Earlier I asked a question about why I see so many examples use the 'var' keyword and got the answer that while it's only necessary for anonymous types, that it is used nonetheless to make writing code 'quicker'/easier and 'just because'.
Following this link I saw that var gets compiled down to ...
I was poking around Stack Overflow in Portuguese, and I went to their tour page (from the big banner at the top.) I would have posted this in their Meta, but given that I can't spell 'portugeues' the same way twice, let along speak it, I decided to post in a more... comfortable venue.
Basically,...
@rene I had all but 3 on Meta. One was a secret hat that only one person and employees got. One was a hat that only worked for sites that had metas. And one was a hat that I just didn't get (ask 30 questions)
Winterbash (hopefully) is coming up! Meaning fun and hats!
We have a lot proposals how to reduce the close vote queue like a close party or free mugs.
Why don't we put most attention to the review system and especially the close-vote queue in the Winterbash?
We could have
the best hats for r...
Oops, just downvoted an answer on MSO, flagged it (it has only the other option) with the comment "Not an answer", then I realized that this answer was already deleted..
@JohannesKuhn The first answer was a rant that I just got chance to flag and downvote. The others where already closed, I guess because Oded was watching that question and answering it at the same time. I assume he was still on high alert when that question for SO came along.
Not for free...you have to show some effort, have tried yourself and tell us what did and what didn't work. And maybe as a reward you can collect one hat.
@Doorknob Am I wrong to think that Anderson serial downvoted you? I noticed you had been serial downvoted on meta, and then saw that question he posted earlier.. I know I shouldn't speculate, but it looks like its true.
On stack overflow some users abuse their (dubiously) attained reputation to "attack" people they hold a grudge against.
One can easily see that you reply to someone and that person immediately goes on rampage, looking up previous post and down voting them.
So, the consequence is that someone wit...
@hichris123 yes, some really useful ones (only work on comments though) are How to Ask -> How to Ask, [help] -> Help Center, and anchors (i.e. [help#some_topic])
"Given that we don't know what will happen with Area 51 a year from now" - sounds like there is already a "we can't keep it that way". — Johannes KuhnDec 12 at 11:44
A diamond is never just a status symbol. It carries certain responsibilities with it (not to mention access to private information), so we don't hand them out just for the hell of it.
@hichris123 :P I wanted to stay recognizable, so I rendered a few random white circles over my avatar in Paint.NET and change my username to Doorknob of Snow. :P
Maybe. I kind of like that idea (there a feature-req for it somewhere on MSO), but there's historically been a bunch of resistance to adding Yet Another Symbol.
I get the resistance behind Yet Another Symbol (I've participated in it on the heck no side), but I would think that those on an M.SE site would get the meaning of a greyed out diamond (we already do that on the network flair, and A51, methinks)
I only saw the numbers. Looks good. But because I can't speak Portuguese and I'm not in the private beta, I don't know the inside. (or: do they just ask translated random questions from SO?)
I wasn't going to do it, but WinterBash was pretty much done and I felt like it:

summary: What the hell, let's have hats. After all, you can't spell "chat" without "hat".
Caching is a bit more aggressive for chat hats, so worst case it may be up to 10 minutes for a hat change to register. And it's only in the live chat room view.
You've always been earning hats. From the day you were born, our Hat Overlords have been grooming you to serve as their means of transportation. You just didn't know it...
Fun fact: The German word for "hat" is "Hut". When I was younger and didn't know English, I always thought "Pizza Hut" (which exists by its English name in Germany) has something to do with hats. And their logo didn't actually make it obvious that this was an absurd idea
There should be an edit war-stopper hat. After two users A and B made X back-and-forth edits, user C made an edit, and both A and B stopped, without being suspended or the post being locked. C should get a hat. (I wonder if that ever happened?)
@JohannesKuhn There are thirteen sites where hats are turned off by default, but you can opt in. Math Overflow has no hats at all. The rest of them have hats turned on by default (including codegolf.se)
