10:33 PM
Now it'll just be harder to create seamless messsages, since you need a new message to paste a link.

uh?
you can normally use comments' markdown, but it's by design to have links expand to one boxes only if they are the entirety of the message.

1 hour later…
11:44 PM
That last question I posted is now second on the list of status-declined feature-requests.

And yet, you still don't have a [status-declined] badge. Sad...

Hmmm, how the heck did you get that?

I'm addicted to lost-causes.
I also own a boxed copy of OS/2 Warp, a :CueCat and a Palm Pre

Oh, I know, it's because question upvotes don't count only answer upvotes.
You have a ton of tag badges, I need to learn to talk as much as you.

that makes sense. Hey, you're #2 in the list of "most popular bad feature requesters"!

11:57 PM
I guess I'm an achiever.

I have half your "declined" score, but also half as many declined questions

I make a lot of small, little feature-requests that the Team doesn't figure is worth the effort.

you should be more like bfree - one question, 96 votes, declined
